View Full Version : Williams' Sisters tournament withdrawals: A record?

I have often wondered over the years about the amount of tournaments V and S have entered and then withdrawn from, either before or during the tournament.

Do they rival Steffi? Her many withdrawals came in the second half of her career, but it seems to me that the Williams sisters have BOTH gone through this right the way through their careers. A pretty big coincidence that 2 sister tennis players also have a hell of a lot of injuries!

Regarding what somebody posted in the Cincy thread, are there really doctors that will fob off, say, tournament directors, at the request or payment of players? I have thought this for many years. There must be something fishy, can a person have so many things wrong with them over a period of time yet still be able to dominate a sport like tennis at close to 30?!

Are other player's record in this area followed much? Are there records kept about these things?

Whatever the truth, the fact is that the sporadic nature of their appearances at tournaments since the 90s has probably been what has kept both of them in the game, which, looking at women's tennis today, is one of the few things holding the WTA together. If it helps them stay in the game for a few more years, then long may the injuries continue!

This is silly ALL players withdrawal from tournments and if your hurt your going to withdrawal more. Im more concerned with players who are retiring from matches they have STARTED PLAYING once they are down just to save a little face.... Ala Justine OZ 06 . I dont want to hear anything about her stomach flu she just couldnt stomach losing to Amelie lol.

At least most of the times they withdraws before the draw is made.

Azarenka always pulls out mid-tournament so that she can still get her appearance fee, no zero point and she still can make some money out of that bonus pool at the end of the year.

I wonder if William Sisters Grand Slam victories is a record?

If the record in question is most total majors by one family, it may very well be. They have 36 (20 singles, 12 doubles, 4 mixed)

Even if it isn't they certainly seem to know how to handle their careers quite well don't they?

:p

Just like Wozniacki knows how to handle hers, and Sharapova knows how to handle hers, and.....you get the idea.

Save it for when it really matters...people are already forgetting the last 2 events Serena played...

That's not true, and even if it were, they could always look it up online. Thanks to the Internet, we don't have to remember anything. ;)

Better question:

How long did it take haters to come out the woodwork again?? Two tournament wins and one withdrawal

I have one.

"How long will the Haters create ridiculous Williams sistas hate threads and pepper us with with asinine questions?"

Do they rival Steffi?

Rival Steffi?

Leave Steffi out of this. By age 30, Steffi had played 1015 matches, won 88.7% of them, with 107 tournaments won. Steffi was no lazy slacker.

Lol at jamessuk and his lack of participation in this hate fest.

Typical loser behaviour, invite haters out the woodwork, then disappear.

Haters take bait, Mission accomplished.

:haha: :haha: :haha:

Now both sistas are juicing?! :spit:
Just keep 'em coming people, because I really do need the laughs.

I gotta tell ya that we've already been over this throughout their careers.
IF both sistas are juicing, then they must be using some highly undetectable stuff.
As much of an issue this theory has been in the past, there is no way possible that they could have gotten away with it.

On another note...
It seems that all of your posts have been dedicated to slandering and bashing the Williams sisters.
I don't expect you to last much longer, so you'd better consolidate all of that hate while you still can. :wavey:
If you can't beat them, make stuff up about them . Sad, but seeing these threads sprout up is somewhat nostalgic :). Serena is still doing her thing :hearts:.

You can actually research this, for singles anyway, by going to the WTA website, and checking out players yearly records. (I did this about five years back.) Note, withdrawing form tournament after they start, retiring during matches, and never playing in a tournament in the first place are three different things.

That said, five years ago, V & S had very different records in those areas.

Who's discussing lazy slackers in this thread?

Unless you're implying that Venus and Serena, two professional athletes, are lazy slackers. All from the comfort of your computer.

Nah, you couldn't be doing that.

SoBlackAndBlue you may be dealing with a teabagger here
It appears that the teabaggers are now posting on the TF GM.

I feel bad for all those fans who travelled from afar and bought tickets just to see Serena play. A hang-nail on her right toe? Way to go, Serena.

Yaay! Serena is wining non-slam tournaments again, now she is running away from doping tests,oh! & they ( V&S) have to play even when they are injured just like everyone does, they fake injuries so that they can prolong their careers,it doesn't get better than this, what else are they doing? ,keep them coming
Crucify them!!!!because they are...........
