Champ'ships before a Slam? Stats buffs needed.

I was just curious . How many players have won the year-end Championship without getting a Slam title first?

Anyone?

Jana won in '97 over Pierce...won Wimbledon the next year :D

Okay, I did a little digging. They started the current format in 1983, Hanika won in '82 when it was still Round Robin format. and did lose 1 match along the way - (still a nice win for her) but not really the same type of tourney.

Gaby won '88 and went on to win the US Open in '90
And Hurley gave the Jana stat.

I think Kim's got a chance to get more than 1 Slam in her career, if she does, this weird little record will end up being hers. ;)

Also, Chris Evert won it in 1972. Every one of those mentioned except Hanika won her first slam within 2 years.
