So like a lot of other people on this forum, I was wasting my time watching matches on the Australian Open Vault. :sobbing: So when I watched the 2002 final between Capriati and Hingis again, it just suddenly struck me that I never would have thought that would be their respective last Grand Slam singles final that they would have played. Capriati's form was not as good as 2001, but she was definitely one of the best players around then, and I thought she would have reached at least another GS singles final. Martina was on the decline, but I thought she would have snuck in another final, and I was quite shocked when she announced her retirement the same year.

So what are some of your "I never would have thought" tennis moments?

I always thought Li Na would win a slam. And back at Roland Garros in 09 when the semis were set I had a weird feeling that Schiavone would somehow win it all.

I never thought Stosur would do it though.

Li Na with a French. Thought she had potential for the others, but always thought a good defender would spoil her on the clay.

That the pusher who lost to Dokic at AO '09 would go on to be #1 :tears:.

I never would have thought Kvitova wins Wim.
I never would have thought Woz won't win a slam in 2011.
I never would have thought Aza won't win a slam in 2011.
I never would have thought I'll join this forum. And liked it.

I never thought that when Wozniacki came out with those black ankle braces, that long blonde hair and that puff forehand, that she would soon be number 1 in the world. :speakles:

I never would have thought the 1996 AO would have been Monica's last slam, the 1999 AO would have been Martina's last slam, the 2000 AO would have been Lindsay's last slam, that the 2008 AO would have been Maria's last slam *so far* or even 2008. Notice the AO theme of being a few peoples last slam win even though they were playing well enough to win more and should have.

winning only 2 titles in 2 years also, 2005 AO and her next was the 2007 AO  if you're only going to win 2 titles in 2 years them being 2 slams works and is better than winning 12 titles in 2 years but none of them being slams ;)

I never thought Davenport would never win a slam anymore after AO '00, although finishing the year three times as #1 after this.

I would have never thought the reason for probably a lot of Venus heartbreaking three set losses over the last couple of years would have been because of a autoimmune disease called Sjorgens... Always thought she is just a bit lazy when it comes to fitness-practice...

This is probably the best of the lot. It seems difficult to believe even now.

Had you told me at the end of 2007 that Henin wouldn't win another major and Golovin another tournament I'd have laughed at you and perhaps even called you an impolite name or two.

Also, I'd never have believed in June 2008 that Ivanovic wouldn't make another slam QF. Now I'm not sure I'd believe you if you told me she will!
