View Full Version : Cheekbones - Yay or Nay?

I know we all have cheekbones but I'm talking about the sticky out ones.

Let me tell you the backstory first. For the last couple of months I've been working in a bar because I lost my job and I need to eat and a couple of weeks ago a new guy started and instantly all the female barstaff all went weak at the knees and they just spend their shifts either fawning over him or if he's not on talking about how "beautiful" he is. I didn't (and still don't get it) he's not got a manly face, he's thin, he has alien eyes and bones jutting out of his cheeks. I asked the girls why they love him so much and they all said "cheekbones".

I've always thought that cheekbones make someone look gaunt and they're horrible. I think he looks weird, he looks a bit like Douglas Booth who I also think is weird looking but the girls also love him. If I sound jealous then you'd be right, facially I'm as ugly as sin, so I go to the gym a lot and while I get comments on my body (usually from very drunk and slightly desperate older women) its nothing near the level he's getting and he's a thin lanky alien! I've asked my guy friends and they don't get it either but then they're hardly a great barometer of taste.

So cheekbones are they actually that great? And how do I get them without surgery?

I think that sticky cheekbones are very attractive in a woman with small eyes, I don't know but I've always found them so beautiful.

I find that " cheekbones model " look attractive. You don't have to go under a knife to get that look, you just need to be skinny :p
Is he something like this?

Depends on the "proportion" and the "level" of the cheekbones :oh:
Like the example above is quite a perfect example.

It's not a mandatory to be attractive, I don't think.

For example, this amazingly stunning template of idealized beauty doesn't have particularly prominent cheekbones, though the ones she has are exactly perfect:

I don't think I could get skinny with my weight training. He doesn't look like that model...that I can see is attractive but he's more like this:

To me they seem to make the face look too feminine without the right masculine jaw...I dunno I just don't get it.

Definitely, yay. :D I mean, I cannot go against my own anorexic cheekbones skeleton kind.

Part of it is genetic. High, prominent cheekbones are fairly common among East Asians and Native Americans.

I assume there's not an exercise one could do if its genes?

Cheekbones are bones, you cannot change the shape of your bones  But you could get super skinny though and they'd be more prominent. I'm not sure the body would be attractive after that though lol.

Yeah, if you don't naturally have prominent cheekbones the only way for them to stand out is if you starve yourself. Not worth it, in my opinion. You got to play to your strengths.

I don't agree. Some people can lose some weight and their cheekbones will be visible, you don't have to be anorexic to have them, look at this guy, he is well built yet his cheekbones are visible, it's just the way he is.

 Danilo sweety you don't have to be super skinny but you do have to have very low bodyfat % which this guy has..

So conversely if I try and fatten him up, he could lose them...although that will just mean both of us looking plain and boring. Scrap that I just want to look good, oh well I'll stick with the gym.

Oh you got me, I faked a story to make myself look better, so other members of the forum would fawn over my beautiful cheekbones...oh wait

I love a well sculpted everything (in a man) but a well sculpted face makes me melt. Strong jaw lines, high cheekbones, a hollow in their cheeks, dimpled chin, a chiseled face. Yum.

Depends, if they look healthy or if they look like Mischa Barton.

I don't think that they look good on men, all of the men that you've posted here look effeminate.

No, someone without naturally prominent cheekbones could lose all the weight they want but it still wouldn't change their fundamental bone structure. I'm pretty much as skinny as you can get without tipping over into anorexia, but I don't have prominent cheekbones at all...

The only slight exception to this is that very fat people who DO have naturally well-defined cheekbones, it may be that they're just covered up by facial flab... in which case losing some weight would display the cheekbones more clearly (see Adele after her recent weight loss). But if the OP doesn't have a fat face and still doesn't have well-defined cheekbones, then his genetics simply don't allow him to have them simple as that, and there's no way of naturally getting them (and even if you got it done through surgery it would probably look weird and unnatural and probably not attractive, thus defeating the purpose of the proceedure).

Fwiw, in my personal opinion people with prominent cheekbones CAN contribute to making someone's face look good because it gives more definition and a more sculpted look, but they're not enough in themselves to make someone attractive if it doesn't work with their other facial features (that Douglas Booth guy who's been posted doesn't do it for me, something really offputting about his jawline...). And conversely, there's plenty of attractive guys who don't have defined cheekbones (Zac Efron  has a round, un-defined face). So basically, cheekbones are a small contributing factor to attractiveness, but they're neither enough in themselves nor are they a necessity.

Natural high cheekbones on women are gorgeous and can give a face such great definition..Venus Williams is a good example here. However, I would associate them more with femininity as when I think of guys with prominent cheekbones I get an image of an emaciated, feminine, pouty male model type:shrug:
