A couple of Czech language interviews I found while looking for the above:

Me6IS1v29tk

And in a Goth girl outfit, on TV with the local Conan/Leno:

-z_-4I_5YDw

I don't understand a word of them. :hearts:

But any interview in her native language makes it clear that her inarticulateness in English is down solely to poor command of the language.

Great clip man!

So basically, if you ever happen upon chance to get a date with Petra... take her to a sad movie and buy her earings :P If you're trying to pry Bara away from her man, don't invite her for dinner, but rather make a date with her adventurous (according to her, that's what she's into).

The girls are just talking about fashion sense, things that they like n that kind of crap. All of them look really pretty in this. Really surprised with how well Lucie looked all done up n fancy. Can only imagine it would be a proper laugh to go out with them for a night, seem a fun bunch when they're together.

Well, she isn´t exactly an Einstein intelligence-wise, that´s for sure, but she´s sufficiently articulate in her native language. ;)

And even her English has actually improved a lot since last Wimbledon. :) :)

Those returns of serve against Wickmayer were absolutely brutal. I felt bad for Wickmayer, it made her look like a juniors player rather than a top 25 player.

This might be a very good time to put here highlights from Petra´s match against Wozniacki in Beijing (2010). She lost 3:6, 2:6, but (at least) the first set was much closer than the score suggets. Petra had breakpoints inf first to Wozniacki´s service games, then she broken her serve to get back into the set (3:4) and in the last two games of the first set she lead 40:15 on her serve and on Wozniacki´s serve each time.

Thus, Petra actually had game points in four of six games that she lost in the first set.

By the way, the most amusing thing about the previous vid is that after Petra hit her retun in net on match point, Wozniacki´s father celebrated as if his daughter had just won a grand slam tournament or whatever. :) :) :)

OK, but Wozniaki is definitely tougher to beat on hardcourts than on grass where she appears quite helpless (even against Cibulková in the last two sets).

So I was interested in how that match in Beijing 2010 actually went. Considering that Wozz had the best results of her life and Petra just about the worst results of her tennis career around that time and that Petra´s game certainly hugely improved since last year´s Autumn, it wasn´t actually that bad, at least in the first set. After all, apart from the three games that Petra won in the first set she had game points in (at least) four of the rest six games. :)

I'll never forget that winner she hit Against Alexa Glatch in her first game (Hope it's there, didn't watch the video yet).

Petra had ran to the extreme top left corner, and lofted a stretched, spin around defensive back hand high in the air toward the middle of the court. Now Petra faked to the middle on the top baseline (Wozniaki style), than ran back to the corner (as Glatch hit there), and Petra hit a screaming, crouching DTL backhand winner from 15 feet behind the baseline. Pow! Glacth didn't even move! It was incredible! It also showed Petra's improved, underrated defense.

I know she hit a lot of great shots in Wimby, but that one was the most memorable/shocking/fascinating winners to me.

Oh. It's 17-18 seconds on the video (when she/her racquet makes that sound "Ah-hi"). But you don't get to see the build up, or her scrambling, mind you the defensive backhand half volley/pick up lob that preceded it.

She also had a crazy, dominating rally (the announcer even said "dominating the rally") with Wickamayer, that's on another video that was incredible to watch.

She had so many!

What was amazing to me was the number of shots where the opponent wasn't or couldn't get within a meter of the ball!

After a while that had to be pretty demoralizing to some of them. Masha sure was looking dejected by the end of her Finals butt whooping.

I love the video of her at 4 yo. Pretty nice technique already- she releases the wrist actively through the contact point rather than keeping it laid back for too long and being late. The hair video is cute too, although I don't quite understand it- was it a challenge to do it in a certain time? Or did she just feel like fixing her hair and they were already filming?

Verrrryy Nice/cute Follow Up Wimbledon Interview With Petra, by Sue Barker at the BBC (with Help from TopTenTennisNetwork) at their fancy off court studio.

It's 4.44 long. Excellent video and sound quality, by the way.

I noticed with only one interviewer (as opposed to a roomful of hungry reporters, fearing she'll never get out), Petra's English appears much more relaxed (with longer and more fluid, reflective sentences) than at other times. Enjoy!

Basically my worst nightmare is going there with my GF, because there aren't really any decent sports bars around there where I can go and kick back a few beers until she's done shopping. Jagr's bar is up the hill... and so is Zlata Hvezda, but they could really do with a good sports bar on Na Prikope. Theyve built that street up so much over the last few years, the least thing they could do would be to throw in a decent sports bar.

@fogmount You're funny. It was a quick question at All Access Hour. I said did you watch that popular YouTube video. She did & liked it. :)

@fogmount I said it was kind of fun to see the reactions of the opponents too, no? And she said, oh no, not like that. :)

Talking about fashion is there anything you would never wear ? Hmm something after my granmother.
What kind of fashion accessories is a must for you ? I love earrings. I´m obessed with them.
Look today al 4 of us have the same earrings
I know you have a lot movies in your notebook. From the latest what do you like? I like sad movies. It makes you forget what is happening on the court. It makes me quite. That there is not only tennis . But right now I have no ideas.
When you want a new movie go to Petra, she has everything. You sure listen to ipod before a match. What pumps you?
I have nothing special, I take random selection. And whatever plays but somehing fast.
No romance. Petra is happy person, so much optimistic. Is there something to make you angry? I never saw you angry. I appreciate it becasue me and Bara we could not do that.
I´m angry when I make mistakes on the court . But otherwise I don´t know.
See . Petra is laid-back.
Is there a person you want to meet ? hmm A sportsman. You got tricky questions. I´m sweating.
I told you, you was able to look at them . With who do you want to play mixed double ?
With Rogirek
Petra is watching „Ordinace v*Růžové Zahradě“ (note Czech Tv series for women from hospital )
Bara : Is this normal ?
How patient she is. She watched it as online stream on tournaments. It is slow, often crashed. She can watch 1 episode for 5 hours . I would broke it.
I have only 2 episodes left.

She returned today (on Tuesday) video taken in prostejov
I returned earlier than expected. I´m fit only tired. I was sleeping for 2 hours. Perhaps I will go to bed for today.
Q You said after first few matches in Tokyo that you are playing you game again ? It was much better in Tokyo, surface was faster. So it was incling to my side, I feel good but unfortunately the result with Zvonareva was how it was.And of course in Beijing it could be better I made a lot of unforced errros and that decided the match. I will work hard and train again.

On Istanbul Very happy and I´m looking forward to it. It´s for the first time so I´m interested how it works.
Have you studied the guideline ? I only know on Saturday there will be drawing ceremony with all players and then there is a players party.
Fed cup We didn´t talk about it

Tournament in Linz was added later to your schedule . Why ? Instanbul is playing indoor so I decided to get ready by playing indoor matches. Linz was a possibility. So we asked for a wild card and next week I will play it.

On number 5 (3:26 smiling) It´s nice I have never dreamt about it I don´ t know if anybody from my family or friends. I´m very grateful. It wouldn´t be bad to climb even more (3:52 more smiling ) Opponents no reactions, in Beijing it was mention only once in an interview. We said with David Kotyza it is very nice, there was a congratulation from my father.
Do you remember who was fifth in the world when you started with tennis ? When I was young I didn´t watch tennis. It was boring on TV. I liked more playing tennis. So I don´t remember anything.

I received some videos from Petra´s father showing young Petra playing (4:37 Petra head in hands) so I can promise we will post them on facebook like bonuses

Nice video of the Linz final. Petra didn't even look like she was trying all that hard, perhaps because her baseline kill shots were working. So many times she just serve Domi out wide and then hit the forehand into the opposite corner.

Here's Petra's demolition of Bepa from the opening RR match at Istanbul. Poor Bepa. I Iike her too, but she looks so helpless in most of these highlights. And frankly, and don't think there has ever been a female tennis player in history that could deal with Petra's A-game with success. Maybe Serena having a lights-out serving day. But if it comes to groundstrokes, and Petra's timing is on, I can't even see Graf hanging with her off the ground. Petra makes pre-2004 groundstrokes look antique.

Highlights from that Chinese Portrait interview:

Questioner: "If you were a part of your body, which part would you be?"
Petra (comical face as she doubtless thought of certain other body parts that modesty forbade her to mention): ”Um... My legs."

Good answer, Petra. They're your best part.

Questionert: "If you were a super power, which one would you be?" (stupid phrasing, should be "have", not "be")
Petra: "To be really, really fast."

It's amazing how good she is today looking back at where she came from, such humble origins. Now we know where she got her charm, humility and work ethic from. I hope she never changes.

And the best part is she's only getting started. She's only 21 and possesses such raw, limitless talent. It's scary to think how good (dominating) she will most probably be with a few more years of maturity under her belt and better conditioning. Her future's so bright she better get an awesome pair of shades; she's going to need them and so will we watching. It's going to be a great ride.

She's a good sport so she went along with it, but I don't think she'd be too excited to repeat the experience.

I can't believe she doesn't like Czech beer. Frankly, I'm shocked. I'd been thinking that's where her spare tire came from ( just kidding). At her Fulnek celebration there were Staropramen tents or banners in the background. That might explain a lot. Staropramen sucks!!!! Bluhhhh!

That Top10TEnnis Wozniaki vs Petra video has great sound and camera angles.

You really get the feel of the power of Petra, the stadium acoustics and the fervent crowd (note: I went I went on Youtube and played it. Not sure if that makes a difference).

The quirky interview was cute. I'm not sure how many people are going to see it (lol)? But the more people get see and hear Petra, the more they seem to like her.

The Jankovic video is excellent. And the next time any numbskull tells you that Petra can't move, reduce her power, construct points, play speedy players, etc. (or any other nonsense like that), besides other videos, just pop that one in.

Even for someone that watched the match you learn/notice so much about Petra's game (like her court coverage, hitting angles, volleying technique and racket head control on the run), when you see this stuff again; and sometimes we don't have time to watch entire match all over again. This definitely helps.

Azarenka played well, for her.

I've been watching women's tennis since Navratilova and Graf, and I don't think I"ve ever seen anyone with more ball-striking talent. During that 5-0 run in the first set of the Azarenka match, it seemed like every shot Petra hit was looking better --more powerful, better placed, smoother, more natural looking, less obvious effort -- than the shots of ANY female tennis player, ever.

I love the fact that she is coming to the net 20 times a match or more. All those years of watching Williams sisters win Wimbledon, I wanted someone with a big serve who would come to the freaking net. Finally, in Petra, I have my wish. Those Williams sisters were happy to win it from the baseline.

This girl is changing the game. Or at least, she's redefining it. It remains to be seen whether another generation will ever be able to develop her combination of timing and ball-striking, her aggression and touch. Perhaps these things are simply not able to be copied. Perhaps you just have to be a natural. The only shot of Serena's that looks better than Petra's is the serve in the deuce court and down the T in the Ad court. Everything else looks better in Petra's game. Can't wait for the two of them to play, because I think Petra will win, and will even make Serena look weak and helpless. And the trolls in GM will have no idea what to make of that when it happens.

There's a pretty funny video on Petra's Facebook page of the whole Czech Fed Cup team, coaches and all, singing "We Are the Champions" and drinking something. Petra looks, well, quite a bit less bashful and inhibited than usual, and I suspect that is due to the contents of her cup. She also looks like she's more into it than some of the other girls!

I've been watching women's tennis since Navratilova and Graf, and I don't think I"ve ever seen anyone with more ball-striking talent. That match was otherwordly. Two ballbashing slowpokes playing one lengthy hi-NRG rally after another while still hitting the living crap out of the ball. It looked as if they were defying the laws of physics. And that was probably one of the best - certainly one of the cleanest - matches I've ever seen Kanepi play, whole games going by without her making a single needless error. When I finished watching that (taped, late at night) I was just giddy.

mac47
Nov 14th, 2011, 03:12 AM
Kanepi should have won that match. She had match points in the second set tiebreak, and was up a break in the third.

On the other hand, you can see Petra's cool under pressure as she continued to go for winners on those match points.

I'm struck by how much better her backhand is now than in 2010. She didn't go down the line with it much in the Kanepi match. In fact, I think she generally plays much more aggressive now, hitting a forcing shot or winner sooner than in 2010 and hitting many fewer cross-court or up-the-middle rally balls. She is also attacking the net three times as often now.

One happy conclusion we can draw from the comparison of July 2010 Petra to November 2011 Petra: Serena's in big trouble next year!

I'm not sure if Hawaiian Guy or PetraTheWimblyQueen have Petra at 2010 Wimbledon, but I think one of them does. There are full matches of Jie Zhang, Azarenka, Wozniaki, and at least excellent highlights of the 2010 Wimby Kanepi match (though that may be from "PetraKvitovaFanClub").

Thanks for this! Wonderful play from Kveta and Lucie. Hradecka is an intimidating presence on a doubles court: tall and hard to lob, scary-hard groundies that she hits without fear, and creative volleys. Petschke is probably the more polished, seasoned player, and she held up her end very well, but I thought Hradecka was the best player on that court, and the difference-maker against the Russians.

Actually, I read somewhere in a czech press that she is going to play with the same model (BLX Tour) as she's been playing for a while. Only colours are supposed to change... Yeah that makes sense as well, why change it now when it's been perfectly fine? I just thought maybe she really is going to use a new frame, because this one was better suited to her or whatever

The racquet specs will be the most likely same as her current one, just a new paintjob. Will help Wilson promote this new model for sure (Racquet sponsors do this all the time, it's not unusual :p).

Just remembered I had this match and decided to make HL. It's Petra's first round in Paris against Dolonts (previously Manasieva)

LOL, very funny commercial. Petra as an actor, cute! The last lines in Czech, with Petra taking off the mike: "Ne. Tohle Vám vracím a končím. Děkuji." - "No. I am giving you this back and I'm done with you! Thank you."

BTW, Petra looks  in this dress!

Was that line really as brusque and rude as your translation sounds? "I'm done with you"? Not "with it"?

I just saw some folks complain about Petra's game on the video that Dahl just posted on You Tube. They must be bitter haters or clueless.

Don't they realize a few things:

1) Petra usually needs to work her way inform early in tournaments. So she will make more errors early in a tournament than she will make later (unless she arrives inform like she did at Wimbledon and YEC).

2) Petra could not have 6 tournaments, including a grand slam and YEC if she was the error machine they allude to (those early round performances again, they must of saw and remembered).

3) One of them even had the nerve to say something to the effect "She's overrated. when she cuts down her errors she'll be a good very player". Well; Okay! :oh:

4) Maybe they were watching old matches or Petra on a off day. The irony is, that video is 11 months old, though it was just posted. Did they even notice? :oh:

I just love how people just run their minds aimlessly, with Petra!

SMH. Gotta Love it! Lol

Mac, I have a suspicion that you speak Czech. Strictly speaking, "with it" would be a more accurate translation. I just thought that the "with you" line would sound more funny - even though a bit inaccurate - because Petra's expression made it clear that no pun was intended.

Please feel free to correct me at any time. One of the many reasons I joined this forum was to finetune my English skills with native speakers. ;)

I have actually read a few similar comments below other videos. A selection of the most entertaining ones from Youtube "experts":

"She'll be a good player but never a great player. One determining factor of great players as shown throughout history is that all great players are quick on their feet. They have agility. Kvitova is physically built where she can't be quick and agile. That's her downfall."

"Kvitova will be the new kunetsova and thats coming from a kuz fan. all the signs are there for her to be a big flop. Kuznetsova is the most athletic and talented player out there just about. Only 4 slam finals and 2 slams. Its a cruel sport but its all in her head. Kvitova will be the same, brilliant when shes on and always a 'threat' but champions always have an 'X' factor that other players dont have."

"Although neither Kvitova, nor Sharapova are very good movers like the Williams' or Clijsters, Sharapova is the better of the two"

"just hope we can have a serena and kvitova final cause kvitova is strating 2 think that shes really good... i bet serena would kick her ass"

"Petra will never ever be as good as Serena, Venus & Maria Sharapova they are the three big names Serena showed Petra how to play tennis in the Wimbledon Semi-Finals last year"

"Petra Kvitova did not deserve to win Wimbledon she stole the trophy from Serena Williams and believe me Serena will get it back and make her pay"

"Unlike most, I do not like what a Kvitova-dominated tour would look like, and l hope that it never happens.
I hope for this because I don't see anything special about her game except for her left hand...put the racket in the right hand?...completely different player"

"How do we know that Kvitova's slow unfit ASS won't hurt her back this year TRYING DESPERATELY to reach shots?"

"She does nothing better than her hard-hitting foes. If her racket was in her right hand, you would see it. Of course she blasts the ball, but it's the spin that's causing the problems for the WTA...look at people finally figuring out Nadal if you still can't see my point. As soon as her spin is figured out, she won't be winning as much."

The last three - and arrogant - contributions are from the same poster, who probably thinks that Petra is a static object, not continuing to improve her game&fitness and waiting for being figured out

@Petronius.

Yeah. I've seen a lot of stuff like that.

One of the last one's I remember (and to be honest, I usually notice the positives), was someone trying to sound like an expert, then saying "but Sharapova is the quicker of the two". What!!?????

You immediately lose your quasi, you tube expert status/rights on the spot, after saying some nonsense like that! "What match did you see?" Lol

Some Experts, huh? :oh:

:haha: Really? So basically it bothers you that some people criticize your fav? That's ridiculous. Any athlete in any sport will have his/her fair share of critics. There are people who think Peyton Manning isn't that great a QB, people who think Messi isn't a great footballer. Get used to it.

@Petronius, I don't speak a word of Czech. But I know Petra's a nice person -- you don't win player-voted sportswoman awards otherwise -- and it wouldn't be in character for her to say, "I'm done with you."

@Excelscior, you've got to enjoy the fact that there are haters. It adds a little extra pleasure whenever she wins, and gives us all plentiful material for quotations in our TF signatures.

Sorry, I didn't know that "I'm done with you." sounds so harsh in English. I can assure you there was nothing rude in that Czech line. In addition, this was not the real Petra, as she was probably instructed by Wilson staff to look offended when asked that question about the racquet.

I brought it up, cause their criticisms, were so like 2yrs ago & da video was just uploaded, for them to comment so soon, though it was almost 1yr old anyway.

Yeah guys.

While these "fans" keep criticizing and crazily accessing Petra's game (from a seemingly deep seated desire to see her lose), she'll just keep winning Championships/titles while they do so.

So hysterical indeed. ::rolleyes:

Hey guys quick question. I have Kvitova vs Wickmayer from Paris, but the quality is awful. You can barely see the ball but it was a very close match. So do you think I should make HL or not?

Also I just have to say I'm amused that some of you are bothered by these comments. All of them are SO obviously untrue that I find them hilarious  Saying that the YEC and Wimbledon Champion is overrated is just laughable. See the reason I filter comments on Woz videos is because people post downright nasty things about her that are just unnecessary. With Petra though, I get a kick out of reading comments saying she's all hype even though she beat every other slam champ this year (not to mention all on the surface which they won their slams)

BTW If Petra gets a shot at Serena in Melbourne... Gonna be a lot of unhappy Serena fans ;)

1) I say post it. Unless you're concerned about your reputation of quality; a match is better than no match. Plus, if it's anything like your first Stosur HL you worried about, it was fine.

2) We get a kick out of them to. We know it's not true. It's just the downright audacity and stupidity of the post, especially since you had just posted that video (though it as 11 months old, and one of Petra's first matches in that tournament). Lol

3) I just hope Petra wins the Australian. I don't care who she plays. It's too early for me to rag on Serena now anyway. :lick:  Lol

4) Yeah, Petra needs to develop to learn to be a champion.  :tape:

I'm guessing you don't have the Petkovic vs Kvitova Brisbane match (or you would of posted it all ready), and couldn't provide neither highlights or the full match, could you?

I actually have yet to make HL of Kvitova-Pennetta from Melbourne but aside from the Wickmayer match in Paris, those are the only ones of Petra's. I have plenty of other matches that I need to catch up on first though ;)

Some commentators even observed that when Azarenka was 0:5 in the first set of the Instanbul final, she looked close to tears (Petra then slowed down and let her into the match). And even during the pre-match interview Azarenka looked somewhat intimidated by the prospect of playing Kvitty.

Just think about this: if Petra wasn't around, Azarenka would be very likely the Madrid and YEC champ and the Wimbledon champ or finalist!

IMO, Petra has a mental edge over Azarenka and this may be crucial in the future.

I don't know how long that's going to last (if she has it at all), but you gotta know the recent history.

Not sure if you know this, but after Petra beat Azarenka last year in Wimby (and gave her a donut in the second set), Azarenka said something to the effect "everything was going in today for her. She just had a once in a lifetime game and she wasn't missing".

So then to get beat by the same person (4x in a row now) in Madrid, at Wimby again and now at the YEC, Azarenka know what time it is. She's tired of seeing Petra, especially during $$$ time! Lol

I hope it continues.

To be honest, I had some doubts before the Instanbul final, but after reading Petra's comments in the Czech press I knew she would win.

"She has some problems with my lefty serve. She likes to play quickly, quick rallies, but her game is also quite stereotypical with not many chop strokes or drop shots. She has a very good serve, but her second can be returned pretty efficiently."

I especially noted the fact that Petra regards Azarenka, to some degree, as a stereotypical player. But could you blame her when she displays much more variety than the rest of the field?

I love talking to you sometimes Petronius, cause I always feel Petra gives much better/realistic/informative/relaxed interviews to the Czech and European press in that order. Thanks for that tidbit. Lol

As far as Petra's Azarenka comments, I know/see what she means. It would make sense. That's why during their match (according to Renee Stubs, of Australia) she said Koysta insisted on Petra mixing up her shots against Azarenka and not giving her steady rhythm.

Here on TF, we believe Azarenka is just a "power grinder". That means she likes to hit the ball back harder and harder (until her opposition makes a mistake), but usually doesn't go for winners (though she did against Petra in the YEC finals, cause she knew she had to).

Petra also seemed to give honest comments, regarding playing Cibulkova at Linz. And Koytza gave very honest comments before the Wimbledon/Sharapova match, and felt quite confident in Petra winning, it appeared.

I apologize in advance for butchering Koytza's spelling, if I did?

Petra is spot-on about Azerenka's game. She's basically a grinder with little imagination on court. She can be very dangerous with her consistency and moderate amount of power, but ultimately she'll wilt against someone with all court game and more power like Petra. The best example is 3rd set of the YEC final. Vika fought as hard as she could, but she couldn't break Petra's serve, which led to her loss. She is predictable.

Petronius, could you help to translate this paragraph, thanks

Trenéra Kotyzy se lidé ptali, zda ho tenistka někdy odmítá poslouchat. "Na tréninku se s tím moc nesetkávám. Ale nechce poslouchat rádio, když řídím. Protože to si ladím podle sebe a ona můj bigbít neposlouchá. To mě štve," řekl Kotyza.
