Waiting for Venus to turn up (she's over 10 minutes late, while Amanmuradova is just sitting and waiting), I was thinking: Has a player actually ever just not turned up?

Also, is there a time limit or fine for being late?

Surely there must be. On a sidenote, without being a crank straight away, Venus is already acting like a diva and it's just bad manners...

LOL. No way. Did she forfeit the match?

She was spotted near court, then she said she needs to go to the toilet but no one saw her after that. Her opponent got a w/o

Didn't Venus do this before? LOL. Bless 'er.

You're probably thinking of Serena - in 2009 she was 5ish minutes late to her match at Court 2; she said she was waiting inside for someone to come and escort her to the court because that's how it works on Centre Court and Court 1.

Didn't Venus do this before? LOL. Bless 'er.

She arrived ten minutes late last year, against Groth

I didn't know the procedure for Court Two, so I was waiting on someone to get me," Williams explained later. "No-one came. So eventually I just came out."

Everything was looking up until one afternoon, the outdoorsman noticed the weather seemed perfect for fishing. Trouble is, that was the day Jensen was scheduled for a Wimbledon mixed doubles match. Oops. The small mistake soon made sports pages around the tennis world.
“Strange things happen in the world of professional tennis. You never know if you’re going to be playing when the fishing is great. I decided to go. Instead of playing, I went fishing. Mixed doubles isn’t the least important thing but not the most important. It was definitely not good to misread the match time. Brenda, my partner, had to play Steffi Graf in singles. People made it a bigger deal than it was,” Murphy says.

From wikipedia

Later in the year, Lenglen seemed to be on course for her seventh Wimbledon singles title. However, Lenglen unknowingly kept Queen Mary waiting in the Royal Box for her appearance in a preliminary match. Lenglen, who had been told that her match would not start until much later, fainted upon being informed of her error, which was seen by aristocratic English attendees as an insult to the monarchy. Lenglen withdrew from the tournament, which would be her last appearance at the courts of Wimbledon.

OK, this is strange:

I didn't know the procedure for Court Two, so I was waiting on someone to get me," Williams explained later. "No-one came. So eventually I just came out."

Some reports claim it was Serena in 2009, 3rd round on Court #2 (def. Roberta Vinci 6-3, 6-4) - other reports claim it was Venus in 2010, 4th round on Court #2 (def. Jarmila Groth 6-4 7-6'5).

Did they both do it?!?!

Maybe he had been arrested for hiring a prostitute and spent the night in jail, like he once did in Sweden:

It almost happened to Seles once according to her. Monica's locker was next to Navratilova's back B4 Martina I got the player doggie areas created. Martina's chihuahua or whatever wouldn't let Monica get her racquet bag to go on court until the Le, Le, Lefthander came back to the lockerroom to get her doggie out of the way.

I think Lena D. says she forfeited a match once because she had the wrong time. It was ITF I think.
