So Kiri is actually in Qualies.

Erika Sema (JPN) v Sofia Arvidsson (SWE)
Iryna Bremond (FRA) v Anastasija Sevastova (LAT)
Monique Adamczak (AUS) v (10)Alexandra Dulgheru (ROU)

She plays 2nd tomorrow. I'll be there :cheer:

Great, hopefully you could be her lucky charm there :)

by the way why is she not in MD ? late registration, not good enough ranking (even so she's top30) ?

Come on Maria :cheer:

Nikkiri
Jan 5th, 2012, 09:36 AM
Strong field she was only like 3 out of MD. Basically the whole 20 is there minus like 3 players.

I hope I am. I'll take lots of pics :p

Who are the WC?

She better qualifies...

Nikkiri
Jan 5th, 2012, 10:24 AM
There were 2 top 20 WCs but no one took them so they go to the top 2 alts Hantuchova and Safarova. It's kinda better for her to play Q's instead of straight in MD anyways.

kirivanovic
Jan 5th, 2012, 10:34 AM
Okay, that's fair. Yeah, maybe playing matches against less good players will give her rythm before the MD and we'll see how ready she is after her training/holidays in the USA.

I think qualies will be good considering she didn't play this week. Make it to the main draw Maria!

I knew she was playing this night (in France), thanks to this 10h lag I was sleeping and not following the livescore

Glad she finally won after being 2-5 down in 3rd :help:

Hopefully she will improve for next match.

For reals?

I didn't even realize that she was playing today.

Hard to believe she has to play qualies ^^

She should have been up 4-0 in the final set. Had gps and break points but couldn't convert. Lepchenko kept getting coaching even after her coach came down twice, he was standing on the balcony where players can sit and watch giving her all kinds of hand signals. I can't believe she saved mpps and won, she's a fighter. :) Her serve needs some work. Far too many annoying DFs. At one stage she let out the biggest sigh.

I'll upload some more pics later.

Glad you survived this match, it should have been really tough to see it live. You said her serve was quite bad, how was the rest of her game ?

Can't wait for more pics :bounce:

Not a great performance but glad that she won saving a MP

Nikkiri

Rest of her game was okay.. lacking a bit of power but she prob just needs a few matches to get going. Also she didn't come forward enough.

Very very close... But it was only the first match of the year, hopefully she can rise her form.

It's actually good that she plays qualifying in the end, imagine she would have played only main draw directly against someone really good...

Good luck for your next match!

@Agronsky: Have fun ;) (Actually I'm a little jealous ;) )

Nina.
Jan 6th, 2012, 01:28 PM
wow, very close match but I'm happy that she could come back and win in the end. After all it's just the first match of the year so it's understandable that she needs some time to find her rhythm.
Arvidsson is next, haven't seen her play in ages but I hope Kiri can get through a bit easier :)

Remix13
Jan 6th, 2012, 02:11 PM
Maria has never played against Arvidsson and I have no clue how Arvidsson plays. Considering this plus Kiri is not at her best yet, this match is uncertain

Hopefully Maria will prevail

Oh you've seen Ivanovic, Radi, Bepa and Lucie too, great :)

Maria has the same dress than at the end of 2011, I wonder if she will have a new one for AO

Anyway thx for the photos ;)

Serve is up the shit again

Kiri not a happy baby right now

2 terrible calls against Kiri and she asks "are you joking" then she just leaves a ball that was going in... not happy at all.

Kiri just threw her racquet... nothing working at all

getting bageled and losing in qualies to arvidsson totally amazing prep.

Well Kiri tanked the final games just terrible didn't even care

Shouldn't have switched racquets. She's hitting with even less power than before

Is it possible to go back to the old stick? I think Yonex discontinued her old one.

Nikkiri
Jan 7th, 2012, 07:53 AM
Yeah it was bad. Hoping maybe she just thinks she's too good for qualies  didn't want to be there. She can do much better. Too passive. The Kiri who beat Stosur twice last year was nowhere to be seen. She started well to go up 2-0 and I thought wow this will be good, she even served well.. then I dunno what happened. At 0-4 down Jimy was still trying to encourage her but she just didn't want to be there anymore.

Okay, fine. If she just plays well at the Australian Open everything is good. I'm just not optimistic...

Jan 7th, 2012, 01:07 PM
Honestly, I wasn't optimistic since I heard about Ovi, the fact that she was only gonna play Sydney before the AO, and why was she practicing with male juniors? I get the feeling she dislikes the new racket, as well. I'm pretty sure she'll lose first round at the AO. Must she have a boyfriend? I mean, some of her best results came when she was single...

watchdogfish
Jan 7th, 2012, 01:28 PM
Well that's disappointing. Not the fact that she lost but her attitude :(

Nina.
Jan 7th, 2012, 03:15 PM
Kiri :awww: not a great start into the year at all... But I hope the AO is going a bit better, I'm going to be optimistic.
So she screwed up qualies but I think it's still way too early to blame her new bf on the performance  (in general I'm not a fan of blaming the partner when a player sucks cause they're all adults who know what they have to do, it's their own fault when they have their priorities wrong ;))

Ovi's fans named Kiri as the reason why he was slumping. Just doing our part.:lol:

does the racket make such a big difference though? she uses the exact same string with the ezone now, which she used on her previous racket.

ezone
Jan 8th, 2012, 04:33 AM
don't think she would switch if she wasn't 100 percent confident in the racket; remember she spent the off season in u.s. with boyfriend, a new routine for her; probably practicing a lot less. relationships and tennis don't always go hand in hand. if it's the racket she will switch back; her head obviously wasn't into the match. we will see what will happen.

Nikkiri
Jan 8th, 2012, 09:39 AM
I also agree with not blaming it on her being in a relationship. Personally it bothered me when Ovi fans were calling her a jinx and whatever so I'm not about to do the same thing. Her coach said she had a good off season.. maybe she did. She just arrived in Australia later than she probably should have. It was only her 2nd match of the year.. there's no need to panic just yet. I believe she will have better results in Melbourne. And hopefully in doubles still.

I think she'll be fine for the Aussie. Just working out the kinks. Her season basically just started and definitely don't think it's her bf. If she's happy with him, I'm happy.
