I like this pic. Thanks Nastyafan. :)
And it reminds me of "Kill Bill" :p
Fighter Nastya can beat her opponents like Uma took her revenge!Yeach that's a good comparison. They have something in common - maybe their eyes and hair-styles:yeah:
I hope Nastya has seen the film and will sabre all obstacles on her way to #1 :armed:

Yes their beauty. :)
I also hope Nastya didn't miss such a great film. The way Uma revenged can inspire Nastya!

alll these poems of nastya,
... and some are awfully bold.
some are of her winning,
... some are of olympic gold.

we talk of nastya and uma
... and the way they like to fight
is that because of the big old knife
... or their beauty that's out of sight.

i just woke up, i'm sorry
... my poem's they may quite suck.
even though i slept for hours
... i feel like a lost little duck.

so call me plucky or bugs,
... cuz looney tune is what i am
but if i just happened to see nastya
... i'll say "win the gold for us m'am"

If Nastya gets through, she plays the winner of Maria-Venus in the quarters, and Serena in the semis -

3- Anastasia Myskina (RUS) - bye
WC- Barbara Schett (AUT) vs. Qualifier
Jelena Kostanic (CRO) vs. Anca Barna (GER)
Chanda Rubin (USA) vs. 14- Anna Smashnova-Pistolesi (ISR)

The video and wallpapers are really nice. Thanks Ola:)
The draw is already out:rolleyes: and not the best one for Nastya - 2xWilliams and Masha in her half. Why her biggest rival for #1 always has the easiest draw.
At least her 2nd and 3rd round matches seem easier so I hope she will have time to adjust to the courts and weather.
Good luck in your North American campaign Nastya, please start strongly:kiss: :wavey:

Nastya's had plenty of time since Wimbledon, and I expect her to play well tomorrow.
She has two matches to make sure her game is ready. The third match is going to be awesome.

My favorite poem -

Nastya is steady. Nastya is smart.
Nastya plays with all her heart.
Nastya fights. Nastya is bold.
Nastya is going to win the gold.

I was not on Maria's bandwagon before Wimbledon. Now I think she can win 10 majors. So I'm easily swayed.
But I'd love to see Nastya become the best player in the world.
Win this, win Montreal, win the gold in Athens. Win the US Open.
That's asking a lot. But Maria is going to be a major obstacle for Nastya to overcome.
For years.

Maria has not overcome her first real major obstacle - her first serious professional injury. That still lies ahead. Nastya's first one took almost two years out of her career. Lena D.'s first robbed her of confidence for nearly two years too. Same with Nadya and Lina K. Anna K.'s first one ultimately broke her career.

Nothing's gone wrong. She showed up in England last summer ranked about #150.
Now she's the Wimbledon champion. That's how you win a lot of majors. Get good when you're young. And keep getting better.
An injury is the only thing that will stop her.

Everyone gets injured. And it affects people's career in different way. You might not remember that, but back in 1997 there was a serious argument between tennis experts - who is the future of WTA - Hingis or Kournikova. Some experts were saying, that Hingis owned Kournikova by then, while others argued that Evert also used to own younger Navratilova. Seriously, that was the discussion, no Williams in picture at all.

Anything can happen. But Maria has no weakness to attack. You have to keep getting the ball back.
And she is relentless. Every point she's focused.
I've only seen Anna since 2000, and I've never seen the player you're talking about.
I followed Anna closely in 2002. She doesn't have that every point focus. Anna is a beautiful mover, with a great volley.
But give me power and a huge serve. And a great return of serve.

"I feel like I'm really becoming homesick," Myskina said. "I don't want to leave home. I'm here for four days but I want to go home already. "

She misses friends and family and is eager to being a life without tennis.

"I want to do something else," Myskina said. "You have to find (for) yourself different things."

It sounds like Anastasia is getting sick of tennis. But at the same time, she's becoming one of the best players in the game.

I hope you hang around a while longer. Maybe win a few more majors.

Nastya is not impressed by the U.S. But take their trophies with you back to Moscow. And there are some good places to shop, when you get to New York.

I understand retirement. This is hard work. Both physically and mentally.
If you're not 100% dedicated, and motivated, this is a very difficult lifestyle.
I've always said that this is a great way for a world class woman athlete to get wealthy. But the goal for everyone is to enjoy their life. Not make yourself miserable because of other people's expectations.

I see Nastya is homesick. I can give some advice for NYC. I know little about San Diego.
You can go to Del Mar racetrack. Or the ocean. The zoo there is famous.
It's tough if you don't know anybody who lives there.
Homesick is just a negative attitude. There's always fun stuff to do. Don't lock yourself in your hotel room every day. Elena L. or Elena D., or some other player who plays San Diego every year. They must know about some local shopping or restaurant.

Old?

"When you're 25," said Anastasia Myskina, you feel like you're really old."

Funny she should say that. The French Open champion from Moscow is only 23.

Her point was that the traveling the WTA Tour players must do can age a person. Myskina won't promise that she still will be playing tennis four years from now, when she would be 27.

"Not all life goes on now," she said. "I want to go study design or something else."

Myskina admits she gets homesick. "I'm here four days," she said, "and I want to go home already. It's different here. It's a nice country, but everything is different."

At No. 5, Myskina is the highest ranked of the Russian women on the tour. Meantime, she is continuing to strive. Her goal, as she details it: to become No. 1 before the season's conclusion.

"That's what my coach keeps telling me, and it's what I want to do," she said.

She also believes she can play strongly in this year's U.S. Open, a tournament in which she has participated five times and never progressed beyond the quarterfinals.

"If I am going to be physically and mentally strong, I think I can do really well," she said. Before presenting herself at the National Tennis Center, she will be representing Russia in the Athens Olympics. "The Olympics are coming, and one of my goals for the year is to play great," said Myskina. "I really want to get a medal. I can't wait to play there."

I am glad that Nastya understands that #1 is realistic and is here for taking. She has three competitors. Mauresmo, who is a hundred points ahead but who is far from being a stellar player on US hardcourts. It's not her surface. Red-hot Davenport, who is 400-500 points behind Nastya. She is a threat, especially given that she won't waste her energy for Olympics, so she is in much better position than Nastya. Henin, who is approximately level in points with Nastya, and who is expected to struggle upon return. Overall very good odds. 1000 points on US hardcourts will do the trick.

Anastasia won't retire soon because where can she travel the world and make several million dollars a year in the process? If the grind and presssure is getting to her then she should reduce her schedule by a few tournaments next year. Roland Garros, where both she and compatriot runner-up Elena Dementieva were given hero's welcomes.

"It was a crazy week, it was really hard, everybody wanted to talk to me, ask me questions," Myskina said. "The week after the French Open, you couldn't play tennis because everybody was calling me and wanting a piece of me."

"Moscow is like New York," she said. "It's a great city. I love to be there and be with my family and friends."

The 23-year-old Myskina enjoys being home so much, she is considering going back for good after putting in four more years on the tour -- or becoming the top-ranked player in the world.

"I feel like I'm really becoming homesick," said Myskina, currently ranked fourth. "I don't want to leave home. I'm here for four days but I want to go home already."

In her eighth year as a pro, Myskina admits the grind of the tour has taken a toll. She wants to go off in a different direction.

"I've been playing all my life and there are other things that I want to do," she said. "I feel there's a lot of life to go on right now. I don't want to play tennis all my life; I've been playing since I was 8.

"By 23 and then you are 25, you feel so old and then feel so tired. I want to go study design or something else, because I know tennis is going to finish sooner or later. You have to find yourself to different things."

Those dreams seems to be conflicting with her on-court goals.

"You have to stay hungry," she said. "I will play my best the next couple of years for sure. I will do my best because I don't want to leave the court and be like a top-10 player. I really want to be No. 1.

And, will she keep her promise if that goal is reached?

"The time comes when you must move on," she said. "I could see myself retiring if I became No. 1."

In the meantime, Myskina will pursue her next goal -- winning a medal at next month's Olympics.

"Four years ago when I played the Olympics, I was really satisfied that I was part of the team," she said. "Now I really want to get a medal for our team, for Russia. I can't wait for it."

Myskina Ponders Early Retirement but Wants No. 1 First

By Matthew Cronin
********************

Myskina looking for number one.
FROM THE ACURA CLASSIC IN CARLSBAD, CA - Being in Moscow with friends and family for the past two weeks has given Roland Garros champion Anastasia Myskina a new perspective --- she wants to be home more.
The third-ranked Russian has grown weary of being a world traveler and sees herself retiring in four years. She’s downright homesick.

"It will be too much by then," the 23-year-old said. "I don’t want to play all my life. I may [retire] even earlier. Life goes on. I want to study design and do other stuff. I don’t want to play tennis all my life. I know it will finish sooner or later. You have to find something else for yourself."

Even though Myskina would rather be kicking back with her boyfriend at home, she says that she’ll put her game face on the rest of the summer. She knows she has a terrific shot at the Olympic gold, the US Open and the year-end number one, given that the Belgians are till on the sidelines, the Williamses are struggling and Lindsay Davenport is unlikely to grind thorough the fall Euro swing.

"I'll do my best the next couple of years. I don’t want to leave just as a top 10 player. I really want to be No. 1," Myskina said.

The good-natured brunette says that the Davenport is the player to watch on tour right now and seemed to imply that Wimby champ Maria Sharapova has an uphill climb in proving herself on hard courts. "Lindsay’s number one in the race and she’s the hardest to beat now," Myskina said. "Wimbledon is a great surface for Maria because she plays really fast. It’s going to be tough, but if she stays focused like she did at Wimbledon, she’s going to be great."

One thing is for sure: Myskina’s coach, the ambitious Jens Erlach, won’t let her rest on her laurels. He knows she has enough game to make a huge impression on US cement.
"That what he keeps telling me and that’s what I want to do," said Myskina, who will face Barbara Schett on Tuesday. "I have goals and until I reach them, I'm not going to quit. Right now I have to believe in myself. If I am physically and mentally strong, I think I can do really good at the US Open."

French Open Champion Cruises Into Third Round at Acura Classic

Third-seeded Anastasia Myskina of Russia advanced to the third round of the Acura Classic as she defeated Austria’s Barbara Schett, 6-3, 6-4 on Tuesday afternoon at the La Costa Resort and Spa.

Myskina, who captured the French Open title earlier this year, put away the first set in 35 minutes as she took a 5-3 lead and served it out at love.

The Russian, who wastes very little time in between points, quickly jumped out to a 4-0 lead. Schett mounted a comeback to tie the set at 4-4 as she broke Myskina twice.

The next game went to deuce four times before Myskina hit a forehand winner off Schett’s drop shot on break point to take a 5-4 lead.

As Myskina served for the match, she took advantage of three unforced errors from Schett to take a 40-15 lead. On her first match point, Myskina slammed a forehand winner down the line to wrap up the match in one-hour and nine minutes to complete.

“I was up 4-0 in the second set and I kind of lost concentration and Barbara started playing a little bit better,” Myskina said. “I’m just real happy it was in two sets.”

rtierment at 27? My heart wouldn't be strong enough to liv ethrough that. It's too early. 28-29 seems a much better age, although not much further away.
In the mean time, Go NASTYA!

PS: isn't it much better than they call her "good-natured" rather than "exotic-looking"?

You have to let Anastasia make her own decision. It's tough enough to make that decision without outsiders criticizing it.
When Nastya has had enough, she's earned the right to retire whenever she wants to.

Of course and unfortunately we can't influence upon Nastya's decision. We just express our thoughts and emotions. Today I'm satisfied with 27 years verge but it will be changed in 2-3 years

hey guys and gals!!! sorry i've been gone for a while.... all this talk about nastya retiring and her being homesick in the u.s. is very depressing to me...... :awww:

i'm glad she played well in her singles match .... but i wonder what's going on in her head these days.... seems like she's carrying the weight of the world on her shoulders ..... i hope she's enjoying herself whenever possible. she deserves to be happy (and i think i'd make her happy if she was near atlanta in the States... ;).. jk... well... sorta kidding... :) ) .... but she seems really lonely during all these interviews like it's Jen telling her what she should think....

but she knows what she wants and i know she'll do whatever she wants... but we all enjoy her here so much and we'd all be disappointed... kinda rought eh???
but we will root nastya on as long as we can and we all know she go all out on the court no matter what tournament she is playing....

So Go Nastya!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You're always our #1 and we'll support you every step of the way..... :woohoo:

p.s. don't miss your boyfriend too much... there's alot of scottish-english-canadian-american's that would be more than happy to spend time with you no matter what time of the year or what tournament it was..... ;)..... :woohoo: :drink:

I was surprised. I thought with the Olympics and US Open coming up, she would be on fire. Like Dementieva.
But she said 4 years. She's not retiring now. She's thinking about life after tennis.

I think about it too. I want the players to find something they enjoy. Because they're hard working and smart. They're not going to sit inside and watch tv all day. They need a second career. Something important to them. Another lifelong passion.

No. 3-seeded Anastasia Myskina, the French Open champion, shook off the rust of a three-week break from competition following Wimbledon to take a workmanlike 6-3, 6-4 victory over Barbara Schett of Austria.

"For a first match, it was pretty good. I'm just happy it was two sets," Myskina said. "I've been practicing, but, you know, matches and practice is different. The routine is kind of missing when you're not playing, like, three weeks in a row. She was more ready than me, but still, I want to play, and I'm really hungry."

Momo is out without points here, so with one more win Nastya will be on an equal position with her for #1 after USO and every next win will give her an advantage . Nastya knows that the pressure's on her,
No "Lucky in Paris" is gonna occur.
Prepared to fight for that number 1 spot,
Our Nastya must do a heck of a lot.

It will start in San Diego,
... when the wimby champ goes down.
No pity for masha
... we'll leave that to a clown.

Then off to montreal,
... our friends to the north.
she'll win that one too,
... serena may get fourth.

Sopot may be next,
... tier III will be just fine.
Nastya will win that easy,
... while holding a glass of wine.

It all boils down to athens,
... the Olympics is where it's at.
I'll pull a tonya harding,
... beat her opponents with my bat.

i'm just kidding,
... the bat parts not true.
i'm not a violent person,
... (i'll leave that to you!)

gold for our nastya is coming,
... that is plain to see
but 2 golds for our nastya
... is what would satisfy me.

my poem has grown too long,

so everyone write their poems,
... because we are nastya's friend.
