View Full Version : VENUS vs Schnyder

Nov 3rd, 2002, 08:51 PM
VENUS will be playing Patty Schnyder in her first round of the WTA Championships on Wednesday, the 6th.

This will not be a routine match for VENUS because Patty has been playing recently and has just com off a nice win over Davenport.
VENUS has been in one event since the Open and she suffered a surprise loss to an inspired Maleeva in that event.

Even though VENUS usually starts off tournaments slow and Patty is a quality opponent, I expect the Goddess to squeeze the juice out of the Swiss player in two tough sets.

I say three sets Venus wins something like 6-3, 4-6, 6-4! GO PATTY!!!!

Nov 3rd, 2002, 08:56 PM
Straight sets Venus.. after being down a break in both sets.

Nov 3rd, 2002, 08:57 PM
I think two tough sets for Venus or 2-1 to Venus with venus losing the first set and routinely win the next two

GO PATTY! Beat Williams! You beat Serena, Jenn, Amelie, Lindsay and Daniela this year so now add Venus to your list of casualties!!!!

Venus will trash PATTY! GOO VENUS!!!

Nov 3rd, 2002, 09:52 PM
Most knowledgable fans seem to believe that VENUS will take care of Patty as she has done in the past.

Good luck Patty :) This will be tough but I honestly think she can do it :)

Nov 4th, 2002, 03:56 AM
Yeah I think Patty can pull off an upset, her in 3 tough sets:)

Nov 4th, 2002, 04:08 AM
Patty has the game to beat Venus. Venus being idle for the past weeks can be beaten in this tournament.

Nov 4th, 2002, 04:24 AM
I agree, but Vee usually follows a hickup with a bang
and i have a hunch she'l want to put Serena in her place

If the meeting was past the first round, then Patty wouldn't have a chance against Venus but, hey, Venus must be sleepless by now just thinking about Patty.:p

Nov 4th, 2002, 06:58 AM
Venus will win the two sets. Go Venus!

venus will win this 6/2 6/1.

Need I say more?

Nov 4th, 2002, 01:51 PM
Well, I think Venus will probably win but... I hope PATTY will TRASH her (sorry, just reversing the "trashing" sentiment in the thread) :D.

Nov 4th, 2002, 05:24 PM
How many sets has Patty Taken off Venus does anybody know. I see that their head to head is 4-0 in Venus' favor. So at most Patty is 4-8 in sets . Smart Money is on Venus Williams. As talented as patty snyder is, I just really cant see her taking out Venus after the solid year venus has had. Even if Venus is rusty i see venus still winning in 2 easy sets.Patty does not trouble Venur in my opinion. Patty hits high loopy balls . Venus loves high looping balls so she hit better angles on her winners. this is a no brainer. Venus in 2 sets, not losing more than 6 or 7 games. Not to mention this match is at night, giving Venus a stage to entertain.Venus wont lose before the finals, just like she has done most of the year. Expect Venus to meet her little sister in the final and get her a little bit of revenge.

hmmm don't underestimate Patty!!! I think it's going to be a though one for Venus and Patty has a chance against her. Even when having lost the previous meetings!!

Allleeezzz Patty!!!!!

Of course Patty has chances. She beat Serena this year, fair and square, so you have to believe she can beat Venus also. The problem for Patty is, I am certain Venus will not underestimate her, given the win over Serena and the Zurich title. So it will make it all the tougher for Patty. If I had to place money on this, Venus, not even a question, but Patty could win it, also. Have I waffled enough?

I read a magazine this weekend, they had that picture of Venus and Serena. The fashion lady did not like the clothes, and captioned the picture "Double Fault."

So what the hell has that statement got to do about whether VENUS can beat Schnyder?

It was the picture you posted, plus it was sort of funny "double fault." I thought you would want to know given you go for Venus (I mean behind Jenn of course).

Nov 4th, 2002, 06:59 PM
Maybe the Police Gazette can have a photo of Winona Rider and Jenn Capriati with the same caption beneath it as well. :p

Nov 4th, 2002, 07:59 PM
GO PATTY!!!!!!!!

Nov 4th, 2002, 08:03 PM
get patty!! :(

Dawn Marie
Nov 4th, 2002, 08:06 PM
So she won a match over Serena, that doesn't mean a thing playing VENUS! Alot of the players say they play differently.

Nov 4th, 2002, 08:11 PM
dawn that win was on clay and this is indoors.

Patty did take venus to 3 sets at the grand slam cup in germany in 1999(?), but i think venus will win.

Venus hit 1 serve that literatly knocked the racket out of pattys hand. they showed it on replay.

Nov 4th, 2002, 09:17 PM
Queen Lindsay
You are so predictable.
Patty beating Venus won't help Lindsay beat Monica. Or will it?

Nov 4th, 2002, 09:47 PM
Lindsay dont need help!!!!!!!
BTW what is your problem if I cheer for Patty????
Did I hit a nerve???? sorry!!!!!!

heres one more!!!!!!!
GO PATTY!!!!!!!

Hi everyone,
I think Venus will pull it off in 3 sets 4-6, 6-3, 6-2...something like that...Venus can usually win the first set, and then go off to blow them away in the 2nd and third. But I hope Patty will come off with an upset.

Goodluck to both of the players...

Nov 5th, 2002, 04:18 AM
To quote B.L.King... "It's up to Venus.. she's either going to win it or lose it"... this was said by Billie back in '99 and it still applys. ;)

Nov 5th, 2002, 05:45 AM
Venus chose to be on a losing streak right now.hehehe isn't she bored with tennis yet.:p

Nov 5th, 2002, 06:00 AM
Last year venus did not play after the USO till Gold coasr and she bagelled patty. Patty has lost the surprise element and now when she steps on court playersa are gonna be aware of her. Venus will definitely be prepared for her. Look for her to steam roll then draw. Both the sisters have proven time and again that they do not need lots of practise to be match tough. patty will only provide a much need practise session. venus has the no.1 player at her breakfast table everyday and gets all the pracrtise she needs.

Nov 5th, 2002, 06:46 AM
Weren't a lot of those losses to Venus when Patty was on her orange juice only diet?

I think Venus will win, but it may be tougher than she expects

Nov 5th, 2002, 11:18 AM

a. Patty was never on an OJ ONLY diet...

b. Luci, she may well do, but many people might be cheering for other players!

I was exaggerating. At one stage, Patty had a coach who put her on a ridiculous diet

Nov 5th, 2002, 11:35 AM
With Patty's current form, Venus must be having some sleepless nights right now and could be practicing her forehand stroke 5 hours per day.

coolconchita - i don't see how venus always performs when matches are hyped. you have to realise that the only matches which she has played that have been really hyped by anyone except the people on this board and the wta have been against serena - and this year she has played shockingly in all those matches - surely even you williams fans would admitt that the standard of those matches has been well below the level which the girls can play at.

also i think a lot of you don't consider the fact that patty has re-discovered her game this year after playing awfully for 3 years. yes venus beat patty on the gold coast, but patty was smashed by tanasugarn and seles in the next two tournaments - so what does that prove?

you can't go by past matches - patty has been an unpredictable player (even this year), and when she plays at her peak she gives every player problems. if venus loves the high bouncing balls so much why isn't her best surface clay?

Nov 5th, 2002, 01:43 PM
Venus in two ,if she is little off then maybe three .
