Well, both have multiple wins against Venus.
And both are one of the very rare cases to score three wins against her in a row.:worship:
Pironkova has better best results at GSs (SF and QF, Pennetta - two QFs).:wavey:
But Flavia is better in everything else you could imagine of.

Pennetta is really struggling this season especially on clay (she entered with a 2-3 2011 record on clay). Losing to Parra Santonja in two, Mattek-Sands, Lepchenko and last week to Strycova.
Pironkova comes in red hot from Wimbledon taking the most games from eventual champion Petra Kvitova( one of the only two players to take her to three sets). At the same time Pironkova is 2-7 on clay this season, its very much her worst surface(her serve is not as effective on this surface).
Pennetta won their only other meeting in Rome on clay in 2009(different story back than) but that went to three tough sets.
I still go for Pironkova in two tough sets, since Pennetta just played a 3 hour long match in which she basically gave one of her worst performances. Pironkova comes in with a lot of confidence and we know what happens when she makes it past the 2nd round.
Pironkova 6-4 7-5

Tsveti really should win this. She is playing pretty well at the moment and it does seem Flavia's shoulder is troubling her, certainly Flavia hasn't played well since February which is when she scored her last top 50 win. Tsveti in 2.

Pironkova in 3.
Pennetta is still to weak. Match with Johansson was long and hard.
