Taylor Swift > all of the other artists mentioned in this post.

If the clean sweep she got with her Fearless album is anything to go by, she definitely should get something for Speak Now. It's a far superior album.

If GaGa wins anything for the Born This Way album, they should give the award to Cher. After all, that's who she steals most of her ideas from.

So one second its Madonna she's copying, then its Bette Middler and now Cher. Make you're mind up people

How cute because Gaga wrote a song and gave it to Cher and Cher asked her to be on the song with her so a Cher song is coming out with Gaga on it that Gaga wrote! Perfect. ;)

Are you serious? LOL I can think of about 10 albums off the top of my head from the last year that are equally worthy.

Lykke Li - Wounded Rhymes (So, so much better than Adele's.)
Fleet Foxes - Helplessness Blues
Frank Ocean - Nostalgia Ultra
Kanye West - MBDTF (released in late Nov 2010 but still...)
The Dodos - No Color
TV On The Radio - Nine Types of Light
Kurt Vile - Smoke Ring For My Halo
PJ Harvey - Let England Shake
Bon Iver - Bon Iver
Cults - Cults

And there are other albums from artists like EMA, Destroyer, etc. I swear she has got to be the most hyped artist since Alicia Keys in terms of people grossly overrating her music. :o I don't get it. Musically she's about as interesting as watching paint dry. And while her voice is good, even that is overrated. There are tons of other artists whose vocal ability surpasses Adele's only they're able to create music that is actually interesting to listen to. Hopefully the Grammy's don't fall into the hype machine, but given past choices like Alicia Keys and Norah Jones, I think it's asking for too much. :o

Yeah you actually know something about music, so that's nice to see.

People don't want interesting these days, they want the same crap that has been churned out by the big labels one-hundred million times before. I could think of a million albums that are way more creative than Adele, and I don't want to pick on her because I do like her, and I like that at least she hasn't bought into the cash cow that is just churning out stupid dance music. She has remained true to herself, which is more than I can say for a lot of so called artists out there.

Unfortunately, as I said before, creativity, innovation and actually talent is never going to be rewarded at these kind of music ceremonies, the only person that came close to being a worthy winner musically here was Amy Winehouse. It's all a popularity contest anyway.

Did you forget to read the title of this thread though?
It's the Shammys.
Although I agree with everything you've said, I will never ever expect anything good of the Grammy's. And I will pretty much never care what they give out!
Adele is just the perfect fit for them. Big voice, with grand, yet middle-of-the-road content, and nothing controversial or distinct. Give her all the awards!

PS. You forgot Braids, M83, St. Vincent, Toro Y Moi, Tune-Yards. ( <3 )

She'll get nominated and probably win all of them.

She could have stretched a bit and submitted some for R&B vocals I guess.

And are you guys telling me that if artists don't submit their songs/albums for certain categories, then there's no chance they'll be nominated in that category?

The Grammys are meaningless really. Especially in certain categories where its obvious the Recording Academy voters know little about.
I just hope the performances are good this year. Whoever sweeps the show usually sets the tone for the awards. And if its Adele

Those are really the only 2 songs Adele has released in the US so far. The album is fucking epic and she should def get that one. But she planned it all wrong. She should have some more singles out. "Set Fire to the Rain" "Rumor Has It" "One and Only" "Take it All" The list goes on. This album will be around for a bit but it's not gonna get her as much as it should. She should get at least 4. I think RiRi is a darkhorse and could walk away with about 4. Beyonce doesn't really deserve anything tbh with all this "originality" she possesses. Katy  don't get me started. And GaGa, she'll flop too, this album pf hers was a let down. Britney :inlove: you get some gurl!!!!!

Why would she submit anything for something as meaningless as the Grammy? She's not making music with awards in mind unlike half the nominated divas. Besides, she's already got her Mercury, and at this point Mercury >>> Grammy.

But Benny Benassi is a dance artist and he's credited as a performer in the song. Therefore, the song was able to be submitted because of Benassi.

Hmmmm that's interesting and unfair. So I guess the dance category is now only for unpopular artists. If you're mainstream, then you have to go to pop, even if your music is dance.

Oct 27th, 2011, 10:39 PM
I would just like to address those who are confused about the Dance Field. The reason why Chris Brown's "Beautiful People" is eligible and Rihanna's "We Found Love" is not is quite simple. Benny Benassi submitted the song that was included on his album "Electroman", so it was a win-win for both Benassi and Chris Brown. The version off "F.A.M.E." wasn't submitted. Rihanna and Calvin Harris' "We Found Love" isn't featured on a Calvin Harris only album, therefore warrants its ineligiblity. I'm a Grammy voter and was informed of the new rules months back. The Academy now wishes to keep this category true to the core Dance acts that usually go on ignored here because of the mainstream acts who submit in Dance/Electronic to just rack up their total amount of nominations. I'm all for this and actually like most of the changes the Academy has made to the categories for this years show.

Rock bands in gerneral are not as popular as pop and hip hop acts today.

I have no respect for rappers that make it big cuz I don't think they're talented at all. I don't really like rap either, but I can listen to it. Not so much for the clever rapping, but the instrumentals and arrangement. Kanye's MBDTF is a perfect example, I love it.

I really despise rappers who just rap over a catchy sample i.e. Eminem's Toy Soldiers

that's simply not true. maybe they don't chart as high as pop and hip hop acts, but they traditionally do much better with their tours - and that's where the money lies today.

btw/ arcade fire's "the suburbs" entered the billboard charts at no. 1 when it was released - before their grammy. not that it matters anyway.

Dance this year is more of a Dance category. No pop singers eg. Gaga, Brit, Rihanna etc.
Although WFL will probably be nominated for Dance next year since there's a DJ credited.

We Found Love was submitted this year to the major categories (ROTY, I think?) since it was released before the deadline. I don't think it was submitted to any genres, though. Anyways, I think Calvin would have to be the main artist in order to submit to dance. Since Rihanna's the main artist it would have only been eligible in pop. If Calvin puts the song on his own album next year, then maybe it would be eligible. That's how Chris Brown's "Beautiful People" was eligible for dance; Benny Benassi put the song on his own album.

that's simply not true. maybe they don't chart as high as pop and hip hop acts, but they traditionally do much better with their tours - and that's where the money lies today.

btw/ arcade fire's "the suburbs" entered the billboard charts at no. 1 when it was released - before their grammy. not that it matters anyway.

well, that says more about you than arcade fire to be honest.Could very well be just me. I probably gave their album a listen on iTunes when it was first released and fell asleep while listening. Woke up and probably forgot who they were.

I was so happy when Arcade Fire won last year. Even Kanye was excited for them

I mostly listen to alternative rock so it was refreshing to see the Grammys recognize that side of rock instead of the old veteran side which they overpraise (U2, Robert Plant, Paul McCartney, etc.)

I listen to a variety of genre that includes pop, rock, classics, country. The only thing I will NOT listen to is rap. I hate it with a passion and don't consider them music. I have no respect for rappers that make it big cuz I don't think they're talented at all. Everytime I see Drake's Sprite commercial in movie theaters (acting like he wasn't feeling it & then took a sip of sprite and he's all inspired and started rapping as if he's all that) I just laugh at it. Honestly I'm not trying to bash what's their name...oh yeah The Suburbs Arcade Fire, I'm sure they deserved their Grammys I just personally don't care for them.

I agree, to me, Rap is the most over-rated genre of music ever. That people like Lil Wayne, Jay Z, Drake ("The square root of 69 is 8 something, right ?" :o) and Kanye etc can make a living speaking/reading dumb lyrics set to similar tunes makes me wonder  That most of them are so arrogant and full of themselves makes me dislike them even more.

And, yes I am a Britney fan.

Two of the most idiotic posts I've read on this forum and that's saying a lot. You both obviously know nothing about the genre of hip hop nor do you know anything about any artists outside the mainstream, so why generalize something you're unfamiliar with and don't even understand? Such ignorance.

The genre of hip hop/rap has some of the most talented musicians ever, not to mention some of the most socially conscious and thought provoking music you could listen to.

From artists like The Roots to Immortal Technique to Atmosphere to 2Pac to Outkast to Nas... The genre was a way for the disenfranchised to convey everyday struggles. I won't deny that I'm no fan of most mainstream rap, but don't tell me that artists like those listed above (and countless others) aren't talented because they create wonderful art. How anyone listen to a song like Dance With The Devil or Brenda's Got A Baby or That Thing and say it didn't take talent is beyond me.

Hometown Glory is my favorite Adele song ever. 19 got her Best New Artist, it's not like it was ignored. You have to remember that artists (and actors) don't always get the awards for their "best" work. Glad to see Cut Copy and Robyn nominated. As much as I like Robyn, Cut Copy clearly deserve to take the award home.

Best Rock Performance and Best Rock Song should go to Lotus Flower. Its competition is quite laughable. Under normal circumstances, Radiohead should win most categories they were nominated for, i.e. not gonna happen.

And of course Foster The People would make it to the list. Their album was painfully average, I'm not even surprised they got nominated.

Album of the Year and the other main categories are a joke as usual.

 @ Bee's nomination.

Mumford and Sons FTW :yeah:. I'm not a huge fan but that song's best out of that bunch.

You clearly haven't heard of Bon Iver then. Mumford & Sons are quite rubbish and even more so compared to Mr. Beard.

Yeah the "new" artist category confuses me too. The only Bon Iver song I've heard is Woods and that must've been from 2 or 3 years ago.

Eh disagree. For Emma shits ALL over Bon Iver. It was a far better album. Bon Iver was a bit disappointing, but still great.
And you clearly have never seen Mumford & Sons perform live.

But then again, anything from Sigh No More shouldn't be nominated since..it's from 2009/early 2010.

Grammy's...so confusing.

Hold on. When I said Bon Iver I meant the singer not the album. I personally prefer For Emma over the self-titled which was still good.

I did hear them live and my opinion of them did not change.

Ah.
Well I still think that Sign No More was a better album than Bon Iver (the album). But For Emma is one of the best albums of the 2000s. Which is why I find it laughable that Bon Iver (the album) is getting recognition when For Emma got almost none from the academy at all.

I'm expecting Adele to clean up either way.

Pink nabbed a nomination. That's all I care about. :p

Adele's going to sweep everything though. :) :yeah:

And Rihanna's nomination is like Katy's the year before and also Ne-Yo that other year.

The industry politics at the Grammy noms this year (and most years) are just embarrassing. They've long since become irrelevant just like most award shows because they don't reward talent and great music anymore. At least the VMAs are shameless in their outrageousness and don't try to be something they're not.

The funniest categories are the album category and RnB Album. Kanye not getting nominated for Album is beyond ridiculous. And then there's Beyonce who always routinely sweeps the RnB album category with her crappy-ass pop albums, and yet the one time she actually creates a fully RnB/Soul album of substance and quality, she doesn't get a single nomination. And where are Jill Scott and Miguel?

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I am confused more than anything. The fact that IASF can get 6 Grammys, and 4 is paid filth. BDAY only got one Grammy too. Their version of Beyonce at her best is very different from mine :tape::tape:

1+1 getting no nod is beyond me. All so confusing. But whatever.

The album got very little exposure sadly.

Also, "Firework" deserved a video nomination…
