I can't understand why Eva Dyrberg is going to retire!
She's still young and I think she has a bright future ahead of her!

She has already broken into TOP 100 and I think she can improve in 2003 or even crack into TOP50..!!!She has potential to be a good player.....so sad to learn that she has retired in sych a young age..

Holly retired but she keeps appearing on the Powerbar ad at tennis magazine ;)

Eva took a very brave decision, sweeping tennis to studies. That was cool.

Magdalena Grzybowska is also an unsure retiree. She said that Surubaya might be her last event

Yep, Holly Parkinson definitely retired. She got married and is now coach at a University in Hawaii. She played this summer for "fun" only.

Coach in Hawaii? Sounds like a great life to me. Constant sunshine, beautiful ocean, fun people, play a little for "fun" . . . what else can anyone ask for? Lucky Holly.

I had no idea Plischke and Sidot had retired. They were really good players at one point. Maybe they couldn't stand the grind anymore. Dyrberg retiring to go to medical school is pretty cool. Maybe she only played pro tennis long enough to earn the money needed for school. Good for her. She's a woman with her priorities straight.:)

Candice Fuchs plays NCAA tennis now

Elena Wagner retired about a year or two ago I believe

Jing-Qian Yi and Jolene Watanabe both retired last year

Tracy Almeda-Singian is injured I'm pretty sure.

Jane Chi retired after this year's US Open.

Natalia Egorova retired this year I think.

John Wertheim reported about 2 weeks ago that Kim Po-Messerli retired recently aswell.

Anyone know about Miriam Schnitzer, Karin Miller, Dawn Buth, Mia Buric, Eun-Ha Kim, Lenka Dlhopolcova, Romana Tedjakusuma, or Katerina Basternakova ?

Not sure what's the deal with Miriam Schnitzer. Last year she was doing so well. But this year, I saw her in Hamburg and she didn't seem to be particularly interested in playing tennis. :o She hasn't played since then.
Mia Buric is still playing, I think, but with little success.

Jane Chi officially retired

DutchieGirl
Nov 8th, 2002, 01:06 AM
Yvette Basting  She's been injured alot, but she only played like 3-4 tourneys this year, so I dunno if she's gonna retire because of the injuries.

Eva Dyrberg may come back - Look at Sam Smith - she quit when very young to go back to University - then made a comeback after she graduated and made her highest career ranking of just outside the top 50...

ColinB

Others to add to the list..

Amy Frazier... is she retiring? She said that this year's US Open was her last...

Aranxta... I hope not, but she has given strong signales recently that she is considering retirement...

Mary Pierce... Hasn't been seen since the US Open and comeback has largely failed... Does she have the motivation to go on.... I hope so....

-- You can add Byron Black and David Wheaton on the men's side. Byron played one last Davis Cup tie after Wimbledon, then called it a career. Wheaton hung up his racket at the end of the Team Tennis season and is now on the USTA board.

-- I'd submit Karina Habsudova for the unsure list. As far as I know, she hasn't played since Australian Open qualies.

-- Holly Parkinson took her husband's last name and became Holly Hasler shortly before retiring.

-- I've got Karin Miller's e-mail address, so if that's still valid maybe I can drop her a line and find out if she's retired.

I believe Magdalena Kucerova has played Challengers in the past month. If not, then I'm getting the Kucerovas mixed up, which wouldn't be difficult to do. Are you sure you're not wondering about Gabriela Kucerova? She hasn't played in several months.

Albers played once this year; losing to Antonella Voina in Bielefeld (posted to rankings in Week 35).

Dlhopolcova is injured, according to what was mentioned elsewhere on this board.

What ever happened to Melanie Schnell?

Romana Tedjakusuma is injured.

Eun-Ha Kim was injured but she's waiting for her Protected Ranking to take place after 6 months.

Karina is unfortunately still not back from a serious achilles injury she sustained at the beginning of the season. Hope to see her back next season.

Hi 'England-Rules' - Louise Latimer retired last year - she grew increasingly disalusioned with tennis and all the travelling and took some time off with her boyfriend... She enjoyed her freedom so much, she gave up...shame..

yeah, what the heck happened to Lara, Aneila, Natasha and Gisele. Anca Anastasiu also doesn't seem to be doing much lately.

I had thought that Losey played some challengers this year, but I'm probably wrong.

Abigail Tordoff and Nicola Payne both went back to school I think - don't know whether they plan on coming back at some point or not.

Amiela Mojzis plays NCAA tennis, as does Lara Van Rooyen I believe.

Benjamas Sangaram retired at the end of last season.

Caroline retired? She was just starting to move up the rankings too!

I was also surpriced when I heard the news this week. Caroline had a injury this summer, I suppose that is the reason for her to give up:sad:

Anyway ,she might come?? back :)
