37 players with titles this year! :D

What's odd about this statistic?
- Venus Williams: no Tier I titles this year
- Anna Smashnova: got herself a top 16 position partly because of some smaller titles.
- Martina Hingis: she actually won titles this year, she'll be back next year.
- Monica Seles: only a few small titles this year.
- Jelena Dokic: same as Monica
- Elena Bovina & Svetlana Kuznetsova: each 2 titles, watch out for next year, I guess.
- Jennifer Capriati: only Australian Open, nothing else.
- 4 players with 1 title this year (Tier I): Hantuchova, Majoli, Schnyder, Maleeva. Also close in the rankings (except Iva).
- Angeles Montolio: fallen out of top 100.

Players with no titles on top of rankings?
- Lindsay Davenport: well, we know why this is...
- Alexandra Stevenson: is getting better each tournament, she'll win one in 2003.
- Elena Dementieva: has been consistent, but no titles.
- Nathalie Dechy: slowly got in top 20. Consistent results, but not really a force to be reckoned with.

Players in top 20 in 2001, but not in 2002?
- Amanda Coetzer: she won't be around for that long anymore, so it's understandable. She's getting older too.
- Meghann Shaughnessy: Now this girl can start worrying. she'll be lucky if she ever gets back there.

Cool :)
For some reason I thought Venus had more titles than Serena

I know that Monica won those two titles without beating top 20 players but I am surprised that in the whole year she didn't pick up anything higher than a Tier III... is this the first time in her career this has happened? Surely someone knows.
