Safarova in R1 is always tough, you never know what to expect, she can always have a great day. But she also has very bad days

Petko's Race to YEC:

8. Bartoli 4315 +435

9. Radwanska 3940 +60

10. Petkovic 3880

11. Schiavone 3820

Big, last chance to gain ground in the YEC race. If she can beat Bartoli in the 3rd round and make the semi thereafter, she can reduce Bartoli's margin by 310 pts and keep Schiavone and Radwanska in check. But of course it all depends on her condition. Her father told she isn't yet completely fit, has still pains, couldn't practice fully.

YEC seems to be far away now for me, and with Radwanska in good shape we should focus on a top10 Year End ranking.
And this would be a great achievement for her.

i agree with Carsten about the Beijing Draw, Safarova can be very dangerous, but hopefully she has a bad day once again.

Andrea has lost some of her mental stamina she had this season and she has to deal with a joke schedule (only 15 1/2 h between her matches)...

But nevertheless a big chance now for her first PM final and to gain at least the ninth place in the race (and hoping for a YEC retirement or to play as a surrogate then). And the points are important too, as she has to defend 700 pts right at the start of next season.

Really well done, Andrea !!!
She is improving steadily and has some very worthy attitudes to be sucessful in women`s tennis.
Andrea has no really extraordinary strengths in her game. But she plays tennis consistently on a high level, recovers very well and at the right time, when she has little periods of weakness in her game to stay in control, as seen in her match against Pawlju yesterday.
And she can read the different style of play of her opponents, and overcome an uncomfortable opponent like Niculescu pretty easy, as seen today.
Aga is one of the smartest player on the tour, and in a fantastic shape. It will be a very difficult task for Andrea, anyway very interesting to watch.

I'd say her extraordinary strength is her whole baseline game, forehand and backhand combined with a good, solid movement. She hits hard off both sides and doesn't have that major weapon where she hits one winner after another, but she's still playing agressive (on a good day ) and also doesn't have a big weakness. And I think in tennis that is more important than maybe having 1-2 major weapens but also having 1-2 big weaknesses. So it's hard for the opponent to outhit her.
But something she has to work on is to consistently play more agressive, more consequent. She still has many of those matches where she's relying too much on her fitness and fighting abilities which means: very long matches. Also her serve can be improved. It's not a weakness and can be strong at times, but it could definitely get better.

This is a very good analyze of her game, there is not much to add.
I agree on the points that you mention, where she still can improve.
She still sometimes has the attitude to be too passive during the rallies at times.
After the match against Pervak at Wimbledon, which she actually lost, because she was too passive and uninspired, Andrea was deeply disappointed.
But she has sucessfully begun to work on it, as we see.
Her serve will probably be the hardest thing to work on.
It has a pretty rapid speed and it`s effective, when the ball is well placed.
But her motion at serve does hardly allow to put much spin on the ball. Therefore she has difficulties to variate, especially on the second serve.
As a smart person with the ability to have deeper insights, and to learn, she might surprise us in this point, too, We`ll see.

Andrea fantastic tennis

"I'm very, very happy Andrea and I could play such an amazing match. Both of us played unbelievable," Radwanska said. "The first set was very tight, game by game. Then she killed me in the second set - I had chances, I was up 30-0 a few times, but it went by so quickly. It was hard to come back but I did, and in the end it was just a couple of points. I think it was the best final I've played.

"Me and Agnieszka always have long matches. Even when it's two sets we always play very long rallies and always play good matches," Petkovic said. "In two or three days, when the disappointment settles a little bit, I'll be able to look back at this as a really great match and great entertainment for the people.

yeah, it was a high-quality match :worship:
