First set was lots of fun.
Good play from JJ.

Good final in Cincinnati.

Bad start, lots of errors in the beginning, but toned it down.

Huge hats off the Andrea for going out there and trying the best she could. Hopefully she'll be okay for the US Open. :awww:

Jankovicīs volleys were stunning.

Honorable mention to Petkovicīs net cord at *5-6 GP - there was some magic in this one.

Nice match. Very entertaining first set.
At the beginning many errors and no winners from Jelena, probably a bit rusty...but then she played well...
BH DTL existed today! BH overall was greet today, IMO the best since last year RG.
And net play was pretty good...she made some nice volleys:eek:

horrible start, no rythm, a dozen of ues in the first 3 games and Petko was playing well. Then the Empress fought back in 2008 style (crucial 10mn game to break and comeback in the set) and started to progressively raise her game. She moved extremely well, changed the pace a lot and smartly used her cc fh more than usual. She charged the net when she had chances (some great volleys )and is FINALLY not afraid to hit her bh dtl like in the good old days.
Still some work to do but it's really good to see her at this level.

For big names comebacks is almost always like this - not step by step, but some big noise overnight, like this Premier-5 final for Jankovic which after last season Wimbledon only in Dubai early this year beat some TOP30 opponent... but now she is back just like that and will play big final.

The ESPN-Petkovic love story was getting sickening.

Good win, Jelena, after a slow start. Maybe JJ will make a dent in her win/loss record against Maria tomorrow.

If Petkovic's meniscus has a tear, I can't figure out why she played. I hope it hasn't been further damaged.

She talked about the fans paying some big bucks in her presser. Very classy and thoughtful of her.

A bit different to Azarenka who decided 45 minutes before her night session match to withdraw.

Aug 21st, 2011, 02:49 PM
Petkovic was foolish to decide to play with a tear in her knee. This 'she did it for her fans' bogus is really nice, but with a bit of bad luck the injury turns out to be chronic and your fans won't even have the opportunity to see you in the first place.

Foolish decision alround.

This also goes for the ones claiming Azarenka is selfish for retiring/withdrawing because of precaution oftenly, absolute bogus. Both the claims and the persons claiming it.

Entertaining match :hearts: Congrats, Jelena! :worship:

Now a well deserved rest before US Open for Andrea

Sharapova leads Jankovic in their head-to-head, 5-1, although they haven't played in almost two years; they haven't played a completed match since 2008.

"I haven't played Jelena in quite a while," Sharapova said. "It's going to me more about what I do out there. So I really need to focus on doing the right things. But it's the final, so Jelena has obviously been playing well to get there.

"We've known each other since we were very young. We grew up in Florida in the same sort of group. In the juniors we played a lot of matches against each other. Here we are now at the professional level. We know each other's games quite well. It's good to see her back at this stage. She's a great player.

"She was No.1 in the world, so it's no joke."

"We haven't played each other for a while now," Jankovic said. "She's playing very well in this moment and it's going to be tough, but I'll try my best."

Finally Jelena vs Maria again! Jelena better not retire this time

Doctors told her she couldnīt aggrevate the injury by playing, and that it might very well be an old undetected injury. It is just swollen a bit, but she should be fine for the start of the US Open. Just a matter of getting the swelling down. According to Pektovic it was even worse than Shriver said. Petkovic claims her parents called the hospital, the WTA, physios, everyone, because they didnīt believe their "crying like a waterfall" daughter, who thought she had torn her ACL/MCL. Didnīt seem much wrong with her against Petrova or Jankovic in the movement, except for the big tape.

So a few days rest and she should be ready to go for the US Open.

She started caring again. And she brought Ricardo Sanchez back. But she said that she was struggling with caring about tennis, and that can affect your mentality a lot and your game.
