Backhand smashes are generally rare anyway aren't they? They're quite a 'wow' shot I though.

To answer your question, any volleys.

I agree. The video in the OP doesn't even contain the best backhand smashes too yet it's still stunning to watch, which says a lot about that one shot.

the vids weren't really backhand smashes (though both great points).
Mauresmo used to hit ones that could be regarded as bh smashes, but i don't have a specific point in mind. she just had emmense upper body strength to hit it.

i also remember Farina-Elia used to cover her backhand part of the net very nicely with it and wouldn't be surprised if she had a few points documented somewhere on youtube.

The Serena one especially is really ordinary

The backhand smash is rare because one it takes huge upper body stength, but also if you see the lob coming unless it is amazing you can take a step back and drive volley it with 2 hands.

This was Emmanuelle's best tennis result on the WTA. I remember the day, I was hoping for 2 Swiss in the final.

Never mind, she's living it up in a very flash house in Florida (probably paid by the family fortune)

What do you think? The BH smash is very rare and I would speculate that you have to be pretty athletic to pull it off. But it is a thing of beauty.

Now that I think of wtf he (Ljubicic) did on that memorable serve. Opponent was like 10 feet back. He did everything like normal first serve. Then he just pushed it :) Opponent, sorry can´t remember who, took a step and forfeited, realizing he is not gonna make it :) Ridicilous point. All props to Ljubicic for realizing the oppurtunity :bounce: Womens, doupt anyone is capable of that :D
