What are your sources of information? As a rather pessimistic person, I will only believe it when I see her walking on court.
Looking at her past, it has always been quite a bad sign, when she didn`t Tweet during injuries!? Let`s hope for the best!
But even if she`ll be healthy for the AO, she usually needs quite some matches to find her form!:(
I hope I`ll be proven wrong!;)

Good signs, nice footage :) So I assume she will play. I really miss her in the Sydney tournament, which doesn't interest me much at all with the way results have gone. I hope the Australian Open will be alot better!

I guess Sabine would have told us already if she withdrew, I mean, anything else would be weird, especially as she is practicing already in Melbourne and was on twitter again!
But yeah, she probably is testing herself if she is fit enough, serve is for sure which hurts most with such an injury and u couldn´t see her hitting a serve in that clip anyway but I really hope that she plays at least, would be really disappointing otherwise!

Shahar Peer had a stress fracture of her back at the tail end of last season, so don't know how she'll play. Then again, don't know how Sabs will play either!

Depending on which qualifier she gets, she should be able to win her 1R. 2R will be tough but Shahar has been playing like shit lately (but you never know-- Holland may pull off the 'upset'). And who knows what we'll get with Sveta tbh. She is so up and down like Sabine. If she makes it to the 4R to play Masha then I'll be happy win or lose.

German TV report

uCSVmiIxCX4&hd=1

She said it's very nice in Melbourne. You can walk along the Yarra River in the evening, go into cafes and simply relax. The first big tournament of the year is never easy to play, you haven't played many tournaments. But you wanted to get better and worked very hard, so it's interesting to see who is in which form. Regarding the higher pressure on her due to Andrea's withdrawal she said you have to concentrate on yourself, give your best, then you will see what happens.

there´s no doubt about winning easily for Sabine but don´t underrate Stefanie she could make it hard for our sweetie... Sabine will play in Tuesday. I saw Voegele in Sydney vs Azarenka, she hasn't nothing to answer against Vika, but it's normal. She has quite decent starts in Australia this year, she beat some good players and is accustomed to conditions in Melbourne. At Sabine is a lot of question marks: Is she's healthy? What is her form? What finally is the service? I hope Sabine will answer on these questions by the convincing straight sets victory :)

Sabine should beat Vögele but you can´t be 100% sure about as Sabine can easily defeat herself on a bad day anyway!
I hope that she stays painfree and that she can find her service rhythm soon , then she should win this in two sets, otherwise it could become pretty ugly again with a Sabine who can´t serve and has no confidence in her strokes ( well, se saw that before, we know how this would look then :tape:)

anyway, I think Sabine will win this somehow as long as she doesn´t retire, but not sure if it will a convincing win, let´s hope for the best! :)

I do criticise her if its merited, so I did today quite a few times, but I also like to remain positive! She played bad, but I love her so much, she needs encouragement not just criticism!

It is a new year, It would be nice to get along more with my fellow Sabine fans in 2012, I'm respecting your opinions, I won't be going too far with some of my 'antics' like in 2011 which bothered you, but I can't stop supporting Sabine just because some of you don't like me. Phew! Not pretty, but Sabs made it. She won't have a chance of winning it playing like that though. Can she step it up? Peer won't let her off the hook so easily.

As for her continuing injury issues, I wil repeat what I said in another thread. If she is suffering continual problems, her Team, which presumably includes her dad, surely MUST analyse what she is doing during training - there has to be close scrutiny to determine why she is so prone to injury. And then change it...or them.

Lisickifan84
Jan 17th, 2012, 06:33 AM
She clearly had health problems and wrestled through, this is what matters, nothing else.

I don't think so. Why she could play such great points sometimes? Especially the first 2 points after her medical timeout. That was a very bad match from Sabine (first set was good). I suppose, that she had realized in the middle of the second set she is not in a good shape and maybe she was getting nervous to lose in the first round?

The one good thing is, she has reached the next round. :worship:

I'm sure against Peer we will see a better Sabine.

Those who have a realistic perception of her and think that the quality of criticism on her on this board shouldn't be as bad as her matches can be will always be criticized because of lack of criticism.

Last year some users called her mentally weak and that she can't win close matches. Now I'm happy that she did that despite her predictable bad shape, which isn't a surprise for everyone who is willing to take a serious approach to her career. She basically played 3 months on a consistently good level since her comeback 1 1/2 years ago and it's far from reality to believe that she is already able to regain that kind of play easily at anytime.

Jan 17th, 2012, 10:13 AM
well, we all know that Sabine didn´t play much since NY last year and that she had some problems with health but we it is pretty useless to mention that over and over again!
Sabine herself just said that she played a bad match but that she won it at least and that she has to improve against Peer and she also said after the match that she is pain free now, so that is all what counts!
Her shape isn´t the best, that´s Sabine´s problem often, she loses her rhythm easily and it takes a pretty long time until she finds some form again ( we all still have those terrible defeats in our heads from end of 2010/start of 2011). Most important is that she is able to beat decent players, even when she doesn´t play good and now she just has to stay healthy and then improve from match to match!

Her match last summer against Peer was awful and it still was close, Sabine actually has the two weapons to destroy Peer´s game, good first serve herself and good return.
But we all know that her serve isn´t a weapon these days, this can improve against Peer but it won´t be at 100% obviously!
Sabine herself has to attack the weak serves from Peer (especially 2nd serve), has to put pressure on her immediately.

But as I said, her serve is too weak these days, too many UEs in general and fragile body, so I don´t expect her to win but it is obviously in Sabine´s hand!

As we have seen, today's match conditions were extreme.
today, was not only very windy, but also the first day heat. More than 35 grad :weirdo:
It was seen that Sabine, who is a better tennis player with even greater potential.
Only they did today, with this strong wind, a lot of simple mistakes.
Many good with tennis have in such AND CONDITIONS, big problems.
A lot of good, have the first round, won barely. Many lost unexpectedly!
And Sabine, despite training without residue and without match practice, has won. :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:
As I heard, she has fantastic fought to the end. :worship: :worship: :worship::hearts:

Because Jane has not been reached yet good the form,
against peer, will be determined very difficult.
But this season I'm very positive. yThe year is still very young :lick:

I think some people here expect alot from her and want her to do really well because they enjoy following her like me not just for her tennis, but because of her charm, beauty and great personality too  :hearts: but different people have different ways of showing it. Many players play good tennis and have attacking styles but few also have such a personality. We should always remember when criticising that she is doing her best to win and she clearly loves the game so much, it's not a question of not giving 100% when she doesn't play so well. We'd all like to be experts on what her game needs to improve and the coaching situation, but I don't pretend to know better than Sabine on what she needs for herself.

and to the critics and the next match:
I love her how she is - nobody is perfect!
Perfectionism is the opposite of charm
It's normal not to be in best shape when you aren't able to practice hard because of physical pain. Season is still young and when she manages to make less mistakes (UE) than she did last match, when her first service will come about 60%, why not reaching third round and then she's got not the hardest way to the 4.round;)

She'll give everything possible, I'm sure about!

My Match Analyze

An interesting match is waiting us.
With looking their stats, motivation, skills and of course their last meetings it is hard to pick a winner for this match
Shahar played good tennis in the pre. Australian Open tournaments. She played against Petkovic. It was her first match in 2012 and she played well. Her first serve percentage was %71 and she won %50 of them. She had 4 aces and 5 double faults. She loose in 3 sets however she fought really well. In her second match of 2012 she played against Lucie Hradecka who is in a good shape this year and in 55 min. she defeated her with %62 first serve, %83 1st serve point won and with 1 double fault....

She played her first round match against Holland and in that match Peer had %80 1st serve, %82 1st srver point, %50 1st return point and %80 2nd return point.

On the other hand, Sabine started year with a victory against Razano in 85 minutes with 4aces, 7 double fault, %52 1st serve, %76 first serve point. After that she played against her countrywomen Barthel and she defeated Barthel who is in good shape this year with 7 aces, 7 double fault, %54 first serve, %54 1 serve point won, %41 1st return point. She played a good 3rd set but in her next match against Kerber she retired with an abdominal injury.

Sabine played her first match against Voegele and she played terrible! She had 55 UE, 150kph first serve average, %39 1st return point, 6 double fault, %50 first serve and just 3 aces.. I'm sure this match was one of the worst match Sabine had played...

So looking with this stats Lisicki in not trustable for this match. If Sabine was playing her real game only Sabine can lost to Peer, not Peer can win Sabine(depends on Sabine) but now Sabine has lack of motivation, concentration and maybe still abdominal injury + imo she need a professional coach, physio etc. With all of these you can win Voegele but not strong motivated Shahar Peer.

If Sabine wants to win she has to find fast 1st serve and must put the balls to the corners and find winners because Shahar is really good in rallies, Sabine is making errors so she has to avoid playing long rallies.
My heart wants to Sabine to win but my mind says Peer will win.

I think it's clear...that on here...I don't cheer...for Shahar Peer. (Sorry Shahar!)

I pray for a Sabs W. I think their H-t-H is 2-2. So she is not without a chance. But Sabs has to play much better, because Peer will be ready for a scrap.

It's gonna be a match that will shred our nerves...Sabs will make sure it does! I fancy a three-setter again.

I fear I agree with Geekking - but I hope - HOPE - he & I are wrong. It's not beyond Sabs to play herself into the tourney & into a rhythm. Not the first player not to play well but go deep into a tourney either.

I have a mission for all of you. Please tell me, what do you think. What time Sabine will play?

First match: Sara Errani(ITA) vs. Nadia Petrova(RUS)[29] --> I guess 2 sets win for Petrova. 90 minutes.

Second match: Ryan Sweeting(USA) vs. David Ferrer(ESP)[5] --> I think, there will be 4 sets and 1:3 for Ferrer at the end. 3 hours and 30 minutes.

Sabine will play at 4pm Melbourne time. What do you think?

Watching Sabine on TV this afternoon :) By the sounds of people's expectations, I don't envy you 'losing sleep' over a match you fear Sabine will lose. But you know, I didn't watch the match against Peer in Cincinatti. Then when I found out the score I didn't want to see a replay. Forget about the last match v Peer, forget about the mess of a match against Voegele. Let's be positive! because Sabine surely has to play better than on Tuesday and maybe she can warm into this tournament and surprise people! She is afterall ranked No 15 in the world, is that ranking a false indication of her ability? I don't think so. Peer will try to push Sabine into errors and out of the match but don't underestimate Sabine's fighting qualities. She must obviously improve her 1st serves and her game in general, I feel she will motivated more for this match than the game against Voegele.

Good win for Sabine! :D
Good that she seems to be healthy now again, that is most important!
And as I said before, she has perfect game to beat Peer and on a "normal" day she would never lose to someone like Peer and she showed that today!
Peer´s serve is horrible, she has no ability to hit many winners, was all in Sabine´s hand and she did good today.
Only got broken once where she probably lost concentration a bit but she broke back immediately which was really important while Peer was just bad as usual these days :spit:

Now against Kuznetsova, will be interesting, Sveta´s serve seemed to be better earlier in Auckland and Sydney but here in Melborune it is terrible again, against Stephens she made many UEs and wasn´t impressive at all!
But we never know what we get, from both players, really hard to predict, judging from today´s performance Sabine is the fave but not predictable here.
I just hope for a good match, 4th round would be nice but no shame losing to Kuznetsova! :)

SABINE!! :cool::hearts::kiss:

Oh my lovely champion woman showed her fight in the end to produce an amazing comeback win She was a mess in the first 8 games but she never gave up. Sveta frustrated her with impressive angles but Sabine got her head right finally and started to hold serve, the rest of her game fell into place! 6 drops of serve for the match doesn't look good but this is the result that shows how much her mental toughness has improved!

Sharapova in the 4th Round. Low expectations, lower than Wimbledon semi in my opinion. Just ask for her to fight hard and play like against Peer and second half of the Kuznetsova match.

Impressive fight here from Sabine from 26 13* down, Sveta was giving her the chance to come back but she was able to take it and that is really great! :D
Some great points, good movement, was really some good play in 2nd and 3rd set!
Serve is still not as good as it could/should be but it will get better again if she stays injury free as such matches definitely help her to get some confidence back which is so important for her game!

First win for Sabine over a top 20 player since Stanford!

She'll have a heck of an incentive - if Makarova can beat Serena, then Sabs can beat Maria. She needs to enjoy herself & treat Maria as just another player. Play without fear & pressure. C'mon Aussie Bine C'Mon!!! :bounce:

If she's playing her best she can definitely win this match. I just hope she's not too nervous about playing on RLA at night. But surely she can draw on her experience playing on Centre Court at Wimbledon, or on Arthur Ashe, to overcome these nerves. Auf geht's.

I want her to win this match so much. Maria's physio Juan Reque laugh me when I said I'm fan of Sabine in Istanbul. He said she can't defeat Maria and I said we will see. I have his phone number and if Sabine defeat Maria I'll call him and laugh him like he did to me :)

She loose the Maria but compared to beginning of the year especially AO she played very well. She couldn't use the break points if she had used them she would have won the match. After wasting the bps, her game and mental strength started to decrease.

I'm sad but not much compared to any lose from her because she fought till the end, showed great defence, her serves were bad but compared to Voegele match seemed much better.

Her comeback in 1st set was amazing. She played to Maria's baseline and forced Maria to play points fast and she made errors. She had chances in 2ns and 3rd set but she couldn't manage to use them.

We were expecting her to withdraw from AO but she played 4rd round.

Thanks Sabine for showing us your tennis and making us happy and proud.

You are the champion and #1 in my heart!

Good Luck!

Disappointed she lost, but she definitely exceeded my expectations this tournament. 1) Defeating Sveta 2) Achieving her best result at AO and 3) taking a set off a player she had been steam rolled by all other times they played. Amazing fight out there, Sabine. Great start to what will hopefully be her best year on tour yet. :worship:

Verdammt!:(
She could have won this, but still a great match.
Next time she`ll beat her.

All in all a good tournament from Sabine, even when she had phases of weakness, she always was able to fight herself out of them!
Especially considering the bad preparation, with injury and bad form.

If she stays injury-free and keeps playing the way she did today, this could be an awesome year!:)

The loss hurts! BUT I'm very proud of her :):cool: She showed why she's my favourite person to ever play tennis and I've watched plenty of tennis!.. She lost the match but she fought for every point and won a set. Her serve still isn't where it should be but her rallying improved alot the last few games and she was unlucky with a few crucial points! I feared an embarassment after the first 3 games but what a turnaround. Sad she couldn't take her chances but atleast now more people in Australia, and other parts of the world know about the game of Sabine Lisicki, and what a fighter and what a great spirit and sportswomanship she plays with. Maria as good as she is, will never make a fan out of me because of her diva like attitude and noise. It's just too much! :o

It is normal to be disappointed straight after the match!
Sabine had her chances today, Sharapova didn´t play great today, with almost 50 UEs but Sabine couldn´t take her chances unfortunately.

But I like Sabine´s attitude, she always fights, first set after 63 after 03 was amazing, problem was that her serve isn´t as strong as it has to be against players like Sharapova, already saw that against Kuznetsova as well, not even winning 60% there over 1st serve, has to improve there but I am sure that she will if she stays injury free now. Positive thing is obviously that she still can win such matches like today even without a good serve.
She really surprised me here with reaching 4th round but she just fought very well throughout the tournament, 2-4 down to Vögele in 3rd set and 26 13 down to Kuznetsova and she won both matches.
Today she wasn´t able to come back after losing 3rd set although she had chances but that is typical for Sharapova, she often isn´t impressive at all but usually wins such matches as she just is mentally strong and her 1st serve worked really well in last two sets as well. Sabine could win such matches as well, as I said, but only if her serve works ( she showed that in Wimbledon how confident she can be in important situations as well when she is on 100%)

So in general a great tournament for Sabine, bad preparation , almost nothing worked for her since NY with injuries etc but still was able to win three matches here , beating a top 20 player, and even had her chances today, we can be really positive about future but ( and that is often the only problem of Sabine) only if she stays healthy, that will be the most important thing of Sabine´s career in future as well beside consistency of her serve!

Well done for Melbourne :D

I'm disappointed that she lost today. She could have won this especially at the early 3rd sets. I don't think she has done enough attack the Maria's serve which is Maria's biggest weakness.
However she fight to the bitter end like she always does.;) Not since Wimbledon that she have play as well as today. In fact she played better today than the last time she played against Maria. She has done well out of a very tough draw especially she had bad preparation towards it.
I think she is still improving and if she stays healthy I think one day she will doing even better than this time. :)

If you ever wonder where the players spend time at Melbourne Park when they're not playing, the Dove Player Beauty Bar could be your answer.

The Dove Player Beauty Bar is a place where the players can relax, get a haircut, and enjoy a bit of pampering to escape the Australian heat and the rigors of playing and training.
...

“We’ve actually got quite friendly with a lot of them. Vera Zvonareva loves coming back each year, Daniela Hantuchova is a really nice girl and Sabine Lisicki is just gorgeous,” Ricca said.

On return from injury, she rose to prominence and gained worldwide notoriety with her first semi-final appearance in a Grand Slam at Wimbledon last year, after receiving a wild card entry, the first time in 12 years that a German woman since Steffi Graf had gone that far into a major. By beating then French Open champion Li Na and Serena Williams on the way to an eventual defeat to perennial nemesis Maria Sharapova, Lisicki had proved she was able to mix it with the tour’s top players at such a young age.

Well waddayaknow!!! Sabs is even better than I realised!! :haha:

For me Wimbledon 2008 Finale was the best match I've ever seen because both players were on the top of what they can play at that moment and I never forget the tiebreak of set 4 with that incredible two points (maybe the 2 best points of the tournament), first from Rafa to get the matchpoint and then a world class backhand from Federer!

Today, Nole was not on court (I think because of the last match) during set 1. But the intensity, the crowd, the fighting players, what a match! Nadal is such a hero and he never gives up, what a champion. Despite Nole wins it 6 or 7 times in a row against Nadal. Awesome!

That is why we all love Tennis :)

To get more on topic, let's hope Sabine will show us in the future some Grand Slam finals. The one question is, how many of Sabine Fans get a heart attack during her finale, because we cheer so much with her.

I feel the same. I think there is an unpredictability with the women's game that arguably makes it more exciting to watch than the men's which, while you get epic matches occasionally, is always going to be the 3 or 4 guys fighting for the top trophies, but with the women's it's often anyone's guess.

Sabine's matches at the Aus Open were an absolute rollercoaster, I feel alot less relaxed watching her than Andy because I want her to win so badly! I'm not sure if she was carrying an injury over from the previous tournament but the changes in momentum against the Swiss player and Kuznetsova were unreal, she definitely has an uncanny way of getting through tough matches which will stand her well in future tourns, but it would be nice to see a few more straight set matches, she definitely has the power game to do it. :)

That`s true, but I think, now that she is healthy and feels confident, those straight set wins will come again. Like e.g. the second half of last year, while she was healthy, she regularely had very impressive wins against lower ranked players. (and also some of higher rank) It was only in the matches, where she seemed scared or at least impressed by the opponent (e.g. Serena or Svonareva) that she crumbled, no? Of course, then the illness and injuries came again, just like before the AO.
But now it seems she has the guts again... so excited about her match against Kvitova!:)

While I love men's tennis, what you said above is the reason why I love the WTA more. You just never know who is going to win these days because there is no dominant player at the moment. For example, the French coming up... no bloody clue who will win that (did anyone really predict Fran would win in 2010?) Where as the men, it's pretty much a guarantee it'll be either Rafa or Nole.

I think having 4 different Slam winners last year (3 of them being first time winners) has really opened up the women's draw at Slams even more than it has the past couple of years. This year could be the most unpredictable year for the WTA ever and I'm pretty excited about that.
