not a easy first round
last time i saw Peer was against Lisicki on the US-Series
but Lisicki was on self-destruction-mode, Peer just had to keep the ball in
Peer is with Salomon now, or? so i expect her to improve
Petko need to beat her, somehow, 2nd round should be easier

I remember that game very well :(
but I think normally, Petko will better manage the strange style of Peer's all-returning-game
(than Sab)
hope so and wish her a great start in 2012!

I think despite the match from 2 years ago, this shouldn't be as hard as Peer though. But no guarantees :)

now vs. Kanepi
who seemed to be on fire against Pavlyuchenkova
hope Petko can move her around and serves better then the round before
but it will be tough for sure
i even think Kanepi is the slight fav

Carsten
Jan 4th, 2012, 07:17 PM
I think Pavlyu also must have been very bad when she loses 0 & 3. But I also expect a close match. Andrea has to play agressive and make Kanepi run, than she should have the edge.

Andrea once again showed her mental strength in her first 2 matches! :worship:

Of course she has to improve, but Peer and Strycova were not easy opponents. And nice that her Head To Head vs Strycova is now 1-1. Brisbane QF vs Kanepi will definitely be interesting. Could be a close match, happy there will be a stream!

Someone saw the match?

Jan 5th, 2012, 07:12 PM
I watched the whole match on live stream.

Over much of the first set Andrea was almost hopelessly inferior to Kaia - she couldn't cope with Kaia's serve (which extended to a lesser extent in 2nd set too), the rallys, the body language. Kaia fired her serves and winners mercilessly in the corners or precisely on the lines. Not a single challenge from Andrea turned out to be for her
Almost all of Petko's points in the 1st set were UEs from Kanepi, who played her groundstrokes quite often too long. Then she threw her few chances away and produced a lot of UEs. Obviously she feared to become bagelled so the even smiled at the one game she won (for 1-5).
The pic changed gradually after the 2nd game of 2nd set, as she began constantly improving. Once she survived the returns she won most rallys then and produced some nice shots, mostly after long rallys. She reduced her error rate while Kaia's increased. Great was the re-break when Kaia was serving to the match. In the tie-break Andrea was a bit unlucky - though it was a close tie. She survived 4 match points (one at 1-6 3-5, the others in the tie break).
I appreciate the way she worked herself into the 2nd set and on the reaction of Kaia one could read that she was truly happy to get through in two sets. I guess the chances of a win in three for Andrea were not too slim. ;)
Kaia is astonishingly in-form and thus a major threat to anyone when she can hold this (which was a problem in the past). The overall impression of Petko was not too bad - again she learnt and improved a lot of things during she much, at lest it didn't turn out as well as against BZS.:)

So far goes my impression; I'm new here and for some months only reading I feel it gets time to do some posts :wavey:

thanks for your summary, nice to read, hard to take (concerning Andrea's late start to get back: guess the strong comeback in 2nd set cost her too much steam to succeed in the tbk). Very interesting how Kaia is steadily improving her game, getting her assurance back again. That's a truth not too tough to sustain.

The match against Kanepi showed a couple things to me:

- Andrea still needs to improve her serve.
- When a player as capable as Kanepi is at her best, Petkovic struggles.

Petkovic vs Pavlyuchenkova 1R :)

possible rematch with Lady Aga in 2R; pretty stacked draw

matthias
Jan 7th, 2012, 10:53 AM
Kanepi won Brisbane, and so its not a shame she lost o her too, she is just on fire these days

Sydney is a loaded Draw

(1)Wozniacki v BYE
Cibulkova v Peng
Pavlyuchenkova v Petkovic
Q v (7)Radwanska

hopefully she can beat at least Pavlyuchenkova :)

Danars
Jan 7th, 2012, 12:47 PM

Dorien.

In one of her last interviews she admitted she don't like playing counterpunchers like Kerber (ag her she has a balance 0 - 6or7) and Aga is the same type of player, but still much better:p

Would be surprised if Petko will win it.

her backproblems would explain her weak serve, well, it wss never great, but it seems to be really weak these Days
