Just arrived in beautiful Bali :) Had a long trip & slept a lot on the plane...hopefully I can still fall asleep quickly now :)

She's arrived in one piece anyway! Not sure how match ready she'll be given her recent troubles, but hope she enjoys herself out there! :D

At Jengala, Uluwatu, @sabinelisicki shows off her artistic side, she will also paint it on her own.

@TennisCommbank (http://twitter.com/#!/TennisCommbank):
One of @sabinelisicki's hobbies is painting, inherited from her mom, a well-known artist in Germany.

When she was in Bali two years ago Sabine enjoyed a visit to Jenggala, a company that produces ceramics and conducts classes where people can learn to make and paint pots and various other items. While she was there she produced a plate that was later sold by auction for $1000. The money went towards the tournament’s charity, the Smile Foundation, that finances surgery for children born with facial defects.

The German was looking forward to making a return visit and, like before, she was joined by her mother Elizabeth, who is in fact a ceramics artist. After moulding two pots, Sabine picked up the paintbrush and decorated a dish, while her mother sat beside her painting a horse.

"I don’t really get a chance to do it because we are never home," said Sabine, "but I really enjoy painting because it is so relaxing and a way to get away from the tennis for a while. After the season is over this week I will definitely spend some time painting."

Sabs' mom painted a horse? Did it mind being painted?

I'd LOVE to see how that pot Sabine was making turned out - & indeed some of her artistic handiwork one day!

Part of the Jakarta Globe report:

“Two years ago I made a plate. I don’t know what I will make this time,” Lisicki said, laughing.

After 20 minutes, Lisicki had created a vase. And something that resembled a bowl.

She then picked up paintbrush and decorated a dish, while her mother painted a horse.

Well off court she seems to be back to her old self. Only potentially 3 matches this time, but we'll see whether she is up to playing a competitive match after her recent troubles. Dani will make it tough for Sabs - will we see the Sabs of Birmingham, where she beat Dani in the F? Or the Sabs of Cincy, where she was dumped out in R1?

The Sabs of Birmingham of course

Dani is too exhausted after beach-tennis

"Daniela Hantuchova
On Lisicki...
"Of course I'm going to go into the match hoping I'm gonna win, that's how I approach every single match. She's got a huge game - last time we played it was Birmingham, in the finals, and she killed me. But I feel I've been hitting the ball pretty well here. I think the court suits her game more than mine, but I'm going to try to be aggressive myself from the first point and we'll see."

Bine: Please, kill her one more time :woohoo:

I'm looking forward to this match totally excited:bounce: missed her tennis playing sooo much, she's simply the Best:hearts:

I'm not gonna beat her up if Dani wins. If that food poisoning was as bad as it sounded, she might not be 100% even now - at least to play a competitive match of tennis. And it's the end of the season anyway. Enjoy Bali for what it is...a holiday with a game of tennis (or two - or three hopefully!) tacked on!

Exactly! She should enjoy it. She can play freely and without pressure. If she'll lose, nobody will say something bad. Good luck Sabine. :bounce:

Good fight in 1st set from 03 down to 75, she also was able to save BPs against her in almost every service game, really great to see that she was able to make the big points there, although she hasn´t really played much lately!
2nd set should have been 50 but whatever, even came back from 0-40 in last service game, all fine!

Her game is still up and down obviously, but that was clear, she rarely played since NY, weird shot selection here and there and still problems with her serve but that will get better again with more matches, that´s why it was that important to win at least one match here before the off season starts!

Interesting match against AMG now, Daniela gave her lots of errors as well, that helped her, tomorrow it will be totally different, we´ll see what happens, hopefully Sabine will be fit and consistent enough to win, she obviously has a great chance to reach the final! :)

Müsste jetzt so aussehen

14.Jankovic 3115
15.Lisicki 2879
16.Pavlyuchenkova 2865
17.Cibulkova 2755
18.Peng 2750

you put my thoughts in words:worship:

her smiles yesterday were even brighter than before, if it took a load of her mind moving on from all the bad experiences last weeks.

Our sunshine is back:angel:

Hope she can go through today cause I'm not able to watch her game eg. medina (work is calling) and that she finally will play tomorrow again;)

So 36 64 04ret. She had better not think of playing again with lower back problems. I didn't see all of the match unfortunately (or perhaps fortunately!) By all accounts AMG was rather bitchy; I think she thought Sabs was laying on the injury a bit. Not how I see it - Sabs tried her best to play through the injury, but lower back is only going to get worse. I know this from personal experience (albeit football not tennis!)

Is that the first time Sabs has actually retired mid match?

It's been a strange bittersweet season!

Bittersweet especially after another sad match like this, but to think where she was in March, to where she is now, she is still comeback player of the year :)

CillyUltra
Nov 5th, 2011, 01:29 PM
Yes, her back issue could well have been a lack of recent matchplay. But I would question the wisdom of playing a 3rd place playoff if she is suffering from lower back problems. I suffer on & off from that from time to time, & it can restrict movement, especially playing sport.

I think it could be caused by her current level of fitness. I agree with you that it should be a major purpose just to play some matches and have fun on court, with results being only secondary. And actually, the interview she gave "Bild" bothered me more than her matches. But she's ALWAYS ambitious on court and everybody who has seen her match against Zvonareva in Paris knows how she struggles with retiring. Anyway, I guess she had some pretty relaxing days on Bali and maybe she stays a little bit longer on that beautiful piece of earth.

Will be interesting to see whether her back problems started during the match, or when she woke up on the morning of this match. Could the catalyst have been that 203kph serve yesterday? Maybe not immediately, but that it (the effort of serving as powerfully as that) caused a gradual deterioration of her back? It appears she was struggling from the off vs. AMG. We'll see what she says in pressers, Twitter or Facebook. At the very least, she'll blog something on the WTA site.

That's four tournaments on the spin that illness/injury issues have afflicted our girl. Hopefully the end of the season will see her fully recharged for 2012.

A strange old season - 3 titles, Wimbledon fairytale, a good US series...but then illness/injury from China.I wish Sabs could steer clear of injury/illness issues - but maybe that's the way it's going to be for her. Maybe she's more prone to such issues than other players. In which case, to rise this year to finish up 15 in the world from 218 not so long ago is one hell of an effort!! Not in her wildest dreams could Sabine have predicted ending up at No.15.

Ah well......enjoy the party Sabine - believe it's tonight. But stay off the dancefloor! (Actually given the time difference I would imagine the party has taken place...unless Sabs is making it a late night in the fleshpots of Bali!! )

Poor Dani! I'll bet she was thinking of the beach & not having to play tennis again this season!

Still, a sad but necessary decision by Sabs. The end of the season, why risk further damage to your back? Hopefully the off season will see her fully recharged.

She's due to play a couple of exhibitions in Dec - Bahamas & China (the latter Li Na Homecoming). Apart from that, stay away from tennis & rest up - at least for a little while!

Is she spending a few days R&R in Bali? Then presumably back to Germany for off season? Any of the other players also spending a few extra days in Bali or have they all left now?
