I hope Henrieta is better soon!!

Jun 26th, 2003, 03:01 PM
Nastya def Lina 6-1 6-4 :D :bounce:

1st Serve % 37 of 67 = 55 % 37 of 57 = 65 %

Unforced Errors 13 31

Winning % on 1st Serve 25 of 37 = 68 % 21 of 37 = 57 %

Winning % on 2nd Serve 16 of 30 = 53 % 8 of 20 = 40 %

Winners (Including Service) 14 14

Receiving Points Won 28 of 57 = 49 % 26 of 67 = 39 %

Total Points Won 69 55

Fastest Serve 99 MPH 102 MPH

Average 1st Serve Speed 88 MPH 91 MPH

Average 2nd Serve Speed 69 MPH 80 MPH

Good stats, the only bad part in there is the second serve speed, which is a bit pathetic imo :o

But still a good match from Nastya :) I saw match point (where she hit an ace) and she looked pleased, she smiled and looked over to her boyfriend/father/coach whoever it was and gave a little fist pump.

By the way, Myskina Lina.....I'm betting Henrieta wasn't hurt. She's been known to retire from matches where she's in a position out of her reach to win

Jun 27th, 2003, 06:33 AM
very nice win Nastya

i still love ya hehe

Well done Nastya! :bounce:

Jun 29th, 2003, 03:37 AM
Good luck against Jennifer! We all know you can do it!
And I like the new 'do.

Jul 4th, 2003, 01:05 PM
Nastya was really terrible against Jen
she was too much in a state with her bf to get really into match

only positive thing from my point was i got to meet Matthew Perry :bounce: :D
he was sitting two seats away ;)

Jul 12th, 2003, 12:27 AM
Nastya turned 22 on July 8th, so a belated Happy Birthday!

Nastya spent the past week traveling around the U.S. with the Springfield Lasers of World Team Tennis.

I think (I hope) it's time to ditch WTT and prepare for Fed Cup.

Jul 14th, 2003, 04:23 AM
Also a belated Happy B-day to Nastya
i couldn't get on all until Thursday last week

Jul 23rd, 2003, 07:46 PM
Hey, does anyone know what tournament Natsya will be playing next??
-Jessie- :bounce:

Jul 23rd, 2003, 08:05 PM
Next tournament should be Sopot

Jul 27th, 2003, 08:04 PM
Yeah, Natsya is playing in Sopot, Poland this week in the Idea Prokom Open, which is a tier III event on Red Clay. She is the number 1 seed and gets a bye in the first round. Go Natsya!

Jul 27th, 2003, 09:35 PM
San Diego has a lot of top 10 players. So skipping it might be smart.
This is a very winnable tournament for Nastya. I just hope it's the only red clay event she plays before the U.S. Open.

Jul 28th, 2003, 11:54 AM
Good luck in Sopot, Nastya

Jul 28th, 2003, 07:44 PM
I read that after Sopot, she will head to the US for the hardcourt season!

Jul 28th, 2003, 08:03 PM
good luck Nastya

she starts on wed in rd 2 against Birnerova or Gehrlein (my bet Eva Birnerova)
could be pretty tricky.

go Nastya go !!!!!!!!

Jul 30th, 2003, 02:37 PM
Nastya won 6-3 6-4 vs Gehrlein

well done and now good luck in QF :)

Jul 30th, 2003, 02:44 PM
Homework done Nastya

Jul 31st, 2003, 05:45 AM
Time for revenge Nastya, time for revenge. Petra got what she was not supposed to get at Roland Garros. No mistake this time, and no flu.

Jul 31st, 2003, 05:13 PM
Nastya retired :(:(
4-6 0-3 :(:(

Jul 31st, 2003, 09:30 PM
Nastya

Aug 9th, 2003, 04:08 AM
Well, I checked the Toronto AT&T Rogers Cup website, and looks like Natsya is playing there!!!

Aug 11th, 2003, 01:01 PM
Good luck in Toronto, show the form when you won your tourney's this year.

Aug 11th, 2003, 04:20 PM
I talked to Nastya for a while this weekend, she seems to be doing well although is still very tired and seems a bit overwhelmed with everything.. I didn't see her on Sunday before heading back to Montreal (have to work today), so I'll probably call her today to wish her luck.

BTW, she was quite happy about her first match (qualifier vs qualifier) :)

Aug 11th, 2003, 04:24 PM

good luck Nastya :)
make a good run for top 8 seed for US Open :)

Aug 12th, 2003, 09:14 PM
Nastya plays Nicole Pratt in rd2

Nastya needs to beat her to get top 8 seed in US OPEN and to get career high rank

Aug 12th, 2003, 11:18 PM
So, if Natsya beats Pratt, she will go up in the ranking?

Aug 13th, 2003, 03:34 PM
So, if Natsya beats Pratt, she will go up in the ranking?
If Nastya wins and Daniela loses.
Go Nastya! :)

Aug 13th, 2003, 04:56 PM
Nastya is down 3-6, 1-4. To Pratt.
Is Nastya going to lose her first match in Toronto like Sveta and Masha?

Aug 13th, 2003, 05:14 PM
Nastya's fighting back. Now she serves at 6-5.

Aug 13th, 2003, 05:27 PM
Nastya fought back from 1-5 down in the second. Now 1 set all.

Aug 13th, 2003, 05:28 PM
Nastya,keep fighting!

Aug 13th, 2003, 06:16 PM
Nastya did a great job today! She should feel very proud.
Now later today, Nastya and Vera play doubles against Nadya and Pierce. Vera, Nadya and Mary still have to play their singles match first.
So Nastya can take a shower and rest for a few hours.
Udachi Nastya!

Aug 13th, 2003, 06:26 PM
great job done Nastya :):)
PHEW, i had given up on her when she was set and 1-5 down

well done and to a new career high rank :)

Aug 13th, 2003, 06:32 PM
Great fightback :)

Aug 13th, 2003, 06:33 PM
Eggy,I had given up as well.

Eggy throwing in the towel on Anastasia!  For shame! For shame! ;)

Well done Nastya! :D

Aug 13th, 2003, 09:13 PM
Great fight back

normally I would wish her well for tomoz but im not going to do that ;)

Aug 13th, 2003, 10:45 PM
Good win Natsya!!! Tomorrow's match will be an interesting one!

Aug 14th, 2003, 03:48 AM
Myskina's coach (another Damir Dokic?)

While Clijsters, Henin-Hardenne and Hantuchova breezed through their matches, Myskina and Mauresmo struggled to find their groove. Myskina received a scare from Australian Nicole Pratt but managed to regroup for a 3-6, 7-6 (2), 6-4 win while Mauresmo made several errors in the first set before bouncing back in a 3-6, 6-1, 6-2 victory over Elena Likhovsteva of Russia.

Myskina was down as much as 5-1 in the second set. Her coach was so unhappy with her play that he stormed off the court.

"He was really mad that I was down and I just said that I have to win because I don't want to make him even more angry," Myskina said.

As she got further and further behind, the negative thoughts took over.

"That I'm going to go home, that I'm going to quit tennis, I'm not going to go on the court anymore in my life," she said of what flashed through her head. "Always when you're losing you don't want to play, you hate tennis. But as soon as you win, everything is really good."

In the third round, Myskina will face Elena Dementieva. The two are among several Russian players in the top 50 right now.

"I think it will be a really tough match for both of us," she said. "It's going to be tough mentally."

Aug 14th, 2003, 03:55 AM
her coach is her boyfriend

Aug 14th, 2003, 04:43 AM
well, what kind of support is her boyfriend showing her!!!!

Aug 14th, 2003, 06:27 AM
Great fight back

normally I would wish her well for tomoz but im not going to do that ;)
So am I! ;) I just hope they both play well. :)

Aug 15th, 2003, 01:57 AM
It's too bad that Natsya lost today!! But, I think since this is her first hardcourt tournament, she will do better in the next couple of tournaments!! Go Natsya!

Aug 16th, 2003, 05:48 PM
Nastya has a very tough draw in New Haven.
First round - Anna P. Second round - Vera Z.
Last year the Pilot Pen was Nastya's breakthrough. She beat Justine. Then Nastya had that great comeback against Hingis. That was on ESPN.
I hope Nastya's healthy.

Aug 16th, 2003, 06:10 PM
Wow, that does sound like a hard draw!!! And doesn't Natsya have a lot of points to defend at New Haven???

Aug 17th, 2003, 09:55 PM
Nastya lost 1st rd
3-6 7-6 4-6 :(

very disappointing last few weeks

come on Nastya, pick your level up :)

Aug 17th, 2003, 09:56 PM
Nastya lost, 6-4 in the third to Anna P.
But Nastya's draw was impossible. Like the second week of a slam.
Enjoy the doubles and rest up for the big one in 8 days.

Aug 17th, 2003, 10:05 PM
Imagine if she draws Sharapova in 1st rd of US Open...

Poor Myskina. Tough loss. I think something about her coach/bf has affected her game... :fiery:

Aug 17th, 2003, 10:11 PM
It's funny that you mention that.
I hope Maria and Dinara get good draws. Away from the other Russians.
I'm hoping for 10 Russians in the round of 32.

Aug 17th, 2003, 10:14 PM
Nastia :(

What a shitty preparation for USO

My only hope is that she hits a winning streak in right time. Hurry up, babe!

Aug 18th, 2003, 03:33 AM
   Natsya.....

Aug 18th, 2003, 08:53 AM
Disappoing loss
Hard to believe it
I hope Nastya gets a good draw without meeting Russians in the first two rounds at USO.

Aug 18th, 2003, 05:03 PM
I read on connpost.com that Nastya was upset with a lines call in the third set:
"I lost the match. She didn't win the match and the linesman wasn't so good at 4-3. I should be quiet, but I was really into the match and I wanted to win it, and I got frustrated."

Aug 20th, 2003, 08:54 PM
Nastya is the 7th seed and drew Nagyova in the first round.
I like this draw and puleeze take advantage of it.

Aug 20th, 2003, 08:58 PM
Nastya's section is pretty good
but lets take it one match at a time

come on Nastya :) time to find some form :)
good luck

Aug 20th, 2003, 11:01 PM
Nagyova...Natsya played her in the first round at Wimbledon too! Should be a piece of cake!

Aug 21st, 2003, 03:51 AM
Good luck Nastya! :)
Hopefully Nastya can get some wins.

Aug 23rd, 2003, 05:32 PM
Nastya's got a really, really good draw to the QFs :D

So annoyed it comes at a time when her form is really, really bad

Aug 26th, 2003, 08:25 PM
Nastya won after totally losing plot in 2nd
6-2 3-6 6-1 :D :D
next is Antonella Serra-Zanetti

good luck Nastya, got to FOCUS

the cat
Aug 26th, 2003, 08:29 PM
Why doesn't Anastasia play well in the grand slam tournaments? She has such a nice all around game. :D Nastya has a real chance to go far at this years U.S. Open. And I hope she takes advantage of this opprtunity.

Aug 26th, 2003, 09:18 PM
Nastia! Baby

Aug 27th, 2003, 12:30 AM
I expected Nastya to win in two but anyway she won.
Good luck in the 2nd round! :)

Aug 27th, 2003, 03:23 AM
On the US Open article, it said that in the 2nd set, Natsya just lost concentration and patience. I really wish she would stay positive no matter what!!

Aug 28th, 2003, 10:39 PM
Nastya is playing worse than awful
never seen her play so crap
making 1000's of errors and basic ones too

3-4* in 3rd vs Serra-Zanetti

Aug 28th, 2003, 10:40 PM
finally she breaks back 4-4 having dumped 3 pathetic easy balls to waste break pts
Nastya, come on now

Aug 28th, 2003, 11:12 PM
is this me or is Nastya's forehand super slow, she obviously strikes a better backhand. Maybe she's too tired, or pulled a muscle? even on the over head smash she can't get anything on it? If i was Zanetti, i'd go for her forehand all the time.

Aug 28th, 2003, 11:14 PM
Nastya got away with murder
she played so crap it wasn't real

picked it up just in time to win TB 7-6(3) final set

the cat
Aug 28th, 2003, 11:29 PM
That was a nice comeback win for Anastasia! :D Serra-Zanetti was serving for the match at 5-4 in the third set. But Nastya showed some real toughness to break serve and then win the tiebreak. I hope this is an emotional breakthrough for Nastya in a grand slam. And playing a finesse player like Serra-Zanetti can't be easy.

Well done Anastasia! :bounce:

Aug 28th, 2003, 11:36 PM
This is why the draw is so important.
And Nastya has a nice draw. Keep going!!

Aug 28th, 2003, 11:39 PM
Phew Nastia.

But she played horribly! She looked like afraid to touch the ball and was just putting it back to court. :(

Regroup baby and start playing like Nastia that everybody loves here around

Aug 28th, 2003, 11:43 PM

In what way is SZ a finesse player ?

Aug 28th, 2003, 11:48 PM
Good thing Nastya got a laughable draw, or she would have gotten her ass kicked so hard by now.

Why is she playing so poorly? She's not even playing inconsistent, like bad and good, it's just bad. She struggles with the losers of the tour, gets slammed by the first average player she comes across, and god knows what would happen if she were to face a top 5 player.

Aug 28th, 2003, 11:49 PM
Beating Serra in a 3rd set TB is not impressive... but a win is a win.

I'm not surprised to hear she played awful.

Let's hope she improves fast... because she won't get away with the type of play I've been seeing from her, for long.

Aug 29th, 2003, 02:46 AM
Here are some pictures of Nastya I took during her first round win over Nagyova :D

Aug 29th, 2003, 05:34 AM
Just two words. No confidence. Nastya has none of it at the moment. That's how it looked at the stadium. It looked like her confidence is so low, that she is simply afraid to go for her shots. Those "exciting" 50+ strokes rallies were just amazing in a sense, that they both were hitting the ball with a pace appropriate for a warm-up hitting. Just waiting who misses first. It was amazing that this pathetic crappy match had a Top 10 player involved. A top 10 player for whom in this match there was no an overhead shot that she would not missed. 90% of what she was taking off the air was going out or to the net. She has real problem handling high balls, moonballs. It's really amazing that she managed to make it to the Top 10 with such an obvious technical flaw. It's amazing that other players don't pick on it.

Interesting moment, I haven't seen her for quite a while, and I haven't seen Lina K. for quite a while too. Comparing to the last Opens, it looks like they switched the hair. Lina now looks like Nastya looked last year, and Nastya has it like Lina had it last year ( or maybe two years ago )..

Aug 29th, 2003, 06:32 AM
This is worrying. No offence to Antonella and her fans but her game is absolute fluff. I'm

ys is right...no confidence AT ALL.

Aug 30th, 2003, 08:06 PM
Nastya beat Sancez Lorenzo 2-6, 6-4, 6-3.
Good job! :D

Aug 30th, 2003, 08:06 PM
Nastya won :D :D
played alot better today :)

only saw set 3 but she played tactics alot better

well done Nastya :) 2-6 6-4 6-3 :D :D
week 2 again

Aug 30th, 2003, 08:09 PM
Nastya is fighting and fighting, now it's time to peak.
Udachi Nastya!!

Aug 30th, 2003, 08:51 PM
Natsya is playing way too many three-setters!!!
She will need to really do well and have full confidence against Pierce.

Aug 31st, 2003, 02:29 AM

Aug 31st, 2003, 03:19 AM
Nastya was named the Player of the Day

Aug 31st, 2003, 05:37 AM
might as well post it, the link might not work in the future.

Much buzz at Flushing Meadows this year has swirled around the sidelining of the Williams sisters and the influx of Russian players to the women's draw. This year, an astounding 13 Russian women were entered in the singles main draw. As of publication, only four remain.

Among the survivors is 22-year-old Anastasia Myskina, a Moscow native who stands at 5' 8 1/2" and has flown under the radar as of late, quietly racking up titles in Sarasota and Doha earlier this year. But don't let the mellow Myskina fool you. She's the top-ranked Russian player of the moment and is sure to generate much excitement during the months to come, especially if she can bear down and stick it out through the second week of the US Open.

Since 1995, Myskina has improved her ranking considerably. In '95, she was ranked No. 920; five years later, 58. Currently, she's ranked No. 10. A ride like that doesn't come from luck, it's based on perseverance and heart.

With a game that is well suited to hard-court playing, Myskina has consistently scored wins in 2003. Her repertoire of shots features a piercing two-handed backhand and a razor-sharp cross-court forehand, not to mention a serve that can top off at 106 mph.

Though much media hype has been directed toward both the spike in top-ranked Russian players (often called "The Russian Revolution") as well as 16-year-old Kournikova look-alike Maria Sharapova, few have realized the potential that exists in Myskina; she's not seeded No. 7 for nothing. With a career record of 111-79, Myskina has confidently made her way to -- and stayed at -- the top.

So far this year, Myskina has won 27 matches, including a foray into the quarterfinals of the Australian Open. However, her run at the US Open has been no walk in the park. She has pulled through in three sets in all three of her matches at Flushing Meadows this year. And the next few days don't offer much in the way of smooth sailing either.

Myskina's next match puts her in the ring with equally persistent Mary Pierce, who is fresh off a third-round win against Japan's Shinobu Asagoe. If she can come out victorious, she might face No. 2 seed Justine Henin-Hardenne. But Myskina keeps it all in focus.

"It's gonna be really tough because Mary [Pierce] is playing really well right now. I lost to her last time in Charleston. So it's gonna be tough. I just try to practice tomorrow."

And practice she will. In a head-to-head comparison, Myskina leads, 2-1. Win or lose, making it to the fourth round of the US Open will be another notch in Myskina's belt and yet another wake-up call to the world of tennis: Myskina is a force to be reckoned with.

And STFU ted robinson

Aug 31st, 2003, 06:06 AM
Two different Nastyas. One, who played in the first half of the match, when it was extremely hot,and who couldn't do anything on the court. And the other that resurfaced right after the sun hid behind the clouds, and who was a player I so got used to see and like to watch so much. Today match was a relief. She is OK. She can't stand the heat, it looks like that, but when it is cooler, she seemed to find all her shots right away.

Aug 31st, 2003, 06:27 AM
Yep,I had the same feeling. There were two different Anastasias. But I'm pleased that Nastya finally came through and she was named the Player of the Day. :) :yippee:

Also take a look at her interview (http://www.usopen.org/en_US/news/interviews/2003-08-30/200308301062274965365.html)
 The last question:'I know Maria better.'She means Sharapova but did Nastya realize that both Sharapova and Kirilenko are Marias? :p

Anyway,well played!
Good luck against Mary! :) :)

Aug 31st, 2003, 06:33 AM
In this article they talk about two different Nastya's as Dr. Jekill and Mr. Hyde. :)

Aug 31st, 2003, 01:17 PM
Good Nastya, again job done

the cat
Sep 1st, 2003, 03:28 PM
Nastya like her good friend Elena Dementieva, has to play a thick chick today. Elena plays Jennifer Capriati while Nastya plays Mary Pierce. While Capriati can run and cover the court as well as Elena, Pierce is much slower than the quick Myskina. I think Nastya will use her superior mobilty to her advantage and beat the powerful Pierce in 3 sets.

Udachi Anastasia! :bounce:

Sep 1st, 2003, 04:01 PM
Time for more, Nastya!

Sep 2nd, 2003, 07:51 PM
The rain came at a bad time last night :(

Nastya was leading 4-2, Mary seemed out of sorts

She had 3-0 but let the lead slip a little. She had a point for 4-1 which would've made it 5-1 a game later but she's still in front

Hopefully Pierce will still be uncomfortable today. I don't think she likes the rain. Then again, there might be no play at all today :(

Sep 2nd, 2003, 08:08 PM
One of the highlights of me visiting US Open this year was observing one of Nastya's fans over there.

That was a Russian guy with Russian flag, who was shouting things in Russian all the time. When she would miss he would shout:"Ничего, всё нормально" ( It's nothing, everything is OK ), if she would make a shot, he would shout :"Красавица!" ( "You are a beauty" ). The best one came when Nastya reached a breakpoint against MASL, when he shouted : "Давай, души её" ( "Com'n, strangle her" ). At the end he asked someone around to take a pic of him and Nastya, refusing to concede that Nastya would not go all the way to opposite side of the court just to see him. But when he realised , that Nastya would only sign autographs on player's side, without any hesitation he jumped on court ( it was on Grandstand ) and ran to Nastya, posed next to her, and the pics were taken. Of course, the next very second he was taken by security and we wouldn't see him again.

Sep 2nd, 2003, 08:31 PM
If not the encouragement in Russian, I would suspect it might have been JollyRoger ;)

Sep 2nd, 2003, 08:35 PM
he was drunk in both Nastya's matches (especially against ASZ) and disruptive... honestly, fans around him didn't appreciate his behaviour at all (even Nastya's fans).

he also looked like he could use a bath or a shower.

Sep 2nd, 2003, 09:19 PM
I don't think Natsya would like that kind of behavior either.

Sep 3rd, 2003, 03:00 AM
Nastya won the first set from Pierce, 7-6 (2).
They're on court 4 and it's 10 PM.
Udachi Nastya!

Edit: It's raining again. Nastya's up 2-0 in the second.

Sep 3rd, 2003, 03:59 AM
Pierce is so lucky.

Nastya better not choke now! :fiery:

Sep 3rd, 2003, 04:15 AM
Nastya better finish the job tomorrow

Sep 3rd, 2003, 05:56 AM
Strange match. Nastya started nervously netting few easy short balls in first three games. Then she steadied herself and was in total control, few points were absolutely brilliant. Mary doesn't have much to offer though. She is more powerful than Nastya, but she is not overpowering her. And she is much less mobile and consistent. Anything that drops more than 4-5 meters from her, she would not even try to chase. Nastya cruised through the tiebreak, and after that Mary asked for medical timeout and left the court for, like 20 minutes. I even thought that maybe that timeout required a surgery or something. After Mary was back, nothing really changed, Nastya was in total control. If it wasn't for long break, she would probably have finished it today. The way it looked though, I am not worried much, unless she has a big letdown, it should take another 6-7 games to finish.

Nastya played pretty well, she is definitely improving, and this could be good news.

Thanks YS, it's very interesting when no chanses to watch.

probably see yesterdays coverage sometime today...... i guess

Not sure. It was on court 4, not Grandstand. And it means "no chanses" for russians fans with tv sets but without flags .
Yesterday the best tape was Marat-Pete 2000. Marat was great in the 2 game of the 2 set. :bounce:

You are right. Court 4 has no TV coverage ( and no possibilitiy for it ). It is really strange. Even Schiavone-Sugiyama was on better court, and here we have a Top 10 player against a multiple GS winner.

I also found it strange to not have Myskina versus Pierce playing on 1 of the 3 showcourts at the U.S. Open.

But I hope Anastasia can finish Pierce off today and get ready for henin-Hardenne tomorrow.

Udachi Ana! :bounce:

P.S. - The USA Cable Television Network was interviewing players yesterday and they had a clip of Anastasia and she comes off as being as nice and likable as I thought she was. :) :D

Sep 3rd, 2003, 07:47 PM
It is me, or does anyone else think that they should've let the two women's matches finish before putting the guys on?? Now Capriati and Henin-Hardenne will get 2 days of rest, and Natsya and rest won't!!!

JLD, it's wrong for the womens quaterfinal matches to be started before the last 2 women's round of 16 matches are completed. Because their matche started first, here is a good chance that the Clijsters/Mauresmo and Davenport/Suarez quaterfinal matches will be over before the Myskina/Pierce and Schiavone/Sugiyama round of 16 matches are over. :( The round of 16 women's matches should have started before the women's quarterfinal matches started. Ana must be pulling her hair out by now. Rain delays are bad enough. But this is ridiculous! And there may be 2 more days of rain delays. I've never seen anyhting like this at the U.S. Open.

I just hope Ana can cope with the delays and finish Pierce off in 2 sets and then get ready forher huge quarterfinal match against Justine Henin-Hardenne.

Udachi Ana! :bounce:

Good luck Nastya

Sep 3rd, 2003, 09:25 PM
There's an article about Nastya in today's New York Times. Nastya got to the tennis center at 11am two days ago with Jens Gerlach, her German coach and boyfriend. They spent the whole day waiting. Nastya rode on a stationary bike at least 10 different times. She and Pierce got on the court after 11pm, more than 12 hours of waiting. There were 30 people in the stands. Afterwards, they ate and Nastya got to bed at 2am. She was back 9:30am yesterday. Again they waited all day.
The article says that at Wimbledon, Nastya can walk to her rented home.
In Melbourne, it's a 5 minute drive in a chauffeured van.
Here, Nastya would have to drive 30 minutes to practice, and then drive 30 minutes back.
Nastya spends a lot of the day playing cards.

Sep 3rd, 2003, 11:53 PM
They let Nastya go back to her hotel early this evening.
If the rains let up, it's only men playing tonight.
Nastya was on USA Network today. She said she was in the quarters of the AO, but never here. And that this is a big match for her.
Nastya said she was going to attack Pierce from the first point on, when their match resumes.
Vamos Nastya!

Sep 4th, 2003, 04:16 AM
It sucks that Natsya will have to play 2 matches tomorrow, assuming that she beats Pierce.
That will slim down her chance of beating Henin even more!

It sucks that Natsya will have to play 2 matches tomorrow, assuming that she beats Pierce.
That will slim down her chance of beating Henin even more!

Not necessarily. Lets be optimistic, if Nastya plays a focused and good game , she will wrap it up in 6-7 games most, and 6-7 games is really nothing, just a warm up. Normally players do not get any residual fatigue is they play less than hour. You play 40 minutes, you have 5 hours break, maybe even nap, and in 5 hours you are fresh again. But this all is not making much sense anyway. By current weather forecast there is not much chance for a play of any significant length tomorrow up to 5-7 pm. And if they get a 1hour window and Nasyta manages to werap it up, it won't be a problem for her. You better think that Henin hasn't play a competitive match for three days, that's an unusual pause, it could affect her in some way.

Sep 4th, 2003, 07:23 PM
That's a good points ys, I guess I just haven't thought of that

Sep 4th, 2003, 08:16 PM
Congratulations Nastya, she made it to the quarters she def. M. Pierce 7-6 6-1

good job done :)

Congrats! The long wait is over. :bounce: At least my prediction is right that she made this far to QF... but I want a better surprise! :D

C'mon, you can do it for us! :smash: Henin! Good luck Myskina!

I was just going to ask where's Ana's round of 16 match against Mary Pierce was. But I just learned in this thread that Ana closed out her match against Pierce with ease. Well done Nastya! :D And good luck tonight against a hopefully rusty Justine Henin-Hardenne. :)

well at least then the good news is she played only a few games so there should be no signs of fatigue at all.
in any case, good luck nastya :bounce:

Sep 4th, 2003, 10:19 PM
I'm glad Nastya got this done. It had to be very stressful not to know when you're going to play such an important match.
Now there's such a pileup of men's matches, I don't think Nastya-Justine will get on US tv.
Gehen Sie Nastya!

Sep 4th, 2003, 11:29 PM
Great job, Nastya :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

First two Slam QF's this year, not too shabby :D

Sep 5th, 2003, 12:35 AM
Nastya looked good in the morning.
She won USD 50 between 2-0 & 6-1 playing cards.
It's not enough!

Sep 5th, 2003, 04:04 AM
I must say, Nastya played amazingly poor against pretty mediocre playing opponent. I don't know what happened to Nastya. She should not have been physically tired. My guess is that all these rain delay and a match dragging for four days took their toll and she was very tired mentally. After all, if your muscles are not sore, how does it help if your brain can't control them well. Amazing inconsistency in shots, uncharacteristically poor shot selection and a lot of very questionable tactical decisions...

Still, her result here is not below my expectations. I optimistically thought that she had a good chance against Henin on her worst surface. But it looks like she cracked mentally from combination of magnitude of the match and endless wait.

Sep 5th, 2003, 04:07 AM
ys........ did u see this ??

Nastya  pretty disappointing ending :( :(

thought she could have come alot closer if not win.

Sep 5th, 2003, 04:11 AM
Natsya just made too many unforced errors today. She had her chances in a lot of points, but didn't take advantage of them...
She did play some good points though. Plus, she seemed kind of tired out there to me. She looked like she didn't get much sleep last night.

Sep 5th, 2003, 04:14 AM
Tracy Austin was totally criticizing Natsya, saying how she doesn't think Natsya will ever make it into the top 5!!! And how Natsya doesn't have enough weapons!! Shut up Tracy!

Sep 5th, 2003, 04:43 AM
ys........ did u see this ??

Nastya  pretty disappointing ending :( :(

thought she could have come alot closer if not win.

Yes, they showed 2/3 of the match. Nastya was very frustrated. She knew she had a shot, she knew she was not really outplayed and was just beating herself, but could not do anything, just spraying the balls, coming to the net often completely unprepared. Shre really looked clueless about why things do not work.

Sep 5th, 2003, 04:45 AM
they showed this instead of Jen in US

we got stuck with that

thanx :)

Sep 5th, 2003, 04:47 AM

No, they didn't. they showed part of it taped using the air time left after Capriati match.

yeah I expected it to be closer as well, but im sure not too many people expected Nastya to go the furthest of all the russian girls. Of course I'M in a sad mood she lost though.

Sep 5th, 2003, 05:38 AM
There were some bright spots, some amazing shots that Nastya hit, but for the most part it was a bad match on her part - her volleys were awful, she looped her forehand way too much in the first set, and her serve was a little on the weak side like usual. She also seemed a little slow to react - fatigue obviously taking its toll.

Her backhand is still as glorious as ever though. :hearts:

Ana looked lost against Justine Henin-Hardenne. :( But she had a good tournament to make it to the quarterfinals. :) Ana struggled early in the U.S. Open but found her form against Mary Pierce in the round of 16 and won convincingly. Unfortunately her win over Pierce didn't carry over into her match against Henin-Hardenne who just owns the Russians.

And I disagree with Tracy Austin. If Jelena Dokic and daniela Hantuchova can make the top 5 then Anastasia Myskina can, too. :D

Sep 17th, 2003, 03:47 AM
Last year Nastya reached the finals in Leipzig. She beat Kim in the semis.
This year Nastya goes to Leipzig in a battle with Alyona. After Leipzig, Nastya has very few points to defend.
Next week is going to be very interesting.

Sep 17th, 2003, 04:10 AM
Last year Nastya reached the finals in Leipzig. She beat Kim in the semis.
This year Nastya goes to Leipzig in a battle with Alyona.

What kind of battle? I thought Alyona isn't playing Leipzig..

Sep 17th, 2003, 09:23 PM
The battle for Russian #1. If Nastya doesn't defend some points next week, Alyona will open a huge lead.

Sep 21st, 2003, 01:21 AM
Nastya, with all those points to defend, is the fourth seed in Leipzig.
After her bye, Nastya plays the winner of the Lina match. The only time they met was at Wimbledon.
Then possibly Nadya. Nastya and Nadya split sets in Sarasota, then Nadya retired.
The semis would mean Kim, probably.
So a very tough section for Nastya.

Sep 23rd, 2003, 11:34 PM
Nastya plays her first match since the U.S. Open quarterfinals tomorrow.
And it's Lina across the net.

I think Nastya needs this match more. But I can't predict what these players will do.

Sep 24th, 2003, 06:08 PM
Nastya does need this match more
good luck to her but i still hope for a Lina win

Sep 24th, 2003, 09:21 PM
Congrats Nastia on her win over Lina 6-2 6-3 :)

Go girl

Sep 24th, 2003, 09:23 PM
well done Nastya :)
now keep your top 10 rank :)

Sep 24th, 2003, 09:40 PM
Nastya has had a pretty good year. Two slam quarterfinals.
But she needs a big finish to get to L.A.
I hope it's Nastya - Nadya next.

Sep 24th, 2003, 10:29 PM
I really hope for Nastya :bounce: vs. nadia but it will be too bad cuz one of them will have to go.

Sep 25th, 2003, 09:22 PM
Nastya is out of the doubles. She lost against Nadya, who she will see again tomorrow.
Now Nastya can turn all her attention to playing Nadya in singles.
This is a big match. And an interesting one.

Sep 26th, 2003, 02:47 PM
Nastya beat Nadia 6-7(5) 6-1 6-1
Well done Nastya! :)
Good luck against Kim in the semis!

Sep 26th, 2003, 03:00 PM
wd Nastya..

I'd be happy if she takes a set from Kim... Kim doesn't get bothered by Nastya's flat shot and will be attacking Nastya's slow serve. I'd predict 3 and 3

Sep 26th, 2003, 03:28 PM
Good comeback Nastia.

I demand a repeat of last year's SF now :p

Sep 26th, 2003, 03:51 PM

now do the same as 2002
beat Kim again

go Nastya in SF

Nastya's coming to Moscow in great form. Give Kim your best shot.
You did it last year, you can do it again.

Sep 27th, 2003, 01:34 AM
Go Natsya! Good luck against Kim! :bounce:

Sep 27th, 2003, 01:29 PM
not the best way to win a match...

anyhow, after her semi, Nastya is back to #10 in the ranking and close to Sugyama, #10 (25 or so points behind) in the race.

Sep 27th, 2003, 01:41 PM
I don't usually post in this thread, I like Myskina (But Kim is my fave).
But I just wanted to say that after watching this match (it is probably only the 2nd time I've seen Nastya play), I appreciate her so much more.
She's a really fun player to watch and the way she was concerned for Kim and talked to her after she retired, showed me what a nice person she is! She's defenitely become one of my faves.
Good luck in the final to her, she deserves to win! :)

Sep 27th, 2003, 01:44 PM
Good luck in the final Nastya. Unfortunately Kim retired.

Sep 27th, 2003, 01:59 PM
Congrats Nastia! :woohoo:

I hope nothing serious with Kim
I'm going to watch the tape

Sep 27th, 2003, 04:26 PM
well done Nastya :)
defended her pts and her rank :)
now go and win the final :)

go Nastya :)

Sep 27th, 2003, 07:09 PM

Sep 27th, 2003, 07:11 PM

Myskina, Anastasia - Henin-Hardenne, Justine

Sep 27th, 2003, 11:37 PM
I have to say I was wholy impressed with Anas performance today, I think it was good, okay she got lucky, but both she and Kim were playing bad in the second it could ahve gone either way in my opinion. As a Kim fan I would have to say, that Kim was lucky to get away with the first set! Nastya choked to be fair.

Sep 28th, 2003, 11:41 AM
Good Luck in the final, Nastya! Try your best :bounce:

I knew Nastya was going to fight for Russian #1.
Everyone can learn from her.

What a great week for Ana! :D Once she got the the semifinals in Leipzig I didn't want to post here and jinx her and it worked! ;)

Ana is proving that she is a very good tennis player who is very deserving of her top 10 ranking. And beating Clijsters and Henin back to back proves that Ana is a potential top 5 tennis player.

Beating the talented Belgian sisters (Clijsters and Henin) in the same tournament is one thing. But beating the awesome Williams sisters in the same tournament is another thing! I hope Ana has a chance to play both Williams sisters in the same tournament next year. That would mean she would have beaten 1 Williams sister in order to play the other! :D

Sep 28th, 2003, 08:00 PM
Great win Natsya!!!! YAAAY!!!! :bounce: :aparty:

I think what's most impressive about Anastasia's game is that while she lacks being a tremendous physical specimen blessed with tremendous size, power and speed like Elena Dementieva, she seems to be a complete tennis player. And Ana showed alot of heart too, by coming from a set down to beat Justine Henin in the Leipzig final. :D I just hope next year can can play this kind of outstanding tennis in a grand slam tournament.

Sep 29th, 2003, 02:44 AM
Did you guys know that Natsya and Elena are the only ones who has beaten Henin-Hardenne in 3 setters this year?
Just thought I should bring that up! :bounce:

Sep 29th, 2003, 03:25 AM
Fantastic win by Anastasia :) I'm so happy for her :D

Nastya has a good draw in Moscow. In this form she should get to the semi-finals without any problems. Then we'll just see what happens.

Sep 29th, 2003, 03:40 AM
With Kim on one side of the draw, and Justine on the other, who was expecting Nastya to win?
I was hoping Alyona's recent success would get everybody motivated. Then when Sveta and Lina went down so quickly, I was not confident myself.
But seeing Nastya results, I really believe all these players will want that same success, more and more.
It's going to happen. Too many good players, all competing against the tour, and against each other.

Let the KC begin.

Sep 29th, 2003, 01:22 PM
Awesome win!
Congrats Nastya!! :D

Stay strong in Moscow! :)
I hope to see Alyona vs Nastya in the final!

Nastya plays her first match in Moscow against Magui Serna.
Serna will make Nastya work for every point.
Nastya and Alyona are coming into the KC with nice winning streaks.
Udachi Nastya!!

Oct 1st, 2003, 01:50 AM
Good luck Nastya vs Magui on Thursday :)

btw, in case anyone didn't know, the tournaments Nastya has committed to for the rest of the year are: Filderstadt, Linz, & Philadelphia, and hopefully, the Tour Champs. Committing to Philly proves to me that Nastya plans to be there, because ordinarily you don't just fly to the US for one week.

This week is vital to her position in the race.

Oct 2nd, 2003, 01:12 PM
Nastya def. Serna 6-3 6-1 :bigclap:

Good luck in the QF vs Daniilidou :)

Hi guys :wavey:

I'm Naomi, and have to say I am now a fan of Myskina :) well not as big a fan as most of you guys I'm guessing. But after Lepzig when she showed such good sportsmanship towards Kim after Kim was forced to retire I have found how classy she is. Also how she beat Henin in the final talk about taking your opportunities :)

So you guys may see me around here to cheer for Anastasia with you :)

Hope she wins her next match in Moscow, and works on closing in on the 9 position. I think she definately deserves to finish top 8 at the end of the year, with 2 grand slam QF and three titles this year she deserves it :)

Oct 2nd, 2003, 02:37 PM
Awesome stuff

Oct 2nd, 2003, 03:26 PM
She won 6-3 6-1 :)

Oct 2nd, 2003, 03:42 PM

Rock on Natsya!! :D Good luck tomorrow girl!!

Oct 2nd, 2003, 10:57 PM
Nastya had no letdown after beating Justine in the Leipzig final. Only four games lost.
I so hope we get Lena - Nastya on Saturday.
But first, Daniilidou. Davai Nastya!

Oct 2nd, 2003, 11:28 PM
I felt that she played well, but she was like commiting suicide after every point! I dont understand why she played a very good match. I guess now she must just expect so much of herself.

Oct 3rd, 2003, 01:11 PM
Nastya was again awesome :)
6-3 6-0 :woohoo:  :)

Nastia about her QF and SF matches:

Surprisingly Nastya reached the doubles final. Vera/Nastya def. Martina/Sveta. They'll face N. Petrova/M. Shaughnessy. Good luck Nastya.

Oct 3rd, 2003, 09:45 PM

I guess she has more chance to reach the final then Elena, but I'm still hoping for a russian final :)

Oct 3rd, 2003, 10:00 PM
Good luck against Pistolesi! Stop her run of beating the Russians!! Go Natsya!

Oct 4th, 2003, 01:35 AM
Good win today Nastya :) Convincing scoreline.

That win was important - because Nastya has just overtaken Chanda in the race to the chase rankings by 4 points. If she can stay at that spot (#9) for the rest of the year, she'll qualify for the championships, because Davenport is not playing. Who knows, maybe even Venus & Serena will pull out. Speaking of Venus, Anastasia can overtake her anyways if she keeps putting in consistent, solid performances like she has so far this week.

Good luck tomorrow vs Anna P :D

Nastya convinced you to change your sig, right?

Oct 4th, 2003, 02:30 AM
Nastya convinced you to change your sig, right?

lol, that was just a joke :p (although anna and daniela aren't exactly brilliant players at the moment) i'm not a fair weather fan or anything. and then i got repped for having it (it was funny, apparently), and thats when i realized i still had it, so i thought 'oh i should change it'

Oct 4th, 2003, 02:44 AM
It was funny. But as Nastya kept winning, it didn't make as much sense anymore.

Oct 4th, 2003, 02:22 PM

6-2 6-0 against the wall

That was the smartest match by Nastya I've seen in ages

Oct 4th, 2003, 02:26 PM

Amelie has beaten Nastya the two times they've played. The most recent was 2002 Wimbledon.
No one thought Nastya would win Leipzig.
Here's a chance to show everyone who's the Russian #1. (For now.)
Udachi Nastya!!

Oct 4th, 2003, 07:07 PM
Fantasic Nastya. You can do it, book your biggest win so far in your native Moscow. GO Nastya :)

Congrats to Ana on making the final in Moscow! :) She took advantage of her easy draw. But now she will have to play a great match to beat Mauresmo who is bigger, stronger and faster than Ana! I just hope Anastasia doesn't get nervous in the Ladies Kremlin Cup Final the way Anna Kournikova and Elena Dementieva did. With the Fed Cup semifinals on the horizon, it's important for Ana to show Mauresmo that she can beat her.

Udachi Anastasia! :bounce:

Oct 4th, 2003, 09:55 PM
Nastya :)

Convincing score :)

Oct 4th, 2003, 10:24 PM
That was a really convincing win!! Go Natsya, take this title!!

Oct 5th, 2003, 08:00 AM

Super win, Nastia! :hearts:

I was so nervous watching this. Cannot imagine what she was feeling.

B. Yeltsin gave her multiple kisses and raised their hands together to celebrate ;)

Oct 5th, 2003, 12:05 PM
Some useless info: Nastia is 4-4 in tournament finals this year!

Boris ;)

Oct 6th, 2003, 03:10 AM
Nastya is not only winning tournaments, she is beating top players.
Tremendous results these last two weeks.
Filderstadt has an even tougher field than Leipzig and Moscow.
It will be very interesting to see if Nastya can keep this run going.
Davai Nastya!

Oct 6th, 2003, 03:24 AM
Yay Natsya!!! What a great win!! :aparty: Looks like Natsya's all pumped up since Elena took over the #1 Russian spot!!

Oct 6th, 2003, 03:42 AM

Udachi Nastya.

Keep the Russian streak alive.

Oct 6th, 2003, 03:47 AM
Nastya plays Stevenson in the first round in Filderstadt.
A possible second round match against Lena Bovina. Should be interesting.

Yes... 6-0 6-0 over Lena will be interesting.

Oct 6th, 2003, 03:51 AM
That's only if one uses Pistolesi as the guideline.
And one doesn't do that, does one?
If so, we'll lie down to bleed and get up again.

Oct 6th, 2003, 03:53 AM
Yes, but one is always negative watching her stupid favorite play stupid tennis and piss me off... while her opponent is winning Moscow, Leipzig, and could be the best player in the world now.

Oct 6th, 2003, 03:55 AM
So you want to be a frontrunner? Then you can root for the Yankees.
I like the ups and downs. I'm an Anna K. fan.

Oct 6th, 2003, 11:03 AM
Contrats Nastya on being the first Russian woman to win the Kremlin Cup!

After she won, Boris Yeltsin looked more happy than she did.

No, I'll still cheer for Lena. I just hate her because I already know what will happen vs. Myskina.

Oct 6th, 2003, 04:20 PM
I agree with you. I would rather have some sad moments than root for someone because they win. And that makes the good moments even more fun.

Congratulations to Anastasia on winning the Ladies Kremlin Cup in her hometown of Moscow! :bounce: She must be so thrilled! :D

Lovely and likable Anastasia is really coming into her own as a tennis player. And she's the best of the Russina's. :) Her back to back titles in Leipzig and Moscow prove that.

What the deal with goldenlox and AllyBaker and their "one" talk? But I like a good rivaly! :D

Hey GL, I thought you didn't like baseball. ;)

Oct 6th, 2003, 08:26 PM
Rivalry? She's my favorite poster.

Nastya plays doubles tomorrow in a rematch of the KC final, where Nadya/Meghann beat Nastya/Vera Z., 3 & 4.

But it's in singles where the race to L.A. is taking place.

Oct 6th, 2003, 11:49 PM
Nastya was really happy after sunday single final
and answered a lot of questions before th e doubles. She hadn't any rest at all. But she added few words on the Lina's page after Lena D.
She will be glad all of YOU at FC finals in Moscow.

Oct 7th, 2003, 12:52 AM
Congrats Nastya :D

Yes a rivalry, GL! :D You two were going at it pretty good! ;) Or so I thought. But maybe I misread the situation. :o

I had no idea Ally Baker is your favorite poster. Her 71 posts must really be good. :)

Anastasia is finishing the year so well. :D If she continues to play this well Russia could win the 2003 Fed Cup! :bounce:
