I have two candidates. Usually it can be obvious to point out which songs will be singles on albums. These two stand out to me.

Apparently Tom Traubert´s Blues by Tom Waits was never released as a single. Which is really strange, as it is one of the greatest songs ever written.

I thought Take A Bow was from her debut album "Spirit"? and her second album totally flopped, Outta My Head could've been the third single.:o

Just by the feedback in this thread I can tell they made a mistake! It HURTS me till this day. This could have been one of her biggest hits in my opinion.

I can't be assed trawling through my fave's albums, but I agree with ITZ. As a non-Britney fan, 'Breathe On Me' is a superb piece of pop music and one of my favourite pop songs ever. It's amazing, so atmospheric and meets its purpose perfectly. The song oozes sex. Also, Lady GaGa 'Dance In The Dark'...could have been career defining IMO. Two other songs I love and think should have been singles are Stevie Nicks' 'Wild Heart' and 'Outside The Rain'.

Never charted in the US because it didn't get a physical release and this was before digital came about.

Never charted in the US because it didn't get a physical release and this was before digital came about.

That's a bit of a technicality though. There might not have been a physical single but it was definitely treated like a single i.e. it was all over the radio and there was a video. It's not like it was a great album track that never got the exposure it deserved, which is the spirit of the thread, I think. :)

Yes, I was just answering the question directly/as a joke.

The real answer (as far as pop goes)

Many of the best metal songs aren´t released as singles, instead it´s the more "commercial" songs on the albums that gets a single release. This is my favourite song from Arch Enemy´s Rise of The Tyrant album, but it was of course not released as a single.

Whoever decided that Migrate should not be a single should be thrown in jail. Mariah's The Roof and Breakdown from the Butterfly album and If We from Glitter should have been singles, too.

I am not sure, was it realeased, but there is no video for this song. Mabe it was for some clubs.
It is one of the 1st project of Melanie Thornton(RIP), before she went into la bouche.
Nostalgic for me.
