Jun 20th, 2011, 12:21 PM :scared: Noctis Jun 20th, 2011, 12:21 PM QUEEN VEE  FORZA SARITA Jun 20th, 2011, 12:22 PM Happy for Venus :) but Akgul is barely winning games against every opponent so :o Phil=) Jun 20th, 2011, 12:22 PM Very good Vee :hearts: And Akgul played fairly well  Banditoo Jun 20th, 2011, 12:22 PM Vee is back! joćo. Jun 20th, 2011, 12:22 PM KDK now :o doomsday Jun 20th, 2011, 12:23 PM I'm glad she is not in Maria's half:lol: very convincing win. Cat's Pajamas Jun 20th, 2011, 12:23 PM Venus was in good form and she was not having any nonsense today. Then again Akgul didn't really make her work that hard. Her match with Kimiko should be interesting. Go Venus! :cheer: AchillesHell Jun 20th, 2011, 12:23 PM Good job vee nevetssllim Jun 20th, 2011, 12:23 PM Well done Venus. :yeah: So good to see her back and playing well. Vaxey Jun 20th, 2011, 12:23 PM Great match for Venus :) Really nice stats, good score, she's in form. Congrats :yeah: Imperfect Angel Jun 20th, 2011, 12:23 PM Well expected. Akgul is almost like a hitting partner for Vee.  Some actually good winners from her though, especially in the first set. Please have mercy on Kimiko, Vee.:p Serenita Jun 20th, 2011, 12:24 PM :cheer::cheer::cheer: L'Enfant Sauvage Jun 20th, 2011, 12:24 PM Akgul played a great first set. Venus was just too good. For a routine beatdown it was still a pretty enjoyable match, both rushing the net on almost every other point(Please keep doing that Vee.) There were a few really good shots. Forehand was a little glitchy at times, I think her UEs came mostly if not solely off of that wing. TheEmpress Jun 20th, 2011, 12:24 PM Both girl played well. Vee was pretty impressive :worship: Good match to kick off Wimbledon ! moodin0931 Jun 20th, 2011, 12:24 PM Baby Vee! ;) Светльо Jun 20th, 2011, 12:24 PM Queen Vee :hearts: kept the peasants waiting for the glamorous arrival of the true royalty :inlove: supergrunt Jun 20th, 2011, 12:25 PM Venus :D ! Andy. Jun 20th, 2011, 12:25 PM Great start to the tournament from Venus. Godis Jun 20th, 2011, 12:27 PM Good job Vee. On to next match, Pops Maellard Jun 20th, 2011, 12:27 PM Hell to the yes! :cheer: new-york Jun 20th, 2011, 12:28 PM Hopefully Kimiko will test her. :D moby Jun 20th, 2011, 12:30 PM Akgul is slow, inconsistent and has no return of serve... Venus didn't have to break a sweat. VishaalMaria Jun 20th, 2011, 12:32 PM Akgul played some really nice shots and moved Venus around quite a lot with her forehand and her drop shots. As I said before, she should have her head held up high with the quality of some shots she hit. It'll be a good learning experience. It was a good match for Venus. I hope Kimiko provides a bigger test though. serenaforever Jun 20th, 2011, 12:33 PM STUNNING! :hearts: Svetlana))) Jun 20th, 2011, 12:34 PM Great serving by Vee! Next! V-MAC Jun 20th, 2011, 12:35 PM Very solid start:cool: sluggahjells Jun 20th, 2011, 12:37 PM Really deceiving scoreline, as Akgul played really well in this match. Venus in full flight in the 2nd, Jankovic will not test her if she is on this form in Round 3 (if she makes it to Round 3). friendsita Jun 20th, 2011, 12:38 PM 7 Aces 1 DF 23 Winners 5 UE http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lmu1befbEJ1qcxh43o1_250.gif 18majors Jun 20th, 2011, 12:40 PM Impressive show of force by Venus. Ntosake Jun 20th, 2011, 12:40 PM Good opener for you, Venus! First time seeing Akgul on court, nice game from her. sandv1 Jun 20th, 2011, 12:42 PM Venus looks ready to party! SA0c_ECs0XA& :yeah: LANGAM Jun 20th, 2011, 12:44 PM Yay:bounce::bounce: Keep up the attitude and she may have a good chance at this tournament. VishaalMaria Jun 20th, 2011, 12:44 PM Really deceiving scoreline, as Akgul played really well in this match. Venus in full flight in the 2nd, Jankovic will not test her if she is on this form in Round 3 (if she makes it to Round 3). You don't know what the weather conditions are going to be like and what sort of level Jankovic is going to be in. We saw this at Eastbourne. Ana, lets face it, is hopeless at doing anything with the ball and Venus came out of that match looking GRASS GOAT. It wasn't until she was tested and the conditions were windy did she play so passively and was unable to impose her game effectively. Akgul did play well in parts, but you don't know if Venus played play because she played well and was too good or whether Akgul's game overall isn't a high standard right now. There is a difference. bandabou Jun 20th, 2011, 12:46 PM Go Vee! :bounce: Serena tomorrow! :scared: Igor_Biscan Jun 20th, 2011, 12:46 PM Venus played REALLY well this match, aggressive but hardly any of the random errors you usually see from her. Akgul played quite well and hit some good winners too LANGAM Jun 20th, 2011, 12:49 PM 7 Aces 1 DF 23 Winners 5 UE Impressive stats. Anthony. Jun 20th, 2011, 12:50 PM Great Serving Craig. Onto KDK. :armed: serenafann Jun 20th, 2011, 01:00 PM Good job,Vee. MBM Jun 20th, 2011, 01:04 PM Awesome match (good level from Akgul at times). Fantastic movement from Vee heheheeeeee Jalil Sherman Jun 20th, 2011, 01:08 PM Akgul is slow, inconsistent and has no return of serve... Venus didn't have to break a sweat. Akgul moved quite well in that first set. I was impressed. And didn't she beat Jankovic last year? mdterp01 Jun 20th, 2011, 01:08 PM Great start from The Queen. That shouldve been the scoreline though. Not much of a test. One match at a time. Keep it up Queen. xr6turbo Jun 20th, 2011, 01:22 PM :cheer: jefrilibra Jun 20th, 2011, 01:32 PM Venus was really awesome. One of her best 1st rd matches at Wimby imo! John. Jun 20th, 2011, 01:52 PM Venus :cheer: kwilliams Jun 20th, 2011, 02:08 PM Keep it up Venus!! As other have said, I hope Date-Krumm provides a good test (but not too much of a good test!) before a likely encounter with JJ in round 3! sky20748 Jun 20th, 2011, 02:12 PM Eastborne gave Venus some much needed match play. Yes she lost to DH but still she went 3 sets, got to hit the ball and be on court on grass. Not the ideal setup she wanted but I am actually ok that she lost in the quarters as the weather messed up alot and it would have taken time away from Venus and playing 2 matches in 1 day could have hindered her more than help her. Here she will get days off and recoup. Go Venus. its ur time chica lol miffedmax Jun 20th, 2011, 02:14 PM Vee looked to be back in pretty good form. Hopefully she can keep it up. Danger. Jun 20th, 2011, 02:21 PM Venus :bounce: I watched just the first season, but I'm happy she won the second more easily :yeah: Akgul btw  She isn't that bad, but she clearly doesn't deserve currently to be in Top 100  winone23 Jun 20th, 2011, 02:30 PM http://24.media.tumblr.com/tumblr_lmx14npKce1qg8tmso1_500.gif :lol: winone23 Jun 20th, 2011, 02:33 PM Well Done Venus! sluggahjells Jun 20th, 2011, 02:38 PM You don't know what the weather conditions are going to be like and what sort of level Jankovic is going to be in. We saw this at Eastbourne. Ana, lets face it, is hopeless at doing anything with the ball and Venus came out of that match looking GRASS GOAT. Again, on this level, no matter the conditions, Venus will beat Jelena any time. She hit her spots on her serve today, and she played good defense in that 2nd set. And it wasn't like Akgul was played bad defense herself. She was moving better than I'd ever seen her move, and she was doing a great job of drop shoting and mixing it up. And, if you noticed instead of not thinking this through fully like you did, you would know that Eastbourne is arguably the WINDEST tournament, with the US Open next, while Wimbledon isn't really all that windy. dsanders06 Jun 20th, 2011, 02:53 PM You don't know what the weather conditions are going to be like and what sort of level Jankovic is going to be in. We saw this at Eastbourne. Ana, lets face it, is hopeless at doing anything with the ball and Venus came out of that match looking GRASS GOAT. It wasn't until she was tested and the conditions were windy did she play so passively and was unable to impose her game effectively. Sorry, she did NOT play passively against Hantuchova last week, she was actually playing too aggressively, given the conditions. I bet you also think she played passively against Pironkova last year, even though she made 30 unforced errors in a match that barely lasted 90 minutes (pretty much the exact OPPOSITE of playing passively). Anyway, good to see Venus getting off to such a good start. The women's game really needs to have a heavyweight Grand Slam final at last (a Venus-Sharapova final would be perfect). Although it's meant to get VERY windy later in the week, which might play havoc with Venus's game.... I see her match against Jankovic, if it happens, going to 3 sets, but I doubt Jankovic will have the confidence to actually pull it off. shoryuken Jun 20th, 2011, 02:54 PM Yay go Vee! :bounce: dsanders06 Jun 20th, 2011, 02:54 PM And, if you noticed instead of not thinking this through fully like you did, you would know that Eastbourne is arguably the WINDEST tournament, with the US Open next, while Wimbledon isn't really all that windy. Wind speeds of up to 20mph are forecast by the end of the week. JN Jun 20th, 2011, 02:56 PM :yeah: NJ88 Jun 20th, 2011, 02:59 PM Great match from Venus. Her serve and ground strokes were working very well, as was her net play. Looks pretty encouraging in this tournament. I think she could be a sleeper to win the whole thing. ICHUSE2 Jun 20th, 2011, 03:46 PM GO Venus!!!!!!!!!!! Great Match...Love the Dress:cool:!!!!! ICHUSE2 Jun 20th, 2011, 03:52 PM I Agree shoryuken Jun 20th, 2011, 04:04 PM Her outfit is getting more attention than this thread  Michael! Jun 20th, 2011, 04:12 PM Great start from Venus, nice play :D but the outfit  2moretogo Jun 20th, 2011, 04:36 PM I liked what I saw. She came to the net on her terms and even though she got passed a few times she took her time and didn't rush the sitters. I am more heartened by the time it took. Wrapped it up in about an hour. SoClose Jun 20th, 2011, 04:57 PM Keep it up Vee!!!And her outfit is not that bad ,actually I like it!!!Good luck against Date! MaruSharapova Jun 20th, 2011, 05:32 PM Good job! :yeah: Calypso Jun 20th, 2011, 05:52 PM C'mon Venus! Jun 20th, 2011, 08:56 PM Great start!!! cn ireland Jun 20th, 2011, 09:25 PM Good win Venus:yeah: tonythetiger Jun 20th, 2011, 09:29 PM Great start. Let's hope she doesn't peak too soon. I liked the outfit. DemWilliamsGulls Jun 20th, 2011, 09:33 PM Very clean today from Venus I was happy with what I saw. But then again her opponent isn't a good grass court player and had many 1rst round losses so...anwyay..a win is a win...and she played well...just keep it up big vee! NO MERCY! tennisbum79 Jun 20th, 2011, 09:34 PM Both girl played well. Vee was pretty impressive :worship: Good match to kick off Wimbledon ! I get nervous when Vee plays this well in one match, because her patteren has been to follow with a crappy match next. I enat to be wrong swim4life227 Jun 20th, 2011, 10:25 PM Akgul did play well in parts, but you don't know if Venus played play because she played well and was too good or whether Akgul's game overall isn't a high standard right now. There is a difference. You can say that she had a +18 differential in winners/UE so she was playing pretty good out there. Seeing as 23 winners came off of HER racquet. Nice match for Venus. She needs to keep up the big serving like she did in this match and Eastbourne against Ana. Her footwork isn't a precise yet but if she keeps up that kind of serving it really doesn't matter how good her groundies or footwork are. ico4498 Jun 20th, 2011, 10:43 PM Vee! nadlinds Jun 20th, 2011, 10:46 PM Great start Venus :) :bounce::bounce: azinna Jun 20th, 2011, 11:02 PM If she keeps playing this positively and cleanly, she can wear whatever she wants. She served well, did some beautiful little dropshots, cross-court passing shots, lots of variety..she played some incredible points :hearts: And the score really didn't do justice to the level that she played at in this match. (Yes, I was actually there for the match & she was getting a lot of respect from the crowd for her shots) Really wish that some of the Venus fans in this thread would be a bit more humble and give credit to the opposition sometimes, Venus did work hard in that match (and remember she lost in R2 of Eastbourne....so nothing to brag about there :o ) All in all, it was a really good match - it wasn't as one-sided as some of you would like think and I'm still proud of the way Akgul handled that match, her first time against a Williams' sister!! :worship: Infiniti2001 Jun 21st, 2011, 03:36 PM This. :worship: I agree, Akgul did play very well in that match!!
