As you all know better than me, is there any chance/predictions that someone may withdraw giving Aleks Wozniak a chance at the main draw? any ideas? Thanks.

Papillon.
Dec 8th, 2011, 03:17 AM
Absolutely. One withdrawal at this point puts Wozniak straight into the main draw with no chance of getting bumped out unless she herself withdraws.

Dec 8th, 2011, 03:57 AM
Sorry I meant who can you realistically see withdrawing?

How bad is Krajicek's injury? And LDL hasn't played since mid-August.

Strongly doubt it. I think everyone is put on the main draw entry list by default but it doesn't matter since she had no intention of playing anyway, so her name would've been struck out as soon as she'd notified the organisers of it.

They have not given out all wildcards yet...

Reciprocal wildcards will also be granted to a male and female French player and top Asian player.

Wildcards already allocated are as follows:

Australian Open Play-off: Marinko Matosevic and Ashleigh Barty

US wildcards: Jesse Levine and Madison Keys

Discretionary: Lleyton Hewitt, Matthew Ebden and Casey Dellacqua

Not neccesarily. Monica Seles was thinking about coming back in 2007 after hingis and asked the aussie open guys if they would give her a wildcard if she came back. They said no

Unless Keys doesnt take the us one and she gets that, she will not be getting one for the main draw of the aussie open.

US, French, Asian, Playoff - Barty, Dellacqua, Rogowska + 2 Other Aussies

TA never give a discretionary WC to a foreigner unless it's an extreme case, so I don't know why you expect anyone to believe you when you can't even credit a source.

Papillon.
Dec 20th, 2011, 05:45 PM
Unless Keys declined the WC, in which case they'd have to give her a QWC instead for her to play the tournament due to her ranking not even being high enough to participate in qualifying in the first place. I guess that could free up the US MDWC as discretionary, but it would mean since Khromacheva received a QWC already that only six Aussie girls would receive QWCs, and it would also fuck Gail Brodsky over.

Correct. Given the official non-entries just listed by Meelis and the four officially announced wildcards (leaving Amanmuradova and de facto WC Rodionova on the qualifying list), the qualifying list is missing:

#119 Chan Yung-Jan
#123 Edina Gallovits-Hall
#129 Vitalia Diatchenko
#130 Nuria Llagostera Vives
#131 Dinara Safina
#133 Casey Dellacqua
#150 Camila Giorgi
#167 Olivia Rogowska
#178 Sandra Zahlavova
#179 Florencia Molinero
#183 Renata Voracova
#187 Zuzana Kucova
#200 Ani Mijacika

This puts Glushko at spot 86, rather than spot 88, meaning Hendler is at spot 87 and thus is in (K. Kucova at spot 88).

The current list of alternates who will definitely get in:

#209 Leticia Costas-Moreira (on account of Amanmuradova's WC)
#210 Nastassya Burnett (on account of Rodionova's WC or MD place)
#211 Zhang Ling (on account of the French WC, which will undoubtedly go to a girl currently in the qualifying list)

Should Holland receive a wildcard, #212 Cagla Buyukakcay will move into Q list, too.

The first alternates with an uncertainty of participation:

#212 Cagla Buyukakcay
#213 Lu Jing-Jing
#214 Monica Puig
#215 Irena Pavlovic
#216 Julia Boserup

Grand Slam qualifying lists are out four weeks prior to the event rather than three, presumably because of the early start (typically Tuesday or Wednesday) of the qualifying event.

No one knows why Chan isn't on the list; people are speculating that Amanmuradova declined the Asian WC and that Chan received it. I presume Z. Kucova is injured because I don't think she's played in a long time. K. Kucova just scraped into qualifying on the initial list. Molinero may be injured (unless I recall seeing her name on a couple of recent ITFs) or just may not want to travel to Australia on the back of her poor form. Zahlavova is opting to play ITFs too despite her Sydney/AO points. If Kremer is on the alternates list she is 32nd out. Cepede Royg probably doesn't want to travel, and I think Voracova and Gallovits-Hall are injured.

Cepede and Molinero ended their year just days ago. They will be on a full january pre-season. Thats why theyre not playing.
Gallovits, if Im not mistaken, is on the US 25K.

Molinero may be injured (unless I recall seeing her name on a couple of recent ITFs) or just may not want to travel to Australia on the back of her poor form .

Besides that QR1 loss in Australia, she did won three matches in Auckland. Not to mention her strong run at 25K.

But Doi should have received the wild card if Amanmuradova didn't. Tennis Australia has some explaining to do, or it looks very corrupt to me, as it looks like they have totally bent the rules to favour China. I would have thought that Koehler is about 90% sure of securing a place in qualifying, should she wish to take it up, as it would appear highly likely that one of the last two Aussie wild cards will go to Isabella Holland, entered currently in Q, especially as Anastassia Rodionova has now secured direct entry without needing one. On the other hand, it would be hideous to fly to Australia and then miss out by one place, should the Aussies decide on two other players instead.

But she hasn't travell to Australia yet.

OK, if she hasn't travelled yet she better not make the effort. It's Sunday already in Australia and she's still sitting in the other side of the world? What kind of preparation is that? :tape:

Jose.
Jan 7th, 2012, 08:46 PM
I always thought that even if Koehler would get in she would probably not go, because travelling to Australia is too expensive and specially for one tournament only and also let's be honest she will play her 1st time there and 1st time this year so I am not expecting much from her... I think it would be a better choice for her to play the 25ks in France, sure she will have more opportunities to go to Australia.

i'm not going into any details here... but "the father itself wouldnt pay 5000 koehler to go to australia, that's absurd" go to jetcost and u can get a flight for 1800 to australia the day after Oporto-Sydeny-Oporto (one week)... and she already has some previleges under the portuguese tennis federation...

Try to book o flght for the next day from Portugal to Australia and you'll see the price....hotel, food , etc, for one week at least,
Cost of traveling is one aspect and tournament planning (including preparation tournaments and traveling time) is another one. And a third aspect is condition of jet lag (time shift Lisbon/Melbourne: 11h).

As 19 years old Maria Joo Koehler (# 223) entered 25K Andrezieux-Boutheon (http://www.itftennis.com/womens/tournaments/tournamentacceptancelist.asp?tournament=1100026007&event=&order=Position) it looks like that she will also play 25K Grenoble the week after.

I dont know why she didnt withdraw from AO qualy earlier and her father talked about coast of traveling. There are indeed easily to find opportunities to book flights on short notice for ~ 1.200 round trip in coach. The one outbound I found is on Air China with two connecting flights and a 43h 5 traveling time from first airport to last airport. I second spiceboys opinion not to fly from Portugal to Melbourne on Saturday and (hopefully) play Q1 on Wednesday.

juki
Jan 8th, 2012, 05:31 AM
If Koehler doesn't make the trip, the next two alternates are Ashley Wienhold and Misa Eguchi, and both are already in Australia according to their twitters.

After those two, the next three are Krunic, Wongteanchai, and Beck. Anyone know if they have made the trip? I would assume Wongteanchai for sure but how about Aleks and Annika? It will definitely be dicey for them to get in.
