How refreshing to get a sensible answer to the "Is the season too long?" question.
It seems to me that players suffer from 'burn-out' primarily from greed. Admittedly, some of them are or have been exploited,(Dokic), but they are not forced to enter 30 tournaments per year.

I agree Nimi. Anna, please don't change your name.:sad::sad:

Anna Smashnova is of course a unique name, but Anna Pistolesi also doesn't sound bad at all IMO

"Smashnova" is a great name for tennis. It would be a shame to lose it. She even became the unofficial "mascot" for ESPN2's old "SportSmash" because of it.

And I agree about the player scheduling. One article recently pointed out that many of the players complaining about the length of the season, and how tired they are, are scheduled for exhibitions in the offseason.

Anna Pistolesi sounds good, it sounds like Anna "shooting winners as fast as with a gun" :p

Anna Pistolesi-Smashnova!

By the way does anyone remember at Wimbledon when she "smashed" a ball at one of her opponent's supporters, but missed and hit someone else?

Pistolesi's a good name for Pete. I hope Anna decides to stick with Smashnova for her professional career.

Nov 10th, 2002, 11:54 AM

Nov 10th, 2002, 12:36 PM

Anna please don't change your name.

Nov 10th, 2002, 02:06 PM
That is so nice.. though it would be a career and marketing disaster is she changed her last name.

Nov 10th, 2002, 03:07 PM
Smashnova is just so classic a name for tennis. I do like Turt's example though and hope if she does take Claudio's name, she hyphenates it with Smashnova.

Brian, that is cute. I didn't know she was ESPN2's unofficial mascot for SportsSmash. :D

I'm just happy that she is getting married. :)
