There are some posters who watched the match. According to them (and my beloved stats), Nastya had a perfect first set. They said she was constantly hitting unbelievable winners during the first set and her serve was great (though not 150mph-great). The first time she lost a point on her serve was in her fourth service game, the time when she was broken when serving for the set.

Second set was weird...posters said, she looked totally out of style, but Peer was good.

However, it´s time for Nastya to get rid of one of the French Open-first round-nightmare-opponents from the past ;)

A player has a career year, and they don't have the desperation they had, which got them to their career year.
2005 is still young. 3 majors, the KC, Fed Cup. There's a lot of time left.

The problem is in head, an example is what happened in Athens, she's unstable, you can see other players with less abbilities bu always hungry for victory....

She will never win another grand slam. She is a train wreck right now. People talk about Dementieva's serve but I think Myskina's is worse now. She never seems to hold serve anymore. I no longer have confidence in her ability to win. She is still my fav player but I fear the worst.

I think she needs a new coach and a break from tennis.

I get back to my two ideas: take time out (I don´t care when), build a house out of wood and stay in it and get a new coach, someone who doesn´t like to be yelled at and yells back and make her train even though she doesn´t feel like it. She needs to change something. Of course you can say that it´s because she´s tired, but no matter how tired you are, as a top-player she should be able to win against lower ranked players.

It´s obvious that she lost the fun part about tennis....and my avatar is still not going to change.

Who knows when that point will come? It's heartbreaking for me the see her crumbling into 2nd,3rd or 4th round of every tourney. No good can come out of this. Take a break Nastya please. I want what's best for her (health is a priority) so frankly I don't care about the stupid rankings anymore. Shoulder problem solved....plenty of time to see how's life without tennis, and decide if you want to ever comeback. This should tell us how much she loves tennis. She will be back.
There's also a catch....Jens could get another girl to coach (I'm counting on this) and trainer problem solved also.

I don't know the exact nature of Nastya's shoulder injury, but surgery doesn't fix all shoulder problems. Kim had a serious shoulder injury in 2002, and was told shoulder surgery only had a 50% chance of curing it but to go through a strenous rehab program and strengthen the muscles of the shoulder and back and now it is better (not 100% but better than it was). And she could keep playing through it, so maybe Nastya is doing something similar.

I'm a little surprised by Nastya's form this year after I saw her start at Hopman. She was hitting the ball so cleanly in her singles then and I thought she was set for a great summer. But I think Nastya can turn things around and still have a good year and make top8 for LA, there are still 3 slams left and several tier 1 events.

She should have brain surgery... kidding...bad joke i know... :lol:

Seriously, I don´t know how she has the courage to play on. That "sharp pain" she refers to is a constant reminder of her shoulder condition (at least it has the effect on me) and if I were a pro and everything depends on my shoulder, I would be scared to hell. She has quite a good chance to have a complete tear and that would keep her off for more than a year. Of course it´s hard to comeback but still it´s even harder to "lose" your whole shoulder. It only gets worse...

Yeah, but her draw isn´t easy at all imo (with Nastya 2004 it would be easy) but now THIS ONE is pretty hard and Vaidisova is one of those super trouble makers like Ivanovic, Golovin...young and dangerous :eek: :lol: Schnyder is pretty good on clay...hard challenge.

I'm optimistic because Anastasia is #6 in the world, and she took this week off from doubles.
That, to me, means she knows she has to focus better, and get better results.

I want to stay optimistic about this draw as well - but I guess her performance on Wednesday will tell the story. I would love her to pick up her first Tier 1 clay title this week!

I am not at all optimistic about her chances. If this was last year I would be very confident she would get to the semis. This year I have no faith at all. I still think even with her form she should be able to escape the Vaidisova match with a win but you never know.

She doesn't love red clay. She has only had one good result on red clay. At the French last year. That victory is looking more and more like a fluke by the day.

She has been a joke so far this season. She deserves to fall out of the top 10.

I really think it is over for her now. I have zero faith in her game now.

She's not falling out of the top 10. Anastasia has too many points at San Diego, Montreal, Moscow, and the YEC.
But this year has been a disaster so far.

It is hard to calm down when she has done nothing but suck this year.

At least I still have Lena, Tati, and Justine to try and win this title.

I know she won't fall out of the top 10 but she should. Clearly she is not a top 10 player anymore. Not right now. Maybe never again.
