Her first tournament of the year will be Brisbane.

This is her part of the Q-draw.

Arantxa Rus NED [2] vs Arantxa Parra Santonja ESP
Mandy Minella LUX vs Ajla Tomljanovic CRO
Bojana Bobusic AUS [WC] vs Nina Bratchikova RUS
Anastasia Pivovarova RUS vs Eleni Daniilidou GRE [5]

Well I guess this is a good draw to start the season. Good luck Eleni :rocker:

Good draw :)
Pivovarova is tricky but I think Eleni can handle her ;)
GL Eleni! :bounce:

I hope that we will have many good times in this thread this year. I would love to see her end 2012 in the top 50, but I guess I should be happy that she is top 100 again . I hope that Eleni can win another tour singles title and play her 4th consecutive Olympics in 2012 :cheer:

Eleni :(
I really thought she would win after she won the second set :(
Disappointing, but I guess I shouldn't complain because I'd rather have her lose in qualifying of a Premier event than lose in qualifying of a 25K . So many ups and downs over the last few years, but at least she is back in the top 100 after being out of the top 300. It could be worse so I won't complain much :p

Doubles with Hercog will be hard. They drew (3) Hsieh/Voskoboeva

sorry Andrew, have not been online much lately but I see Dorien already opened the 2012 thread :D Let's hope it proves to be a good season for Eleni.I have to agree with Dorien that this result is only indication that it is the beginning of the season and in the end I see that Bratchikova has made it into the MD.

All the best in doubles to Eleni & Polona!!! :hearts:

I was at both matches. So sad at the Goerges match. I spoke to her after and she said she injured her neck in Sydney, but then it felt better, then the night before her second round, she slept on it badly and hurt it again. Of all the bad luck.

With how she was playing I think she would have beaten Goerges, then had Oprandi. She could have been through to the 4th round.

hellas719
Feb 1st, 2012, 04:45 AM
^Agreed. Such a shame:(

And they got destroyed in doubles, kinda expected though

Did you guys see what the Goerges fans were saying? I took a peek in their subforum and they were so rude, I was watching the stream and it was heartbreaking to see Eleni in pain. They kept calling Eleni a useless player, a bad player, they were making fun of her tennis when she was obviously injured, calling her a lesbian, saying that she took medical timeouts just to try and throw off Goerges. And then they said that Eleni retired because she knew she had no shot and that she just wanted to get a hug from Julia :o

I don't think they were joking and it's really inappropriate. Eleni was clearly in pain and she was crying. I felt so bad for her watching it. Also some idiots on a Greek sports forum kept saying that Eleni should just retire from tennis instead of embarrassing herself. Here is what I had to say for those of you interested:
http://www.greeksoccer.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=235049954&st=1740
Everything is on this page...

Now about Eleni, I'm very upset with her. She committed to Fed Cup this week but she is not coming now. I understand that she was injured but now she said she is 100%. It's really frustrating because she means everything to the team and Gerasimou and Georgatou both aren't playing so we really need Eleni. She has neglected her country and now we might face relegation. Sorry if it sounds harsh, but of we get relegated it is Eleni's fault. She made a commitment to our team so she needs to honor that commitment instead of just sitting at home in Thessaloniki. If she didn't commit in the first place or was injured it would be different, but she is really harming the team now. We were counting on her. She is our best player and she knows how important she is to the team. She has neglected the Fed Cup team many times in the past and I have forgiven her for that but now I'm very upset with her. I know many of you don't care about Fed Cup and many of you aren't Greek so it doesn't concern you guys, but it bothers me. I take Fed Cup very seriously and it irks me that Eleni took up someone else's spot on this team. If she initially said that she wouldn't play then we could easily call up Gerasimou since she said she still trains sometimes and she would be our best player after Papamichail. Now our chances to stay in Group 1 are in jeopardy. I just hope for a miracle that Eleni stops by in Israel on her way to Pattaya City just to play the tie against Bosnia so we can win :sobbing:

As I said I was at all her matches and spoke to her afterwards. The idiots in the crowd, even the Greeks were complaining about how she was playing against Julia and were whining about how much she was slicing. They were really annoying me, but who cares, they don't know shit.
They don't know how her style of play is different and thus disruptive to a lot of boring baseliners, they don't know about her struggles and they don't know how great a person she is. All you can to is block them out and wait for them to eat their words when she does something amazing.

Sorry for this yesterday, I was just upset with Eleni and how she didn't go to Fed Cup even though she committed to it and claims she is 100% fit. It's just frustrating because we could've won this group with Bosnia, a depleted Hungarian team, and Sweden. Okay, Sweden would've been tough but Eleni could beat Larsson and maybe we would've gotten lucky in doubles or something :p. As long as we don't get relegated I will be fine with Eleni:lol:

hellas719
Feb 5th, 2012, 05:15 AM
Sorry for making this get out of hand, but next time Eleni says how much she cares about Greece or how she loves Fed Cup I'm gonna punch her in the face. Okay, I won't punch her , but we got relegated and this all could've easily been prevented if Eleni just stopped in Israel on her way to Thailand to play against Bosnia since she was already on the squad and then we would've beaten them for sure and then she could continue on to Thailand and we would be fine...

Doubles with Tanasugarn. They are seeded second and it would be pathetic if they lost before SF with their draw ;)

And I read one source saying she is on bad terms with the Greek Federation and that is why she didn't play Fed Cup. I also heard that she wants to focus on the Olympics this year. And so far so good as she played no matches last week and lost early this week :yeah::lol:

62 36 62 in QF over Rogowska for a spot in the semis :woohoo:
First SF in a WTA event since Hobart 2008

But because of the stupid scheduling, Eleni had to play again against Hsieh in the SF even though the other SF wasn't played
They're playing the other SF now actually, they should've made JJ and Martic play first so Eleni could rest, but instead they made her play and she lost 06 64 16 . Apparently she was injured

Still, a great tournament and now the Olympics are very realistic :bigclap:

I'll excuse her for this since she was injured, but now she will be out of the top 100 and won't make e Olympic team. A shame really. As much as I want to get mad at the ITF for not giving her a wild card, she only has herself to blame. So many wasted draws this year

She's now lost 11 matches in a row dating back to Charleston :tape:

Anyways she's entered in doubles with Rus, but I doubt they will play because of Eleni's injury. And they have no shot anyways since they're playing Makarova/Vesnina in R1 :scared:

At least she's in the doubles QF here with Ula

I saw the third set of Eleni vs. Ula. I thought she played okay, but she missed a few easy overheads and made a few other silly mistakes like that. One thing that I noticed was that her ball toss was absolutely fucking horrendous :o. She always had a high toss, but now her toss is consistently going high and to the right, kind of like how Dementieva served for years. Eleni keeps chasing the balls when serving instead of relaxing and waiting until she gets it right . I've never seen Eleni's ball toss been as bad as it was in the third set of this match. And it is not good that she is consistently serving about 10 DFs per match, just like the good old days :sobbing:

Eleni :woohoo:. She played really well :yeah:. Dubois next ;)

My report:
I got there a little late so I missed the first few games. I also had to take a call so I only saw about half of the first set. It was competitive. In the beginning Mayr kept throwing her racket and Eleni complained about the rain so they stopped play and then there was a brief rain delay but then it cleared up so they resumed the match. There were actually several Greeks there so it was nice to see that I wasn't all on my own. Eleni's coach was very vocal and kept screaming in Greek to her and told her things like "Pame Lena!" and "Pame Elenaki!" and "Bravo Lena!", etc. I'm not sure if that is really considered coaching but the umpire did nothing. Sometimes he would tell Eleni to be strong and sometimes to be aggressive, so I guess it was coaching but as usual no umpire ever has the balls to say anythinng about it . Mayr was swearing a lot and in the first set she hit some nice shots. There were some nice rallies in this match but Eleni was just too strong in the second set. She was playing such beautiful tennis. She was being aggressive with her one-handed backhand instead of just slicing every ball and watching her hit a few backhand winners was absolutely beautiful. She also hit some nice drop shots and surprisingly hit 4 aces and didn't have many DFs either :p. Eleni's sponsor tag on her shirt was about to fall off and no one told her anything about it :spit:. And then towards the end a group of like 80 kids came to watch the match and it was so funny and random that they picked Eleni's match of all of them. It was also really ironic because when the kids came Mayr stopped having an attitude and became normal for once, maybe she wanted to set a good example for the children . Eleni hit a great shot on MP and I was surprised that Mayr gave a very nice handshake since she was bitchy for most of the match. Afterwards I wanted to talk to Eleni and I saw others talking to her (I think they were Greek) and then some kids wanted her autographs and then I was going to talk to her but I was so nervous :help:. So I just stuttered and said to her congratulations in Greek because I just couldn't breathe I'm so pathetic :rolls:. I even planned out what I was going to say and then my mind went totally blank . Eleni played very well though and it was the best I had seen her play in a long time. I'm proud of her and I hope she can keep it up.

Unfortunately I didn't get any pics and I won't go tomorrow most likely. I guess the only chance to see her again would be if I go during the MD on a day when she is playing if she qualifies...but I like her chances to qualify :)

Also Elisse will be there tomorrow so check her twitter account @elissetennis for live updates during the match :)
