Any qualifier should not be a problem. Then Dinara. Nastya leads 3-0 in H2H, all in 2003, 2 of them on hardcourt. Besides I think Nastya knows Dinara well from Fed Cup.
I want her to reach the QF first. Then Lindsay is another story.

I thought doubles with Dani, not Lena L., was interesting.
Molik has been Sveta's partner. They won the AO.

And I trust she will. No Yec pressure. Just getting back in the top 10

goldenlox
Oct 2nd, 2005, 08:13 PM
If she wins this tournament, she's in the top 10 next week.

Quarterfinal: Davenport vs. Myskina. Myskina has shown the ability to bother Davenport. This will be a good test of how well she's doing in coming out of her slump. And, of course, Myskina has to win it to get back into the Top Ten, while Davenport needs it to have any chance of staying #2.

Dementieva herself could be passed by Petrova or Schnyder (indeed, they could pass Venus with titles, but what are the odds of Petrova in particular winning here of all places?). But one of those two could also fall out of the Top Ten; Anastasia Myskina could pass them (and, of course, Serena Williams) with a title.

Nastya plays German Stephanie Gehrlein (number 225) on Tuesday, 4th on Center Court after a 1 pm start. So good chance that Eurosport covers it...pretty good chances.

Gehrlein beat Karantantcheva and Chladkova in the qualies, seems like she´s on a roll but normally should be an easy one for Nastya.

Russia's Anastasia Myskina advanced with a 6-1, 6-4 win against German qualifier Stephanie Gehrlein.

Myskina quits Fed Cup after Filderstadt win
Filderstadt Germany | October 05, 2005 12:34:46 AM IST

Anastasia Myskina progressed to the second round of the 650,000 dollars Filderstadt Grand Prix before announcing she would be stepping down from Russian Fed Cup duty.

''I've won it (the Fed Cup) twice, even if last time I won because Elena Dementieva helped a lot,'' eighth seed Myskina told reporters after beating German qualifier Stephanie Gehrlein 6-1 6-4 today.

''I'm really happy to have done that...these last two years it was two really great teams and the atmosphere was unbelievable. ''We have so many good girls who can play and who want to play so I just wish them good luck. I want to step aside now and let others have the chance.''

I think ol' Nasty might need a break. She really did carry the Russian team on her back for '04 and much of '05, at least until Lena D. went unconcious in the finals.

I suspect that Masha is going to be on the team next year, and Nasty doesn't want to play under those circumstances. Frankly, on current form, Nasty would not get much playing time--Safina appears to be the default doubles specialist, and right now you'd have to pair her with Dementieva.

Between Hopman Cup, the Olympics and Fed Cup, Nastya has more than done right by her homeland. Taking some time off to rest, recuperate and work on her own game is probably a good thing for her long-term prospects, and something she's definitely earned.

Besides, the &^%$ bitch gave the U.S. a beat down single-handed.

Cindy, she's playing Fed Cup since 2002 (had a brief appearence in a doubles match in 98 too) and won it twice. What more can you ask of her? She's 24. I would gladly give another Fed Cup title for a Slam.
Let's not make this a tragedy, because it's not.

"Myskina has done it all for Russia, therefore she has earned the right to say no," said Tarpishchev, who also serves as Russia's Fed and Davis Cup captain. "But I don't think it's proper to say that she quit the team for good. Myskina is the ultimate team player and if we ever needed her to play, I'm sure she would say yes."

I happen to agree with Cindy. But Nastya will do what she wants to do. And let's be honest, she wants to get her singles game back to the top 5. Nastya likely has 2 more years to play a high level of tennis and playing Fed Cup for Russia is very taxing on her slight of might frame.

At the beg of the 3rd set Anastasia had trouble breathing and took a break. Dinara also had a medical timeout in the 2nd I think.

The German Eurosport guys got the news that Nastya actually threw up right after she left the court during medical time out. I think the camera was still on it, she went out and if you look closely she bent over...walked back on court with a liter bottle of Gatorade.

Nastya already denied it in this article (http://www.mk.ru/numbers/1852/article62355.htm) :

(excerpt)

Here are the Anastasia words:
"I haven't said that I won't play for Russian team next year. My words were just misinterpreted. The question was : 'Do you mind to give the way to the younger players ?' I replied that I have nothing against it if our captain will decide so. As for me I'n always ready to play for my country's team".

OK saw the match on ES
First of all this damn surface is pure hardcourt. Those cannon serves were :bolt:
1st set
Nastya was broken in the 1st game. Lindsay was firing serves, Nastya could return them and that's about it. When she DID manage to return them it was obviously she was nervous, she was hitting the ball on the middle and Lindsay was moving her corner to corner. And she was moving well until it became impossible to reach it.
She wasn't moving Lindsay at all. You don't just smack the ball back in front of Lindsay because in the next second you're serching for it in the flowers near the stands.
At this point I was pretty calm. I knew she was nervous. Lindsay was fresh. 6-2 was a decent scoreline.
2nd set
Lindsay started missing. Her 1st serve became erratic. She even served a few DFs. She was playing careless. Nastya managed to get out of her shaky start, hit the ball from side to side, Lindsay wasn't even running after the ball. She was tanking the set.
I didn't notice that, thought she got tired, she was missing a lot and I was happy.
3rd set
The 3rd one was a mirror image of the 1st. Serve was back in full power. Back to the drawing board for Nastya. She had no solutions to Lindsay's cannon. It was just a matter of time.

I am not very happy about Nastya's game. Her confidence is still not there. You have to go for it. Where are the dropshots? Lindsay is allergic to them. I think I saw one. And it was horrible. Lindsay managed to make a winner out of it. Net play? None. And she's playing doubles. For what? For fun? For the money?
It was up to Davenport today. If she had played lousy Nastya would have won. That's all there is to say.

I know Moscow's surface is slower, much slower. Hopefully she will take advantage of that. I see no real threats on the entry list. Maybe just Momo.
Good luck ;)

I am pretty confident about Nastya...there are always two ways to figure out Nastya´s confidence level on court: The quality of her forehand and second serve. Her forehand was great this week. Compare it to the one earlier the year and there´s a HUGE difference. Second serve still sucks but well...maybe next time she could just hold the ball in her hand and throw it over the net, might be faster;)

Looking forward to Moscow draw. Should be a good tourney for her.

That´s good that they both reached the finals. It´s well known how important the doubles have been for her this year. In an Eurosport interview (for those who don´t get the channel), she said in an interview that it was the mixed doubles at the French Open which had brought back the fun in tennis for her. She was glad she listened to her coach back then who tried to convince her of just playing doubles. Good idea;)

Should be a clean winner tomorrow!

From TR.net (listing of "FAMED" and "FLAMED" players):

FAMED:
Anastasia Myskina: You could argue that her losses in the Fed Cup final were major setbacks, but, if you look at her play since she collapsed at Roland Garros, she's getting gradually better every week. Expect a Top-10 finish from Russia's smartest player.

Couldn´t have said it better...

The virus should be ok, the one/two days virus is going around here in Germany. It´s not nice (speaking from experience) but it´s not that bad. Think it´s the weather...been pretty weird lately, like a rollercoaster-ride;)

Doubles vs. Schiavone/Peschke. Should be an easy one for Nike´s dreamteam.

BTW: She could also start on Wednesday in Moscow. Filderstadt also let Groenefeld start on Wednesday this week. You gotta be nice towards your own countrywomen/men.

Oct 9th, 2005, 02:05 PM
In my opinion she´s playing great tennis again. I mean she was weakened by her illness and obviously she was the hardest opponent Davenport had the whole week. I am sure everyone who watched the matches are the same opinion.

She´s definetly on her way back up and I think playing doubles is not such a bad idea. Maybe let them play doubles on tuesday so that she can adjust to the court and everything again. I don´t see a problem here with getting tired. Yes, she plays Zurich too and then a smaller tourney but that´s it for the year and I think playing more matches is good for her confidence level in order to let her have a good start into the new season.

Actually, I am more worried about Justine...hasn´t happened in a while now. So I guess this is a good sign. I am really enjoying Nastya´s game right now. Last time I had fun watching her matches without crumbling and headshaking was like at the YEC last year.

I am pretty optimistic. Play a few more matches, try to do the best she can and then have a nice holiday. 2006 will be a very good year, I can smell it;)

Nastya´s so-called "official" site is still to come...just like it´s "coming" since one and a half year now :tape:

I am still asking myself if Nastya thinks that this site is up or if she thinks that a-m.com or myskina.com is her official site.

According to Nastya, it was the doubles success at the French Open which brought back the fun for her this year. She enjoys playing doubles, it´s important for a player to have something less stressful and besides Nastya loves team competition. I don´t mind her playing doubles at all, especially because there are just two tourneys left this year (not counting the Tier III or whatever that is). I think I said that already.

Everything will be fine :wavey:

They should, she deserves that right...no wait...it´s more like mandatory. I can´t even imagine how much Nastya (and every other Russian) hates all the attention Maria gets. I seriously want to see a Nastya-Maria final with Nastya winning of course. It´s the ultimate! Either Maria going out in round two (good laugh) or her losing to Nastya in the finals.

It is the first set tiebreak between Nastya and Davenport. Its running time is 6:18 which seemed remarkably long for a tiebreak. I guess I just never realized tiebreaks lasted that long. Maggie´s game is really annoying and thus so effective. Really glad Nastya made it through, also weirdly, I never doubted her winning throughout the whole match.

I´ve put my 15 v-bet dollars on Groenefeld, she´s gotta win this cause I would get 8.5 that much out of it
Annoying? Why don't you simply admit that Maggie played very well and Myskina is still playing sluggish... :p

Because Maggie´s game (just read my post more accurately please) is one of the most annoying on the tour cause it´s damn smart. She can mix up the pace tremendously and also has a huge variaty of different shots. It´s amazing. She´s a better tactician than Nastya and no one likes to play her.

Basically that´s what I wanted to say...but well, you like to see me as the hating-poster, so go on;)

It's not variaty, it's variety  sorry if i misunderstood you(annoying)... but the main problem there was Nastya poor playing;)

You think so? In my opinion Maggie clearly dictated play in the first set and Nastya just didn´t manage to play her own game because of that. Of course she also hit a tremendous amount of errors but overall it was Maggie beating Nastya in the first set. Are you underrating Maggie´s ablities or am I overrating Nastya´s game??? Overrating Maggie and underrating Nastya???

I don´t know what it is Cerbero, but we are so not on the same level of mind, speech, thoughts...I am sure what you´re saying is right but huh? I will just give up talking to you from now on

Just kiddin´... ;)

With the way Maria was playing today, she won´t make it far. It´s just not her surface to play on. It´s too slow, the bounces are too low and too unpredictable, she has to run too much on this surface.

nastya vs davenport 2004 yec. first set tiebreak. (http://rapidshare.de/files/6166767/VIDEO_TS.avi.html)

this might be a nastya video or it might be nothing. can someone could try to download it and tell me if it works? thanks in advance. :D
I downloaded it. Everything is in slow motion for some reason. The sound works normally though, so it's ahead of the image. And from time to time it jumps. I think you should experiment another format ;)

Glad Nastya got the win. I knew this would be a tough match since I believe it is Maggie's last tournament.

I wish poor Anna-Lena didn't get hurt. I would have loved to see her pick up such a great win.

Momo is in deep trouble: 6-1 5-0. That would be good for Nastya if Amelie is out before semis!
Nastya's match will start soon and I have to go to university :bigcry: Can you believe this, I have no college all day till 16 pm and just when Nastya will start her match, I can't watch :fiery:
