Christina, I love you.

No, I really do. 5'7, thin, but great server and a more than OK forehand. It was really a pushy-pushy match today, but Wozniacki was out-edged in every aspect of the game. Out-topspun and moonballed into oblivion.

Losing streak of 3? 1 win in 5 matches. The Fall Commeth for our #1.

I like how Christina controlled the match and herself very well and just wait Wozniacki to get anxious and break down. Pretty much the way Wozniacki does to her opponents. But now it's backfiring to herself.

Outfoxed, outwhitted, outplayed. Christina McHale constructs points better than our World #1. At least Safina (before she got injured) and Jankovic were also challenging for Tour events besides slams, Wozniacki isn't challenging for slams and now she's flopping in Tour events.

Well played Xtina.

DOWN GOES THE PUSH. YES,YES,YES. IN set 2 tied at 5-5 with McHale leading 40-15,McHale made 2 beautiful saves, then after the 2nd fabulous return came to the net to claim the winning point to go up 6-5. Once again the world was saved from a PUSH TAKEOVER.

Copenhagen, we have a problem!

Last week there were some excuses. Rust, the wind, the slices..... but there are no excuses for today's performance. Awful performance, she was never in the match, way too passive and way to easy to piss off..

This is turning out to be a major slump, and in the worst of times really. With the form she's showing now, she isn't even close to be a contender for the USO.

What has happened to her in the past 8-9 weeks? Compared to that her clay & grass performance was world class. We´re used to see her lose important slam matches but that she can't advance R2 on hardcourt (!!!) all of a sudden is a major, major warning sign that something is very much going wrong.

If this continues there' no way she´ll defend her rank much longer... maybe losing it iswhat's needed for her to reset... I don't know.

It´s offical:

Love Slump

Told you McHale has the most potential of all the young North Americans. If she has time to execute her swings and control rallies she clearly has a great understanding of the game, but she seems prone to be overpowered. Nevertheless if she keep working hard, she´ll hang in the top 100 for a long time. That much is for sure.

Embarrassing. Absolutely embarrassing. She was outguiled by a weaponless player who didn't really have to do much herself, except take the ball early and hit to the forehand. Almost no point construction by Pushtine and ZERO imagination and variety. Anyone who dares compare her to Hingis should be shot, Hingis included.

Truth is that whoever becomes number 1 after Caro (if not named Serena) will meet the same heat from the forum: a one-slam wonder at number one is a joke, an old hag at number one is a disgrace, a slam-less wannabe at number one is ridiculous...

With Pushniacki's early losses, it's time for Zvonareva to step it up and take over that #1 spot! Go Vera:devil::devil:devil:

Better slumping Wozniacki than Zvonareva in the top, that would be the ultimate low for WTA Vera the number 1, unless she wins the US Open, then she would deserve I guess :oh:

This is just getting sad :tape: Her game is based so much on her mental advantage over all other players ... but now that's completely gone - she doesn't have the confidence that she won't make errors in long rallies, and her opponents are no longer scared of her. It seems all the criticism has got to her... though again, it's all of her own making. It's hard to see how she's going to avoid a Safina-style slump... her BFF Azarenka is probably preparing to take over the #1 spot as we speak.

After saying all year that she should skip New Haven (because I anticipated she'd actually be going deep in Toronto and Cincinnati), I now think she'd better get to NH pretty quickly, because she desperately needs matches if she wants to even get to the fourth round at the US Open.

She honestly has been playing poorly since Petkovic beat her in Miami. She might have won Copenhagen and Brussels, but that had a lot more to do with the circumstances and the field than her performances. But after Wimbledon she has really gone into full slump mode.

Maybe she has just run out of gas. The last couple of years she always had modest results/injuries in the first year of the half and was fresher than other players in the 2nd half. This year she played a loaded first six months.

She wasn't playing that great during the claycourt season (when does she ever play great?), but she was still winning plenty of matches, and I honestly thought Roland Garros this year was the best chance she's ever going to get of winning a Slam and making sure she kept the mental advantage over other players that has been so crucial to her success. None of the elite were at RG except Sharapova, who is still fundamentally unsure of herself on clay, and Wozniacki had a good chance of beating all the other second-fiddle players there (Azarenka, Zvonareva, Schiavone, hell I'd even back Woz over Li on clay in normal circumstances).

But Princess Karolina chose to go for the huge cheque at Brussels and tire herself out and injure herself on the eve of RG, thus blowing the best chance of a Slam that she was ever going to get.

If Petra would just get her shit together, she could take advantage of Caroline's CLEAR slump moment that's starting to coincide with her best season.

Caroline...I have no words. That was actually painful to watch from her. No amount of confidence in her game, whatsoever. Her forehand is turning into a rusty gate swing. What was troubling is that so many errors came off of the backhand. Media pressure is beginning to get to her, which is sad.

Dubai 2011 is probably peak Wozniacki. Contained tennis obviously, but still going for winners on top of a consistent serve. She was logging several dozen winners per match there wasn't she?

And Lol. Caroline on clay is a joke. If Sharapova is unsure of herself on clay, then Wozniacki is a cow on ice. Obviously better known in hindsight, but still. Her goal probably should have been to weather the clay and grass season. Come out with reasonable losses to favorites. Close enough that she would know she would have beaten them on hard.

From MegaDC two weeks ago :

'Her US hardcourt season will be her best so far and one of the best of all time. Being the best hardcourt player when she plays well, she'll be the one to beat for the rest of the season. Everybody else? They pale in comparison to her when she plays well and Clijsters is playing so badly lately.

Caroline will win Toronto and Cincinnatti, as she'll be the top seed and they are tier 1s. She does well in those. New Haven is pretty much hers. She's won there the last two times already and she'll make it three in a row. Then, the US Open arrives and she will finally win that big slam that has been missing. Her domination will start here, on her favourite surface. The Wozniacki era officialy begins at these tournaments. It's time.'

Yeah. The thing is I don't think she played as badly as people are claiming here, in terms of her striking. She was out-ground and out-smarted. Her backhand was effective, but she did nothing to try and take advantage of it. A brainless pusher, if there was ever one. He spoke to Piotr W. a few weeks ago, and when he asked him about preparations to the forthcoming US season, Piotr replied than even if Caro lose all her matches, she would still drop no further than #5 :tape: Like if he knew it was coming.

The fact that he even bothered to work out her projected ranking if she lost every match speaks volumes.

This. Any player in the top 100 who would face Caro will believe they have a real shot of beating her, and they are absolutely right.

Sadly yes.

She needs to get out of this funk quickly or US Open will be a short affair for her.

i start to wonder if the pressure of winning a slam is starting to take its tole on her

she says that its fine and that she knows she'll win a slam eventually and all that but fact is every time she fails the pressure just gets to be more and more and eats away at you.

I just hope she doesnt get completely destoryed and fall away like dinara started to even before her injury

I think it's incredible dishonest to act like this performance was to be expected. Don't give me that bullshit, you didn't expect her to lose two R2 matches in a row either.

If you would have, you could have made a lot of money...

I didn't believe she would lose to someone as weaponless as McHale no. She's even worse than I thought she was.

He went on a rant saying how she plays like a junior and how he's about to leave the court... she tried to silence him but he went on.

Granted, what he said was kind of true but I don't think it's constructive to tell her that if she's visibly struggling for confidence. Very odd..

So where does Piotr rank among WTA nutjob daddies now? :tape:

Wow. That's just...

I think I'm going to create a "Who is the worst WTA dad" thread a little later today. There are so many good choices, so many talented players who are wasting their careers because they're too afraid to get a decent coach.

Really...is there any doubt left that Caro's been the worst no.1 ever?! She's just hopeless against anybody who keep their head and pound the forehand, till the short reply comes or Caro makes the error.

Xtina out Wozzed Woz.

Christina's improved a ton since I saw her play earlier this year. She's willing now to go for winners, especially off her forehand. She's serving a ton better. Add that to the fact that she's quick enough to rally with Caro and you've got a dangerous opponent for someone who, when they're playing badly, retreats to moonballs.

I'm not willing to sound the alarm on Caro yet. She'll probably clean up in New Haven next week. If she bombs out early at the Open (like she did at the French and Wimbledon) then it's time for her and her fanbase to worry.

"Show me a good loser and I show you a loser" - Larry Bird

That being said she clearly is no sunshine on the court. That´s the one thing she has in common with the great champs. She really hates to lose and will do anything to win.

Even be to the limit of cheating and insult like she did on clay !? I fear Caro with the beatings she's going to get from now one will just start showing the real face she has been hiding behind her piotroesque smile and it's not going to be pretty.

Too bad she doesn't have the resumé to back off her bitchiness. :tape:

It is pretty obvious but I believe it takes losing the #1 ranking for her to make this decision. Being #1 is the thing she cherishes the most, losing that will make her more determined to do something different... I hope.

I´m not saying Piotr is a bad guy but it would be nicer to see her with someone who's some professional knowledge and can help her improve her game.

Some of us predicted way before the FO that something was up : her game was regressing, she was losing confidence and started feeling the pressure of being n°1 and having to prove herself again and again. She had mediocre clay and grass seasons including another couple of hurtfull losses in slams and played the worst match of the year against Alize in bastad. The question was not if she would suck on hc too but how much she'd suck (I must admit her slump is even worse than expected :oh:).

This is father-at-home envy by Woz directed at Rad.

Seriously though, she played some GOAT tennis in Dubai/Doha, but that was in February. Indian Wells was good, but nothing special, Miami - uhm, win in Charleston and F in Stuttgart - only because of confidence in winning tough matches, the standard of her play was low, which was again obvious in Brussels, she won because of her aura, how she closed out that match against poorly playing Fran I just don't know. What happened later in the slams we all know.

The loss last week wasn't worrying, even if that hilarious 2nd set is taken into account, we know that she's a match player and usually sucks after holiday, but today was just plain terrible and THAT is very worrying. I can't see her regrouping this year, not after what I've seen today.

Dubai 2011 is probably peak Wozniacki. Contained tennis obviously, but still going for winners on top of a consistent serve. She was logging several dozen winners per match there wasn't she?

Maybe, but she didn't exactly play any genuine Slam contenders there, except MAYBE Kuznetsova, who's flaky as hell.

With Henin gone, claycourts are a great equaliser as nobody has a particularly natural game for the surface. Don't forget 3 of the 4 semifinalists at RG this year would say clay is their worst surface. The last couple of years have shown that pretty much any Top 20 player who has great physical fitness and mental toughness can win RG, even with an average level of play (two things which are supposed to be Wozniacki's forte)... so I think that was the best shot Wozniacki was ever going to get.

She's still one of the best HC players right now. And I'd only put Serena and Kim above her at the US Open for now.

Really? A few weeks ago, I thought Wozniacki was 5th on the US Open contenders list, behind Kim, Serena, Maria and Petra... those 4 are definitely still ahead of her, and I'd put Azarenka and maybe Zvonareva and Bartoli ahead of her now too.

It was expected for Caro to naufrage one day and it's happening there... Caroline is not a real tennis player, she's just a mirror for other players to use and realize for themselves how inconsistent their power game has turned to be.

Now that they have progressed in that department, the mirror is useless and can be broken infinitesimal pieces... which is what's happening right there - ok, granted it started only with Vinci, now Christ Tina.

Because she worked them out.

Um, no. When Safina was #1, she could've chosen to gorge on appearance fees at nothing tournaments like Brussels and Copenhagen like Woz if she wanted... but she chose to take the #1 spot seriously and tried to peak for the Slams so that she could properly represent the sport - and she ended up performing much more respectably on the biggest stages than Wozniacki as a result. That's why the criticism of Safina was unjustified, because she actually tried her best to win a Slam... whereas Wozniacki is willingly making the sport a laughing stock.

And I didn't see her losing first round in back-to-back tournaments, but there was obviously a very high risk of Wozniacki slumping once the fear started to go, and you were very naive to think changing to hardcourts would be some silver bullet.

I don't think so. Yes, a great coach may help, but even with her game--the game most TF experts consider useless--had pushed her to a top position, pushing her past many muscled talented players. Even without any improvement, she has no business losing to greenbies like McHale in a pushing game.

I think it's about her head and lack of heart. I don't think even Roche can help if she thinks golfers and photoshots are more important than winning matches.

PS: I have never liked Piotr but I have a feeling he's actually the one trying to push her out of the pushing business. Breaking away from the comfort zone takes courage and risk, but I think it's time a choice is no longer an option.

This. Krajan used to do the same thing to her. Wonderful support...NOT! Piotr should look at Nigel Sears. Coaching Ivanovic is a challenge for everyone but he is incredibly supportive and it is starting to show on her results as well. Caro probably needs to have more say in their relationship and not let him overpower her.
