So heres the thing I am doing a year abroad as part of my degree at university and basically I am going to be attending the University of Auckland and living in Auckland (obvs). I'm leaving here on the 6th of July.

Seeing as I have never lived abroad before I am wondering if anyone can give me any advice about Auckland, what its like to live there, stuff to do, watch out for etc.

Anything at all.

I am assuming there are a good few New Zealand peeps on this board :p

I don't live in Auckland and have only been there once. :tears:

But anyway, have a good time there. I'm sure you'll be fine. :D Since you're from Ireland the culture shock shouldn't be as bad as some countries, or even that bad at all. :p

Ireland is aware of Rugby right? Well, many Kiwis love rugby, it's the closest thing to a National sport. I don't like it personally but lots do. Might be a conversation point anyway.

Also if you love to drink on the weekends (assuming many fit that Irish stereotype :p) you'll fit right in.

Auckland itself is nothing special - NZ attractions are nature, not cities -, but if you stay there 1 year, you'll have plenty of opportunities to travel and do day trips. You can see the country on the cheap by checking out nakedbus and air deals.

Yeah rugby is big here so that will be something to chat about :)

I'm sure I'll be grand but just thought I'd see what anyone had to say about it :) :)

There is plenty to do in Auckland.

Great nightlife, great city. I work and live right beside the Uni on Symonds St and you will love it. It's right in the heart of the city with everything at walking distance.

What sort of things are you into?

Good to hear that you arrived safe and sound :yeah:

You seem to have arrived during the middle of this bizzare weather we are having at the moment. It's insanity.

Starbucks = LOVE.
