With the draws Goerges had this year, she should be closing in on the top 10. One cake after another and she loses leads to Zakopalova and Lepchenko.

With the draws Goerges had this year, she should be closing in on the top 10. One cake after another and she loses leads to Zakopalova and Lepchenko.:lol:She's probably not good enough to do that. It's long time since she really had good results. As for best German player at the end of this year my money is on Angelique.

Wow, Julia is so lucky with draws and can´t really take advantage of it!
Her chokes are so disgusting, I mean, u should think that she learns from mistakes as she already wasted her chances against Zakopalova in Paris but instead she just does even worse!
41 and *53 in 1st set, in 2nd set she was break up 4 times but immediately lost serve again after, that is awful

oh but whatever, doesn´t deserve to win or have a good ranking if you waste your chances like that over and over again

Never thought Varvara was able to upset good players. Well done! Must've had a lot to do with Julia UEing her way to the exit though.

Hasn't Lepchenko any fan??

I'm happy. She's having her peek at 25 yo. Lots of players should learn.

After an unusually good AO, the WTA is back to being a miserable shitfest :sobbing:

This result is not that surprising.
Varvara has been playing very competitively against top players.
She is also 2-0 against Gorgeous.

I think it's great when a journey woman comes up with a big upset--and also love it when someone kind of off the radar does well or wins a tournament (like Kerber just did).

Congrats Lepchenko!

What an awful week for Germany.

Goerges- bad loss.
Lisicki- first round loss.
Kerber- bad loss.
Barthel- bad loss.

To add injury to insult, Petkovic's injury is worse than expected also.

Whatever. Really, how can she lose this? Sad thing is that she actually nows what she has to improve. In all her interviews she says that she has to work on her consistency and that in between 2 good tournaments she has too many bad losses. But a loss like this is exactly what she should avoid. Unless she has one of her rare good days, she seems to be unable to hit more than 2 shots into the court.

It's really bad that she hasn't been able to put up her ranking during the hard court season. If she doesn't have a magnificent clay season as she did last year, then she'll drop down the rankings quickly.

That said, I have a soft spot for Lepchenko. I really love unorthodox grips, which is why I also liked Vakulenko.

Really appalling loss for Julia; Lepchenko is barely top 100 material and normally depends heavily on ITF results to keep her ranking afloat, I doubt she's ever been this far in a big WTA event, she did well to even qualify.
