I know it's too early, but I couldn't wait
After 2 good Slams on clay and grass, it's time to play on hard courts again :bounce:
Last year Masha was scheduled to play in Stanford, Cincinnati and Montreal, but unfortunately withdrew from Montreal true to ankle injury...
She had good results in Stanford and Cincinnati, reaching the finals(and losing of course )

Stanford 2010
R1 beat Jie Zheng 6-4 7-5 W
R2 beat Olga Govortsova 6-3 6-3 W
QF beat Elena Dementieva 6-4 2-6 6-3 W
SF beat Agnieszka Radwanska 1-6 6-2 6-2 W
F lost to Victoria Azarenka 4-6 1-6 L

Masha played twice in Stanford(2009 and 2010). She lost to Venus in 2009 6-2 6-2 and she was the runner up last year!

I loved the outfit :hearts:

Cincinnati 2010
R1 beat Svetlana Kuznetsova 6-4 1-6 6-2 W
R2 beat Andrea Petkovic 6-3 6-1 W
R3 beat Agnieszka Radwanska 6-2 6-3 W
QF beat Marion Bartoli 6-1 6-4 W
SF beat Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova 6-4 3-6 6-2 W
F lost to Kim Clijsters 2-6 7-6 6-3 L
Masha made her debut in Cincy last year, reaching the final :bounce:

http://i.telegraph.co.uk/multimedia/archive/01697/clijstersget_1697164c.jpg

As much as I loved last years outfit, I love this year's even more :hearts:
It's gonna look soooo awesome!

She is playing in Stanford, Toronto and Cincinnati this year(Cincy comes after Toronto from 2011).
Since Wozniacki, Clijsters and Zvonareva wont be playing in Stanford Maria will be the 2nd seed ;)

What do you expect from her hard court season? Hopefully she wins a title
Stanford or Toronto would be nice ;)

Cincinnati. Seems she always gets better as the US Open Series rolls on, and her results steadily improve.

I know she'll probably run into some of the top-tier players (and perhaps beat them), but I want to see her play some of those players in the US Open. I hope her draw is a nightmare... I want her to get a big time test in a Grand Slam. In her big runs at Roland Garros and Wimbledon, we never really saw her play any elite players (except Na Li, and she lost that one). Going on a deep run at the US Open while beating players like Caroline or Serena or Kim or Vika would be huge for her, and would make winning the US Open mean even more than her winning today would have.

Agreee...I think she can be top 4 by USO if she plays all 3 tournaments and makes deep run and win at least won of them...so she won't face Kim and Caro...but she can meet Na Li, Vika, Serena and Venus.

Of course if she is top 4.

I think she's gonna win Stanford.

As for Toronto and Cincy, I'm hoping she will not have to withdraw one of them like last year.

But I think she'll have a deep run in both.

Agree
I think she doesn't feel it well...I mean it's not natural for her...
I still hope she'll find consistency, because at W during 3 matches she made max 3 DFs...and in two other(most important:facepalm:) 5+.
In only one tournament she made less than 5 DFs in each match-Rome...but also her groundstrokes were perfect.

Her top speed at 2011 Wimbledon Final was 113 miles but her average speed was 101 miles.

We'll know she is confident with her serves when she is close to 118 miles and 110 miles, like in her hay days.

She was playing inspired tennis in Rome.

Her serve was fine in the final, way better than her serve in SF. She's put some work on it before the final. She just DF at the wrong moments aganist Kvitova but in the Lisicki match she normally DF when leading the game. It's Kvitova's groundstrokes that she couldn't deal with because it's so discrete and she was a bit clueless where to go. Also, the serving stats in similar between Maria and Kvitova, only Kvitova was placing the serve better and used the spin better.

EDIT: OK, they haven't. This is the page to check once they have: http://www.cincytennis.com/2011_field_announcement/ or follow @cincytennis for the live announcement.

I speculate that Maria will be on the entry list, however, she'll withdraw immediately after Toronto if she goes relatively deep there. We'll see. From personal preference, Cincinnati > Toronto. But Canada always bring the crowds.

It's a shame if she won't play Cincy (those courts suit her the best out of all the USOS tourneys IMO), but I think it's understandable that she wouldn't want to play. That loss last year probably crushed her spirit + all the failures and those SAPPING conditions (heat and extreme humidity).

This is the part of the year where she serves the most double faults:17 dfs vs Domachovska in MOntreal 2008, in 2009: 17 vs Bammer in Toronto, 16 vs U.Radwanska and Pennetta in LA, 21 vs Oudin in the USO and in 2010 15 vs Dementieva and 12 vs Radwanska in Stanford :tape:

Maybe, maybe not. She hasn't won a USO series tournament since San Diego 2007 and we all know HC is not her best surface these days.

Isn't it? In 2009, her best results came on quick hardcourts (Toronto final, Tokyo win)... she stunk up the court at Wimbledon and her grasscourt warm-up, and even though she made the QFs at RG, she did play pretty poorly and only made it that far on willpower alone. In 2010, her only big results came during the US Open Series (Stanford + Cincy finals).

I still think the US Open is her best chance in the majors, because super-quick hardcourts where she can kill off the points quickly, but can move fairly well (her height means she can't pick up the low balls on grass that great), means it's best suited to her game.

Now that she has said it, she better bring it hard if they do play. A 61 61 drubbing would be even more embarrassing now.

So is she going to play Cincy or not? I'm confused.

So is she going to play Cincy or not? I'm confused.

WTA notes doesn't list that she is playing Cincy. Oh well, it doesn't matter. If she reaches the final of Toronto she would not want to play Cinciy anyway. Besides, she could always get a wild card. They won't deny last year's runner up and current World No. 5 a wc if Maria requests.

Ok thank you.

But I'm afraid that if she loses early in Toronto, she won't ask for WC...

Yeah, but it is only an exhibition.

Where is Li? I'm surprised she's not higher on that list probably just because she lost in Wimbledon R2 and to Lisicki no less. Losing to an inspired Hantuchova isn't necessarily bad either.

Maria will win Stanford for sure if she avoids Azarenka or Serena.
The problem is Azarenka is much more consistent with results this year so I expect her to make it to the final:o maybe she will retire in the QF :oh:

Why all these wishes for Masha to meet weak players? - I wish her to meet ALL the top players and defeat them - Isn't that what a champion is supposed to do? - Masha in top form can beat Serena - Azarenka - Kvitova - Clijsters and Wozniacki - and she's nearly there

It's sad how little confidence she had last year, i think that stopped her from beating Henin, Serena and Clijsters...

This year she is full of confidence though so I expect her to do even better in the USO series than last year :D

I'd like a Serena/Maria matchup in the semifinals. Hopefully not the 2nd round (not televised :o) The more matches against top players, the better. It'll help her learn to bring her best form into GS Semis/Finals.

USO Series must to prepare Maria for the most important tournament in America: US Open.
She won't have a good workout before Slam if she play only against weak players. I wish for her tough draws and meeting difficult opponents like Azarenka, Kvitova, Li or Serena. If she play against them then she truly look at her game and know what to improve.
In this season Maria played some great tennis and I believe she still has a chance to win a Slam. But if she wanna win a Slam again she has to play against difficult opponent.

BTW. If you afraid about tough rivals now on what basis you think she'll beat them in Slam?

it's not really wishful but rather realistic thinking, seeing how messed up draws became lately in slams...The so called "elite" players are either too old, or too flukey to even reach latter stages of the slams. So when she beats up on some young player like Lisicki, you've got a myriad of haters whining about "cake draws". If that is the case, then why other "elite" players are not taking advantage of them?

I won't complain about Wimbledon draw cause there are only 4 players who can play very well on the surface so I guess for some haters it's a cake draw but in reality it's not, I can see Maria in the last four even next year.
On US courts it's a lil bit different many players are good on it and Maria will have to play few top 10 to win US so no it's not realistic, and I expect Serena and Venus to be in better form than what we saw at Wimbledon.
