Alison  Such a good match for her but really bad for Zvonareva. Just goes to show how mediocre of a player she is getting punished left and right.

Good play from Alison. That point to save the first break point at 4-3 in the final set :worship:

Vera  needs to step it up to have any chance against Venus if they meet.

Leave it to Bepa to turn a simple run to the bakery into a 3-set Odyssey of awful. Too much fodder for the haters in this one ...

Riske has a decent grass game, but when she got close to the win, she choked big time.
Not a good start for Vera, but like with Oudin at the USO, players dont take these young players seriously enough.
Vera should be tougher against players she knows

Thankgod, play better please.

Alison got the crowd into the match :). She should be happy with that performance, sure we will see more of her at Wimbledon in the future.

You won't be able to defend your points with this level of play Vera.

Phew. Glad Vera survived, and if Alison had been playing anyone else (not named Vika ) I would've been rooting for her. Good showing.

I'm so shocked at this result... Still struggling to come to terms with Riske taking a set off Zvonareva:o. Please Zvonareva, you must raise your level of play in your next match:facepalm:

Riske played some terrific points. Those half-volleys and that angled FH in the final set were superb! I hope she can translate this form onto the hard-courts.

booring zvonareva, in the interview she ALWAYS says the same things, i'm just looking at my game, i look foreward to the next match, i have to stay focused, bla bla bla, she should change disk a little bit

She always gets AWFUL Wimbledon draws... seriously she would have beaten almost every unseeded girl in the draw.

Looks like Alison will be getting some wild cards this summer  GREAT match for her, especially impressive with how she recovered after losing the first set 6-0.

Vera was goddamn awful and every time Lindsay Davenport mentioned that she's a finalist last year made me cringe even more!

Lindsay was so bitchy towards Vera

Something about how she doesn't have quite a huge serve etc etc
It's like she herself couldn't believe Vera reached Wimbledon finals last year :o

Fantastic match (!) of womens tennis.

Both players played very good.

The first set was excellent from Zvonareva who nearly hit any errors.
The secong set was stormy and well planed grass court tennis (with a lot of superb net approaches) from Riske.

The third set was tight until 3-3.
Then Zvonareva was just the player who made less errors.

Zvonareva was a little bit passive from time to time but thats her game. She tried to counterpunch. Her service was good, her defense was very good. Her attitude is good as well.

I really think that some of the seeds (and some of the Top 10 as well) would have lost against this young aggressive player who just played the best match of her career.

Lindsay wasn't being bitchy, she critiques everyone that way!

Anyway, Riske has a lot of potential and played very well.

Bepa :tape: I love you, but that was awful. Not sure what happened in the second set, but she will have to step up her game massively if she wants to get further. Especially when (presumably) she plays Venus.

She should easily beat players like Pironkova and Vesnina :(

Lindsay still thinks she should be out there on Tour. Her own fault for not following the golden rule: "No glove, no love."

The statistics.

Zvonareva 22 Winners, 15 errors, 6 aces, 2 df.

That's not bad.

It's not bad but she should never have lost the second set.
It was a lack of concentration and hopefully she will learn from it.

Danger.

Congrats to Vera :yeah: I didn't think she could have lost after the bagel :)

In fairness, Riske actually played extremely well. She has a great game for Grass.
I still don't Zvonareva losing before she gets to Venus in R4... she's actually one of the mentally toughest players in the game now when it comes to surviving against the rank-and-file, as we saw today.

:cheer: Now defeat Vesnina.

That will be quite the mental match where if Vesnina plays her, she will be embolden.

She knows she can mentally outtough Vera just on the appearance of her being the "leader" when they were doubles partners last year.

After the second set I was really hoping Riske would win and it looked likely at the start of the third. She gave it away though with some pretty bad errors towards the end. Bad match from Zvonareva, I dont see her doing as well this year.

Vera is in Venus' section, so she is going to have to play much better than this to get past the round of 16

I thought it was a really fun and interesting match. There were some great points played today. Riske played well and its nice to see a player who likes coming into the net and knows what to do when she gets there.
