It maybe too soon to post it out.... But I believe some of the guys will be interested in what the rankings may look like towards Australian Open 2003!?

How it works:
Points taken off from tournaments in early 2002: Auckland / Gold Coast / Canberra / Hobart / Sydney / Australian Open
Add back: Best of 17 points (if any)

Projected Top20 Ranking:

1. Serena Williams --- 5941
2. Venus Williams --- 4668
3. Kim Clijsters --- 3013
4. Justine Henin --- 2824
5. Jennifer Capriati --- 2787
6. Amelie Mauresmo --- 2729
7. Daniela Hantuchova --- 2577
8. Jelena Dokic --- 2506
9. Monica Seles --- 2452
10. Anastasia Myskina --- 1901
11. Lindsay Davenport --- 1795
12. Chanda Rubin --- 1752
13. Patty Schnyder --- 1594
14. Magdalena Maleeva --- 1551
15. Silvia Farina Elia --- 1544
16. Martina Hingis --- 1386
17. Anna Smashnova --- 1385.5
18. Elena Dementieva --- 1316
19. Alexandra Stevenson --- 1278.25
20. Nathalie Dechy --- 1151

I cannot guarantee this is 100% correct, but hope you guys will appreciate it!!

Dokic won't play the Aussie Open so everyone below her will move up one spot as far as seedings are concerned.

so if "lucky"
Serena will have to beat Hingis in 4R
Jen in QF, Clijster in SF, and Venus in F...........
that i've gotta see,

PS: oh, my Elena just misses the cut for 16th seeding

But these won't be used for seedings. They will use the rankings from the week before, so the AO02 points will still be in the totals. That changes things quite a bit.

I can't stop being amazed at what Farina has done in the last couple of years... who would have thought!

Yeah, Serena is sitting far and square in that n.1 spot for quite a while. With the belgians closing in!

And Patty is a meager 300 points away from top10... so is Seles from top4, not much separating ppl in the spots 3-9.

Serena should be #1 until Wimbledon, at least.

These numbers are AFTER the Australian Open. There's no way Kim and Jennifer will be in the same half of the draw unless one Williams withdraws.

It all depends on who plays Gold Coast and Auckland and as of yet - they are both struggling for entries. The final entries for these events was meant to be on the 11th, but the WTA has extended it to the 18th for Exempt players - as no decent names have signed up for either event yet - Stevenson in Gold Coast and Smashnova in Auckalnd - only top 20's committed so far.... Smashnova can't go up - but Stevenson certainly can...

Interestingly - news from Hong Hong is that the exhibition in the first week of the year - competing alongside Gold Coast and Auckland - has attracted both Monica and Martina - Venus has now declined to play there after all. Well we now know that Martina is taking the start of the year seriously...

I'm sorry guys to interrupt ur intellegent talks about OZ seeds but how come it's so different from the current runking??? :o
OZ is in January how the runking could have changed so dramatically, we don't have many tournaments before OZ isn't it??? How Capriati became #5 instead of #3 and Hingis #16 instead of 10? :o

5 (4) HENIN, JUSTINE 3218.00
6 (5) MAURESMO, AMELIE 3068.00
7 (7) SELES, MONICA 2952.00
8 (8) HANTUCHOVA, DANIELA 2667.75
9 (9) DOKIC, JELENA 2506.00
10 (10) HINGIS, MARTINA 2348.00
11 (11) MYSKINA, ANASTASIA 1908.00
12 (12) DAVENPORT, LINDSAY 1795.00

FP, it's from up to and including the oz open.

but while i'm on the subject i expect stevenson to improve, that is if she keeps playing the way she has lately.

You should only remove the points for Auckland / Gold Coast / Canberra / Hobart to find out the seeds for AUS. The seeding are done during the week of Sydney, so they don't take it's points or Aus.

OZ 2003 seeds (http://www.wtaworld.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=45077)

Can't break down all the lower seeds for you, but here are the effective seeds for OZ. The only points that come off are Gold Coast and Aukland. The OZ seeds are made before Sydney, Canberra or Hobart points come off. Jenn will be #3 seed, Justine will be #5 or #6, since she has finalist points from Gold Coast last year coming off.

I think we all did.

People, that is just with points off, including the Australian. Those will not be the seeds.

Those also don't have any points added. Myskina could win Gold Coast, Sydney, and the Oz and be #4 at that point. So could Hingis. So could anyone.

KingA didn't mention a word of "Seeding" at all.... Simply showing what the rankings may look like.........

Yeah but this is what the rankings would be if no one played the warm up tourneys next year. Hingis probably won't fall to #16. If she loses in the first round of Sydney and the Australian Open or doesn't play them THEN she will be 16. I expect her to be around 7-8 after the Oz Open next year!

It's pretty obvious that Serena and Venus will seat at #1 and #2 for a long long time! With AO points off, Venus still is 1600 pts ahead of #3!!!!!! Imagine if she wins the thing!:)

AFTER the AUSOPEN Kim can add tounaments between Ausopen and IW therefore there is a (slight)CHANCE that Kim can challenge the no.2 ranking

Kim should gain ground on Venus for almost the whole year. With an edge of probably 1200 or more points for the fall, she has a decent shot at it.
