Anastasia played 5 matches at Wimbledon. But not in other 2005 tournaments.
Anastasia has over 500 points to defend in San Diego and Montreal.
Sweden has very few points to offer.

It's her decision. Important is that she wins matches. No matter the rank she's still the leader of the Russian Fed Cup team.

I really love this pic nastya had been wonderful last year she deserves more than anyone else to be the leader of the russian team
I can't imagine this team without her and I don't think that tarpishev will not choose her one day or will prefer to choose maria...he seems to like her a lot and she really wants to play for her russia this is important I'm not quite sure that maria wants it too
anyway if maria is on a team one day nastya will certainly bear it so we can do it too but if she doesn't then...NO MARIA!!!!!!!!!!!

Didn't Nastya have a serious injury in 2001? She thought she might never be able to return to tennis? I know it was before she entered the spotlight - but let's just hope she never has a major one!

As for her schedule - I don't mind her not playing in the US. I think Nastya is happier not to. I'd rather she played in tournaments for the rest of the year that she felt like performing in. It's going to be a lean year no matter what happens (in comparison to 2004). I hope 2006 wil be her focus.

You know, it´s not really important that she crashed out of the Top Ten. I would be worried though if the cause of that slipping is still on but obviously her level has risen up a lot (how worse could it get anyway?) so it can only get better and I am pretty sure that she will find her way back. A decent performance next week in Stockholm could be a good beginning. Step by step....other players have done it before, so;)

Well I don't really care what she is ranked just as long as she wins. Assuming she is back to her old form or on her way back then her ranking will rise again. Nastya apparently chose personal considerations over rankings for the time being. I assume she has opted to sacrifice participating in some signifant tournaments to spend more time at home. If I'm right, she will never regret this decision.

Maybe she'll be able to have her cake and eat it too by winning the U.S. Open and thus restoring herself to the top ten where she belongs. Wouldn't that be nice?

Sania-Myskina tango in Kolkata
NEW DELHI, AUG 1 (PTI)

After pairing up with Mary Pierce, Sania Mirza is likely to share the same side of the net with another French Open winner, Anastasia Myskina, at the inaugural USD 170,000 Sunfeast Open women's tennis event to be held in Kolkata next month.

Myskina, the 2004 French Open titlist, will be the latest addition to the list of Grand Slam champions to have played on Indian soil in a professional event after she confirmed her participation in the Tier 3 event scheduled for September 19-25.

Boris Becker, Patrick Rafter and Carlos Moya, past men's Grand Slam champions, have played at the ATP Tour event in Chennai.

Among women, Mary Pierce and the legendary Martina Navratilova wielded the racquet at the WTA Tour event in Hyderabad in the recent past.

Myskina was the first Russian woman to win a Grand Slam title and has been ranked as high as number two not too long ago. Her career earnings total over USD 4.4 million.

She also led Russia to Fed Cup victory in 2004.

"This will be my first visit to India and I am really excited to be part of this event," Myskina said in a statement by Globosport, organisers of the event.

Grand Slam champion Mahesh Bhupathi, Managing Director of Globosport, said "the WTA Tour is presently dominated by amazing Russians and Myskina was the first female Russian player who started this trend with her victory in French Open 2004.

This is right after Fed Cup, marking her indoor season debut. A tier III.

This article sounds quite sure Anastasia and Mirza will play doubles. Could be part of a deal. I hope Nastya does well. Calcutta; Stockholm..........trying out some new things this year.

I thought with that RG draw, she would start winning. But it happened at Wimbledon instead.
All the top players saw Sharapova go play those little tournaments last year.

I remember thinking she might actually make the quarterfinals at RG. Then I'm watching her match which ESPN shockingly showed and I immediately knew she was going to lose. At least she looked hot in her outfit. The match itself was atrocious.

I agree with LuCaS in that I'm hoping she can win her 1st round match at US Open b/c I'm not too confident she will.

This hasn't been a normal year for her. I believe her emotions are both her best friend and her worst enemy on the court. Everyone now knows a little bit about her mother, but I think we can't possibly know or imagine with any clarity what she's been going through this year. It seemed like she was just free-falling leading up to R.G. I wanted to cry just watching her out on the court. No spirit, no fight, just apparant sadness and resignation. It appears that R.G. was when she bottomed out. It looks and sounds like she has placed her career at less than her number one priority for the time being. She isn't playing in the tier I events now because they're all in the U.S. and she doesn't want to be so far from home. She can slip in and out of shorter, lower tier tournaments just to keep from being entirely idle and spend more time at home. At least that's my theory.

Whether I'm right or wrong, it hurts to see her struggle. I look forward to when she is back with her old fighting spirit. It's just a matter of time.

You should not worry about that. Nastya reached the status when rankings are no longer important. Belgians were ranked low just few months ago.. Willies were ranked outside of Top 10 not long ago.. Forget about rankings, Nastya needs to get back her game and confidence, and with no points to defend in NYC she can bounce straight back to top 10 very soon.

Playing Stokholm might be a good idea. The title there would be nice..Nastya needs a title this year to start with.

The draw for Stockholm is out. Here is Myskina's section of the draw:

5 Srebotnik
Sfar

WC Arvidsson
Strycova

Cohen-Aloro
Pin

Gagliardi
2 Myskina

I'm actually a little scared of this first round match. Not sure if Gagliardi is a good hardcourt player, I'm assuming she isn't due to her low ranking but she did make 4th round at FO. And quite frankly any player scares me at the moment as Myskina is more than capable of losing to anyone unless she is playing Fed Cup.

- I chose megaupload despite it´s rather slow speed cause there are people who can´t use rapidshare and on yousendit there´s a an download-limit per day, so deal with it  . Besides megaupload doesn´t kick it out after 7 days. But feel free to put it up anywhere else.

Three files:

Part I (2nd set Nastya serving for the set) - 7mb
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=39BBZV7V

Part II (3rd set 2-1 to 5-2) - approx. 40 mb
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=39VKCRNY

Part III (3rd set, Nastya serving for the match) - approx. 20 mb
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=43EDT3HC

Have fun (btw: first set was not that much pretty tennis so...)

And: A little bit fun...watching a brilliant mooded Nastya "dancing" around on court after an error and after that falling on her butt in her match against Sharapova San Diego´04. She was ok and she actually laughed about herself, not that I would like to see her injured;) It´s the most effective way to fall, right on your butt (I accidently tried it myself once  ). Hardcourt definetly is not healthy. She got really lucky that she slid her way down and didn´t get stuck on it.

Download it here (5mb) - yousendit;) - only up for 7 days!

But if she wins, it would be 2005 title #1.

Now time to focus solely on singles Nastya.

From a-m.com

The 16-year-old (apparently the tour gets younger and younger) is ranked at 136 at the moment which is the best ranking so far for the 2003 Australian Open Juniors runner-up. Kutozova made a giant leap in rankings after this year´s Indian Wells where she beat the seeded players Flavia Pennetta and Amy Frazier with a wildcard entry before falling to world-number-one Lindsay Davenport in the 4th round. Shortly after that she beat seeded Zuluaga in Charleston before falling to Davenport again.

Somehow she sounds like one of those players who can get Nastya into deep trouble. A first round opponent that no one wants. Gagliardi would have been easier for sure.

I'd much rather she played Gagliardi. Kutuzova is one of these young players with nothing to lose and Anastasia will need to be concentrated from the start.

Damn did Gagliardi withdraw? Kutuzova could be trouble is Myskina's head isn't in it.

Sharapova and Myskina once worked out on the same court with Lansdorp, but they were never close. Myskina says she has nothing against Maria personally, but has engaged in feuds with Maria’s father, Yuri, which has affected their relationship. Plus, Myskina’s questions about Maria’s “Russian-ness” hurt Sharapova.

“I don’t have anything against Maria. She’s a great player,” Myskina told IT. “We didn’t become friends because of our difference in age. I’ve met her mother and she seems very nice. I don’t like fights off-court because we have to fight on-court. She’s No. 1 in Russia. That’s the tennis part. Off-court, I don’t think we can be friends because we have different lifestyles. She lives in the U.S. and I live in Russia. That’s a big difference.”

Myskina says she tries to separate her reaction to Yuri’s behavior from her views on Maria, but it’s not easy. Players’ attitudes toward their rivals’ coaches or parents can often get in the way of good relationships and that’s clearly the case with Myskina and Sharapova, just as it was when Lieberman convinced Navratilova to give Evert the cold shoulder.

Myskina was furious with Yuri during last year’s WTA Championships, where he reportedly made rude hand gestures toward the other Russians, cursed at them and laughed when Vera Zvonareva fell on the court. Myskina then made her feelings known, cheering courtside for Zvonareva against Sharapova, a very unusual sight. “I just don’t want to play with people who don’t respect me. I don’t want to play together, be in the same society with people who don’t respect me,” Myskina said at the time.

Consequently, Sharapova has yet to play Fed Cup for Russia and may never do so. Myskina once vowed not to play if Sharapova was on the team, butnow says she will reconsider her stance in ‘06 — if Sharapova becomes more of a “team” person. But she says she’s over the Russian-ness issue and doesn’t care if Sharapova has decided to live in the U.S., mentioning that one of her close friends, Svetlana Kuznetsova, lives in Spain. “Maria’s never played for us and we don’t know where her heart is,” Myskina said. “She’s never played team events, and if she did, maybe she would like it.”

Myskina will stick up for herself, but doesn’t like conflict. An emotional person, she has a hard enough time staying calm on- court without letting bad feelings get in the way of her tennis. “I don’t like conflict,” she said. “It’s too emotional. You want to prove that you are better and it’s not healthy for your tennis because you might lose easy points — you don’t like the other person.”
