I think things will turn for the better for Nastya very soon.. I can almost feel it.. Something in her looks, in her last pictures tells me that she might just be already be over the hump.. As soon as she is eager again .. beware everyone..

Hope so too, although I go the information that she looked terrible off-camera...nahhh...we should go day by day. :bounce:

She should have been playing Pierce in the semis.

"The fourth seed here, Myskina struggled past Maria Vento-Kabchi of Venezuela with a 6-4, 5-7, 6-0 victory. The 23-year-old was bothered by flu-like symptoms but was upbeat on news that her ailing mother was feeling better back home."

Feeling better when you have cancer is not healing, however maybe it's not that advanced and she's on the way to recovery. I sure hope so.

I've seen this before. When players go through these bad slumps.
Vera is the same way this year.
They haven't played a lot of matches.
When Anastasia starts to build her confidence, she will be fresh, while other players are tired from a long year.
Eventually, Nastya will start piling up points.

How old are you? 20? How does it come you always sound so mature (well, apart from that little graphical interaction with Lucas some days ago)?

I am 22 and sound like a 13 year old (how I hated to be 13 years old!)...although I think itīs because of the english language. I watch way too many american popcultural tv shows . I think the rain delay will help Nastya, and I think she can do it against Vinci, she has had the chance to go off and compose herself and think about what she has to do to win.

Nastya still has the game it is just a matter of putting it out in the match, she beat Kim 6-1 in practice at RG, okay Kim wasn't in great form at RG and was underprepared but you'd think she'd have to have more confidence than Nastya right now and then Nastya went out and lost round 1. I think now that the French Open is over things will get better for Nastya, I think she felt a lot of pressure to defend her points there. Also with the news about her Mother coming out, I think that will help to as long as the media don't hound her about it. It will all come with time. Other players go through this, like Goldenlox said Vera, I think Nastya's year is similar to Kim's in 2002 it was derailed by a shoulder injury but eventually she got it all back together and I'm sure Nastya will to.

Anyway she's way off form, lack of good matches this year takes its toll, her footwork is pretty bad...she must have nightmares about dropshots.

Spunky83

Oh man...Nastyaīs first serve speed was like what? Max. 70mph? She hit the serves with no confidence and risk at all in order to avoid having to play the second one which is even worse right now. Tremendous trouble with Vinciīs slice and drop shots and just like Lucas said, the footwork was just ugly.

But still the biggest problem: Whenever I see her play lately, she just looks like a body running around trying to hit a ball back...no spirit, no motivation, nothing...those balls where she tried to play a lob? Vinci is 1,63 m "tall", Nastyaīs lobs are one of the best and the ones she played today were just horrible! Remember Moscowī04...YECī04...with lobs over Davenport?!? God!

Well...well...I just hope one day, Nastyaī03/ī04 will show up again;)

Captain Dementinator here from the bridge of the SS Dementieva headed for SW19

Oh dear ,well ,what can I say ,I watched Nastya Live at Eastbourne on court 2 and DID see flashes of 04 Nastya ,she was moving nicely and hitting some great forehands ,considering shes way smaller than Lena D ,she can sure belt them! so I am not suprised she bageled VK in the third ,she was going well there and she looked hot too! she really is a character and after the Golden Goddess I adore watching her at her best ,shes having a shitty year and shes got probs back home so lets go carefully on her ,plenty of players have bad years ,shes young ,06 could be a belter!

We are not having a lot of luck these days are we folks ,what with NAstyas slump and Lenas niggling injuries cropping up at bad times ,but tell ya what there is NO two players I would rather support ,they are both great characters and never boring ,I heard Nastya swearing away nicely at EB and found it strangely amusing WTA needs players like our girls ,they have thier probs sure, they are never invincible but my god they are the most adorable around!!

So come on Brave crew of the Gunboat Myskina!! DO NOT give up ,lets see what wimb and the US HC season brings!!

There is no way she can do anything at Wimbledon. Her form is simply awful.

She needs to take time off from tennis. Playing and losing in your first match does not help. Her mind is not with tennis so there is no point in playing right now.

I don't think she can turn this around by continuing to play.

On April 14th, I said she had another bad week, but at least she has fresh legs.

LONDON (Reuters) - Russian ninth seed Anastasia Myskina suffered a first round fright at Wimbledon on Monday before recovering to beat Czech qualifier Katerina Bohmova 5-7 7-6 6-4.

Myskina, the 2004 French Open champion, trailed 4-1 in the second set and 3-0 in the third before winning both to avert a second successive first round loss at a grand slam tournament.

The Russian admitted she had been surprised by the how well her 18-year-old opponent, who has never won a match on the WTA tour and was making her debut at a grand slam event, had played.

"I don't know if she plays like this all the time but I think she played a pretty good match," Myskina said.

"I'm very happy that I fought back. It was a happy ending for me."

Last month the 23-year-old Russian became the first defending champion to lose in first round of the French Open when she was beaten in three sets by Spain's Maria Sanchez Lorenzo.

Playing her first match in the main draw of a grand slam event, Bohmova broke to love in the 12th game of the first set to take it 7-5 thanks to a mixture of heavy serves and subtle drop shots.

Myskina looked thoroughly miserable and needed treatment on her serving shoulder early in the second set. The 23-year-old Muscovite was quickly 4-1 down and staring defeat in the face but some recovered to force the tiebreak which she took 7-4.

Bohmova, though, was not finished and she broke Myskina twice to lead 3-0 at the start of the third as errors continued to flow from the Russian's racket.

Under hot sunshine on court two, however, the Czech once again wilted with victory in sight. Myskina broke twice to level the score at 4-4 and, this time conclusively, broke again to love at 6-5 to end Bohmova's hopes. Myskina, whose best previous showing at Wimbledon was reaching the fourth round in 2003, faces Aiko Nakamura of Japan in round two.

A.Myskina - Day 1
Monday, June 20, 2005

Q. Did you feel at ease on the grass today?

ANASTASIA MYSKINA: Well, I was down a set and 4‑1, whatever, and then 3‑Love in the third. I'm happy that I went ‑‑ that I got through the match like this. And I think maybe if I play more matches like this, then it's easier for me to come back and play my best tennis.

Q. You had a very, very tough game today.

ANASTASIA MYSKINA: Yeah, well, I don't know if she's playing like this all the time, but I think she played pretty good match.

I'm really happy that I fought back and that was happy end for me.

9 times broken. That reminds me of last year. Kapros had 8 breaks in round 2.
But this section is great. Just Jankovic. Then Lena and Amelie.
Wide open for a semi spot. Any of those 4.

:D ...yeah, right. Thatīs like me getting a job easily after my Bachelor degree in a few month  ...for sure a very, very, very nice thought but you canīt calculate it. The opponents are a subsidiary matter, with her normal game, she can beat anyone of those mentioned players pretty easily (well...Momo could be tough), but now it all depends on how she can cope with her own mind. I think sheīs on a good track back but it needs a lot more time. I am sure though that she will defeat her next opponent;)

Thankfully Anastasia won her first round Wimbledon match. :) But I want to see an improved level of play in round 2. Ana moves great and plays great defense. :D She should be a good grass court player.

Yep, sheīs fast enough, she hits incredibly flat...BUT her serve sucks, she hates coming to the net even if itīs more than appropriated to do to and she doesnīt go for the winner. Sheīs able to do well on grass (eastbourne/birmingham finals) but she certainly needs to imporove a lot on grass, but I think it will come...itīs getting better (her game overall)

He was in Paris just like last year. I donīt know if heīs in London too but he has a job (knock down other people).

Btw...Cutie J and Stepanov never sit together courtside. Some reporters even said that Cutie J, Nastya and Stepanov had a nice fight last year during clay season because of their weird constellation but before Paris started Cutie J said it was all figured out, so...seems to be ok. All those drama kings and queens;)

Why does she have to play on court 13? I wonder who's playing on the bigger courts. :(
But maybe court 13 is better than court 2 'the graveyard' which she doesn't like very much.
C'mon Nastya, I'm hoping for a nice win :bounce:

Well it's definitely better than court 2 - but I'm wondering how they are working out who gets dibs on the big courts. It must be a one-Russian-at-a-time policy - and Svetlana would be the likelier choice I guess.
