Was looking at the odds and Venus is 60/1 - her draw is pretty good in all honesty and if you look at who she's lost to at the Open in recent years I think she's worth a punt!

I don't know about that. Venus showed her vulnerabilities in not being match tough at Wimbledon. She hasn't played since and now she could face Lisicki who has played four times in the US Open series events and could win Texas this week. Venus certainly doesn't have the intimidation factor any longer. In that same quarter are also a hot Sam Stosur, Marion Bartoli and don't discount Nadia Petrova. The odds I think are accurate.

Good luck to:

I saw a line in the WTA website that floored me a bit. It said Bethanie Mattek Sands was "unlucky" not to get a seed. Hello..... she hasn't played since Wimbledon when she was ranked #31. I haven't read anything about any injury(?).

Meanwhile Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez has played four tournaments since, including having to qualify twice, and played her way into the #32 seed.

I don't think those odds are acurate at all 60/1 - that's crazy for someone who can play great on that surface and one which really suits her game. She's won me a hell of a lot of money over the years and with Serena at 7/5 there's no point in betting on her so why not throw a few quid down and roll the dice. I don't expect her to win but then again I don't expect anyone to win if her name isn't Serena Williams and who's beaten Serena more times than any other player - Venus!

I'd love for Sam to do good, but I can't see her getting past Bartoli. Hoping for a Venus & Serena final though.

for Brits I see Baltacha beating Hampton, Keothavong against Scheepers is even stevens, Watson no chance against Sharapova.

I checked three websites and the odds on her are varied. One has her at 20-1, one at 22-1 and the other at 70-1!

We will probably agree to disagree. I don't see her winning when she's been off so long. Serena has shown the ability to do this, but not Venus, especially in recent years. There are better bets out there, especially at low 20 odds.

Has Ula ever actually qualified and not get drawn with Agnieszka(if Aga is drawn a qualifier)? I don't think so, it's the 3rd time it happens out of 3.

Lucic draws Erakovic. :help:

Help is the word. Lucic has lost I think 7 tour matches in a row and Erakovic is an up and comer.

Noooooo! Ula vs. Aga is the worst possible match up! :(

For the sisters its bad, but its great drama.

I saw the order of play for tomorrow. I don't understand wny Jill Craybas and Madison Keys are on the grandstand. Is the USTA that desparate to put Americans on the show courts? Why not have the Radwanska sisters in that space instead of Court 11 ?? Even Melanie Oudin would be a more deserving player.

Papillon.
Aug 29th, 2011, 05:48 AM
She's less of an up-and-comer and more having a nice resurgence after her fall from the Top 50 all the way back in 2008. Big win over Azarenka in Stanford and she's high on confidence again.
