Nastya now ranked #304 in the world with the Wimbledon QF points from last year being knocked off.

She currently has 76 points, and the Stockholm final (which she will 99% miss) carrying 67 points.

After Stockholm, she will have 9 points :help: leaving her at about #850 + :help:

But hopefully, she will be able to get many WC is she returns, especially into slams and tier I/II's. ;)

You have to find young ones, the older ones are physically beat up.
A player who reminds me of Nastya is Safarova. She hits with much more spin, but her speed, and power when she gets to the ball, reminds me of a lefty Nastya.

I don't have a fave #2. There are some players that I have fun to watch for different reasons like Serena, the Serbians, Anna C (except when she cries on court à la Zvonareva), Lena D etc. but I don't support them.

still it is different than for nastya, I'm not always cheking their result etc etc (safe for likho of course!)
I like tennis in general so I try to find other fav' because it is always better to support someone...when nastya was playing it was easier! I was for nastya and that's it! now it depends...

I see no reason not to believe her, actually. She made two attempts of comebacks, got reinjured each time. She suggests that as soon as she is healthy, she'll be back. She had a similar period in 2000-2001, back then I thought she won't recover, but she did.. If she take another several months off, it's fine.. She is not playing USO, that we know, there is nothing important in tennis for next half of year or so..

If she is still injured why can she participate in a celebrity ice skating contest?

I don't believe she is injured nor do I believe she wants to have to fight her back and accept the probable mediocre results that she would have since she is past her prime and won't be reaching her previous heights. I think she knows she probably can't make top 10 again as she found out last year and doesn't want to play if she can't have the same successes as 2003-4.

Reporter: "I've got to ask you, is this the end for you as a tennis player?"

Nastya: "It's really difficult right now because of my injury, if you want to play you have to train 4-5 hours, and my foot isn't ready for that. And I really want to play again. Lets say its 50-50"

Nastya needs to know people want her back in the game, people want to train her back to 2004 form. It's a in her mind whether she wants to give up her new life of TV presenter in Moscow, which would be very laid back and easy, to back on the tour traveling the world and practising everyday.

What was she doing? Imagine yourself wearing the skates.. How it is even possible to bring together a blade and inner part of one's thigh.. Simply standing on the ice, it is unlikely. But... there are any number of moves in an ice show that could result in that situation and injury. Not being into that kind of event, I don't know the technical names, but virtually any fall while gliding, jumping, twirling, dancing, running on tiptoes, etc., could do it.

Poor Nastya! :smooch: Get well soon, and come back to tennis!

Nastya had flight to UZbekistan in order to take part in the trophy ceremony of Tashkent Open

Helping out at the trophy ceremony - and several other activities during the week - was Russia's Anastasia Myskina, who is part Uzbek herself.

"It was a pleasure to be here; my grandmother was born in Uzbekistan and so it is really great for me to be back here," Myskina said. "I'm so glad the tournament committee invited me here. Thank you all very much."

Myskina, a former world No.2 and Roland Garros champion, has been sitting out the majority of this season due to a continuing left foot injury.

"I tried a comeback in January and then again at the French Open and you know what happened," the 26-year-old added. "I have to take it as it comes. When I get on court I can't move. I'm not planning a date to return but I'll be back."

Catching Up With... Anastasia Myskina

With six players in the Top 20 Russia is undoubtedly the preeminent tennis nation on the Sony Ericsson WTA Tour and were it not for a long-term left-foot injury to Anastasia Myskina (http://www.sonyericssonwtatour.com/2/players/playerprofiles/Playerbio.asp?PlayerID=130533) the number would undoubtedly be higher. In 2004 the Muscovite became the first player from her homeland to lift a Grand Slam title when she defeated compatriot Elena Dementieva at Roland Garros. This achievement is, to date, the pinnacle of a career which has brought the 26-year-old 10 Tour titles - two of these at the Kremlin Cup - and despite her injury the former world No.2 returned to Moscow once again this year to carry out her role as interviewer for Russian TV station NTV+.

sonyericssonwtatour.com caught up with Anastasia in-between interviews in the Russian capital to talk television, comebacks and soccer!

What have you been up to while you have been away from the Tour?
I've been doing quite a lot of TV work in Moscow, mostly with tennis and I've enjoyed it so far. It's great fun because I get to see lots of friends involved in the sport and in a more relaxed way and I still feel I'm in touch with the girls on Tour. Also recently I've been hosting a soccer talk show and even though I'm not the most knowledgeable fan it's been great fun to get involved in another sport.

How did you get involved in the television work?
One of my close friends has been working for a tennis channel in Russia for a while and after I had surgery on my foot she suggested I get involved in some TV work. As I was scheduled for quite a long break to recover from the operation, I thought, 'why not?' It's difficult just sitting at home recovering from injuries and having no real schedule so I thought it would be an ideal way to use this free time.

How does it feel to be off the Tour recovering from injury?
Like I said before, it's strange not having a schedule and it's an unusual feeling for a tennis player as we are so used to that schedule taking up our time. It feels a little sad to be off Tour and out of that routine and it definitely takes some getting used to and at the moment I still miss it a lot, but perhaps it would have been worse if I had'nt kept myself so busy!

How did your surgery go?
The surgery on my foot went well, but I think I rushed back from it a little too quickly and when I appeared at Roland Garros I don't think I was 100% ready. Part of the reason I play was just that I wanted to appear in Paris so much, but perhaps looking back I maybe should have waited a little longer. The problem is I still feel some discomfort when I play and so I can't play to my full potential and I think I need to wait until that is possible before I make another comeback.

How much do you miss the game?
There are certain parts of being a tennis player that I don't miss at all like the travelling, but at the same time I miss the game as a whole and so I'm really hopeful of making a comeback sometime soon. I don't really want to have to play through the pain, but I'm still practicing quite regularly and although it still doesn't feel perfect yet I think it's improving. I also miss the girls on Tour a lot as you become quite close when you travel all over the world together, so it's nice when I see them at tournaments I do TV work for.

How does the injury affect your play?
I still have scars from the surgery and they have not fully healed yet and because of this there is some slight numbness on my big toe. Unfortunately this affects my movement quite a lot and when I practice I don't feel my mobility around the court is as good as perhaps it was or should be. I'm still optimistic that in time they will heal fully though and I will be able to play to my maximum again.

What is it like being back at the Kremlin Cup?
It's nice to be back here at the tournament venue as I got the trophy in 2004 and 2003 and it brings back lots of good memories. It's great to see lot of old friends as well and I'm happy to meet up with the girls on Tour as I haven't seen some of them for quite a while. Our relationship is a bit different now as I don' think they see me as a rival anymore so we can talk and chat like friends and trust each other more. Whereas before we were rivals and didn't want to give away our secrets!

Of course, Nastya being Nastya the statement "I plan to play at the Australian Open" could mean anything from "I am retired and will never pick up a racket again" to "I'm really coming back sometime in July" to "Please pass me another donut."

I wish her all the best and I hope that the pregnancy goes without difficulties and of course that the baby will be healthy.

I do think it is rather unfortunate that she split up with the father of the child, for her, the father and the child (but I guess I'm just being old-fashioned).
I hope she will meet someone to raise up the kid with. Or maybe she took the decision to be an unwed mother. In Dutch we call this kind of mother a 'BOM' (literally this is the Dutch word for 'bomb'), which is an abbreviation of 'Bewust Ongehuwd Moeder' (consiously/deliberately unwed mother). I already knew Nastya was a 'bomb', but not that kind of bomb

In this interview http://www.expert.ru/printissues/russian_reporter/2007/27/interview_myskina/at the end Nastya says :
"Настя, а почему вы такая закрытая? О вашей личной жизни пресса почти ничего не знает."
"Потому что о моей личной жизни было выдумано очень много историй. То я с кем-то встречаюсь, то замуж выхожу. Поэтому я старалась о себе вообще ничего не рассказывать. Не хочу, чтобы люди думали обо мне как о вольной девушке, которая каждый день выходит замуж и меняет молодых людей."

She says that the newspapers invents a lot of stories on her private life.

I hope she will give an interview very quickly in a serious newspaper to say the truth.

I know the Tvoy Dyen paper is rubbish, not even worth of the name 'yellow press', and I really can't believe that she gave an interview. It's the kind of paper that invents interviews. So I was/am very sceptical too. But Eggy kinda confirmed the pregnancy and he (she?) seems to be a more reliable source. Oh well, we'll see in a couple of months. Preggers or not preggers ...
