View Full Version : Make a BOLD prediction about the 2012 season

Temperenka

Nothing like "Maria will be #1" or "Serena will win a slam" or "Marion will eat cake."

Make a bold prediction and let's see at the end of the year if anyone is correct.

I'll start:

-Tsvetana Pironkova will reach the Wimbledon final.
-Petra Kvitova will go slam-less and fall out of the top 10.
-Nicole Vaidisova will end the year in the top 30.

- Jankovic will finish the year outside of the top 30 and retire.

Neither of these are bold. But this one is:

Eurosport won't show any of Radwanska's matches.

:hysteric:

Mine:

- the ballbasher who goes on a rampage during the clay season this year will be Kanepi. But unlike Caravane or Julinha, she'll back it up with a strong showing at RG (SF or better);

- Petkorazzi to replace Zvonareva as the Tour's on-call bridesmaid;

- Slamless Wozniacka to keep hold of #1 throughout the whole season;

- Babyfat won't crack the top 10;

- and finally the bold one: an U-21 basher will hit a purple patch and win (not do well - WIN) a depleted USO.

The Kanepi prediction is pretty bold too. However, she has made the QF of three slams before. I could see her having a clay season very similar to Petrova 2006. She's a good clay-courter who is capable of snatching wigs when playing well.

She could easily end the season top 10 if things go right.

Suitable candidates all still in the #100-200 range right now. But the USO is still so, so far away. And we'll witness massive personnel changeover in the #40-120 range over the next few months.

Azarenka won't retire from a match once :eek:.

Zvonareva won't smash a racket.

Jennifer Capriati will Finally come out of retirement... taking over 7 years to fully recover both mentally and physically from her injuries in 2004 and her drug overdose. At the age of 36, Capriati will make a stunning comeback during the summer hardcourt season, eventually culminating with her victory at the US open. She will beat Sharapova, Wozniacki, Clijsters, Stosur, and Serena en route to her lone US Open Victory.

Hey, a guy can dream, right?

Kim will win 2 slams next year... and will win the Silver at the olympics (barely falling to Serena). Due to the great results, Kim will decide to hold off having another kid and will play through the 2014 season.

Wozniacki will get injured, and will have a layoff long enough to throw her career into a tailspin.

Jankovic and Ivanovic will find their minds again... and each will make atleast the SFs of a slam next year... Jankovic will make a F.

Kvitova will win the FO then have a sudden drop in form... doing miserably for the remainder of the year.

Vaidisova will finally goto a sports counselor, who will encourage Nicole to return to tennis so that she can have closure with her Career. She will come back before W, and will make the SFs of the US open

Dokic will make a suprise run at the FO, making it to the QFs before falling to the eventual champion in 3 tight sets.

This is kinda fun, though none of that will come true :(

Nothing like "Maria will be #1" or "Serena will win a slam" or "Marion will eat cake."

Make a bold prediction and let's see at the end of the year if anyone is correct.

I'll start:

-Tsvetana Pironkova will reach the Wimbledon final.
-Petra Kvitova will go slam-less and fall out of the top 10.
-Nicole Vaidisova will end the year in the top 30.

Well, I'm going to round and say I was close enough on the Kvitova prediciton. :lol:

Mine:

- the ballbasher who goes on a rampage during the clay season this year will be Kanepi. But unlike Caravane or Julinha, she'll back it up with a strong showing at RG (SF or better);

- Petkorazzi to replace Zvonareva as the Tour's on-call bridesmaid;

- Slamless Wozniacka to keep hold of #1 throughout the whole season;

- Babyfat won't crack the top 10;

- and finally the bold one: an U-21 basher will hit a purple patch and win (not do well - WIN) a depleted USO.

Got nothing right, unsurprisingly. Babyfat not making the top 10 didn't qualify as a bold prediction even at the time, before her aimlessness and borderline retardation w/r/t career management became fully apparent.

In my defense, I could claim that Robson made that deep run at the USO by a youngster that I expected. 4R isn't the same as winning, granted, but the opposition Robson faced to get there was stronger than that of some recent Slam RUs or even winners. [/clutching at straws]

I suppose I got the Pavlyuchenkova prediction right. I would have gone as far as saying she would finish the year outside the top-30 but I think I wimped out.

Not sure what I was thinking with the last one. :spit: I think I was kinda expecting everyone to be exhausted after the Olympics and someone random might sneak through.

Australian Open
Sick of getting beaten by Federer, Nadal and Djokovic, Andy Murray has a sex change operation during the off-season and asks for a wild card into the women's singles but still loses in the semi-final. Petra Kvitova has a horror draw which puts her up against Clijsters in the 3rd round, Serena in the 4th, Li Na in the QF and Azarenka in the SF. She whups all of them in straight sets and then has an off day in the final and loses to Agnieszka Radwanska.

French Open
Jelena Jankovic is booed vociferously by the French crowd, apparently for wearing trainers that clash with her dress. Andrea Murray again loses in the semi-final. Keeping up the tradition of oldies winning their maiden slam here, Kimiko Date Krum beats Flavia Pennetta in the final to take the crown.

Wimbledon
After buying the All England Club, Ion Tiriac decrees that The Championships be played on blue grass. Told that there is no so such thing as blue grass, a defiant Tiriac hires Hank Blaylock's Kentucky Stompers to play during the changeovers on centre court. Andrea Murray loses another semi-final. Persistent rain means Petra Kvitova plays all her matches on an indoor grass court, rendering her invincible.

Olympics
IOC rule that live bluegrass music cannot be played at the changeover during the Olympics. Tiriac's head explodes and the tennis world breathes a sigh of relief. Kvitova wins her second Wimbledon in the space of a month. The Williams sisters and Clijsters all announce their retirements.

US Open
US Open finally agrees to increase umpire's pay, saying they can now afford to do so since they no longer have to employ bodyguards for the umpires following Serena's retirement. Kvitova loses in the 1st round, sparking yet more theories as to why she can't win on Northern hemisphere, outdoor, blue coloured, hard courts. Andrea Murray completes her grand slam of semi-final defeats. Wozniacki reaches her second grand slam final but is out-pushed by Christina McHale. America rejoices their new champion but the rest of the tennis world despairs.

WTA Championship
Newly crowned US Open champion McHale is blown away 6-0 6-0 in 27 minutes by Kvitova in her first match. Kvitova goes on to complete a second year without losing a match indoors.

Year end #1 ranking
Despite Kvitova winning Wimbledon, Olympics, YEC, Dubai, Miami, Madrid, Beijing, Paris, Stuttgart and being runner-up at the Australian Open, Wozniacki is still year end number 1.

Well you can't get them all right. :shrug:
