Hopefully Nastya has managed to regain her form in her break, cause she is going to need it.
It doesn't look like Nastya is going to have any gimmies in Miami. Mirza, Clijsters & Lena D. in consecutive rounds would be really tough as all three have been in good form.
But if you are looking to win a big tournament like Miami (and Nastya should be) then avoiding the half with Venus, Serena, Maria & Justine is definitely the draw you want.

I think a QF would actually be an achievement for Nastya (i.e. beating Kim). But you never know a victory against someone like Kim could be the kick start that Nastya has been needing to get the year going. And if she made the QFs anything would be possible.

But first things first Nastya has to focus and take care of the early rounds, hopefully with a couple of impressive preformances to get the confidence back.

I think Anastasia will be well rested for this. I think if she makes it through to the 4th round and beats Kim, it could be a turning point for her in 2005.

I think Nastya needs a match against Kim to be honest to re-establish herself this season. I feel she needs at least two big victories - maybe Clijsters and Lena D are the wins she needs!

Nastya still has managed to even play a player ranked higher than her all season. :o (i think lindsay is the only other player on the whole tour who can say that).

With Kuznetsova out, Mauresmo in dodgey form, and Nastya's record against Lena, this was a real opportunity to turn her year around with at least a place in the final. :rolleyes:

The worst part is she wasn't even a great clay court player until last year. She had only won once at Roland Garros until last year. I hope she really is a great clay player. I have my doubts though. I will never give up on her though.

Based on what? 2 victories over unknown players and a class-choke against Kim. She lacks the motivation this year. #1 is far away, the RG pressure is closing in. She needs a change. Another trainer maybe.

They're not unknown players to me. And Kim is a very good player. I remember the '04 AO, when Anastasia couldn't force a third set against an injured Kim.

I don't see the first part of this year as a terrible thing.
Anastasia has had time to recover from Fed Cup and the YEC last fall.
She should play better now.

Actually she was complaining about the short break she had with the Fed Cup matches. She said she's just human, can't play 100% every time, like a robot.
She could have taken a longer break (skipping Sydney and HC). Instead she felt like she had a shot at #1 and pushed herself in order to achieve that.
"Workaholic Myskina eyes 1st spot" Her only motivation vanished into thin air. I hope she'll find another soon enough.

She played Fed Cup and Hopman Cup because she loves to play for Russia.
That probably tired her out. Especially mentally.
These U.S. clay tournaments are filled with good players. Lets see what happens.

i was very impressed with nastya's play in miami. just a few less unforced errors and it would have been 3 sets against kim who is playing top 5 tennis. i think she has a good chance to win amelia is, tho i dont know her record on green clay. she's well on her way back to greatness she just needs to focus more and clean up her game a bit.

i think i forgot to metion that during nastya's 2nd rd match the chair umpire said "sharapova leads 4 games to 1". i first i thought i was hearing things, but the people next to me heard it too. damn maria she's chasing and haunting poor myskina, can't even get away during a match with another player.

I prefer playing on carpet, watching how the ball just slips away after you have hit it, is the best (especially when serving). Amazing speed ;)

What i meant was that clay is my favourite surface and i miss Kuerten and also Nastya last year at RG.

Petrova doesn't worry me at all. She falters against most top players. Also Davenport is not a great clay court player. I think Myskina could go far.

Petrova beat Serena on clay last year, Davenport won two clay tournamets too. They are dangerous players, Nastya has to bring her best game to beat them . :)

davy is the defending champ and venus won the other green clay event last year so the semi should be hard. petrova and martinez are beatable so id say anything less than semis is disappointing. in my humble opinion. :angel:

Ok, I just saw the draw and in my opinion she has a very kind draw. Of course it won´t be a cakewalk for her but still she has good chances going far this time.

Although green clay differs from european red clay, it should be a good start for her.

This is a great draw to the semis. And a chance to start closing the gap on the top 4.
