Nastya, I feel, needs all the help she can get. But good luck if play isn't rained off again tomorrow!

well. i'm back from the Open... it was awful yesterday. so much rain.. and after it started to get slippery.. they took her to the locker room so fast... that i wasn't able to keep up .. (and i thought if i run after them.. maybe they would think i'm trying to do something to her, and security will stop me.. )
it was so cold.. at least i thought it was cold... i was all wet. from sitting there. waiting for nastya to come out.. i could barely move my fingers... (at first i could barely clap.. lol)... but anyways.. at the i was kind of disapointed. cause i wasn't able to get an autograph or give her a painting i had done for her... and the only reason for going to the Open was to see her.. and everything came out all wrong.. but at least i got to see. her.. i also saw her mom. and Larissa (i think that her name.. i don't know. the other coach) and some guy...
but anyways.. she looked beautiful!
i have a few pics.. i'll share soon.. now i got to go to school

well i am pretty shocked to say the least ,I know Nastyas had a few probs lately ,but she has been beating these type of players quite nicely ,but now she falls to someone I have never heard of at all.. this is wierd ,i simply thought she would have had no probs winning this one... oh dear...well what can you do...theres always the indoor season I guess...

This sucks, but you can hardly call it an upset.
I'm really sad. I can't be angry cause I don't know what's happening to her right now. It's just so weird. She played awful tennis the last couple of weeks, maybe even worse than in 2005. She didn't play superb tennis in the period Wimby 2005-2006, but at least she beat the players she was supposed to beat (well, most of the time). Now she can't even make the match close against a mediocre (sorry for the Azarenka fans) player. Azarenka is in horrid form herself and yet she can win the match 6/4 6/2. After Wimbledon 2005, she started to win some matches again, and after this year's grass season, I really believed she would continue her improvements. But suddenly, she just falls apart and nothing works for her anymore. I really wonder what happened. I can't believe there is no reason at all why she suddenly started to play horrendous tennis.

Aaaarrrrgggghh, why nastya :bigcry:
Well, YEC is gone (just in case she still believed she could make it). I hope she can start playing better now the pressure is gone. She'd better kick ass during the indoor season. And she'd better not skip Hasselt cause I bought my tickets (I should've bought tickets for the first round :tape: ).

@Angie: it's really sad you couldn't get an autograph

Jens wasn't with Larissa and her mom :awww:

no. jens.. there was this other guy with them. i don't who it was....

i was all day in the grounds on monday.. and i didn't see nastya anywhere...waiting for her on the practice courts.. but she never came. so i went to see kuznetsova's match. and then i went back. and nothing.. i don't know where she was....

well. from what i saw yesterday.. she didn't look that happy to be on court.. i don't if it was because of the weather.. but her face didn't show any happines.. only before the match started.. she was talking to the umpire.. and she smiled (got a pic of that....) but nothing else.. and then one time when azarenka served. and it was a fault (didn't pass over the net).. she showed an upset face.. so i don't know what's wrong with her.. the first point she could have won.. but she lost.. it.... and well. she hits the ball so slow.. compared to azarenka.... hope after the break she's going to take.. she comes fresh. and ready.. because i don't really want her to retire.. i would like to see her again...! and there was this male tennis player there too.. i don't know if it's that guy you guys think its her boyfriend... but he looked like him.. (right now i can't remember his name)....
there was quite some people waiting for them to play.. but then it started pouring again.. so people started leaving... then.. it was just my parents and me waiting.. so i don't maybe it was time to leave.. but then we went again. when it kind of stopped raining.. and people came back.. and they were talking that it was going to be a good match (cause of myskina).. but now from the results it doesn't seem it was that good...

* i'll post the pics right now.. in the on-court pics thread..

Nastya!! :bigcry:
Something has to be going on with Nastya. The match wasn't shown here, and no stats available from that court. :(

I saw Azarenka play in Memphis this year. As #137-ranked WC she took out #1 seed Nicole Vaidisova 7-6(5), 2-6, 6-4. She is a talented, agressive 17-yr old, and she got to the finals in doubles with 15-year old WC Caroline Wosniacki. Vika was 16 then. She may have been in horrible form earlier, but that doesn't mean she stayed that way. She's a dangerous opponent.

Angie, will you be able to get back for doubles or mixed? Did you ask security about the practice schedule? It's worth a try. Nastya would appreciate it.

Yeah, and Nastya-Molik pulled out of the doubles. It was a fast USO for Nastya, one match one defeat, she won't be too tired.
Seriously, she has 5/6 weeks off the tour, I hope she will use it wisely.

Jurgen will play the men's doubles so we are 100% sure that the withdrawal is due to Nastya.
I hope she'll get well soon, you never know how long can be a break due to a foot injury, look at Rafa Nadal, he couldn't play the Masters last November and the AO this year for a similar reason. Hopefully Nastya's injury is less serious.

Retrospectively, if she actually does have a sore foot, it would have been much better to withdraw, than suffer 3 consecutive first round losses. That will likely damage her confidence more I guess.

Anyway, I hope she rests well, and get's back into good form. Her slam results this year are still decent for her ranking (besides USO):

2006: 4, 4, QF, 1

We just know she can/should do better!

Actually the only slam result she improved upon from last year is the French Open. Her results at AO and Wimbledon were the same. And did worse at the Open.

Yeah I know they still aren't amazing - but even in 2004 when she won a slam she still only had:

W, QF, 3, 2

2006: 1, 4, 4, QF
2005: 1, 3, 4, QF

So maybe she did one round better in total....

sorry. i just read your question.. (i've been so busy.. )
but anyway...

well.. from the few moments i saw.. it didn't really look like she had any problems.... if i hadn't known about it, i would have guessed. she was in good condition.. she got to all the balls and everything.. didn't look slow at all.

what i can tell you is that she didn't look happy there....
i don't know if i already posted this here or not.. but on one point in the second game... she hit this ball back.. and it went out.. but out of the court.. and it almost hit this lady that was sitting close to where her mom was. we all laughed (because that lady screamed so loud.. and in a funny way.. ) but nastya didn't even smile, she didn't even excuse herself or anything.... she only smiled two times.. one time when she was talking to the umpire.. there were some photographers beside me.. and we all started taking pictures of her at the same time.. and then she smile, and looked shy etc.. that was all.. no other type of emotion was shown..

But it most be disheartening for Nastya to see that her ranking at the end of the year is likely going to be worse then it was last year. Clearly her chances at the top 10 are gone for a long time if not forever.

lol, yeah;) Maybe she´s done it on her own. Or MAYBE (I can´t believe no one has thought about this) it´s her evil twin sister she had never met. The real Nastya is somewhere caught in a closet back home in Moscow. The blonde twin just wants to chase men!

Same for me, although a lot of my tennis interest has been around Jankovic lately, i'd given up hope on her at the start of the yeat, but now she seems to be back on track.

I was thinking about it, and it will be almost impossible for Nastya to drop out of top 20 anytime soon... Most other people's fav's haven't won a Grand Slam in the last few years, 2 Fed Cups, and a couple of Tier 1's... So supporting Nastya hasn't always been in vain for me.

If things don't get better during indoor season, she needs to shake up everything tennis related in her life though... fast!

btw about nastya thinking about retiring...I don't know what to say someone mentioned that it must be hard to see her ranking falling down and being worst than last year...I completly agree...I try to hide my fear thinking that she doesn't care about her ranking even if I'm not sure that it's true but sometimes with nastya you can never know...you think white and it's black so...or dark and it's blonde ;)

I think they give it for promoting tennis in the world and how Nastya likes to spend a lot of time off court "promoting tennis" she gets it. I'd like to see her promoting tennis on court and lifting other trophies beside the ace one.

Am I the only one who doesn't really care about YEC?
She won't make it, and I don't want her to go to Madrid because 5 players pulled out. Even if she plays well in her last 3/4 tournies, she won't be able to catch up with the girls in front of her (at least I think so, didn't make any calculations). It's no big deal. I want her to play well in her upcoming tournies just to rediscover the passion and motivation for the sport, not for YEC. She set YEC as a goal, but that does not mean she'll retire if she can't make it to Madrid. She said she wanted to compete on a high level (ok, I admit, the high level play is as far away as YEC at the moment :o ), if not she would consider retirement. So all I hope for is that she'll play well and enjoy herself on court. If she does so, I'll be a very happy fan, YEC or no YEC.

She'll earn a lot more if she decides to play an extra year.
No YEC means a longer off-season, a lot of time to do some useful and necessary things to clear her head and improve her game. Let's hope she won't spend the off-season in Austria.

And no, I'm not too fond on the Schmelzer story. Don't really know why. It's great that she's happy off court, but I'd love her to focus just a little bit more on tennis (selfish me, I want to enjoy some great matches of Nastya :p ).

Yes, maybe you're right. If she wins all her upcoming tournaments, then it would actually be great for her to head to Madrid, in full confidence. But that's very unlikely to happen. I only want her to go to YEC if she improves drastically, if not she'll get double bagelled. And that's of course the least I want if she's already thinking about retirement. I want her to end the year with a positive feeling. Ah well, we'll see. I only wish for her to compete at least one more year. The tour would be very boring without Nastya.

I'm going to be a realist or pessimist if you prefer that term and say I doubt she'll reach YEC.

it says a lot of thing (I let you all translate ;)) and in the middle of all this things it says that she'll soon leaving russia to austria to have a treatment for her feet...I guess that the best part of the world to do this is austria of course!!! nothing to do with melzer!
it also says that she hopes to be ready for the kremlin cup but that she is not sure and that she thinks about the men who will play the davis cup against the u.s.a and the she hopes that the score will be great for russia (of course) even if it will be hard

First, of course, she needs to play a lot better, 'cause Russia will be represented by the top 4 (Nastya is not even in the Russian top 5 these days  ). Playing well in the last tournies of this season would be a good start. I hope the foot injury is fully healed (should be, after treatment by 'Doctor Magic Melzer'), so let's kick ass in Stuttgart!

even if she doesn't play fed cup in 2007 and 2008 shamil will always find a place for her I'm sure...honestly she is his protegée...when we didn't know where the next olympic games take place, moscow was in competition it was in 2005 and she was not doing very well at this time but shamil took her with him to represents tennis...I realy think that if she asks him she'll play even if it's just double

as for the "doctor melzer" I hope that he has his diploma because I want her to come back stronger!
she seems to be mature now...maybe it's a good point...for my part I prefer when she says thing like the one she said about jankovic for exemple! she is funnier!

I think German among Russian is considered to be the two most ugly languages in terms of pronouncation (or the lack thereof;)).

Personally I can´t really say anything about it since I cannot see it from a different view other than mine. For sure not everyone talks like Hitler used to do (which was more like the order-type of guy)...probably the most common reason why everyone finds German totally unattractive.

nastya loves to be the only russian to win...if another russian won before her she'll not win!
if I'm right there is 4 russians who played the final of Rg (sveta nastya lena and morozova) and nastya is the only one who on it!
the same with the Kremlin cup...anna made the final lena D too but nastya is the only one who won it!

Good to know the injury is not very serious. I had a stress fracture in high school when I was on the Cross Country team. Ran on it for like a month before the pain became too much.

You need to have a bone scan done to detect a stress fracture. X-rays don't work. At least that was the case when I had a stress fracture.
