I just saw this girl got a WC into the qualifying for Washington. She's only 14!

Does anyone know anything about her? Does she train in the US? It was such a pleasant surprise seeing her name in the draw.

I know nothing about her but want her to win more than anything. Hahaha Pame Valentini :bounce:

Jul 23rd, 2011, 08:15 PM
She's just lost to Whitney Johnson (USA) 6:2 6:2
I can post a link to her page on a Russian site

Jul 27th, 2011, 06:22 AM
Good try in her first WTA event
But she got her first WTA point :D

She must train in the United States. After all, she is one of Greece's most promising female players EVER, and is among the best U14 girls in the world, just a little behind Bencic, Ostapenko, Rychagova, Nefedova, and Konjuh ;). I think she has top 20 potential and I'm not joking at all ;)

1/7 on BPs
She could've even won a set if she converted on some more BPs :awww:
Still, she's only 14 y.o. :)

Some biographical info about her-All I really know is that she's from Zakynthos island and she still lives there, but she probably recently moved to an American academy somewhere in Florida since she played in Washington DC :p

Forgot to add: She had a win over Mariya Shishkina at the Orange Bowl last year :yeah:

She could've won her first title, which would've been earlier than Despina . I hope it is not serious, but it's sad since she would've won the whole tournament :awww:

Also reached doubles QF :p

Aug 23rd, 2011, 06:41 AM

No info about the injury, but Cisneros is ITF #164 so it's amazing to see how she is beating players like that at just 14 years old :worship:

I really hope this girl is good. Those are great results, so sad to have to pull out of a final after being a set and a break up.

I wish her all the best luck.

Well done Valentini! I'm so proud of her! :)

Hopefully in 2012 she starts improving in U18 ITF tournaments

I think her goal should be to just keep improving her ranking (IIRC she's in the 700s. I'm too lazy to check though )

Dec 23rd, 2011, 09:51 PM
Last ITF junior events:

Feb 24th, 2012, 06:41 AM
Won the second round 6-1 ret, but then only won three games in the QF against the top seed and world #123
No idea what that girl was doing playing a G4 in the first place :spit:

Also reached the doubles QF here ;)

Feb 29th, 2012, 04:51 AM

Great week :worship:
Shame about the final. She was probably tired from the long week she had and she had to play qualies too :(. She's now 0-2 in ITF junior finals after winning the first set in both of them. She really should've won that G4 in Mexico last year as she had to retire when she was leading by a set and a break . But another great week and this puts her in the top 310 and she will be the #1 Greek junior :worship:. She may not hold that position for long though as Kairi will be right behind her, but just amazing progress so far this year and she's still barely played! I was starting to doubt her last year after how poorly she played in those junior tournaments in the US but then she played well in the Nike Junior World Championships and Orange Bowl and now this year she has continued her good form :worship:. I'm not sure what her next tournament is but it would be pretty cool if she comes to Greece to play the 10K's in April on Crete, although it seems pretty unlikely since she's now based in the US. I definitely think she should have goals to crack the top 100 this year and get a WTA ranking, and she may crack the top 100 pretty soon, so maybe even higher in the junior rankings :)
Lost doubles R1. She would do better in doubles I guess if she had some better partners
Photo from Costa Rica:
And a photo from the Tim Essone U14 last year, where Valentini won the title and was featured on this year's tournament advertisement poster:
And from WTA Washington DC last year:
EDIT-I see that her next tournament will be a G4 in Turkey the week of 2 April ;). So I guess she will skip the first Greek 10K and play that in Turkey and then from there go to Greece to visit her family, spend Easter there, and maybe play a 10K or two :p. I also see that there are many G2 and G3 tournaments in Europe in April, May, and June and really nothing big in the Americas so maybe she might even play junior RG and Wimbledon :hearts:. But that might be too early for her. No matter where she plays, I am very confident about her future and I have a feeling its going to be a fun year in this thread :bounce:

R1: Rosatello ITA (#104) d. (Q) Grammatikopoulou GRE 6-3 6-3
She didn't play doubles :(. Her next tournament is a G3 in Bulgaria next week, and then she'll play another G3 in Bulgaria the following week ;)

Apr 30th, 2012, 05:35 AM
G3 Bulgaria:
R1: Grammatikopoulou GRE d. Vogelsang NED 3-6 6-4 6-1
R2: Grammatikopoulou GRE d. Boevska BUL 7-5 6-3
QF: Reichel AUT d. Grammatikopoulou GRE 6-2 6-3*
-Also reached the doubles semis and she's now at 287 in the rankings :)

G3 Bulgaria:
R1: Kalinina UKR d. Grammatikopoulou GRE 6-1 6-1
-Reached the doubles QF, so she should move up to ~275 in the rankings

Jun 27th, 2012, 04:05 AM
G2 Austria:
-Lost R32 singles to Komardina, a tough opponent . Reached doubles QF
G2 Austria:
-Lost R16 singles to Kudermatova, a tough opponent who recently reached the semis of a 25K . Lost R16 doubles :(
G2 Germany:
-Qualified for singles and lost in R16 7-5 in the third to Rodriguez (Mexico, #62 juniors), but beat Zhao (Canada, #25 juniors, #585 WTA) in R32 :clap2:. Lost R16 doubles though

Valentini's junior ranking is now up at #234 and I think there's a good shot she can reach at least the top 100 by the end of the year, she just needs some luckier draws ;)

Jul 13th, 2012, 04:40 AM
Last week Valentini played a G2 in the Netherlands, where she reached the quarterfinals. This week she played a G1 in Germany where she qualified with ease. Unfortunately she lost in the first round of the main draw to 14th seeded Bernarda Pera of Croatia (Junior #88, WTA #696) in 3 sets . But once again she has shown how much potential she has :D. In the same tournament, Valentini reached the doubles QF with Akkerman of Canada. Unfortunately they lost in the STB against the #6 seeded team, but still QF of a G1 is great, even if it is doubles. I bet Valentini could do much better in doubles if she plays with better players, since it seems that she always plays with mediocre ones. Anyways, Valentini is currently at a junior career-high ranking of 204 and she will move up a few more spots next week :)

Jul 14th, 2012, 10:04 PM
Go Valentini :yeah:

Richard van loon has some great shots from Biesterbos here:

Aug 30th, 2012, 05:48 AM
Lost FQR of 10K Netherlands to Y.Morderger (GER, juniors #336). Lost QR2 of another 10K Netherlands to Tigu (NED, WTA #1064)

Hopefully she plays the ITFs in Greece this Fall. I think she can do well there and get a WTA ranking hopefully by the end of the year :)

Oct 30th, 2012, 04:11 AM
Since then, Valentini has played a 10K in Belgium where she qualified with ease. In the first round, she played (2) Patrycja Sanduska (POL, #381). Valentini put up an excellent fight, but unfortunately lost 4-6 4-6. Still, a very encouraging scoreline. The fact that she played a competitive match against a top 400 player and she is still just 15 is amazing. In that same tournament, she rached the doubles final (!!!) with German Lena Lutzeier :woohoo:

A photo from the doubles final:
http://www.tennisnews.gr/images/news_images/Grammatikopoulou/2012/grammatikopoulou_open_9_ave_bnp_paribas_fortis_201 2.jpg

Unfortunately, things since then haven't been that great for Valentini. She played the 10K in Kalamata, Greece and qualified easily but then surprisingly lost 3-6 3-6 in the opening round of the main draw to Afroditi Latinopoulou (GRE, NR). I like Afroditi and she is a solid player but Valentini really should've won that match. Then, Valentini got a WC for the 10K in Mytilini but lost R1 to Kathinka Von Diechmann (LIE, NR, 17 yo) 4-6 0-6. Von Diechmann is a young player who reached the final in Kalamata so it isn't a bad loss at all, even though she is unranked at the moment. However, the scoreline isn't very promising and then she lost R1 doubles with countrywoman Angeliki Kairi 0-6 1-6 to Stemmer GER/Von Diechmann LIE :o. I didn't expect them to win, but the scoreline is horrendous. Then she played a 10K in Heraklion and got a wildcard but lost R1 6-3 5-7 1-6 to Natalia Siedliska (POL, #884, 16 yo) and withdrew from doubles. I don't know what to say but that scoreline looks like a choke . I expected Valentini to get a WTA ranking after these 6 Greek tournaments but now after the first 3 she has lost some matches she should've won...

Nov 9th, 2012, 05:15 AM
10K Heraklion as WC:
R1 d. (4) Maria Sakkari (GRE, #627, 17 yo) 6-1 6-4 :yeah::yeah::yeah:
R2 l. to Radina Dimitrova (BUL, #1042, 15 yo, eventual semifinalist) 6-3 5-7 5-7 :sobbing:
I wonder how many MPs were wasted in both sets :banghead:
Doubles QF with Curovic :)

10K Heraklion:
QR1 vs. BYE
QR2 d. (7) Karin Kennel (SUI, #1012, 17 yo) 6-1 6-1
QR3 d. Natsuri Chimura (JPN, 17 yo) 7-6 6-2 :yeah:
R1 l. to Hofmann (GER, #718) 5-7 4-6

Some good results, but inconsistent :(

Dec 10th, 2012, 12:26 AM
10K Heraklion VII:

R2 d. Malova (#739, Slovakia) 6-1 6-3
QF l. to Kocher (#1016, Switzerland) 1-6 3-6
Great tournament. Shame it had to end in the QF in a match where she was expected to win after her incredible first two rounds, but Kocher eventually reached the final.

Doubles R1 with Sagitova (KAZ) l. to Christopoulou GRE/Stefanou GRE 3-6 3-6

^Thanks. Too bad they are very brief. The only other videos we have of her are from U14s years ago :o

10K Antalya:

R1 l. to (Q) Frech POL (NR, 14 yo) 5-7 1-6

Really an amazing win over Bara, but disappointing that she couldn't get past Frech in R1. She breezed through qualies but then she folded when there were ranking points on the line :sobbing:

10K Antalya:
QR2 d. Chernetsova BLR (NR) 4-6 6-1 6-4
QR3 d. Bolsova MDA (NR, junior #109, 15 yo) 6-3 6-1
R1 d. Moura POR (#873, 19 yo) 6-4 6-2 :woohoo:
R2 l. to (3) Shinikova BUL (#375, 21 yo, eventual finalist) 6-7 3-6
And reached doubles QF with Potocnik (SLO)! Great week! Secured a WTA ranking in singles AND doubles and will now have a lot less pressure on her. Also now it will be much easier for her to enter pro tournaments!

Very encouraging that she is posting great results, and a very respectable scoreline against Shinikova :yeah:

She will start her 2013 season playing some junior tournaments, can't wait! ;)
First one is a G1 in the Czech Republic during the first week of the AO :bounce:
Strangely, she didn't enter the AO even though she would've been in qualies

Dec 31st, 2012, 11:53 PM
And there are 2 more videos in addition to the brief ones posted by
Kutuzova :D

Here she is training in Kilkis. Not sure where she is training in the other video. I'm really curious about her origins. Her last name sounds like she is from Peloponnese and she used to live on Zakynthos so it all made sense since Zakynthos is near there. But now it seems that she lives in Kilkis so I have no idea how she ended up there. She also trains frequently at an academy in Florida where most people who train and work are from the former USSR, and her coach is speaking to her in Russian in the video, so she must have some Russian roots. I've also heard that she speaks both Greek and Russian, and Russian isn't widely spoken in Greece so it's not like she learned it from school or anything since they learn English and German/French usually. Also Valentini is not very common, she probably had a Russian name like Valentina and Valentini is the Greek version of it. And I have no idea how she ended up in Kilkis of all places, since it's a pretty small city and they aren't really known for their tennis and the club where she plays isn't that nice

And some pics from Heraklion:

R2: (6) Alina Silich RUS (ITF #38) d. Valentini Grammatikopoulou GRE 7-5 6-4
Silich ended up winning the tournament, so not a bad loss
Also she played doubles and lost R2 in a match tiebreaker to Kasatkina/Rychagova, the eventual finalists ;)

10K Kaarst, GER:
QR1: (5) Ekaterina Alexandrova RUS (#787) d. Valentini Grammatikopoulou GRE 7-5 6-1
Of course Alexandrova ended up qualifying and being runner-up of the main draw . Valentini always gets tough draws :(

G2 Lithuania:
R1: Valentini Grammatikopoulou GRE d. Madara Straume LAT (ITF #385) 6-2 6-4
R2: (2) Veronika Kudermatova RUS (ITF #30) d. Valentini Grammatikopoulou GRE 7-6 6-1
Of course Kudermatova ended up reaching the final . It sucks that she gets no luck with her draws, but at least she seems to be doing well. She reached the doubles final here :yeah:

G1 Croatia:
R1: (9) Deborah Chiesa ITA (ITF #87) d. Valentini Grammatikopoulou GRE 6-4 6-3
She just can't ever get a kind draw :(. In doubles she lost in a mat h tiebreaker in the second round

Her juniors ranking is now down at 239, and she was at a career-high of 190 a month ago. We'll see if she'll continue to play juniors, because she isn't living up to her juniors potential so far...
Also her new career-high on the WTA Tour is 1058 ;)

With Sagitova:

10K Heraklion:

Also lost a close R1 doubles match. And of course Kalinina now is in the semifinals and will probably win the title. Valentini has such bad luck :o

 what an epic surname!
Saw her in Brussels qualifying... how come she got a WC??

I think just because she is a young player who had just won two 10K tournaments at the time. I don't think she has any connections to Belgium but I could be wrong.

Dec 23rd, 2013, 12:34 AM
10K Netherlands:
R1 l. to (3) Anastasiya Vasylyeva UKR (#431) 3-6 1-6
Well Vasylyeva ended up reaching the SF here and then went on to win a 25K a few weeks later so it really isn't a bad loss. This was a strong 10K ;)

G2 Netherlands:
She easily won three straight set matches to qualify, but she lost in R1 to eventual champion (5) Ivana Jorovic SRB 3-6 0-6. Jorovic is a rising star so it's not a bad loss. Unfortunately, Valentini lost R1 doubles in a STB. She just has such bad luck in juniors

25K Germany:
R1 l. to (WC) Natalie Proese GER (NR) 7-5 1-6 6-7(5) :sobbing:
Missed chance for 8 easy points, but I'll give her the benefit of the doubt since Proese ended up reaching the QF. Valentini lost badly in doubles though, so this tournament was kind of a waste

10K Germany:
R1 d. Rosalie Willig GER (#1191) 6-3 6-4
R2 l. to (3) Petra Krejsova CZE (#523) 2-6 4-6
And a walkover in doubles

10K Serbia:
R1 d. (WC) Dajana Dukic SRB (#1183) 6-4 6-2
R2 d. (WC) Milica Sljukic MNE (NR) 6-1 6-2
QF d. (6) Milana Spremo SRB (#671) 7-5 1-6 6-1
SF d. Vladica Babic MNE (#1040) 6-3 6-1
F d. (7) Eva Waccano NED (#793) 6-1 6-4 :aparty:
3rd ITF singles title of the year, and she's just 16
Lost doubles QF 10-8 in STB, but who cares?

10K Serbia:
R1 d. (WC) Nikolina Jovic SRB (NR) 7-6 6-7 6-3
R2 l. to Dunja Stamenkovic SRB (#774) 2-6 3-6 Bad loss :(
Lost doubles QF in STB again

10K Serbia:
R1 d. Cristina Adamescu ROU (#902) 6-3 7-6
R2 d. (Q) Marija Mastilovic SRB (NR) 6-3 6-4
QF l. to (1) Xenia Knoll SUI (#400) 1-6 1-6
Knoll was the top seed and eventual champion so I can't complain about the loss, but it probably could've been a little closer :p
Also lost doubles R1 :(

25K Bulgaria:
QR1 d. Victoria Ocheva BUL (NR) 6-0 6-2
FQR l. to (15) Gabriela Talaba ROU (#866) 5-7 4-6 :(
Talaba ended up playing a close match against Dentoni, but I think Valentini should've won it. But I'm happy in a way that she lost so she gets no ranking points and it won't affect her age eligibility restrictions since it doesn't count as a tournament. Otherwise, she would've qualified and probably lost in the first round and only gained one point. And she's already played so many tournaments this year and she's running out until her birthday in February.

10K Greece, HERAKLION:
R1 d. (Q) Dominique Covington GBR (NR) 6-2 6-1
R2 d. Sabina Shaydullina RUS (NR) 6-3 6-1
QF l. to (5) Laura Schaeder GER (#581) 2-6 4-6
Schafer ended up making the final, but still :(
And lost doubles QF 10-8 in STB :sobbing:

10K Greece, HERAKLION:
R1 l. to (WC) Lauren McMinn GBR (#1202) 3-6 4-6 :o
The only explanation I could find for this loss was that she was tanking so she could have room in her age-restricted schedule to play her home 10K Zakynthos but then that event got canceled anyways
Valentini was the wooden spoon of this tournament even though the was the second seed in the draw :tape:

Also, she got to a new career-high of #520, so she can play in the qualifying draws of junior grand slams if she gets to the top 500 before the entry cut-offs :yeah:
Her ranking did slip a bit since then to #552 but it's still great for her age. She was for most of thr year #3/4 for her birth year but now a few more girls have passed her. I think last time I checked she was #6 which is still amazing!

Maybe she should play some weak junior events and build a good ranking so she can play junior slams?

I've never even heard of her, and I wonder if Valentini had MPs in that second set :o

Valentini also played doubles (with Sebov) and reached the second round :p

Tbh I don't see her making it to the main draw but I hope she proves me wrong. I never heard of Mathis and looked her up and saw that she never had a WTA ranking but she has had a few decent wins and since Valentini lost to girls like McMinn, Proese, and Talaba recently, you never know
Abaza and Will will be tough for sure (no pun intended)

3-6 6-2 3-6 :tape:
That's probably the worst of her recent string of losses :help:
And she is still entered for two more 25K qualies tournaments in Florida. What's the point if she isn't going to win? Even if she was in better form, these tournaments have strong lists. She should just take some time off to train and get herself together again and then come back for Fed Cup next month

25K Port St. Lucie, FL, USA:
QR1 d. (WC) Madison Bourguignon USA (ITF Junior #87) 6-4 6-1
Really good for Valentini to win this match, especially since her opponent was pretty good :clap2:

One of TF's own was there:
. Hellas asked me about Grammatikopoulou, and from what I could tell, today, she mixed things up fairly well, hitting with variety (read: a mix of depth on her shots, some flat, some with medium topspin, and some in Julia Cohen territory), but the match was so far away I real couldn't say for sure how things were going. .

QR2 l. to (13) Jennifer Elie USA (#421) 5-7 3-6
No shame here . Valentini was much closer this time than when they played last year in Brussels ;)

That first win was really important, and this tournament was pretty good for her compared to how she's done lately :yeah:

(2/wc)Aleksandra Wozniak (CAN) v Angelina Zhuravleva (RUS)
(wc)Anna Sanford (USA) v Nadia Echeverria Alam (USA)
Brooke Austin (USA) v Jessica Lawrence (USA)
(15)Naomi Osaka (JPN) v Valentini Grammatikopoulou (GRE)

Naomi should be tough
She's ranked 411 and she's also from 1997. Actually Valentini was #3 from 1997 for a short while last year (only behind Bencic and Konjuh) and then Naomi passed Valentini in the rankings :p

Oh well, nothing to lose!

Jan 27th, 2014, 04:52 AM
0-6 6-7(5)
Credit to her for still fighting after a bagel, even if the scoreline suggests that she may have missed some set points
I believe her next tournament will be her Fed Cup debut! :D
And then she'll turn 17 so she can play more pro tournaments

Feb 7th, 2014, 06:53 AM
Her Fed Cup debut against Cyprus went very well :)
She beat Omirou (junior #689, 14 yo) 6-0 6-0
And then played a dead doubles rubber with Stefanou and won 6-2 6-4 :)

Next tie is against Moldova on Friday. Will be tougher but hopefully she can keep winning :)

Feb 8th, 2014, 07:27 AM
Won against Anastasia Detiuc from Moldova (15 yo, junior #801) 6-1 6-0 :D
Now 3-0 in her Fed Cup career :bigclap:

Tomorrow she'll play in the promotional playoff against Ireland! :cheer:
Best of luck! :)

Also the ITF updated her profile and put that she was born in Kilkis and resides in Kilkis. I know she resides there, but I don't think she was born there. Such a mystery . She used to live on Zakynthos and her Facebook profile says she is from Sochi which explains the Russian connection. Elena Vesnina is part Greek from Sochi and a lot of Greeks live in the Black Sea area and many of them moved back to Greece in recent years. My theory is that she was born in Sochi to Greek parents and at some point moved to Zakynthos and then moved to Kilkis, but I guess one day we will know for sure

Also I don't believe when the ITF says she was born in Kilkis because the ITF also claims Papamichail was born in Athens and she was born in Preveza which is not even close to Athens ;)

Feb 9th, 2014, 05:37 AM
Beat Jane Fennelly (unranked Irish girl) 6-2 6-0 and then played deciding doubles with Maria against Bowtell/Dillon and lost 4-6 3-6
Valentini played so well this week and barely lost games in singles, I'm excited to see what the rest of the year brings. I know she's going to play qualies of a tough American 25K but then she'll probably play the Heraklion tournaments in March and April.

Her birthday is today (February 9th) so Happy 17th Birthday to her and now she gets to play more tournaments because of the age eligibility rule :D:cheer::aparty:

She's the 14th seed for the qualies of 25K Surpise, Arizona:
QR1 d. Elizabeth Kilborn USA (#1242) 6-3 6-3
QR2 vs. Marie Norris USA (junior #239)
I have never heard of her, but Norris has recent wins over Jeukeng, D.Ivanova, Gordon, and Abaza

Feb 19th, 2014, 07:02 AM
7-5 6-4 over Norris :yeah:
That's a match she would have lost 2-3 months ago
Then she won FQR over (6) Alexandra Stevenson USA (#412, former #18 and Wimbledon semifinalist) 6-3 6-4
Obviously Stevenson is not the player she used to be, but it's still a good win for Valentini :)
I thought Valentini would struggle against Stevenson's serve (she set the aces record in Quebec City qualies last September, so her serve is still good even though the rest of her game has gone downhill), but Valentini broke her serve 6 times :yeah:
I followed the scores from 6-3 *4-3 and Valentini got broken so I thought she would blow it then, but she broke back right away and then served it out

MD R1 vs. (7) Eri Hozumi JPN (#174)
It will be tough. Hozumi has beaten the likes of Bencic and Tanasugarn recently, among others. Valentini has nothing to lose though :)

Hope she can do great things this year

Feb 22nd, 2014, 05:29 AM
4-6 6-1 0-6
I am so proud of her, even though she lost. She took a set 6-1 over a top 200 player! And the total points difference was 71-67 in favor of Hozumi, so even though there was a bagel in the last set, the games were probably close . Too bad she was probably tired since it was her fourth match in four days. This tournament isn't very generous to players from qualies when they don't start qualies until Sunday and have three rounds of qualifying. If she reached the final that would've been 8 matches in 8 days :o. Obviously she has a long way to go before reaching the finals of challengers, but that wasn't my point ;)

Mar 6th, 2014, 05:16 AM
She's seeded 8th at the 10K in Gainesville, FL this week ;)
R1 d. Steffi Carruthers SAM (#782) 6-3 6-4 :yeah:
R2 vs. Sina Haas GER (#581)
Haas is no pushover, she beat Naydenova a few months ago and pushed Krajicek to a third set tiebreak

Doubles with Zarazua (MEX)
Qualifying d. (WC) Hammond USA/King USA 2-6 6-3 10-7 :)

10K Heraklion:
R1 l. to (5/Q) Amanda Carreras GBR (#395) 6-7(5) 6-7(4)
Main difference was that she was 6/18 on break points and her experienced opponent was 6/6 . No secret that she has to start playing better on the big points
Still, encouraging scoreline I guess. Too bad that she has 31 points to defend over this month so her ranking will probably drop a lot :tape:
Luckily she should be able to bring it back up though ;)

She also played doubles and reached the final with Leykina (RUS) but lost 10-6 in a super tiebreak against the top seeds

Apr 15th, 2014, 07:53 AM
10K Heraklion:
R1 d. Maria Sakkari GRE (#566) 4-6 6-4 6-1
R2 d. (3) Polina Leykina RUS (#408) 6-2 6-3
Good win over the previous week's title winner :)
QF d. (5) Borislava Botusharova BUL (#481) 6-4 6-3
SF l. to (1) Tereza Martincova CZE (#278) 6-4 0-6 1-6
Really a good performance here. She's saving some of her points from last year. Martincova ended up winning the title and she only lost one set all tournament, against Valentini. She (Martincova) really has no business playing in a 10K, but once again Valentini showed how she can compete at a high level :)
Her ranking will probably take a big dip but I'm confident if she keeps up this level she will be back to where she is now and even higher by the end of the year ;)

She also reached another doubles final, losing 6-1 5-7 8-10 :sobbing:

10K Heraklion:
R1 vs. (Q) Helene Scholsen BEL (#1048)

Doubles with Dzalamidze again this week, and they already beat Kairi GRE/Leykina RUS in straight sets and are into the QF :bounce:

Doubles QF vs. Bacquie FRA/Brouleau FRA

Apr 18th, 2014, 06:20 AM
4-6 7-5 6-2
I expected her to win these first two rounds easier, but it's okay
QF vs. (2) Despina Papamichail GRE (#380)

They played each other here last year and Valentini won 7-5 in the third in a 4 hour match. Would be interesting to see what happens between the two of them this time.

6-2 6-4 in doubles
SF vs. (1) Schuurs NED/Versteeg NED

Apr 23rd, 2014, 03:47 AM
7-5 6-2 in QF over Despina, 6-7(5) 0-6 in SF against Maria Sakkari GRE (#568)

However, she won her doubles semi 6-4 7-6(4) and then the final over (3) Papamichail GRE/Sakkari GRE 6-7(6) 6-3 10-5 for her first career doubles title, which is great since she lost the finals two weeks in a row. Third time is a charm! :cheer:

This week's 10K Heraklion:
Valentini was a late entrant so she was the top seed in qualies :p
QR2 d. Risako Sugihara JPN (NR) 6-3 6-1
Seeded 6th in the main draw ;)
R1 d. Natalie Proese GER (#900) 6-0 6-4
R2 vs. Natalia Siedliska POL (#677)

On paper it might have seemed like an easy R1, but Valentini drew her in the first round of a 25K last year which seemed like it would be an easy 8 ranking points for Valentini and she ended up losing7-6(5) in the third so Proese definitely gives Val some trouble. If she won that match last summer, she would've been easily in the top 500

No doubles this week, which I think is a good move since she's played a lot the last few weeks :)

Lost 9 of the last 10 games, clearly she was tired from all the tennis she's played the last few weeks ;)

She will fall in the rankings (to around 675 if my calculations are correct), but I think her results at these tournaments were very good. I have no doubt that she will rise up once again ;)

I don't know why she is struggling so much again. It looked like she was getting back on track. The players she lost to have at least backed up their wins over Valentini a little bit and Morderger is a very promising young player, but I'm still not happy about the losses in Slovenia. She really should play more 10K's instead of 25K's. Hopefully she can start winning a lot again soon ;)

ugh when is this girl going to reach her potential. it's starting to concern me

Jul 3rd, 2014, 05:58 AM
15K Netherlands:
QR2 d. Michele Erkens GER (NR) 6-1 6-1
QR3 d. (WC) Elke Tiel NED (NR) 6-0 6-1
R1 d. (8) Isabella Shinikova BUL (#385) 6-4 6-2 :woohoo:
R2 l. to Beatriz Haddad Maia BRA (#445) 5-7 4-6
Beatriz ended up reaching the final
Valentini also lost doubles QF here in STB

10K Belgium:
R1 d. (WC) Helene Scholsen BEL (#1110) 6-1 6-1
R2 vs. Deborah Kerfs BEL (#784)
Valentini is also in the doubles semis this week :cheer:

Jul 16th, 2014, 02:43 AM
She won 6-3 6-4 but then lost in QF to (1) Klaartje Liebens BEL (#432) 6-1 3-6 6-7(10) :bigcry:
I can't even imagine how many match points she must have wasted
Liebens ended up winning the title too, so that at least shows that her level is good but mentally she just isn't all there right now :(
She also lost the doubles SF, kind of expectedly I guess

25K Germany:
QR1 d. Michelle van Lier GER (NR) 6-2 6-2
QR2 d. (15) Natalia Orlova RUS (#492) 1-6 6-3 6-0
QR3 l. to (8) Yuuki Tanaka JPN (#446) 2-6 2-6

10K Belgium:
R1 d. (Q) Alice Rame FRA (#1062) 6-4 6-2 :)
R2 vs. (Q) Sofie Oyen BEL (#990, former #403)

Currently ranked 641, so she is (slowly) working her way back up :)

Jul 25th, 2014, 03:55 AM
6-4 6-7(6) 6-2
But 1-6 6-7(4) QF vs. Kelly Versteeg NED (#792)

Aug 31st, 2014, 06:38 AM
Her ranking fell down to 729 ( :tape: ), but now it's at 715 so she's (barely) working her way up again I guess

10K Turkey:
R1 d. Claudia Coppola ITA (#1066) 6-4 6-2
R2 l. to (6) Ksenia Palkina KGZ (#533) 6-3 5-7 6-7(6) :help:
She always loses with crazy scorelines. I don't even want to know how many times this year she's lost after having MP :o
Her TB record this year is an atrocious 0-9, absolutely horrible :tape:
What's even worse is that the least amount of points she's won in a TB this year was 4. So all of her TBs were really close and she still can't win them. It's one thing to lose all your TBs 7-0 and 7-1. But she is losing hers mostly 7-5, 8-6, 10-8, etc. :banghead:
Also this was the second time she lost a third set TB in the past two months, that says a lot about her mental game
The good thing is that it shows her potential and that her game isn't off, but mentally she is just all over the place these days :help:

10K Netherlands:
R1 d. (SE) Steffi Distelmans BEL (#920) 6-2 6-4
Steffi just won a 10K last week, so this is a really good win for Val! :yeah::drool:
R2 d. (Q) Katharina Hering GER (NR) 6-3 6-3
QF d. (Q) Nicola Geuer GER (NR, former #276) 6-2 6-4
SF l. to (1) Quirine Lemoine NED (#329) 5-7 1-6

Come on Val! Let's get back on track now! Still time to turn around your season! :cheer:

Sep 22nd, 2014, 03:06 AM
10K Serbia:
R1 d. Dajana Dukic SRB (#1093) 6-4 6-3
R2 d. (Q) Anna Makhorkina RUS (NR) 6-2 6-3
QF d. Ema Polic SRB (#950) 5-2 ret.
SF d. (1) Julia Stamatova BUL (#530) 6-3 6-1
F d. (3) Dea Herdzelas BIH (#585) 1-6 6-3 7-6(5)
So proud of her! :cheer:
She was down 2-5 in the third set and fought back :worship:
And she won in a third set TB! :speakles:
Just amazing considering her pathetic TB record, bravo! So happy for her! :hearts:

YES!! Hope she keeps this form going.

I haven’t updated this thread in a while but she only played two tournaments since I last posted here, both 10Ks in Heraklion.

In the first one she reached the final, losing to Dalma Galfi, who is currently a top 15 junior and on a 13-match winning streak in ITF pro circuit events. Of course there was no shortage of drama in the match, with the Hungarian topping Val 7-6(4) in the third :sobbing:
Val also reached the doubles semis here.

The following week Val lost a tight match in the QF. Unsurprisingly it ended in a tiebreak that Val lost 7-5 against Zovincova. Her tiebreak record really scares me but other than that she played pretty well recently and if she keeps up this form I think we can see her do big things in 2015.

She is now ranked 548. Obviously this was not a great year overall but she seems to be back on track after a poor start. She ended the year ranked lower than where she started it but she just needs more consistency. Also she didn't even play much,

She created a facebook fan page with photos and videos and she also seems to be training in the Netherlands mainly but also in Greece and Germany.

I’d like to see her accomplish these goals in 2015:
2015 Goals:
-Play a smart schedule. This year she played a lot of strong challengers where it was clear she wasn’t going to do very well.
-Top 300 singles
-Win some more 10Ks then move up to 25Ks and beyond.

It won’t be easy but with the age restrictions lifted when she turns 18 in February, it is possible in my opinion!

Jan 13th, 2015, 06:58 AM
10K Stuttgart:
R1 vs. Lou Brouleau FRA (#512)

This is a very strong 10K with the last DA being ranked 556, so she really wasn’t going to get a much better draw

No idea what to expect from Val

Doubles R1:
(4) Boev BEL/Grammatikopoulou GRE vs. Morderger GER/Morderger GER
Now that’s a tough draw

She plays doubles R1 Tuesday so singles will probably be Wednesday ;)
Best of luck! :cheer:

Valentini today - photo

Thanks! Did you see her play? How did she play? :)

Val won 7-5 6-1 over Brouleau :woohoo:
R2 vs. (7) Martina Borecka CZE (#355)

In doubles they had a good win in R1 3-6 6-2 10-8 :cheer:
But lost QF to 2-6 6-1 12-14 to Klasen GER/Zimmermann BEL. Probably had some MPs in that tiebreak :sobbing:

Jan 16th, 2015, 07:02 AM
Yes I have seen both matches:

Against Brouleau was a very good match - from both side very interesting to look

Against Borecka - after 0-3 Valentini fighted great and had some good chances for 5-5

I have uploaded some more photos and the next days still more photos of Valentini

Thanks so much for the pics! :worship::hatoff:
She seems like a nice girl. What do you think about her game? Do you think she has the potential to become a good player? Top 100? Top 50? Top 20? Thanks for any feedback :)

4-6 4-6 against a player ranked 200 places above her (Borecka) is not bad
Nice to see you mentioned she fought back from 0-3 down and had chances for 5-5. Hopefully she learned a lot from this match :)

This week she is still in Germany, this time 10K Kaarst. Another strong field here
R1 against (6) Tess Sugnaux SUI (#496). Won’t be easy but I think she definitely had a chance
No doubles this week, so hopefully she can do well in singles :cheer:

Jan 22nd, 2015, 04:20 AM
She pulled off the upset! :woohoo:
6-4 3-6 6-2
R2 vs. (Q) Tamara Korpatsch GER (#642) :bounce:

Jan 23rd, 2015, 05:43 AM
2-6 3-6
Disappointing that she lost, even more disappointing that she couldn’t even make it closer :(
She posted on her Facebook page that she needs to train harder and improve :)

She’ll take next week off and then play qualies at a 25K in France the following week :wavey:

Jan 26th, 2015, 05:08 AM
The girl she lost to ended up upsetting Lottner to reach the final, where she lost in three sets
Doesn't make Valentini's loss look so bad ;):p

Ranking improved to 531, which is good :). Not on any entry lists for the next few weeks, which is not good :(

Also this is her official Facebook page I just discovered :cheer:
Some cool pics and vids :)

I just noticed too that she has no upcoming entries.

When is she really going to hit her stride? I really thought she was a cut above and would be nearing the top 100 by now.

I guess she's still relatively young.

Feb 10th, 2015, 06:15 AM
I guess she's still relatively young.

Today was her 18th birthday
She's still ranked in the 500s and hasn't been able to break into the 400s for almost two years now :(
But now she is 18 and the age restrictions have been lifted so she can play a lot :p
Also I saw her on some lists for the week of 23 February so her return will be soon hopefully
Hopefully by the end of the 6 Heraklion tournaments she will have improved her ranking a lot :bounce:

She shares a birthday with Papamichail

Feb 14th, 2015, 06:22 AM
Happy Nameday! :aparty:
And she is on some more entry lists so she'll be back soon :D
Also she post a video on her Facebook page of her training today
Vamos Val! :cheer:
