Can anybody translate this article?

<a href="http://satusports.com/tenis/22590.html" target="_blank">http://satusports.com/tenis/22590.html</a>

It looks like Angie signed some sort of contract with Samsung.

Gold Coast should be her first tourney, even though I prefer if she played Auckland. <img src="smile.gif" border="0">

Nov 30th, 2001, 12:15 PM
Yeah danker,

I also saw that one. I am sure one of our Indonesian friends will give some details.

My guess is that she has signed a contract for Rupiah 150 to 300 million. I do however not really understand how the tier levels work.

What I do to get an idea of an article content is to translate the key words using the Indonesian - English dictionaries that can be found under the following website :<br /><a href="http://www.yourdictionary.com/languages.html" target="_blank">Various dictionaries</a> <img src="wink.gif" border="0"> You can even get a dictionary Miskitu - English (never heard of Miskitu before <img src="confused.gif" border="0"> ).

As for the Gold Coast, I saw that she was in the alternate list of qualifiers.

It looks like Angie won't be playing at the Gold Coast after all.

I heard she's one of the 8 playing at the HKG exhibition and the only Asian player there!<br />So no Ai, Wynne or Tammy!

Aus Open will be her first tourney.

I don't think it's too late for Wynne to enter one of the events that week.

Dec 1st, 2001, 03:26 PM
Thanks for the details danker. I always wonder where you get all this information from <img src="wink.gif" border="0"> . However hard I try to surf on the net, I can't get such details that fast.

I am wondering what Yayuk name was for in the article from Satusports.com then.

I believe Ai prefers to play on the Gold Coast.

As for Wynne, I have no particular information but my guess is that she'll be spending Christmas and New Year with her family.

Her calculations being most probably the following :<br />- she will lose points if she does not attend the Gold Coast tourney.<br />- But she'll make up for these points with the Oz Open, where she was not last year.<br />- Overall in the year, she'll be playing more WTA tourneys (she'll most probably be in the States in march - April, as opposed to ITF in Asia in 2001. So she will play in Indian Wells and Miami and most probably Amelia Island) and should therefore get even more points.

So I think she'll be taking a rest before a long and stressful year where huge tasks await her (my guess is that she'll try to crack the top 50 in singles and participate at the doubles Masters at the end of the year).

As she is a fervent Catholic, spending Christmas and the New Year with her family is very important to her.

But these are only personal conjectures <img src="wink.gif" border="0"> .

I forgot to say, Angie will be having her 17th birthday party on the 22nd Dec, so she won't be playing the Asian Championships. <img src="frown.gif" border="0">

BTW, Fed Cup (Asia Zone) in Guangzhou, China will be held the same time as the 1st week of Indian Wells. Very inconvenient for the "higher" ranked Asians including Wynne, etc. A $25K event in Shenzhen will take place the week after that. I expect a showing for most of the Fed Cup participants there (except those that don't play $25K events).

I wouldn't be surprised if Wynne decided to play in the Middle East in Feb instead of going all the way to the States before Fed Cup, then returning there after Fed Cup. She'll probably play Ericsson after Fed Cup, then the Green clay events like you said.

Dec 1st, 2001, 04:49 PM
Indian Wells is one of the two $2,000,000+ tourneys of the season (with the Ericson Open).

With the Grand Slams events, these are the two tourneys not to be missed in the season due to the new WTA point system.

I agree with you that Wynne decision will be hard to take. I believe it will also depend on her doubles partner decision (whether to play the Fed Cup or not).

Therefore, quite some incertitude on the outcome.

If Janet and Wynne want to make it at the end of the year at the Master Series, it is certain they can not afford to miss Indian Wells.

If I have more information on this issue, I'll let you know. My guess is that it will depend on the team performances in the first tourneys of the year (including The Aus Open).

As for the Middle East tourneys, I hope they will not be canceled due to the present unrest in the area.

I just saw that Angelique lost 6/0 6/1 to Jennifer Capriati in Hong Kong. The score is a bit severe but at least it gives some idea to Angie of the progress she has to achieve to reach the top rankings (which is her target).

I guess that Jennifer played extremely well.

Jan 3rd, 2002, 03:57 PM
I was following the match thru Jiro's score updates...

This match will help Angelique against the top players in the future!

Here is an article of what I think are Yayuk views on Angelique and Wynne. Any possible short translation from someone (Satya, I understand you are the "official translator" of the official Angelique website. Can you assist for this one, if possible for Yayuk views on both Angelique AND Wynne :) ;) ) :

Yayuk Basuki
Tentang Wynne dan Angie

Mantan ratu tenis Indonesia, Yayuk Basuki pernah berucap harapannya sangat besar agar Wynne Prakusya dan Angelique Widjaja dapat menjadi penggantinya. Bagaimana sebenarnya Yayuk mencermati keduanya?

Baru kemudian ikut turnamen."

Mengapa Yayuk menganjurkan demikian?

"Masalahnya adalah pada risikonya. Jika tidak ditangani sampai sembuh benar, itu justru risikonya lebih besar lagi. Saya juga pernah mengalami cidera dan tetap main. Tetapi kasusnya lain. Karena saya sudah sampai di Australia waktu itu dan cideranya saya alami di sana."

Memang hak Wynne jika tetap ingin main.

Sebagaimana Wynne, menurut dia, Angie pun petenis berbakat.

Mencari menang, tentu berat.

Soal speed and power, saya yakin kita ini mampu.

(apj)

Quite long article but certainly extremely interesting.

Just saw on the excellent official site of Angie (congratulations satya and... sorry once again :o ) that IMG Indonesia is trying to contact her to "talk to [her] sometime about advising [her] on your career moves".

IMG is certainly extremely famous but . Am I wrong or is it the company that is in difficult financial situation and has difficulties to manage the Master Series events?

So better be careful if I am right...

Jan 11th, 2002, 11:34 PM
Steveg :wavey: Nice chatting with you on the messenger. Hahaha... "official translator" is a very correct description of what I've been doing lately. hehe..

I haven't got time to do the Yayuk article.. it's basically all postive.. comments and some wise words for Wynne and Angie, the last paragraf is quite interesting though, Yayuk says something like: I was criticized by people to be lucky to be in the Top 50. Hope Angie doesn't get that too. I hope after Hong Kong she can reevaluate and rise again.

Danker :wavey: maybe the Tokyo event. If she's out of AUS juniors, she'll try to enter Tokyo's qual. If she stays long enough in AUS juniors, she'll have to hope for an Asian wild card from Tokyo.

Steveg again :wavey: IMG signed it although they made contact. I'm surprised they wrote an open letter, I guess they're excited. They seemed sincere and really concerned, but thanks for the info/rumor. certainly an interesting topic. Where in this site do we discuss sponsorships?

Jan 12th, 2002, 04:57 AM
:o :o :o

satya, really sorry but my mom told me not to speak to strangers ;) and I had no clue at all about who wanted to start a conversation  .

We'll chat the next time now that I know it's you :) .

I think it is more than a rumour about IMG as I saw it in two tennis magazines (French and American). I am currently trying to find the articles back, which is quite difficult. Anyone having similar information (TBE :) ??).

To discuss sponsorship, the best would most probably be to open a thread in the General forum. Have you seen the movie Jerrie Mc Guyrre? I guess companies like IMG work a bit this way :p . Most important is to know which agent in the company is looking after the player I guess.

Regarding the article I posted, I think there has been something about Wynne injury (waist) and I was told that her injury prevented her from playing well in Sydney. Is my understanding correct?

Jan 27th, 2002, 09:54 AM
It appears everyone has fogotten Angie. This thread was out of the "past 10 days" list :( .

Angie won the junior doubles event with Gisella Dulko ARG

on the tight score of 6-2 5-7 6-4 against

Svetlana Kuznetsova RUS / Matea Mezak CRO who were the #1 seeds.

That's a good victory for Angie, which I hope will assist her to get some confidence for her singles matches.

Mar 3rd, 2002, 04:40 AM
Don't know but it will certainly be posted first on her excellent (though some comments regarding Wynne Prakusya should certainly be censored by the webmasters  ) official website first.

What I can tell you before that is that there will be a special ceremony in Guangzhou during which a special award will be given to Angelique by the ITF for her outstanding results last year (Wimbledon Junior, Bali...).

I think this news is not on her website yet ;) .

Mar 17th, 2002, 02:11 AM
I just found out this thread.

:bounce: so that I will remember to check it

Mar 26th, 2002, 03:43 PM
According to Angie's interview recently in Indonesia, her next tournament will be Dubai Challenger $75,000 on 1-7 April 2002.

The after that, she will travel to Europe to play some WTA tournament, including in Hamburg or Croatia, then in Berlin or Warsawa, before going into French Open. Her tour will continue until Wimbledon.

She said she would try to collect as many points as possible to increase her ranking. Her target is Top 110 after the European Tour.

Good Luck, Angelique :bounce: :bounce:

I think the article was also mentioning something about Su Wei Hsieh  but I could not understand it  .

Could you please kindly let me know what was said :o ?

Mar 26th, 2002, 04:07 PM
Steveg, the article said that if Angie and Su Wei play in the same tournament, they will team up for double (ie for senior events). For juniors (grand slam), Angie will still team up with Gisella Dulko from Argentina.

kfh_9118 :wavey:

Mar 26th, 2002, 06:58 PM
Thanks a lot kfh_9118 :D .

Are you the Henry who mentioned in Ed's website to have had a picture taken with Wynne at the Oz Open? If yes, did you have time to chat with her too?

Mar 27th, 2002, 05:28 AM
Yes, that's me Steve, you have a strong memory :)

I did take a pics with Wynne after her match against Myskina, but I did not talk too much with her, considering she lost the match, and she seemed very tired.

But I did have a chance chat with her during Angie's qualification match against Jenny in the Aussie Open. Wynne watched that match, and after the match, I asked for her autograph, and then asked her condition (which she replied not very bad) and whether she will play mixed double (which she said still waiting for a place in the draw and a partner).

I didn't have Angie's autograph so far, because she lost early and I didn't want to interupt her after her lost. So I didn't have a chance to take a photograph or chat with Angie   .

Mar 27th, 2002, 09:30 PM
Thanks for the details Henry :) .

It was extremely considerate of you not to talk too long with Wynne after her match against Myskina. I am certain she appreciated it :) . I have seen Wynne in other tournaments and I can tell you that unfortunately not everyone is like you :( . She has great patience though :D .

As for Angie, I am certain you will have many more opportunities to meet her again in future and have a chat ;) .

Apr 6th, 2002, 08:53 PM

Angie is now in the Finals of a the 75k Challenger. Good luck against Asagoe!

Apr 8th, 2002, 01:50 AM
She just Won Dubai! congrats on her title! where is here next stop??

Apr 8th, 2002, 05:25 AM
I think her next stop will be BOL ladies open because the winner of Dubai gets a direct entry to the tournement.

Apr 8th, 2002, 07:57 AM
What is she doing in between Dubai and Bol? practicing in Europe? or going home to Bandung?

Apr 30th, 2002, 05:12 PM
Angie won her first round match in BOL against Seda Noorlander (NED) 6-2, 6-0. Good on her. Next opponent: #1 Seed Elena Dementieva (RUS).

Well, good luck Angie, you still have a chance to win this match, so just have a go and we'll see what happens :)
Nothing to lose against Elena for sure

Good luck in double as well against Tina/Krizan :bounce: :bounce:

Apr 30th, 2002, 06:20 PM

Angelique certainly can win this match!

May 10th, 2002, 09:02 AM

To put an avatar, just go to user cp, then "edit options" and at the bottom you'll find an avatar thing. You can use some pictures provided or if you have your own, you can upload it from ur computer.

I think Indonesian Uber Cup Team will not make the semifinal. They even lost to the weakest team, Hong Kong, so IMO they're going to lose to both Denmark and Netherland :(

The RG main draw has been released and here are the draw for Angie

1st Round: vs Jill Craybas. Angie certainly has a good chance here. I think Jill is not very good in clay. So use this good opportunity, Angie :)

2nd Round: possible match up against Alexandra Stevenson. Alexandra is a tough opponent, but she is not a good claycourter. So Angie still have a chance here :)

3rd Round: most likely will face Jennifer (#1 seed). It will be very good if Angie could make into the third round in her first attempt in a Grand Slam. Jennifer is the first seed and the defending champion. So I'm not dare to dream that Angie could win this match :) Hope Angie could use this good opportunity to improve her experience and at least she doesn't lose by 0 and 1, as she did in HK last year.

I do hope that Angie could cruise into third round, so I could watch her match against Jennifer on TV :)

GOOD LUCK ANGIE :bounce: :bounce:

This week, Angelique is the highest ranked Indonesian player in the WTA :

This week ranking - Last week ranking - Names - Points - Quality points - Next off

93 - (92) - WIDJAJA, ANGELIQUE - 389.75 - 79.00 - 0.00
96 - (89) - PRAKUSYA, WYNNE - 374.00 - 113.00 - 19 - 0.00

The difference of points is 15.75 By reaching the Q3 in Eastbourne Wynne has already secured 18.75 points (6.75 ranking points + 12 quality points). She'll be therefore back at #1 as from next week (no points to defend this week and Angelique is not playing).

It's great to have two Indonesian in Top 100.
I hope it can be a motivation for Wynne to do well. Hope they can have a positive competition between them :)

I think Angie's site would be the most appropriate place to find an answer to that ;) . I think that Angie schedule is mentioned there, but I am not too certain. As for Angie ranking, it should be in the top #80 after Wimbledon. Most probably around #78 or something.

Jul 12th, 2002, 02:02 AM

Hi ya folks!

i'm an Indonesian too and am very proud of what the Indonesian girls have achieved so far.. :)

Angie's now ranks at #75... that's a huge leap from last year where she was at 500 or sthing...

Here's a match report from Ed Toombs who watched the match for On The Line : Another fast-rising teenaged newcomer, Indonesias Angelique Widjaja, was making her Canadian Open dbut, and it was as unimpressive as Zvonarevas was impressive. Widjajas game must have been lost in transit to Montreal: she was never competitive in a 6-2, 6-0 loss to American Sarah Taylor.

Taylor is not a bad player at all. The Nick Bollettieri pupil has good size (5'9'' or 1.75 m) and a forehand capable of putting opponents on the defensive with penetrating forehands. But Widjaja made Sarahs life easy, making repeated errors on routine shots and often badly misjudging her opponents shots.

Widjajas problems were mainly on the forehand side. Her forehand can be an effective shot for her, but is too often loose and wristy, and the shot broke down repeatedly for her today. Not even the arrival of countrywoman Wynne Prakusya and Thai star Tamarine Tanasugarn, who came during the second set to join Widjajas support group, could stop the carnage this afternoon.

So noone is cheering after her victory over Anna Kournikova ????

Well, I know it was probably a bit of luck and Anna lost probably first to herslef, but still, maybe little Angelique needs a little bit of confidence ! We'll see what happens next .....

Remember also that Venus made a very impressive foirst match and then took years to make such a good performance, so don't be in a hurry, let her progress :)

Go girl ! :)

In local newspaper Sunday edition of "Suara Pembaruan", there was an intw with Angie. She is targeting to reach at least 2ndR in AO and she will play with no burden. But she said, her target really depends on the draw she will have...Deddy, G's coach is focusing on her lackness on upper body and serve. Angie was practising with Cho this morning at Melbourne Park, and then Angie left earlier, and Cho continued practising with one Japanese girl (not sure her name, but I'm pretty sure she is not Ai or Shinobu). She has a curly and long hair. Her face is very familiar but I just can't recall her name :(

Angie has a curly hair as well now :) It's good, but I prefer the straight one :) I also had a bit of chat with Angie and her coach, and Angie told me that she'll partner with Clarisa again in AO... Deddy (her coach) said her match-up againts Ai will be an interesting one, and both have a good chance to win... Hopefully Angie can make an upset :)

One good thing here: both of these Asian girls are pretty popular in Australia now... Lots of people watching them practising, took some photos, and asked for autographs :)

I got both of their autographs :) and a pic with Angie :)

Good luck Gie

As for Court 2, it's one of the showcourt here in Melbourne Park. Rod Laver Arena is the main and biggest court. Margaret Court Arena is the second biggest one. It used to be Court 1, and they changed the name this year. Then Court 2 and Court 3, all of them are showcourts. Court 18 and 19 is also the big ones, but not as big as 2 and 3. An article about Angie from "The Age"

Indonesian rising star looks to top seeds

January 13 2003
By Tim Colebatch

The Widjaja family of Bandung had five boys. Then, after a gap of six years, they had a girl. And some girl she is turning out to be.

When little Angelique was just four years old, her brothers introduced her to a tennis court. Within a few years, their kid sister was beating them. Within a few more years, she was beating just about anybody.

At 16, Angelique Widjaja became the first Indonesian player to win junior Wimbledon. Four months later, she entered her first event on the Women's Tennis Association tour and won it, downing Thai star Tamarine Tanasugarn to win the 2001 Wismilak International in Bali.

Now just 18, Widjaja has several more titles to her name and will be one of the new generation out to upset the established order at the Australian Open.

Today she will play 21st seed Ai Sugiyama of Japan in the first round and, if successful, could then face seeded players Conchita Martinez, Patty Schnyder and Daniela Hantuchova.
If Melbourne Park gets hot and humid, she won't mind. Bandung, where her wealthy family runs textile and tourism companies, is in the relative cool of Java's mountains, but she has spent half her life chasing tennis balls in the hot sun.

Last year she won tournaments in Dubai, and Pattaya in Thailand, and reached the semi-finals in Shanghai. Now ranked 74 in the world, she says her next goal is to make the top 50. That could come soon.

A slim 173 centimetres, she names Lindsay Davenport as the player she most admires. Like Davenport, she hits the ball flat and low, but her real strength is her natural athleticism, apparently effortless style, and ability to read the game quickly.

At last year's Australian Open she took home the junior doubles crown, and at the French Open she defeated Russian prodigy Dinara Safina, kid sister of Marat Safin, to win the girls' singles. Then she quit junior tennis for the big time.

At Wimbledon, she whipped 15th seed Anna Pistolesi (nee Smashnova) 6-3, 6-2, and at the US Open she was even more ruthless to Anna Kournikova, wiping her off the court 6-3, 6-0.

If she makes the top 20, Widjaja herself could become one of the pin-up girls of tennis. On court in Canberra last week she was the fashion item.

But she says two things await her back home. She is still a schoolgirl and faces her final exams in mid-year. And after the US Open in September, she will return to Bali to compete in its tournament and show her support for the island, where tourism has collapsed after last October's bombing.

The article above was giving wrong info...Angie did not beat Dinara Safina at FO Junior 2002...she did beat "US version of Anna Kournikova" aka Ashley Harkleroad...Angie defeated Dinara in Wimbledon Junior 2001...:o :p

Today's lost was pretty bad for Angie...Angie seemed to make many unforced errors...She did not play her own game...3 sets was expected...So, now you have better prep for Japan Open...coz you have go thru qualifying round first...Some people say, Angie deserves a Wild Card for MD in Tokyo...We'll see...I doubt it though! They will give to Japanese players definitely!:(

It was obvious...Ai had more winners...but for UEs...they both were sucks...Ai was 63 I heard and Angie was 60? Angie's poor performance - maybe it was due to her coach's instruction to play different strategy...So, Angie did not play her won game then...then she hit many UEs with such different game plan! If Deddy could not bring Angie to top 50 by mid year, he should be fired...:( :o

Angie is not going to partnered with Clarisa...If she is staying with CF, then they must go through qualifying round first so then Angie decided to partner with Kelly Liggan...Kelly/Voracova have won against Angie/Tammy in Pattaya's SF last year...Then, Kelly/Renata won their 1st title after knocking down Lina K/Tatiana P...

Tough draw for Angie/Kelly since they must face seeded 14 - Justine H Hardenne/Elena Bovina..It will be David vs Goliath match! Angie/Tax had the experience to face against Elena B/H Nagyova in the final of Bol Open 2002 and they won it!

Adji, I did see Angie's match yesterday (full match). Angie/Kelly started strong by holding serve and break Elena's serve straight away, then Angie hold serve to lead 3-0. Justine hold and from there, Justine and Elene just playing too great. Angie/Kelly just being fooled by them. Kelly was the weakest player there IMO, she did a lot of DFs and UEs. Angie played well, but it seems that Justine and Elena targeted Kelly all the time :(

Maybe Angie and Kelly just feel the pressure playing such a great player like Justine and Elena. THe second set just gone so quickly. Angie had several chance to hold her serve but she couldn't... Overall, most points were from Justine/Elena's winners and not Angie/Kelly errors. The opponents just too good.

Arigatou gozaimasu He-nu-ri-san...Yup, I do speak Japanese 'coz I used to live in a country side out of Fukuoka and I went to school in the city...Again, heap thanks for ur news...So, Angie was not bad...in the 1st set...I used to like Japanese male player, Shuzo Matsuoka...he is retired now...For female players, I used to like Kimiko Date & Naoko Sawamatsu...Back in the good old days before monetary crisis...I have watched Matsuoka, Naoko, Kyoko Nagatsuka, Ai Sugiyama, Miho Saeki, Nana Miyagi, Rika Hiraki, Yuka Yoshida when they all played in Senayan...Now, it is so sad...Jakarta has no more prestigious tournament...This year, if everything works out well, I plan to watch Wismilak Intl in Bali...Too bad, the schedule is not attractive...right after US Open...it is very tough for players to fly from East Coast all the way to the land of bomb attack...I hope, WTA officials can make a deal with Anna Kournikova to play in Bali...Woohoo, that'd be cool!!! I really hope, the quality of players will be higher this year...I want to see at least 3 top 20 players there...Not realistic, I guess...Personally, I want to see Daja Bedanova, Nathalie Dechy, Clarisa Fernandez, Tax, Laura Granville, Sarah Taylor again, Sveta, Iroda, Anca, Anne Kremer, Tatiana Panova, Elena Bovina, Elena Likhovtseva (I saw her back several years ago in Jakarta), Yoon Jeong Cho, Mi Ra Jeon, Akiko Morigami (I saw her in Jkt when she was still junior), Klara Koukalova, Samantha Stosur, Denisa Chladkova, Chanelle Scheepers, Iveta Benesova, Flavia Pennetta, Marion Bartoli, Tammy (I enjoyed to have chat in 1993 & 1994 in Senayan), Barbara Schett, how many already?...Am I greedy? I really wish...these players can come...When you wish upon BALI...make no difference who the players are...Again, terima kasih yah!:) :D :wavey: :wavey: :wavey:

In both world class site of Yahoo Sports and WTA Tour, in Angie's profiles...there are some incorrect and missing informations...In Yahoo Sports, it is written there that Angie is from Poland...I bet they cannot differentiate between the two country's flags...or I do not know:eek:

And for title in 2002...Angie is BIG ZERO! How come? She won Pattaya, right? I bet the moderator does not know where Thailand is:rolleyes:

While in WTA web site, it does not say about Angie's performance up to 2nd round of Roland Garros in 2002...

Here's what is available on the net :Widjaja rallies to down Kostanic

By A. Joseph Antony

Indonesia's Angelique Widjaja unleashes a powerful forehand in her opening round encounter against Jelena Kostanic of Croatia in the WTA Indian Open tennis tournament in Hyderabad on Monday. Photo: Mohammed Yousuf

HYDERABAD Feb. 3. Seventh seeded Angelique Widjaja survived a scare against Jelena Kostanic 1-6, 6-4, 6-3 in the opening round of the WTA Indian Open at the Sports Authority of Andhra Pradesh tennis complex here on Monday.

In a largely offensive baseline duel, the Indonesian played the waiting game, wearing out Kostanic in exactly 100 minutes. A mentally tougher Widjaja prevailed as she let the Croat go on the charge and make the mistakes too. Rarely did the duo stir from the vicinity of the baseline.

The left-handed Kostanic's big serve saw her surge ahead in the opening set, which she wrapped up in just 21 minutes. In the second, Kostanic's first game loss was a setback from she could never recover. Stretched in her service games, she began to tire too.

Meanwhile, Widjaja continued to play it safe. Her first serve, though not too forceful, remained accurate. Breaking her opponent right at the start of the decider was another blessing for Widjaja. Kostanic's forays to the net were flawed.

After breaks were traded from games four to six, Kostanic's formidable serve failed her in the seventh. Her warding off two match points in the ninth came too late in the day for the Croat. By then the contest was too far out of her reach.

Manisha Malhotra's nerve was her strongest ally in a fairly even match against Korea's Jin Hee Kim. On the big points, the Indian never faltered, fetching her a well-earned place in the main draw.

An absence of a press enclosure on court three prevented descriptive coverage of the action featuring the eighth seed, Silvija Talaja. As you say, one can really see Angelique body on this photo ;) .

Since Angie has been playing on senior level, I think Angie's lost to Maria is the worst one! Maria is ranked 330 but it is not certainly meaning that her game level is way below Angie...I think, they are in the same level as Angie just graduated from junior...Um sure, Angie was under pressure as a seeded player, with higher ranking and she still has fragile mental toughness in facing critical points...Come on, Angie...tons of homework u have...mental and skills...big time! Gearing-up for two tourneys in Middle East! Best of luck always!!!:( :D :wavey:

Angie needs to learn how to fully take advantage of all her opportunities given. It's easier said than done. Especially her losses to Dokic & Kirilenko the last couple of weeks, she would lose the set after leading considerably. :(

BTW lokamaya, are you looking forward to the 2 $10K events held in Jakarta held in the weeks of 28 April & 5 May?

BTW, I heard that Angie got into main draw in Qatar since Eleni and Anne Kremer withdrew! Not bad at all in a way, but she has to defend 7.5 points and I really wish her for good draw so that at least she can reach 2nd round...Last year, she was a qualifier and lost to Husarova in 1st round! Yeah Angie's very famous in Indonesia alongside other athletes such as Taufik Hidayat, Utut Adianto and Ade Rai. We had Tennis euphoria in the Yayuk era...and we want 2 repeat that. Yes, she supposed to receive it at AO but the committee did not give it until the final day of AO and as you may aware, at that time, Angie had to leave for Tokyo to be on time for Toray Pan Pacific Open!!! So, she did not attend the officila ceremony then...UM back after a trip to the city of WISMILAK!!!:D :wavey:

From the newspapaer today, I found out that after Angie's bad loss in 3 rd round then she packed up and she went to San Francisco for her practice while she is waiting until Nasdaq Miami begins...Come on, Angie...keep practicing hard!!! :wavey:

After Miami, Angie is scheduled to play Sarasota, Charleston and Key Biscaine...Wow, I wonder if she is gonna play all of them! Then, she flies straight to Tokyo for Fed Cup, I think...Go, Angie!!!

oops, not Key Biscaine or Biscane...pardon my spelling...it is actually, Amelia Island!!!

There is new development in Angie's website, Angie has withdrawn from all clay courts' tourneys in USA - Sarasota, Charleston & Amelia Island...I guess, she returns to Jakarta and gets ready with the rest of the Fed Cup team! Go, Angie!!! :wavey:

Mar 13th, 2003, 09:49 AM
what  (o.O)? Why?

Mar 13th, 2003, 12:17 PM

But maybe some rest will do some goods for Angie's physic and ready for Fed Cup and Roland Garros :D

Henry, I certainly agree with you...She needs rest and get ready for Fed Cup...I think, by playing green clay courts in USA is not helping for her prep as an achor in Fed Cup team...Fed Cup will be held at Ariake Colliseum - hard court - so, she can practice on HC back in Jakarta with the other team members and also to have sense of togetherness...Wynne is indeed more experienced player than Angie, but now Angie is number one player in Indonesia so she may want to prep better then...Just my guess! After Fed Cup, then she will go to Europe...prior to RG, she has points to defend in Bol/Croatia & Strasbourg/France...Go, anchor!!! :wavey:

Mar 14th, 2003, 08:26 AM
I think she had to defend points in Dubai Challengers..

UR absolutely correct, Felix...but Angie has decided not to defend her title...so, she is gonna lose 77 points next month!!!

Angie's made the right choice by deciding to withdraw from all green clay tourneys! :D

Apart from $$$ & points, there's nothing to gain from playing them just before Fed Cup. I'm sure she'll go to Europe early after Fed Cup in order to play the Red Clay events. ;)

Angie still practices in San Francisco and she leaves for Miami tomorrow. Angie is confirmed to play again with Maria Vento Kabchi. It is kind of surprising since Barbara Rittner is playing Miami, too. I guess, they have made such a deal!

Organized by "Suara Pembaruan" daily, Angie has been voted as Best Female Athlete of 2002...Congrats, Angie! The award was given to her mother since Angie is now in SF...Angie won the votes and left behind Uyun Muzizah (winner of 2 silver medals for cycling in Asian Games 2002) and Wynne Prakusya! Bravo, Angie! :bounce: :wavey:

Watch out against "red hot" Pennetta! She has been performing better than you so far this year...So, go out there and play ur own game...what matters on the court that moment! Just give it a shot! :wavey:

It is dissapointing but expected since Flavia is progressing so much recently and G is still erratic with her lack of mental toughness and her physical rigor! So, lot of homeworks to do back in Jakarta, Angie!!!   :(

Better luck next time, Angie.
