I went to Toray PPO on 9/23, 24 and 25 and I will post some comments.
Sorry if there are mistakes, English is not my language.
And sorry, I can't go on weekdays, and perhaps won't go to the final (depends on who advance to it).

2011/9/23: Q1R: Mandy Minella def Riza Ozaki 62 76(4)
Mostly Mandy overpowered Riza with strong groundstrokes and serves and she led 6-2 5*-2 30-15.
But Riza suddenly responded strongly. Her all groundstrokes became stronger and went deep, which kept Mandy far behind from baseline. Riza won next 4 games and got early lead 3-0 in 2nd set tiebreak. But finally Mandy woke up again, won 6 points streak after that.

2011/9/23: Q1R: Karolina Pliskova def Shuko Aoyama 62 62
Karolina started with some up and down, she won first 10 points of this match but lost the 3rd and 4th game. But Karolina overpowered Shuko (espcecially with her serve) in the latter half of the set.
Both players held in first 4 games of the 2nd set. Shuko had 2 BPs in the 5th game. But after Karolina saved them, she overpowered her opponent as well as in the 1st set. She won next 4 games and closed the match.

2011/9/23: Q1R: Urszula Radwanska def Riko Sawayanagi 64 64
(I saw only first 7 games)
Urszla didn't seem so bad, and Riko hit many strong winners and effective dropshots. I thought the rank 731 didn't reflect her potential. But in many games Riko failed to close and gave Urszla early lead.

2011/9/24: QFR: Karolina Pliskova def Kumiko Iijima 62 61
I expected a closer match, but Karolina's power was too much for Iijima.
Especially Kumiko had not an answer to Karolina's serve. Karolina didn't give even a break point.
Karolina was so lucky that she got 2 walking byes and qualified.
Japanese players in this qualification

2011/9/24: QFR: Coco Vandeweghe def Abigail Spears 46 64 63
I saw the 1st set and from the 4th game to the end of the final set.
Coco seemed to start a little slowly, and had ups and downs in this match. But finally she showed her "big babe tennis". She hit many strong serves and grondstrokes, and destroyed her opponent.

2011/9/24: QFR: Urszula Radwanska def Rika Fujiwara 46 62 61
Rika hit solid groundstrokes and showed beautiful volleys in the 1st set. But she couldn't continue it. In the latter half of the 2nd set and final set, she committed UE after UE in her groundstrokes.
Urszula might be tired and not at her best, but she could keep her level, hit some strong winners and succeeded to qualify.

2011/9/25: 1R: Irina-Camelia Begu def Karolina Pliskova [Q] 16 63 64
In the 1st set, Irina made many errors in groundstrokes and had no answer to Karolina's serve. Karolina didn't give a break point till the 7th game of the 2nd set. And Karolina made few errors in groundstrokes.
But Irina showed more powerful game and cut down errors in the 2nd and 3rd set. And good serves saved her in important points many times. Both in the 2nd and 3rd set, Irina faced BPs earlier, but she saved all of them with big serves.

2011/9/25: 1R: Shahar Peer [16] def. Krystina Pliskova [WC] 46 75 61
# this is the same one as that I posted GM thread

I don't think Krystina choked but Shahar did great comeback. Shahar raised her level drastically in latter half of this match.
In former half of this match, Shahar was bad. She committed many unforced errors and her return was not effective.
Krystina showed some big serve and strong shots (especially forehand).
But the turning point was in the 6th game of 2nd set.
Shahar's return became good and she had no less than 8 BPs in the game, Kristyna saved 7 times, but finally Shahar broke.
After this game, Shahar's strokes suddenly caught the lines and almost all returns turned strong and went deep.
In the 10th game of 2nd set, Krystina saved 3 BPs from 0*-40 and had 1 MP, but she can't close it.
In the 3rd set, there was another long game (4th game), went 6 deuces and Shahar succeeded to convert her 5th BP in this game.
After that, Krystina seemed to be out of gas and lost her concentration.

2011/9/25: 1R: Kaia Kanepi def Flavia Pennetta 36 64 64
In the 1st set (especially latter half), Flavia controlled rallies and Kaia made more errors. Flavia won the last 4 games of the set.
But in the 2nd set, Kaia's groundstrokes became more powerful and Flavia gradually had troubles to handle them. After both player saved BP, Kaia finally broke Flavia's service in the 9th game, for the first time in this match, and hold the next game to win the set.
Kaia's strong offence continued in the 3rd set. Flavia saved 2 BP and hold in the 1st game but she couldn't save in the 3rd and 5th game. Flavia broke Kaia's service in the 4th game, but after that Kaia continued to hold easily her serve and win this match.

Kaia does fairly well at Tokyo, on the other hand, Flavia doesn't seem very good here despite using same surface as US Open.
