View Full Version : 2012 Season

Dec 31st, 2011, 11:39 AM
Started 2012 with a win against Emily Fanning in qualifying for Auckland.

She plays Lepchenko next...here's to a win and a great 2012!

Dec 31st, 2011, 01:59 PM
I second that :) It will be good to get through the qualifying but whoever she gets in the first round will be tough but all these matches will be great for her :) :wavey:

Jan 1st, 2012, 12:20 PM
Beats Lepchenko pretty easily...6-3 6-3

Plays either Hampton or Falconi in the final round. Good Luck Anne

Jan 2nd, 2012, 11:11 AM
Loses 6-1 6-4 to Hampton :o

Not been an awful week but a disappointing loss nonetheless.
Hopefully a better result in Hobart :)

Jan 4th, 2012, 01:50 PM
Is she in the MD or Q for Hobart?

Jan 4th, 2012, 02:55 PM
Not sure yet. Quali draw out on Thursday.

Jan 5th, 2012, 08:14 PM
In Qualifying for Sydney and IMO has the hardest section of the draw.

Plays Krajicek first but her section includes Paszek, Jovanovski, Razzano, Tanasugarn, Parra Santonja and Voegele (whose in good form).

Jan 5th, 2012, 11:52 PM
Very tough qualifying draw. It's as good as some tournaments main draws!

Jan 12th, 2012, 11:37 PM
AO first round against Mona Barthel. Could have been a lot worse.

Jan 15th, 2012, 08:48 PM
Hmmm. Does win the h2h 2-1 but Barthel won Hobart a few days ago and is playing really well.

Good Luck Anne- I feel you need it

Jan 16th, 2012, 10:55 AM
She retired after getting bageled in first set :tears:

Jan 16th, 2012, 10:57 AM

Jan 16th, 2012, 04:37 PM
Can't be easy to play with food poisoning :(. I hope she feels better soon.

Jan 17th, 2012, 02:07 AM
Can't be too down about it. Was gonnabe a tough ask, healthy or not.
Stays top 100 too so we will just look forard to fed cup now :)

Feb 7th, 2012, 01:18 PM
Very good win for Anne today over Cibulkova!

Feb 11th, 2012, 09:38 AM
Anne really doesn't need her own player forum- it makes it so much more effort to post in this thread. :o

Lost to Mirza in R2 of Pattaya after her win over Domi which was disappointing. :(

Plays Laura today in R1 of Qatar Qualifying.

Feb 11th, 2012, 03:40 PM
She trashed Laura 61 61 :)

Feb 13th, 2012, 02:00 AM
And then beat Heather too.

Paszek in first round of Doha.
And yeah this thread should be moved, noone sees it here :(

Feb 13th, 2012, 08:47 PM
+1. I was already thinking that last year.

Nice win against Paszek. Aga up next.

Feb 17th, 2012, 08:10 PM
Good Luck Anne. I like you so much. Had seen you in Luxembourg last year against Monica. Great match

Feb 17th, 2012, 10:24 PM
Drawn Barthel in Dubai Q1. :o

Feb 21st, 2012, 11:09 PM
can AK topple Elena Baltacha from her British Number One ranking anytime soon?

Feb 22nd, 2012, 06:24 PM
I can't see it happening anytime soon because neither player has THAT many points to defend...

Feb 27th, 2012, 02:29 PM
AK not in the main draw for Miami so she will need to win three matches in the qualifying, she is in the main draw however for Indian Wells.

she could pick up some ranking points this week in Kuala Lumpur.

Feb 27th, 2012, 03:37 PM
Plays Hsieh in KL R1. Hsieh is playing well so it's actually a very tough match

Mar 8th, 2012, 11:11 AM
Unlucky in IW played a great match...

Mar 16th, 2012, 03:06 PM
Anne could be back in the Top 70 on Monday after gaining 5 points at Indian Wells and picking up a further 80 points at Nassau by reaching the SF today.

Mar 23rd, 2012, 02:36 AM
Not a great Miami :(

Apr 10th, 2012, 08:11 PM
I see Anne won her first round in Copenhagen, and will play Kerber next.

May 22nd, 2012, 02:03 PM
Oh dear.

From 6-2, 4-1, then 5-3 and serving for the match, to 5-6 and having to break to stay in the set.

Anne's uncanny ability to lose from a winning position seems to be coming to the fore again.

May 22nd, 2012, 02:16 PM
not good enough, Anne will lose this match now...

what a waste of time, does she have a coach at the moment?

May 22nd, 2012, 03:58 PM
Oh my god.

As far as the Olympic Wildcard goes...if anyone other than Heather gets it, it really will be ridiculous :o

May 22nd, 2012, 04:16 PM
Heather deserves it more than Bally/Anne...

May 22nd, 2012, 04:45 PM
Are we even assured of getting a wildcard? If so, do we get to choose who gets it?

May 22nd, 2012, 06:22 PM
I am actually very angry with Anne today, how on earth can she keep doing this to herself time and time again. a lead of 6-2 4-1 should be turned into a simple win but Anne constantly turns matches that she should win into defeats. Lucic served 14 double faults and still won the match- Anne needs to address her failure to win matches that she ends up losing, its embarassing...

May 29th, 2012, 02:05 PM
Just lost 6-1 6-2 in 1st round of RG to Czink :o

May 29th, 2012, 02:14 PM
Olympics- I dont think so, another horrible defeat for Miss Keothavong.

Jun 26th, 2012, 06:03 PM
Wimbledon Round 1: vs Pous Tio

Currently on court 3

Jun 26th, 2012, 07:13 PM
Anne won 6-3 6-3. From what i saw of the match, it was a little messy. Anne needs to tighten up on her serve.

Jun 26th, 2012, 07:28 PM
Anne really needs to push up the court more often, she tried to out-hit Laura from the back of the court- which worked, but when she attacked the net it made things so much easier!

Jun 27th, 2012, 04:24 PM
Congrats Anne and GL for tomorrow! :inlove:

Jun 29th, 2012, 02:23 PM
Anne receives Olympic Wild Card. :hearts:

Jun 29th, 2012, 02:23 PM
Lost 16 16 to Errani in R2 :o

Errani was very solid, and Anne's performance was pretty poor.

Still, R2 is something

Jul 9th, 2012, 04:50 AM
GL for olympic :hearts:

Jul 9th, 2012, 04:51 AM
Anne is playing Stanford this week.
Random usa wc in r1, then bartoli.
Gl :yeah:

Jul 11th, 2012, 10:17 AM
disappointing defeat in Stanford.

Jul 11th, 2012, 11:34 AM
Indeed :o

There is no excuse for such a loss, although those who watched the match said that Newbie was doing really well...

Jul 11th, 2012, 11:38 AM
this is a typical Keothavong match- good start, weak finish.

she just does not have the mental toughness than Watson has.

Jul 11th, 2012, 11:40 AM

dont get how she can win first set so easily and then everything turns into disaster :o

Jul 13th, 2012, 10:23 PM
I can't believe she lost to Burdette- the girl lost to Embree in NCAA last year :o

Jul 15th, 2012, 09:52 PM
Carlsbad R1 against Erakovic

Jul 15th, 2012, 09:54 PM

Judging by her last-week form I dont really expect much, but we will see.

Jul 17th, 2012, 07:34 PM

This was NID. Hoping for a kinder draw next time.

Jul 26th, 2012, 07:57 PM

Jul 26th, 2012, 07:58 PM

She played really well in 1st set :awww:

Jul 31st, 2012, 07:25 AM
A valedictory tweet (https://twitter.com/annekeothavong/status/230066879509708800) from Anne?
Got a little emotional at the end there with @ElenaBaltacha. It's been a long and educational journey. Who knows what the future holds.

Jul 31st, 2012, 05:47 PM
Lost in doubles too :awww:

Not successful olympics at all  :smooch:

I'm not expecting much tbh until the indoor ITF's later in the year.

Aug 14th, 2012, 10:41 AM
Anne is ranked #79 this week.

Still surviving in top 80  :)

Aug 21st, 2012, 08:19 AM
She lost to Erakovic 16 75 67 :bigcry:

But however Im glad to see she played much better this time and didnt give up when Erakovic was 61 43 up and serving.

But it kinda sucks losing in TB but it looks promissing for USO ( If she gets a kind draw of course)

Out of the Top 100 for the first time this year after her defeat today.

she should be around 105 next week but may need to qualify for the Australian Open if she fails to defend her titles in Barnstaple and Munich.

Anne has had a poor year this year.

Oct 16th, 2012, 12:40 AM
Got in as a LL.

Faces Bertens in round one.

Oct 16th, 2012, 06:11 AM

Oct 19th, 2012, 03:04 PM
Tennis seems like a joy to Heather and Laura but a chore to Anne...

is Heather and Laura's success having a negative effect on Anne? it cant be easy for her.

Oct 19th, 2012, 05:10 PM
I don't think Anne's loss of form has anything to do with Laura and Heather.

GL ANNE :scared:

Oct 23rd, 2012, 11:45 PM
Anne lost today in Munich so this means now she will end the year around 140 in the world if she fails to win her final event of the year next week in Barnstaple.

Its been a very poor year from Anne Keothavong and I wonder if 2013 will be her swansong?

she is a much better player than her ranking suggests but she has failed to be inspired by Heather Watson and Laura Robson.

She will go to Australia likely unseeded in the qualifying for the Australian Open and I am not confident she will even qualify for the event the way she is playing right now.

Oct 24th, 2012, 04:18 PM
I feel like retirement will be very soon

Oct 25th, 2012, 01:21 AM
I think next year could be her last year but I don't think she is quite done yet.

She will not want to play if she is can't get into the slams on merit, she will have to play qualifying for Australia but after that she can start picking up points again.

Her website seems to have gone too.

Oct 25th, 2012, 06:10 AM
:tears: Anne

also lost in doubles yesterday.

Nov 11th, 2012, 09:00 PM
She finished year with ranking of 143 :tears: Really felt badly these last couple of weeks especially, but whole year has been terrible generally.

Come back stronger for 2013 please Anne :)

Nov 15th, 2012, 09:11 AM
almost certainly looking at been unseeded for the Australian Open qualifying, will she make it through?

Dec 29th, 2012, 02:43 PM
Are we starting a new thread for 2013? Seems a little pointless, lol.

But on positive news, Anne won the first set of her qualifying match 63. To be completed today!
Come on Anne, start the year positively :)

Dec 30th, 2012, 03:25 AM
And she wins, 63 46 60.

Tougher than it should have been, but a win is a win.

Dec 30th, 2012, 09:19 AM
Are we starting a new thread for 2013? Seems a little pointless, lol.

Why, are you expecting the subforum to be closed or something?

For me, it's anathema to put 2013 stuff in the 2012 thread. You should get Joe. to rename it, or start a new one. That's my vote, at any rate.

Dec 31st, 2012, 08:46 AM
Lost to Peng in China but should pick up some ranking points. Now travelling to Melbourne to prepare for Australian Open Qualifying...

Dec 31st, 2012, 11:38 AM
At least she qualified......thats not a bad start. If she can qualify for Melbourne then this could be a better year yet.

Dec 31st, 2012, 02:29 PM
She did well to qualify, Peng was not a good draw for her.

On to the Australian Open we go.

Jan 7th, 2013, 09:34 AM
Do you think she will qualify for Melbourne? its likely she will be unseeded in the Qualifying...

Jan 10th, 2013, 07:19 AM
Sadly Anne lost her 1R Qualifying match to Grace Min 7-5 7-5, I starting to think this is it for Keothavong now...

David Barker
Jan 10th, 2013, 08:00 AM
Anne led 52 and serving in the second set......

Very disappointing.

Jan 10th, 2013, 08:01 AM
Kinda expected, but still...

Just not sure how motivated she'll continue to be with losses like this.

Jan 10th, 2013, 08:44 AM
Anne did say a few years back she was not content to play the tour being ranked down in the hundreds.

Does anybody think the success of Robson and Watson has affected Anne in a negative way?

Jan 10th, 2013, 11:38 AM
If Johanna Konta qualifies then she no doubt leapfrog Keothavong in the rankings...

Jan 10th, 2013, 02:55 PM
I personally don't think it has much, if anything, to do with Laura and Heather.

The bad form has pretty much been there since the beginning of 2011. Only a brief run of form at the end of 2011 kept her in top 100 for 2012, and once those points were off, she plummeted. So it doesn't really seem that it can be because of the youngsters. I think she is just coming to the end of her career, and lacks real fight.

She served for both sets today, and in fact was up 52 with a DOUBLE break in the second set.

Jan 10th, 2013, 03:36 PM
She has never had the mental toughness of a Baltacha or the natural talent of a Watson or Robson..its a real shame but maybe this is the end for Anne...

Jan 10th, 2013, 03:37 PM

I actually think she is quite talented, her groundstrokes are easily top 50 material when she is 'on'

But she has horrendous shot selection, and mentally she is incredibly weak. Shame.

It's a shame because throughout the 'noughties' she was, without a doubt, the most successful Women's British tennis player.

5 WTA Semi Finals including one in a Premier tournament.
3rd round of the US Open in '08.
19 ITF Titles (1 $100k, 1 $75k, 4 $50k, 7 $25k, 7 $10ks)
Career High of #48.
Over $1,200,000 in prize money.

It's such a shame she's lost total form

Evans, I agree with you I think we have to remember Anne's achievements and the fact is she has been successful in terms of ranking, playing regularly in Grand Slams and reaching a SF every year from 2008-11. I can see Anne going into TV commentary and I think she will do well, if the likes of Paul Hand and Lucie Ahl can do that and they achieved nothing then Anne can and I would not begrudge her.

However she has virtually no ranking points to defend this year except Wimbledon so we may see some wins yet but the most alarming part of Anne's game is her mental fragility and Tennis is all about the mind...

I agree I think we have to recognise Anne's talents, I wonder if the Injury she substained in Stanford in 2009 curtailed her? she had those three SF's in 2009.

Last year was a dreadful year for Anne but I cant help thinking that Watson and Robson's success has has an affect, it must be hard to see these two young girls come up and just by pass her and Baltacha.

Anne's major problem is her mental strength, in contrast to Watson and Robson Anne is a good starter and then loses her way.

She has few points to defend so maybe she will play the ITF circuit for a bit.

I can see Anne going into Commentary, if the likes of Barry Cowan, Lucie Ahl and Paul Hand can do that then Anne can, Anne's achievements should be recognised but ultimately the younger two girls are mentally stronger and ultimately better tennis players.

Good start of the season qualifying for Shenzhen, then a really bad loss at AO. :o

However, I dont think she is done, wont be surprised if she finds her form soon all of a sudden. Its not like she is completely hopeless.

Lets see what happens. Meanwhile, Im opening 2013 cheering thread. :D
