Choose-Your-Player (C-Y-P)

http://oi42.tinypic.com/155tb1k.jpg

(1) C-Y-P is simple and only takes a few minutes each week. The only you need to do is to choose one player from the draw. How many points you get from the tournament will depends on how many points your choosen player won on the WTA tournament. For example, if your player lose in the second round of the Australian Open, you will get 100 points for the list.

(2) One player can be chosen only once, so you can not choose a player who has already been chosen.

(3) For each event you must choose a new player.

(4) Bonus points: If you choose not seeded player you must predict how far into the draw will go your player (R2, R3,..., SF, Final, Title) and if you correctly predict your points will be doubled.

Example: If your choice for Australian Open is Bojana Jovanovski R3

- If Bojana lose in R2 you will receive 100 +0 =100 pts. (100 for R2 and 0 for wrong prediction)
- If Bojana lose in R3 you will receive 160 + 160 =320 pts.(160 for R3 and 160 for correct prediction)
- If Bojana lose in R4 you will receive 280 + 0 =280 pts.(280 for R4 and 0 for wrong prediction)

(5) If on the one tournament you choose a player who is seeded between #1 and #8 at the next tournament you play you do not have right to choose a player who is seeded between #1 and #8.

(6) There will be two deadlines.

First deadline: Players commit to the tournament. First deadline is first Wednesday 8 pm CET (5 days) before the tournament starts. Players who commit after the first deadline will be placed at the bottom of entry list.

Second deadline: Players send their preference lists to tournament manager via PM. Players must send their preference lists before the start of the first singles match of the tournament, and this is the second deadline. Late entrie after second deadline is allowed but you can choose only those players who does not play that day, if there are available players.

(7) How to choose player. Players should send to tournament manager in PM a preference list of x (number) players, where is x position on entry list. Players can wait and send preference list after the main draw is released (but must do it before second deadline).

(8) Entry list will be made by ranking (rankings two weeks before the start of the tournament). Late Entries are ordered by entry order.

(9) If you want to change your preference list you can do that before the start of the first singles match of the tournament.

(10) Please make sure you write down the player's full name or surname, no nicknames please!

(11) Your best 16 results throughout the year will be counted for your ranking.

(12) You can play one tournament per week.

(13) If for some reason someone is not able to send preference list he can send to igorche85@live.com

(3) For each event you must choose a new player.

(6) If you choose a player in the tournament which is played, for example, in February, you do not have right to pick the same player again for the second tournament which is played on February.

Example: If you choose a player for the tournament in Doha, you can not choose that player for Dubai.

These rules seem to contradict each other?

These rules seem to contradict each other?

I think what they meant was you don't pick a player and keep that player for the whole season.

So, everyone picks again but you may pick the same player next time you pick.

That counts for the whole of February, right? (Second means the #2 and only that in English...a bit confusing when there's lots more than 2 tournaments)

Rule 7 has been changed.

Previous rule:
(7) You can choose your player only after tournament manager says "now you can choose your player".

New rule:
(7) You can choose your player only after the main draw is released. If tournament manager did not post draw first person who choose a player must post a draw and after that to choose a player.

Example: SamR03A come to choose player. The draw is not posted (by manager or other player), first he must post a draw and after after that to choose player. After him BepaMaria come to choose player, and he choose his player (no need to post the draw because it is posted by Sam).

The new rule will be valid from the tournament in Miami

For unseed players, we have to pick which round they lose or win the tournament.
Maybe, we could also pick who they lose or who they beat in the final. If we pick correctly, we could get bonus points.

Another problem is the number of CYP players in the tournament. When we have more than 20 players on tournament with 32 players MD, many of them have to choose irrelevant players.

here's a suggestion
so if under that situation (20+ players for 32MD)
Seeded players can be chosen by two different players
which means there will be more chances to win points
or even all the players can be chosen twice would be a good idea

When we start the new tennis season in January 2014 could all players start at zero points then when the 2015 season starts all players should have to defend their points/titles and that way it would be a fair result all round. I think it may involve quite a bit of work and may be complicated but I can't think of a fairer way myself.
I started playing this year and my first ranking I believe was in the 70's, I am now at 29 and have been there some little time and I think it will take me ages to move up and I won't get that near the top.
I love playing this competion and would still play even if the rules do not change or only change a little. I would welcome opinions on what I have said be it negative or positive.
I think Igorche and DJDVD do a great job so many thanks to them.

If we start season 2014 from zero then in season 2015 we will be in the same position as now, top players will be on top and new players at the bottom. Or you think that every season we start from zero.

Igorche
May 24th, 2013, 08:29 PM
Another suggestion.

What about using the same ranking systems it is used by the juniors? That would be the 6 best results in singles + 6 best results in doubles /4

For me that would be a good compromise and that would emulate the doubles

valac222
May 25th, 2013, 09:52 AM
It takes ages in every WTF games to be in the top section of the rankings (unless you get a great results in any of the slams). Somehow the previous results of top ranked players should be honored. (And Igor you know that I am not protecting my ranking :D ).

Anyhow the difference is GS (and maybe P5) picking. Both top ranked players and lower ranked players can pick top 8 seeds twice a year so the only relevant issue is the pick of a lower-lower ranked (lets say new) players. Player ranked 9 to 16 technically speaking can have exactly the same chance in GS than the top 8 players. I admit that if you are 38th in commitment list then you have almost 0 chance:

Solution I : When all commitments done. You simply divide into two halves, 1 field for higher ranked commitments and 1 field for lower ranked commitments and run two paralel tourneys. (Actually this can be done for each tourney) This way you dont give any advantage to higher ranked ones, but extremely increase the chance for lower ranked players. (Still keeping the 2 GS/year seed picking) (Actually any random halving would suit, but to a lesser extent)

Solution II : You should have two picks. An example: Assume 30 players in thew tourney. If a stupid player is sencond on rankings, then his first picklist is 2 long his second list is 29 long. Final score is the sum of the 2 picks. That would give some compensation to lower ranked players.

Just let me know and I provide Solution III, IV, V :D

Igorche

I do not know, it would get complicated, we'll see.

I decided to finish this season with the current rules, from 2014 (if I do not give up on game) we will start with the new rules.

There might be some more test games.

We will vote for the new rules in off-season.
