Tuesday, thatīs great cause that would mean all my faves are actually playing on the same day.

Speaking of faves...did I mention Ola and I met Andy Roddick (and the rest of the US team) in a bar this week? Awwwwwwwwwww!!! So nice and cute! Sorry, even days afterwards, I am excited about it . Actually called my mum right after taking a pic and telling him best wishes for his ankle.

Any chances Nastya gets scheduled on the show courts? I mean are there a lot of Indians living in France?

Wow you're so lucky to meat your fave :D
Actually I don't want Nastya to be on show court because I have a ticket for court Suzanne Lenglen and outside courts but I'm afraid Nastya will be on Center Court (which I doubt!!) or Court 1 (which is more probable  )!!

May 29th, 2006, 06:17 AM
I would think Nastya will be on one of the main courts since she is a former champ. Gaudio is playing on Lenglen I believe so I think Nastya is likely to get the same treatment.

Thauron
May 29th, 2006, 08:23 AM
I agree with Foot's Fingers - her health is the only thing that matters. Injury-risk is one of the reasons why most players don't want to play the week before a slam, and than to injure oneself the day in the final... I hope that injury is minor enough to be fully healed by tomorrow.

Bloody dissappointed she missed an excellent opportunity to conquer her 11th WTA singles titles - but she gets two more weeks to right that wrong from me ;)

I know how you feel, because I met Nastya 14 days ago in Rome and I'm still excited too. I can hardly believe it yet. A lot of times in the last days I have said "I have met Nastya, I have met Nastya" to convince myself that is real.
She is special, one of the reason why she won the Diamond Ace Award in the last 3 years is interaction with fans, right? Well, according to what I have seen in Rome, nobody can take her away that award.

As regard tomorrow, goooo Nastya!!

Is this the first time Nastya has teamed up with her best friend in a GS doubles match? Good luck to her and Lena L. Not a bad draw.

More important though, is that Nastya and Martina will both play first on the major courts on Tuesday! That's awesome, because i'll be able to watch both before I go to bed! I hope for an easy win for both, otherwise i'll be going to bed in a  mood.

I doubt they will show Nastya over Hingis. Australian coverage has been flicking between the two major courts the last 2 nights, so I hope that they do that again.

Hingis is likely to finish before Nastya, therefore it's likely that we might get to see the end of her match/rollercoaster!

Nastya is playing one of the most ugliest matches...
I'm following the SB and at one point the stats were the following:
22 points won by Nastya, 18 UFs by Mirza, 3 winners by Nastya... I assume that one was "forced"...

Ok, now it's a bit better and 6-4 first set.

I've just watched the whole second set, and I haven't seen her play that well in over a year!

The serve was way better than i've seen it in ages today! Different paces, places, and the 2nd serve was faster too!

She even gave herself a cute little clap on her racket at the end! Looking gorgeous in yellow!!

Almalyk
May 30th, 2006, 10:22 AM
Jens and the lady with blonde hair were sitting together in the stands too! I don't know what the story was.

There was no signs of injury for sure, and when she was signing the camera, she had the biggest smile! It was so great to see!

Every second point in the 2nd set was a Myskina winner - and the last 75% of the match she had way more winners than UE's. If I remember correctly, she had around 9 UE at the start of the match before she even hit a winner, so she came back really well.

Backhand looking :bigclap:

totally agree - no double faults, and 4 aces! Usually it would be the other way round!

OMG i can't believe i missed nastya play! bad fleur!
anyway, that was one hell of a quick match!! 56mins! nastya must have been super motivated to make it past the first round!

btw, here's the match stats: (hope everyone can read it properly. i tried to space it out)
Mirza (IND) Myskina (RUS)

1st Serve % 32 of 50 = 64 % 35 of 55 = 64 %

Aces 0 4

Double Faults 1 0

Unforced Errors 37 25

Winning % on 1st Serve 19 of 32 = 59 % 23 of 35 = 66 %

Winning % on 2nd Serve 3 of 18 = 17 % 13 of 20 = 65 %

Winners (Including Service) 9 21

Receiving Points Won 19 of 55 = 35 % 28 of 50 = 56 %

Break Point Conversions 2 of 4 = 50 % 5 of 6 = 83 %

Net Approaches 3 of 7 = 43 % 1 of 3 = 33 %

Total Points Won 41 64

Fastest Serve 165 km/h 173 km/h

Average 1st Serve Speed 146 km/h 152 km/h

Average 2nd Serve Speed 128 km/h 123 km/h

Seems to me that nastya was playing pretty well. serve didn't seem that slow from the stats in comparison to her normal ones and FOUR aces!! she made quite a few UEs but then the winners pretty much covered it. from what i gather, it seemed to be more of a baseline game - nastya only came to the net 3 times.

Didn't have a chance to watch it though, so I am eagerly awaiting Frenchie's report too - with such a scoreline he should have survived. ;)

Myskina pressures herself to succeed in 2006 or quit
Wednesday May 31 2006 00:00 IST
AP

PARIS: In 2004, Anastasia Myskina became the first Russian woman to win a Grand Slam title when she won the French Open.

Only two years later, after a disappointing season in 2005 in which she became the first defending champion to lose in the first round at Roland Garros, Myskina says she'll have to have a better showing in 2006 or retire.

"I give one more chance to myself this year to do well, and Ihave a goal," said Myskina, who was focused on her mothers battle with cancer last year.

"I know it's (my goal) a really tough one, but it's to be in Madrid (at the season-ending championships) by the end of the year.

So if I can reach that one, that's going to be perfect." Myskina finished the 2005 season out of the top 10 for the firsttime in three years. But she's doing much better this year with a14-8 record, having reached the semifinals at Tokyo and the quarterfinals at Miami.

When asked why she would consider possible retirement at only 25, Myskina insisted there is no point in playing if you can't compete at a top level.

"There's so many things you can do besides the tennis," she said after beating Sania Mirza of India 6-4, 6-1 in the first round at Roland Garros. "I don't want to be in the middle (of the field) of something. I want to be either top player or just (do) something else good."

Is this really true?

I wouldn't be surprised if that is true. Anyone who had won a slam and been to number 2 in the world, would find it hard to adjust to medioce performances over a long period of time. Let's hope things pick up, and there isn't any need for a retirement party.

2nd set
UEs to Winners: 11-13 1st Serve pts won: 58% 2nd Serve pts won: 67%

Mirza fell way down on her serve pts won.

Petrova is out, def by Morigami 2 & 2.
Dulko def Beygelzimer 6-3, 2-6, 11-9!

H-H should be the only real threat in the 1/4, 'tho a few speedbumps still remain.

GO NASTYA!!!

petrova's out??? well well well!!! :bounce: :bounce:
but i suppose one match at a time. ivanovic is probably the main threat atm after she blitzed sammie stosur...

i loved the article and feel the same way. no wonder nastya is my favorite.

so if she loses to ivanovic that would be SO mediocre. there was a thread in gm and justine twisting her ankle and i was like "yes!!! justine and nadia gone. myskina can make the semis" so MAYBE she will do such a thing, MAYBE she'll beat justine on clay. hopefully she can make the fourth round. please please please do this nast.

I understand why Nastya would want to retire if she can't get back to the top. That said if she doesn't qualify for the YEC I don't think she will pack it in. Unless she makes no progress the rest of the year.

Yes 4th round definitely has to be the objective. Nastya vs. Henin-Hardenne would probably be shown on ESPN. Especially since there shouldn't be any Americans left by then other than maybe Venus.

Goals and retirement:

Nastya have been asked Have she thinking abt retirement when was starting to lose match after match last year. Answer was : When she playied bad such kind of thoughts were in her head But she knew she can play as previosly on her top again Her goal for the season : Madrid and top 10 NO WORDS ABR POSSABLE RETIREMENT

Fed Cup: She said she already announed and said to Tarpischev that in 2006 would not play in Fed Cup cos would like to concentrate on her own carier She thinks she couldn't help in match against Belgium Even more and especially climate in a team was not ideal She will not play against Croatia for sure but she is full of confidance that Dementieva Kirilenko and Safina will win (no mention 4rd person)

Than for direct question abt not ideal climate in a team to advise (not the name) if there is any players with whom Nastya Don't want to play in one team , yes or not Nastya prefers not to answer

Helle all I'm back!! :wavey:

What a great day for me :bounce: (except the weather: it was like in winter at times)
Most of you got the chance to watch the match butI read you are all waiting for my report :p
Of course the highlight of my day was to follow Nastya's match for the first time (I don't consider watching Nastya's third set against MSL last year as a first time :tape: ). And our girl was playing very good clay court tennis

She entered the court in second position but never quitted the pole position after that.
I was immediatly amazed by Nastya's BH. It's a so much flat, accurate and precise shot with a nice sound while hitting :hearts: but I didn't like the top of her outfit :(

You'll have pics later because my 2 friends are going to send them in a few days ;)

Then the match begun. I was a little worried because Sania was hitting with a lot of pace which was troubling Nastya in the first 2 games. Sania quickly led 1*/0 40/15 but Nastya was really calm and focused.
She stormed back with great defense and a little bit of finesse game (even if she did an awful dropshot :o ) At 4/4 I still thought everything could happen but Nastya won easily the next 2 games thanks to her nice serve (yes you read correctly  ) and 2 aces in her service game!!
Of course I was waiting for the second set letdown but it never happened :D Actually in the second set Nastya's game really impressed me. After saving 2 or 3 BPs in the first game, Nastya played with so much confidence. Her BH was on fire especially DTL. She often caught Sania off guard with that shot on service returns.
Nastya was really happy to win. She turned to Jens and Larisa in the stands as if she wanted to say "finally a good match". She even gave them a thumb up, and a little applause with her racket :D

Jens and Larisa were sitting together in the stands: Larisa is a much more supportive person than Jens. She was sometimes the only person applausing in the crowd  I have a pic of them too

What more to tell??
I wanted to see the b***h who beat Nastya in the final on saturday :fiery: and I was really impressed by Peer. There's no shame losing to her IMO especially in the third set TB. I read Shahar was the new Smashnova but this is totally wrong. She's got a very good all roung game with a lot of power and a nice movement. She totally dismantled Savchuk.

Oh, and I heard people saying how impressive Ivanovic was playing and that she could win the title with that kind of play  Ana could be a major threat to Nastya on a good day :(

I saw a lot of other players as I wanted to see everybody of the WTA!!
Feel free to ask me questions :bounce:

I hope I was clear

about ana- i saw her play in miami and she was amazingly good. i left in the middle of the second because she was winning so easily, but the next time i looked at the scoreboard it was a third set. so yes, she has amazing potential and could beat nearly anyone on a good day, but she is very VERY streaky, not only from tourney to tourney but within matches as well. so if nastya just keeps fighting im sure she could pull it out.

Whenever I've seen them over the past few years, whether on TV or live, Jens has always been rather passive. Of course usually he's sitting there absorbing abuse from Nastya from the court. :) I'm guessing she wasn't yelling at him much the day you were there, as the match was going along quite nicely.

Myskina tells herself to do better or quit
By SANDRA HARWITT, For The Associated Press

PARIS (AP) -- When Anastasia Myskina won the French Open in 2004 she became the first Russian woman to win a Grand Slam title.

Two years later, after a disappointing season in 2005 in which she became the first Roland Garros defending champion to lose in the first round, Myskina says she'll have to do better in 2006 or retire.

"I give one more chance to myself this year to do well, and I have a goal," said Myskina, who was focused on her mother's battle with cancer last year.

"I know it's (my goal) a really tough one, but it's to be in Madrid (at the season-ending championships) by the end of the year. So if I can reach that one, that's going to be perfect."

Myskina finished the 2005 season out of the top 10 for the first time in three years.

But she's faring much better this year with a 14-8 record, having reached the semifinals at Tokyo and quarterfinals at Miami.

When asked why she would consider possible retirement at only 25, Myskina insisted there's no point in playing if she can't compete at a top level.

"There's so many things you can do besides the tennis," she said after beating Sania Mirza of India 6-4, 6-1 in the first round at Roland Garros. "I don't want to be in the middle (of the field) of something. I want to be either top player or just (do) something else good."
Hopefully she will make it to the YEC and will then stick around for a few more years. Nastya is presently 247 pts behind current #8 Patty Schnyder. A couple more titles will ensure that she gets in.

A good win overall 6-2 6-4 but with some twists in the end as USUAL
19-19 a good ratio
Czink played a risky game, 23-30 if I recall, tough opponent.
Good luck against Ivanovic now

Myskina - Czink: 6-2,6-4

Solid enough, 19-19 (Winners-UEs) is definately good, (3 aces again too), but a bit too many breaks for my liking, especially the end was a bit shaky.

Average Second Serve Speed 120 km/h  and it was even lower during most of the match :hysteric: - that could be much better, IMO.

Anyway, good win - now bring on Ivanovic - that should be fun (at least I hope so.)

Best of luck in first mixed doubles later today too. :bounce:

What a wobbly finish! Going down 0-40 in 2 of the last 3 service games, and fending of break points in all 3 last service games. Also wasting to mp on Czink serve.

Another win has to be good for the confidence though :) Well done.

Thauron

I don't know about that, Spunky

But I'd rather see her play only singles and only one doubles - I know she likes the doubles fun and it relaxes her and it's good for her morale, but both women's and mixed might be too much. But I suppose she and her coach know best what suits her.

Now 5-4 in doubles, Suarez and Knowles to serve. This can take a while, especially with today's rainy weather.

Yes, last year I watched on TV the mixed doubles 1r match at Wimbledon that Nastya played in pair with the German Michael Kohlmann. They won that match, I remember that Kohlmann played very well at net in the games in which Nastya was on serve, so he counterbalanced the weakness of Nastya's 2nd serve. Our girl was in a happy mood that day, every time Kohlmann said her something during the changeover or at the end of a point, she always replied him with a  .

Myskina to meet Ivanovic
By Matthew Cronin
Thursday, June 1, 2006

Two of the tour's most formidable brunettes will meet in a tantalizing third round clash when 2004 Roland Garros champion Anastasia Myskina and Serbian sensation Ana Ivanovic scored quick wins on Thursday.

Myskina dilled Melinda Czink 6-2 6-4 while Ivanovic took down France's Emilie Loit 6-1 6-1.

Myskina hasn't had a great year, but has held steady in the top 20 and after reaching the final of Istanbul last week, she entered the tournament as the 10th seed. "The first set was great and the second was a little shaky," Myskina said. "But I wanted to finish the match so maybe I just started rushing."

Ivanovic needed only 47 minutes to triumph behind blowtorch groundstrokes, some decent defense and remarkable return. "Every match you are a bit nervous at the beginning and you try to find rhythm," Ivanovic said. "She can play much better and I was little more lucky. I used the chances I had."

The 19th seed stunned Amelie Mauresmo here last year in the third round and has steadily progressed up the ladder. "She is very powerful," Loit said. "She has a lot of strength, and I'm sure she has a good future."

After winning her first career title last year, Ivanovic has had an okay year, reaching three quarterfinals. While she's a great hitter, movement is not yet her forte and she can often be pushed out of position.

That's what the tricky Myskina thrives on. While the Russian isn't at her best right now, she knows how to fool the youngsters. "I know she's a great player and can hit the ball very well so it's going to be a great match," Myskina said.

Ivanovic said she can't afford to make a ton of errors. "I'm going to go and enjoy it and have her adapt to my game and not the other way around," she said.

A match of Big Ana (Ivanovic) versus Little Ana (Myskina) will be very interesting and somewhat unpredictable. I think it's an even 50/50 match at this point. But if Myskina makes Ivanovic work really hard and move her around alot she should win.

I share your opinion. I think if Nastya plays sensible tennis and mixes the pace and placement of her shots up, she will have the advantage. :wavey:

The key is for Nastya to not try and match Ivanovic's power. She simply isn't strong enough to do that. Get a lot of balls back and move Ivanovic around the court.

If Ivanovic is dialed in and all her shots are landing in play then Nastya really can't do a whole lot. Ivanovic will probably play an up and down match. Periods of winner after winner as well as the exact opposite with tons of errors. Nastya just needs to take advantage of the errors.
