Why is Goerges an option while the Australian Open champ is not ?

Anyway. Marion is the one who has impressed me the most.

I voted for Petra. Best winning %, and I think she has finally figured out how to win close matches and tournaments this year. It's true the counterpunchers will make her hit a few extra shots on hard courts, but you can't keep fetching back 80 mph groundstrokes forever. Li a close second because of RG and the AO final. But I like Petra's trajectory more.

No one has been particularly stand out. They've all been impressive for a variety of reasons if I'm honest, but not one person has been "amazing", otherwise they would have dominated 100%. I suppose Petra, Li and Maria have all been quite consistent, but I wouldn't call it amazing as such.

Kvitova - hardly anyone rises from outside the top-30 to just outside the top-5 in the space of six months
Serena - for coming back from such adversity.

Na.She was the only one to reach 2 slam finals (on two different surfaces)and was the first Asian woman ever to win one.She get this imo.

On a lower level, Bartoli's effort in the past few months has been quite amazing.

Kvitova wins by miles.

Li won the FO and was in the final of AO, therefore, she is the player of the year so far.

Goerges deserves praise for never being bothered by who is on the other side of the net

NL and that monstrosity bandage of hers are completely over rated.

Umi Says

Na Li should wrap that bandage around her face with her nose in the kneecap hole.

Henpova
Jul 7th, 2011, 08:16 PM
I would say Li...Finals at the AO...Win at the FO...and would of made it a lot further at Wimb if she was not so unlucky to face Lisicki in the 2R. Since Lisicki was playing top five tennis.

But I bet Petra could be the best of the year!

Is this a hypothetical question? Or is coming from a authentic tennis site?

OK... It's a hypothetical.... In that case I'll pick my likes in a somewhat order...

Bartoli, Petra, Wozniacki, Vika, Maria, Goerges, Petkovic, Wickmayer, Radwanska, Peng, Lisicki.

1) Petra 39-6, 4 different titles on 4 different surfaces and tier levels with a Dominant Grand Slam run and final win.

2) Ni La (AO final, Madrid Semi and FO Grandslam win), but not much else.
3)Masha (Rome title, FO semi, Wimby final). Great comeback.
4)Bartoli Great, solid year with 1st title in several years.
5)Caroline Wozniaki (The usual solidity)
6)Victoria Azarenka, These two could be easily switched (Vika & Caro), and she did make a GS semi this year.

7 Peng Shuai (I know she has no titles). But the girl plays and wins. Good record to.

Hon Mention Kim Clijsters, who you can make an argument should be 3 or 4, with a earlier Australian title, but virtually nothing else to show.

Franchesca Schiavone, Repeat French Open final run, but virtually nothing else

Missing/Milk cartons: Vera Zvonareva AO semi early this yr. Have you seen her?

Kvitova edges Na out. Both have a slam W, but Petra has a PM win, plus an additional title. Plus Petra is like, QF/4R/W at the slams, while Na has F/W/2R  both have 14-2 records in slams this year, no? If anything, Na would only SLIGHTLY edge Kvitova in that regard. Outside of slams, Madrid/Brisbane/Paris > Sydney. It's Kvitova.

Hard to say; you never know when it's Anotoxfa or when it's Hantuchova. (29-19 :oh:)

#20 in the Race is in the options and #1 is not?
But who cares about winning Tier I's. Lisicki has better results in qualifiers (made it through 2 out of 4) and ITF's (played 4 and reached a 50k semifinal). Wozniacki has achieved nothing in these.
