Now we know why Maria has more definition on her legs and backside.

Do you think Ana will be joining this campaign? Me think not

And where is Stosur? I think she should be here

Interesting that for Serena, they also included her intimidating look and stare

What's the point of this campaign, is it, to get more people watching WTA tennis?

Tell young girls you don't have to be skinny (pre-anorexic) to be beautiful.

I think more and more, 8-12 years old think they have to be thin to be considered beautiful.
This would also encourage those who want to avoid sporting activities for fear of gaining muscle to change their mind

But many young girls think this today, that's not really tennis related issue for me. Why, which WTA stars are(pre-anorexic)?

So you're take on it is, it's to encourage more young women to participate in sport but, not necessarily tennis?

Personally; I think it's a total waste of time if they're trying to get more people to participate/sponsor/attend tennis.

It's pathetic if WTA think that this will help get more fans on board. If they want to make more money they need a bigger audience, they will not get it with this stupid slogan. Why is the revenue and tv viewings so low compared to ATP ? Well how many average men do you see in the stands at these womens matches which do not feature Ana,Caro,Maria... Now look at the mens matches where there are as many women watching as there are men. The campaign is funny - strong is beautiful - theres ten or so pics and the only beautiful ones are Caro,Azarenka and a few others and they are the 3 least strong,, no manly muscles, the rest you could photo shop the faces to make them look like a young arnie ! They are scaring potential new fans away rather than getting them in !

You're missing my point (and theirs) a little bit.

The fact that top stars in tennis are NOT super thin and are still thought as beautiful is the point they want to get across.

I don't necessarily think the campaign goal is to recruit tennis players, but to promote healthy young women with positive image of athletic looks.
If the byproduct of the campaign is that more young girls gravitate to tennis because tennis stars tend to be identified more with glamor (and strength), then that is even better.

Yep. I agree with a lot of what you state. I don't know how much this advertsing campaign cost and I haven't seen anything of it, bar online. If it's someone's bright idea of marketing tennis to a wider audience , then they've failed miserably.

You may think this, the WTA stragestists may think this but, Joe Public doesn't.

The only thing that 'gravitates' young people to tennis is, the thought of being mega rich.

But hey! You're probably right and I'm wrong.

Funny, it's many of these same "athletes" who pose as such, with their knickers around their ankles, sucking lollipops in FHM, Nuts, Loaded, and so on.

The jury is still out whether either one of us will be proven right.

I am just more optimistic (and naive) about it, whereas you are more pessimistic (and cynical).
But for the sake of us both, I'd like to be right. and I am sure you'll agree with me on that:lol::)

No idea. As soon as the ads come on, I start channel surfing. Mind you, most of all the ther channels are synch'd with the one I'm watching, which means the adverts come on most of all the channels at the same time. You know something? I've yet to watch a full episode of CSI Miami.

Dewey Nicks: Strong is Beautiful
The Photographer Serves Up a Slice of the Biggest Names in Women’s Tennis

Santa Barbara-based photographer and filmmaker Dewey Nicks today presents the culmination of his year-long project for the Women’s Tennis Association’s Strong is Beautiful campaign, a dazzling short featuring a split-screen rally between the likes of Serena Williams, Li Na and current world number one Caroline Wozniacki. In all, 32 of the biggest names in the women’s game were documented in Nicks’s dramatic smoke-hued film. “It takes so many elements to reach the top of such a competitive sport as tennis––strength of character, incredible discipline and will power," says Wozniacki. "For me, Strong is Beautiful was able to capture the inner strength of players in a beautiful way.” Shot with a 600-frames-per-second Phantom EFX camera, in temperatures over 100ºF, the stars were captured fresh from battle in between rounds at tournaments across the US. Seeking to champion each player’s unique strengths, Nicks highlighted their signature strokes in slow motion. “There are things your eye doesn’t perceive,” he explains. “Once you slow it down you realize how extraordinary the shift of weight or position of the racket is.” Proclaiming it to be the best project he has ever worked on, the enthusiastic Nicks held nothing back, even taking a ball to the neck in the effort to get the perfect shot.
