You should start with Six Feet Under or Mad Men. The best thing about The Killing is reading people snark about it because it got downright laughable by the end of the first season. :o That show has no respect for its audience.

The story is intriguing(I like these kind of shows) and besides there are only 13 episodes so it won't take much time. I'll definitely watch six feet under then. Heard a lot of good things about it.

French TV shows are generally atrocious but this one is actually very intricate and interesting. You'd learn a lot about French police & criminal system.

Currently watching 'Lie to Me'.

i tried and tried, but i just can't get into "lie to me". it all seems so random, and as much as i love tim roth, i find him rather annoying in this role.

i've just finished the 1st season of "the wire" and all the good things i had heard about it were justified.
it's quite strange btw: this show was never shown on swiss/german/austrian television, and the 1st season was only released on DVD in 2010 (the 2nd season followed this year). i don't have an explanation for this.

and now i bought the first 3 seasons of "breaking bad" on DVD and started the 1st season last week. loving it so far.

The good news is that American TV is the best it's ever been (unlike movies :o).
You just have to know where to look.

Some of my favorite shows are: Six Feet Under, The Sopranos, Lost, and currently Game of Thrones.

For comedies: Arrested Development, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia, Curb Your Enthusiasm and Freaks and Geeks are among the best.

There are so many though that it's hard to keep up. I still need to watch Mad Men, Breaking Bad, The Wire etc. so it's really been a golden age for U.S. television this decade despite a lot of crap that's been shown on the networks.

The CW has a reputation for having teenage shows, it doesn't mean all their programming is for teens. You only have to watch Nikita to know that it's mainly for the 18-49 demo, and would probably even have been better off on cable.

That's because both series are based on the French film Nikita. :p But this remade series is way better than the old.

Thanks for connecting the dots for me!

Nikita is not intended for teens. It's the best action/drama show on television.

the second season has been borderline abysmal :o Even Alex is not saving it, the show is most probably getting axed; first season was great, though :awww:

 You're the first person I've seen who doesn't like the second season. But I agree it will be axed. Even though the ratings are consistent, they are way too low. I hope they show all 23 eps of S2 though.

OK, I might have exaggerated a bit  I am still watching, though kinda forwarding too much and skipping some scenes :awww: Being moved to Fridays kinda doomed it right from the start, but 100% they will show it all

IMO, if you're not watching Breaking Bad, you're not with it. Puts everything else on TV to shame.
