Kaia always climbs up the rankings just to go down the next season again. :o Well I hope she can do better in Palermo, where she has a title to defend. :o

Enjoy your 2 weeks off and learn how to make less than 34 UEs in 17 games.
2008 was a good year for Kaia, 2009 was :help:, 2010 was a great year for Kaia, 2011 has been :o:o so far. Maybe next year she plays good again

Well Kaia isn't playing a good season, therefore it's clear that sooner or later she'll drop in the rankings. Top 20 is waaaay to high for her. For Sara it's a good win, didn't think she could pull this one off on grass.

Not really surprising. Last year Kaia had a chance to play a lot of matches on grass playing in qualis and her overall confidence was much higher, and form was better. But before that she didn't really do much on grass:shrug:

Congrats to Sara:)

It's all about confidence.

After a few bad losses, her confidence is down to nothing.

It's really sad to see her results.
She is such a nice player.

On grass she is easily Top 5 with a cance for the smis everytime she plays here.
Last year she was up 5-1 (!) in the final set against Kvitova (in the quarters).

And now she wins 5 games against Errani on grass.
Thats very disappointing.

Credit to Errani.
In my opinion she is one of the best fighters on tour.
She is so solid.
She always wins against worse ranked opponents.
She always loses against higher ranked opponents.
Her losses this year were against Cibulkova, Peng, Venus, Hantuchova, Stosur, Clijsters, Azarenka, Zvonareva, Pavl, Schiavone, Azarenka, Hantuchova.

Only her loss against Hradecka in Barcelona was a bit surprising.

Her worst loss (considering the ranking of the opponent) was her loss against Erakovic on grass.
That really shows that grass is not her best surface.

I still can't imagine how she beat Kanepi on grass.

Unforced Errors:
Errani 8
Kanepi 34

Kanepi is a strange one. She seems to spend half her time on the tour diligently working her way up the rankings until she finds herself in the top 20, and the rest of the time she seems to spend in freefall plummeting down the rankings until she finds herself out of the top 100.

Maybe she just enjoys the challenge of working her way from outside the top 100 into the top 20 and once she reaches the top 20, she would rather just start over again from outside the top 100 and repeat the process all over again. Seems like Kaia's latest descent is gathering pace right now. No doubt she will be back winning matches again at some point but this does seem a peculiar way to manage a tennis career.

Well done by the way to Sara and she looks like she has a fine chance of going further too. :yeah:

I picked this as an upset as Kanepi has not beaten anyone top 50 for a couple of months and managed to lose to Arina Rodionova, who barely got into Wimby qualies, at Birmingham. Errani was one of the highest-ranked non-seeds and not the player to face when you are in shaky form and she has won rounds here before. So no surprise.

So frustrating to see a player with so much game get a result like this :help:

Hope she can pull the finger out and get some runs on the board in the summer.
